I rode a 3 yr old stallion that is son to Homer, and he is the best racking horse I have ever rode. I've never had a smoother ride. Even though he's been bred multiple times unless I looked, I'd personally have thought him a gelding... I'm in love with this horse!
I didn't see where he was asking for any "public" advise on how to ride "his" horse no matter what the intention. Thanks for sharing a wonderful video of a remarkable horse with us. YOU RIDE JUST FINE !!!!!!!!!!!!! and the horse looks GREAT!!!
This is what happens when a public 2-3 generations removed from dealing with livestock gets to comment on how hard they think the poor horsie has to work.
Amazing natural talent! Hours of hard work and training sure did pay off for these guys! The colts out of him are almost as amazing! He sure has the heart and motor to go along with it!
Love this video! Interesting to see this horse's natural talents taken to the max. More horses should be worked like this, great exercise. Great gaits and he sure looks comfortable, no matter what speed he's going. I read a book written about 50 years ago, and it said the horse wasn't really working unless you could hear them breathing, so good job!
Actually that is the proper way to sit a horse in the rack. God what a beauty I had a horse a lot like him. Wish my current mare would rack out like that.
very nice racking horse I have never liked gaited horses I have always owned and rode thoroughbreds but after seeing this video I might try one out keep up the good work
Very nice Speed Horse, enjoyed riding with two of his off-springs last week-end, just two years old and they left the group setting, I was impressed !!! You have a very nice stallion, and I surprised to learn of his size, This video reminds me of a herd of Mustangs out West running in the wind, but in this case they are Racking in the Wind !!!!
This horse is amazing. I love watching this video. A rack is completely different from a gallop. This horse can do this for miles. The rider sits back to keep the weight off the withers. If anyone is going to criticize this horse and rider at least learn how to spell gait, not gate. lol. You do not ride a walking or racking horse the same as you would a Quarter horse, Thoroughbred etc. different breeds, different movements. Great job. Love seeing this horse posted and have a triple registered mare that I want bred to this stud.
@qjblondie. gracielou2u is right... different types of riding styles takes different types of postures in the saddle. When you're showjumping, you have short stirrups, and you're leaned forward a lot more. In dressage, you have long stirrups and have an upright position, same with western. If you're a jockey, you have minimal stirrups and stand up during the entire race. When riding multiple gaited horses, like this one, you have longer stirrups and a slightly more backwards position.
I still go back and watch the Rev. I have a 5 yr old mare out of a nice STB mare and Big Mac. Love the videos of her Grandpa Cupids Arrow. Wonder what kind of foal they would give me ?
Lucy Florey ..it so awful how they put chains around their hooves and make them go back n forth. On plywood its sad and most of the riders are overweight
I agree with Tombo! People who are "advising you" (You, who WORKS/OWNS and BREEDS these beautiful animals.. btw) on how to ride YOUR horse: Sit up straight, don't chew gum, keep your knees in... head back, elbow out! WTF???!!! These people need a good swift kick in their arse! Nice video, bro. I'm enjoying every minute! BEAUTIFUL AND UNIQUE HORSE!!
Great video! I remember the first time my mare single footed... I didnt know she would since she was Morgan with only a 1/4 standard bred... She had just turned 3 and had only been ridden a handfull of times with no real training... I was so eager to ride her I couldnt wait so I got on her and apparntly she was eagar too cuz she took off a min or so in and I had no idea what she was doing! lol It was soooo smooth but at the speed of a super fast trot! It was amazing!
the easiest way to get a horse you can pace with (racking) are standardbred pacers, i ride my mare and she races too at rideau calreton raceway. she racks no problem its really fun.
@cammarkgross most Single footing horse carry the Standardbred Trotter blood lines. Many will argue this point, but its fact. The foundation Sire, EZD Falcon Rowdy was Standarbred and Paso Fino. I can't speak for Homer, but if he carries the Rowdy bloodline, then he has Standardbred Trotter in him. You can also take any gaited horse with a Square and lateral gait and cross with a standardbred pacer and get a nice singlefooting horse but it will take a little training.
Nothing better than a fine gaited animal. Had a Morgan that could gait out with the best. Sure miss that bay Morgan with the white star. Without the horse, man’s history would be rewritten. A most noble and forgiving animal.
@SnooDog1 it's tölt. pass is, like trot, a two-beat gait, whereas tölt, like walk, is a four-beat gait with the same sequence as walk. it's very very comfortable for the rider :)
What a powerful animal--with such a sweet face! The rider can just sit back and watch the countryside go by. Amazing! What I wouldn't give to ride one of these horses...just once. *sigh*
eques101 I'm not a gaited horse expert but from what I've read they ride saddleseat which is located behind the centre of gravity to encourage the horse to stretch the front legs further in front of them or lift them higher.
SuperEriberry SOME are ridden saddle seat, we rode our Missouri Foxtrotters western as did our friends that had TWH !!! You ride what you like when not showing, which to me is a total waste of time !!!
Everything I do, from ring work to hacking about on our farm, IS schooling for showing. It’s all about prep for competition to me, without competition it WOULD be a waste of time!
The bit is probably just a long shank twisted steel meant more for contact then anything and if you sit up straight while a horse racks, especially that fast you'll throw it all off balance and make both him and you very uncomfortable. The constant pressure on the horses mouth also aids in their balance while racking because with the forward motion their center of balance also shifts forward. So leaning back and pressure on the nose keeps the hind engaged and forward motion smooth
I understand that they need the contact to keep in gate but the leaning back looked awefully weird to me...unnatural. But man that horse NEVER broke gate! AMAZING!
I grew up riding icelandic horses and they have the racing pace. How fast would you say does your stallion rack? I would love to ride a racking horse once. I've ridden icelandics, saddlebreds, Paso Peruanos, Paso Finos, TWH and Missouri Foxtrotters. To which one could I compare the racking horse the most gait wise? Thanks
Yes I have, hours and hours, yet the horses back was fine when the ride was finished. My companions, who rode like this guy, their horses were sore. You don't seem at all concerned about the horses comfort and that is what separates you from a true horseman. As for confirmation, it has everything to do with how a horse rides. I think you have much to learn, good luck with that.
Beautiful horse, awesome speed!! Never broke his gait!! But to me he is sweating a lil bit to much to keep going like that, he looks well taken care of, just may need a break for a minute!!
@alwaysmmmusic It's something called "Pass" og "Passgang" in Norwegian, pretty much only known by Icelandic horses.. But also.. Paso's.. i think. In english I think you call it "The Flying Pace" and it's pretty much a fast, lateral gait that can reach speeds up to 40 mph. Some Icelandics just have it, but not all individuals possess that fifth gait. And when they do, they often try to do THAT instead of regular trot :) Please correct me if I'm wrong, this may also be something known as tölt. d:
@whitney2011ful Its not a pace, it is a rack, also called singlefooting, where one foot is on the ground at a time, you can hear 4 beats instead of 2, and see that the rider is not moving or bouncing much like the would if he was pacing
That's some damn speed behind that horse. Just a little question - can such breed of horses also do canter/galop, or not as well as they do single footing?
Why would you want to put a horse on ther ethat is all sweaty and lathered up like that on youtube...we dont want to see horses with lather all over them and did u see how hard he was breathing???
After bathing and walking till cool and respiration returns to normal, he will be like it never happened. No work, no building of the cardiovascular and muscle systems. People today know nothing about conditioning.
@Fastgate4beat LoL....That why I stated "SOME" and not "All". I'm not taking anything away from the Single Footing Gait, I Love It (I own 3) but look at the lineage. EZD Falcon Rowdy was Standardbred and Paso Fino. Meaning that his offspring carry the Standardbred Trait.
My first riding horse was a retired pacing mare when I was seven. Sometimes she would take off in a pace because it felt good. What a ride! These horses are pushed past the point of a sustainable gait for distance riding.
I would love to own a horse like this. I live in Illinois and have not seen fast racking horses in my area. If you know of one for sale please let me know.
WoW! I have an 8 year old STB mare...Unraced pacer and she canters like a dream but does pace. Very UNcomfortable pace. What is the actual breed that you are riding and how the heck do you get them to be so smooth in their gait?!?

