I came to him late in life. I'm from America. This man is an absolute comic genius. Honestly. It takes a great deal of talent to be able to carry even an interview like this in the manner that he did. I just heard he passed and this is obviously a great loss to many people. I just get this feeling this man was beloved both personally, and in all his comedic incarnations. This is such a great loss. I think. To the comic world especially.
And mostly Barry does his shows without swearing. That, in itself, is comic genius, and a novelty nowadays. He picks up on an interviewer's question, and brilliantly makes a meal of it, his sharp wit was endless. That is a trait of all great comedians. I grew up with various stages of Barry's creations..Dame Edna, Sir Les Patterson, Sandy Stone, and others. If you get a chance, check out some of his old vids of the various evolutions of his characters. Sadly, Barry, and his creations are no more. He will be missed by Australians, and those who enjoyed Barry's talents, around the world. I think the state of Victoria is giving him a state funeral. And so it should. We have lost a lot of great Australian artists this last year and a bit: Judith Durham, Olivia Newton-John, and now Barry Humphries. It's all a bit too much really. Being a proud Aussie, I have to be deliberately biased in my comments...lol. I'm glad you, as an American, enjoyed him too.
Early in his career there was a severe cringe from him in Australia. His characters played on negative Australian stereotypes and we weren't ready to laugh at his reflections of us, much less enjoy others laughing. But he won us over and made us a bit more sophisticated in the process, more at ease with who we were in the world. For all his sociopolitical comic genius, I think his greatest legacy is how he changed Australian culture in its relationship to the rest of the world and thus at home. We've lost one of our great souls.
Gloriously funny, inventive, and offensive. A perfect example of take no prisoners comedy. R.I.P. Barry. It was truly a pleasure knowing Sir Les and the Dame herself.

At 5:49 even sir Les get's out of his scheme! And laughs his heart out! What a wonderful comedian! What a performer! I just love sir Les! And I'm a norwegian; just found this gorgeous man a couple of years ago! Just one word: Splendid!
Every single time, he managed to ramp up his appearances with the jokes gradually building. Yet somehow stayed on the right side of things. A true comedy great.
I was on a Swiss Air flight some twenty years ago reading Sir Les Patterson's book on global travel. I was crying with laughter at the jokes, innuendo and some good old fashioned Aussie blue slang when one of the cabin stewardesses asked me what was so funny. I explained, she borrowed the book for about ten minutes and then returned with a male colleague. They asked me amid their laughter where could they buy a copy. I told them and can only imagine WH Smith's at Heathrow had an absolute bumper sales day! Crude maybe but incredibly funny. RIP Barry.
Not really. A right-wing media initially planted this idea and now there's a general obsession with thinking that people are offended - they really aren't.
Stands paramount above the chasing pack! Always brilliant intelligent humour. Soon to be gone no doubt from youtube, facebook and others as the world thought police, the self elected neighbourhood conscience spokespeople, along with the Zuckerberg community standards brigade, and the mambie-pambies cry foul! He is so naturally funny, such a shame to lose him and with him the wonderful Dame Edna, glamour star and fashion guru.Very sad.
I think we took him for granted a bit in Australia but he will be missed

The World needs Sir Les more than ever at this difficult time. Keep up the good work and please never change. 😉
What a great talent!!! a very intelligent man, so quick witted and off 'the cuff' also very observant about 'people and life!'
He is easily the best diplomat we have ever had.
He's got CULTURE. He's got culture up to his arsehole !
He was never a diplomat. He was a cultural attache.
@@suave-rider have you watched, Sir Les Patterson saves the world?

A comic genius never again will there be one like him 😢😢
"People get the wrong idea about Australia .... " ...... Had me in stitches! .... RIP Barry Humphries. Comedy genius. Thanks for all the laughs mate!
The best Aussie Comedian of ALL Time
we need tv shows like this to be brought back and made in Australia
Brilliant, but you sense that Sir Les has toned it down a bit with Titchie. He could be gloriously outrageous with the right audience. Pure genius.

