- My 1989 Toyota 4runner now has a 3.4L 5VZ-FE thanks to Toyonlyswaps in Creswell Oregon. They did such a good job that i drove it 850 miles back home with zero issues.

Nice swap!
I have a toyota pick up 90' here on Puerto Rico and I am planning to do a 4.0L 1gr-fe engine swap! My 22R died sadly 2 years ago
Did you have to do anything special to pass Cali smog? Also nice rig!
basically i just need the trucks emissions components to match up to another existing truck, in this case, a 1998 Toyota T100 with came with this engine and trans configuration so im using that ECU.
@Joey Rassool can you elaborate
So awesome man. Thank you for posting this. My 3.0 in my 89 pickup is toast and I have been doing research on a swap. I just reached out to them with a quote. Thanks again. Awesome 4Runner!!
Hey man. I'm thinking about doing the same thing. How much did they quote you for?
@@conradjames2745 I was quoted $9K. But I went with several upgrades including new belts, plugs, pulleys, seals radiator and a few other things. They require a 50% deposit before they set a date. I did this about 2 weeks and they said they’re booked out until September. Can’t wait to have my truck swapped though.
@@GoonDick Definitely worth it! I'll have to give them a call. Thanks man
Joey~maazing . =))
How much does it cost just for the labor on the swap?
they used to have all the prices on their site, but think with inflation they've had to take them down cus costs are changin so often. $3k ish i think when i had it done
Did u tow it back to Oregon for the swap? Im also in socal and curious about the logistics of doing something like this.
I had a towing company tow it to Oregon.
What was the final MPG? What was the best you did get? Build looks great!
still only 17mpg, i am gonna try and run with higher tire pressure and see if that bumps it up a bit
@@RassoolRacing mine hits 21-22 mpg
Good job dude, what's next for the 4runner, or are you keeping it as she is?
Mostly restoration stuff. I'm got some 80s era bumpers and it needs new suspension
Very cool
Damn, sorry to hear ya rolled it. Such a nice rig
My 1985 Toyota 4runner Sr5 5 speed has the 22re engine and has 288k miles on it and sits on 35's with 5:29 gearing and 4 in lift by TG, using only PURE gasoline, no E10 crap, and it is getting 22mpg!
yeah, 22REs dont have a lot of guts but they get great gas mileage. I do a little bit of towing with mine so the 4 banger wasnt doing to cut it for me.
@@RassoolRacing I have taken my 4runner at 100mph in 5th gear, and 4th on mountains. it is fine.
@@dundeeecroc with that diff and tire combo you should be hitting 100 pretty easily. It'd be around 4200 rpm, but pushing an 80s box through the air is tough 😂
How do the tires do on the lift. Any rubbing or cutting needed?
Did you have to contact the CA smog referee before you sent the truck to Oregon so that you knew what the CA requirements were? Is Toy Only Swaps familiar with CA emissions rules? Thx!
Toyonlyswaps does not guarantee California compliance.
Kinda shocking this has hardly views supper cool bro! Subbed!
Thanks, haha! Tell your friends :)
@@RassoolRacing tell yours about mine and I’ll do more than the same lol. Cheers with a fake beer. Sober one month one week.
You been happy with the swap? Getting very close to pulling the trigger on this swap at TOS
Love it! It's not a night and day difference from the 3.0, but it definitely helps. Reliability-wise, the swap has been great! The only issues with my truck now, are all the other things that are 30 years old 🥲
how much did it cost you?
What all did u have to do to make it fit, I heard people usually have to do a body lift or hood scoop but it doesn’t look like u have either
1 inch body lift
Man, I want to do this to my 87
How much did the swap end up costing you? Also what went wrong with the original engine?
About 9K all in. I had them do the new radiator, and a refresh on the engine and trans, so it can be done cheaper, but there prices have been going up every year or so.
I didn't get to see specifically what went wrong with the original engine, but it seized on me during a road trip. I just shipped the truck to Oregon, and they yank the engine out and got rid of it
@@RassoolRacing cool thanks! I really wanna get a 4runner and I think it's cool that if the engine does go a new one is available at the least
California smog legal?
Can be
@@RassoolRacing you use it for off road use only?
Do you use 87 octane gas ?
89
@@RassoolRacing Stay away from E10 fuels!!! I use PURE gasoline with 89 octane on my 1985 Toyota 4runner SR5 5 speed with the 22re engine and has 288k miles on it, getting 22mpg!!
How much did that swap cost you????
Toy Only Swaps has the pricing on their website
A shit load, probabably more than 9-10 k, it was in someones shop for a month easily and he had them take and engine out and put a new one in, that's 50 technician hours as is. Do it yourself so you can learn how to fix it when your actually off roading. Not just driving around califnonia trying to be a Toyota influencer.
@@mylesbeach1035 I love this truck too much to trust myself to work on it. That's what my Yaris is for.
Well it used to say on their website. I think they literally just changed it.
@@blakobconcretin hmm. Their prices have been going up each year with parts costs. I guess they got tired of updating it.