One of the most impressive single foot horse I have ever seen!!!
very nice racking horse I have never liked gaited horses I have always owned and rode thoroughbreds but after seeing this video I might try one out keep up the good work
i love how he "smiles" at the end of the clip, beautiful horse:)))

Beautiful horse. Love seeing the gated horses.
Would love to see a move to bitless bridles though. Maybe eventually.
That is fast and smooth....very beautiful combination. very nice
I've only watched this video a dozen times or so. I own Rolling Hill Stables and all my standardbreds go back to Homer. Love this blood,
Wow that horse has speed! Super cool looking!
I love the speed , & the condition in which the horse is being taken care of

What an Awesome Horse.
Would love to see him in person.
I'd love to see that horse run!
Awesome horse, ridiculous rider
Magnificent horse. Love the vid!
This man has a strange way of sitting a horse
We didn't learn back in the saddle. It's hard on the horse's kidneys
Lucy Florey ..it so awful how they put chains around their hooves and make them go back n forth. On plywood its sad and most of the riders are overweight
@@debbiehogg8060 You are thinking of Tennessee Walking horses. They are abused that way to get that ridiculous big lick gait.

One of the best racking horses ever! But he should try to sit in a correct way ;)
Wow i love that horse
Love the way you have him going. Keep up the good work:)
Couple of times I thought he wanted to break, but he didn't. Nice! :)
What a supreme Horse you have there. Great video through out.
Fantastic video and SUPERB stallion! *applause*
The rider seems unbalanced on the horses back? Any answers??

sit STRAIGHT on your horse, Dude! ;)
I'm from louisiana and i have plenty of horse, nothing is wrong with this video, man just has a High breed, and a work with as horse!
i like when he is in the river he looks AMAZING!!! it's a stallion moment!
Nothing better than a fine gaited animal.

it's tölt.
pass is, like trot, a two-beat gait, whereas tölt, like walk, is a four-beat gait with the same sequence as walk. it's very very comfortable for the rider :)
@DMWD15 its called single footing. I dont know about this horse but some breads can do this as well as walk, trot, canter and gallop.

Absolutely awesome, breathtaking!
is this hard on their legs?
And that bit has such a high port and this guys is all in his mouth
This is the most awesome horse on utube, Has speed smoothness and beauty...You two just go together as one. what are your stud fees?

GREAT HORSE...but why is that rider pushing him so much? :(
There are many wonderful horses out there, but to pick one from the ones i know Homer would be the one. He definitely has it ALL.