He always made my day- RIP genius!
Sir Les Patterson absolute legend
The world has ruined comics like this
It’s so sad that we will never get to laugh at brilliantly funny people like this again.
Not really. A right-wing media initially planted this idea and now there's a general obsession with thinking that people are offended - they really aren't.
I enjoyed Alan Titchmarsh's joke about not knowing a criminal record was still necessary. Les liked it too.
Best line!
Thank goodness this and other programmes are on Utube, we mustn't lose them, they are wonderful especially in these days of so little humour.
It's amazing how Barry Humphries can metamorphosise into Dame Edna.
He would have toned it all down for the Titmarsh show. Still brilliant!
RIP you are so missed.
Les Patterson RIP, My favorite Barry Humphries character
Edna and Les, ill miss you both.
R.I.P. You funny pair......
Sir Les dialed down....titchy was very twitchy 😆😆....great stuff👌....
the world is a sadder place now Barry has gone :(
I haven't heard my nickname in 55years .Titch.
Every nation needs to send out diplomats like this.
Sir Les Patterson, the best Governor General Australia never had.
The King/Queen of world comics ❤️ luv ya les……..mate
One very talented man……..and bloody Titchmarsh.
This magic 🪄 man ⭐️!
Comic genius.

He didn’t have his magnificent appendage for this day time show 😂😂
Yes he did. Look closely at his left inside thigh...
Funny thing is Australians are actually like that.
This Bloke should be Australia's next Prime Minister , !!!
This is comic you have to think 🤔 he was a man of his time good belly laughter

Did Sir Les do this entire interview sober or something? Not used to seeing him so clean and tidy looking.
Les is getting older
Barry is a comic genius 🏴👍😁
He should have been made a Lord.
Baron Patterson? Viscount Patterson?? The Marquess of Patterson??? 🤩
@@dameednaeveragetheofficial6731 The DUKE OF PORK. 😃😃👍

Dame Edna Everage: The Official Gigaverse OMG! How perfect!!!
"Gawd" he actually got his suit dry-cleaned
I think that Suit was new and Taylored by Sam in Hong Kong.
Youtude vid called " The Chinese Takeaway" shows it. 🇦🇺

Tich tried his best but he didn’t have a clue!!
It’s cobber !!!
RIP Sir Les
Good on ya Les 👍
❤❤❤❤❤❤ Barry, Edna,and Les.
It’s a strange thing that les Edna and Barry all died on the same day Someone should look into it !!
Titch, for some reason, reminds me of Wallace and Grommet.
Masterly! What a loss he is to the world of comedy, where there are very few real comedians left.
Hilarious even when muted by political correctness

perhaps a reference to the shoes?

Dear old Sir Les, what a trouper. Shame about the wobeyed git hosting. Oh well.
Toned down, but still good.
You with me?
Woke steps in
Did he mean cobber?
It’s Cobber, not Cobbler.
Wouldn't it be great ro slip this episode in prime time tv. No warning. OFCOM would melt down in about 30 sexonds!
Les must have been the easiest character to play.
He's the polar opposite of Edna
Had to tone it down for TV.......what a pity.....!!!!
Indeed, this was around 3pm as I recall so Sir Les couldn’t, literally, unleash the monster 🤣⭐️
Not many can take Sir Les at full power.

If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Before there was Trump,,there was Sir Les Patterson…But Sir Les better and not as mad as Trump..Who also copied Sir Les Patterson’s hair style..
Also copied his monogamously-challenged lifestyle.

I like Les Patterson - but that interview was truly bloody woeful by his usual standards.
Don't know why, but Sir Les reminds me of Trump! I guess difference being, Sir Les is far more talented.
I love Sir Les - and like The Don he is very very sharp. Mate have a look at Corrupt Sleepy Joe........lol
