Rest In Peace Barry Humphries, a true Australian legend! Sir Les was his finest character, despite Dame Edna taking the limelight (as good as she was!).
The characters he created were beyond brilliant, i can't think of anyone else but Barry who could dream up Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson. R.I.P.
The first time my Mum and I saw Sir Les Patterson on television, we were in shock! We didn’t realise that it was a wind-up, and thought it bizarre that this very oddly-behaved guy was a cultural attaché. I think we switched channels as the interview went on. An Australian friend later enlightened us pommy bastards that this was an alter ego of the great Barry Humphries, who we’d only ever seen as Dame Edna. Since that time, we loved watching both of these eccentric characters, and Barry Humphries as himself, of course. May the good man rest in peace, having given so many so much to laugh about.
The only man who can crack me up with just a look or facial expression , and the words, Ya know what I mean sport ".. The innuendo, unspoken words and a lift of an eyebrow or corner of his mouth .
I had to point out to an aussie lady friend of mine that sir Les was well endowed. She knows now. RIP mr Humphries. Health and wisdom to all, Erik the Netherlands
@@croonyerzoonyer Who else could go on stage solo and do four characters ranging from a yobbo, a dead man and a woman all in one show without a break? Answer...no one...
@@croonyerzoonyer Barry was a genius, no one has ever been like him as Dame Edna especially. Dame Edna could get away with anything because of that comedic genius. A true one of a kind.
I cried with laughter watching that. The presenter was trying to contain his laughter to no avail. Comedy that good goes beyond joke telling - it's like you are a part of his clique. RIP Barry Humphries.
It would have been the ultimate satire show if somehow Sir Les and Dame Edna could have been merged into a programme using all the wizardry of TV technology. Nonetheless what a brilliant comedy Barry Humphreys was in both guises. Hats off to him!

One of the greatest Australians of his time
Angus, I couldn't have said it better.
Sandy Stone was my favourite. Barry Humphries will be greatly missed.
Sir Dr Leslie Colin Patterson was my favourite as well...although Edna was great as well....😄
Sir Les was always my favourite. An absolute genius performer and writer. Australia is very poorer for his passing.
RIP Barry.
The world is a lesser place without you in it.

Great new clip. Great also to see him on Australian TV. I am more familiar with his appearances on British television so this is lovely.
Beazley - Creane dustup was about 2003 so this is 18 years ago.
Thanks for posting these!

A true one of a kind.
Gotta love Australian exceptionalism
Les Patterson live is hysterical, very naughty!
I absolutely loved him as sir Les Pattinson Barry
"There's a leader there but there's still a vacancy". He could be describing Keir Starmer.

Perhaps Les was playing Barry and Edna….
Just a thought, but maybe he should have been in Crocodile Dundee as a matey of Micks back home? My mate Les!
I reckon he's genuinely pissed here
Barry H had a serious drink problem in the late 1960s/early 70s but has been "dry" ever since. He has talked about it in a Parkinson interview.
@@salt_cotsHere in the States we had Foster Brooks, who'd speak and belch at the same time - phuggin' hilarious! He was a teetotaler too.

Genius
A comic genius and I'm a Brit.
Rip
He puts the drink down twice towards the start….
Meaning heavily edited??
I reckon it was mouthwash.
Just like the Vax to the Cene sooooo Happy Days
Pretty much sums up Australian man perfectly.... to this day.
And to think some people were offended … 😂😂 Bazza - International Treasure. I still think Bob Katter was the best character he never created.
I'm a role model to you bastards 😂😂
Loved this clip of Les, but who was that po-faced wowser interviewer..?
You recognise Richard Wilkins? You can't write sarcasm.
😂
A shoe in for president of the US!
2 Cretans, one interviewing, one being interviewed.
That's someone from Crete. Humphries was a GENIUS!

Your illiteracy is quite splendid. And most amusing, albeit unwittingly.
I think there's only one cretin here..
