Yeah everybody thinks 22re's Run Forever well if you don't do a timing chain swap is not going to run forever unless you do it 150,000 MI people think they run forever but if you don't do that they don't
22R’s have other shortcomings as well. Many have piston slap and suffer from excessive oil consumption and blowby. They can also have head gasket issues. And I have never seen a 22R that didn’t have a pitted deck surface. Oh, and let’s not forget then that top end tick that you often can’t get rid of no matter how hard you try to adjust the valves. Of course, much of the reason why people do swaps like this is that, even if your 22R does not have any of these issues, it’s just not the nicest motor to live with on a day-to-day basis. They’re slow. They guzzle gas, especially in relation to their meager power output. And they’re just generally rough and noisy. They are admittedly a product of an earlier era, and perhaps should be judged in that context. But the reality is that we can do better these days (and, indeed, since the mid 90s when these Tacoma motors debuted).

We killed 2 in a week 😂 That is why this beaut has a 3.4 now! The engine was knocking before the maple syrup, that was just for good fun.
I had a 81 toy 22re almost 500,000 miles. Driving it home at 30 mph it threw the #3 rod threw the block. Was able to drive it the rest of the way home. The piston had turned sideways and tore everything up. Yes it still ran so you are right can't kill them!!!
@@ericsweat9917 I've blown up 2 22re with #3 rod bearing going. There must be something in the oiling circuit that makes that one go first?
@ Build & Adventure WRONG! Timing chains are a 22R’s krytonite.
Estoy por iniciar conversion 22r a 5vz, alguien que me apoyara diciendome todo lo que necesito para la modificacion?
What’s a head block
I dont know?
Awesome job guys , I'm about to do this but I need to get info on that ecu .
I'm going to be doing a 3.4 swap in my 83 Toyota pickup will the 3.0 transmission work
Yes
TENGO UNA 1994 4X4 4CIL
Unico comentario en español.. yo tengo una 96' 3L diesel con turbo de 2L-T..
Que bueno ver por acá habla hispana, tengo una J90 de motor 3rz, 4 en linea 2.7L
Is this legal for California bullcrap emission laws
No
@Craig D Not true! Engine swaps are legal in California so long as the engine is newer than the vehicle you are swapping it into (true of ANY 22RE to 5VZ swap) and you use all 5VZ emissions gear. This includes all sensors, the ECU, cat, etc.
Now I know where all the T100s are going?
Where?
I still have mine never gonna sell it or anything else if the engine goes out im gonna rebuild it cuz I haven't had a truck like my t100 i love it is perfect for me
This is awesome man! New Sub right here.
Awesome, thank you!
You are great brother 💓
Gotta love the old Toyota Utes 👌👌 or pick up I should say 😂
I love this video cuz is the engine that I have in my t100 1996 sr5
3.4s are awesome!
3vz gang
Oh hell that intake cost more than the truck. Nice though 😁
China intake 😂
Why torch a 22re? Save it !
Would love to see a 1uz next lol
Me too! Would love to put one in the 4Runner build if I find one for a decent deal.
@@DirtGarage well, I'll be happy to watch it! I've got a 5.0 swapped 98 ranger 4x4
1UZ with a manual transmission.
i have some good tunes you guys can use on ur next vid
Adding one or two turbos with an intercooler is a must.
This is awesome
Thanks!

Nice
Don’t swap out a 22 re…. Swap out a 3vze.
Swap out either or. You won't convince me the 22re is any better than a 3vz 😅
@@DirtGarage are you not a fan of the 22re? I thought they were un breakable.
@@ridebc153 I've seen more dead 22REs than I ha e 3.0s. At the end of the day they are all old motors and a 3.4 is a worth while upgrade.
@@DirtGarage was it hard, want to engine swap my landcrusier?
