My favorite Megadeth solo. Marty Freidman is a fricken monster.
According to a 1990 interview with Marty, he recorded the solo on the fly and had to go back and actually learn the solo for the tour.
Its my favourite solo ever. Marty is genius player. And i am saying it from Metallica fanbase.

This line-up of Megadeth (Dave Mustaine, bassist David Ellefson, guitarist Marty Friedman and late drummer Nick Menza) truly captured Lightning in a bottle ⚡ with this album in 1990 - 'Rust in Peace' 🔥🤘🤘
Megadeth continued to dominate the 90's with 3 more Mega-albums: 'Countdown to extinction' (1992)... 'Youthanasia' (1994) and 'Cryptic Writings' (1997)... which were their biggest albums to date.
It was a pity that drummer Nick Menza was fired in 1998...and passed away in 2016.
Guitarist Marty Friedman pushed Megadeth into more radio-friendly, electronic music on the album 'Risk' in 1999 before leaving the band.
Megadeth was unable to replicate that success w/ their 2001 album 'The world needs a hero'... and disbanded in 2002. Dave Mustaine formed a new Megadeth in 2004 and carried on.
Cryptic Writings was a very divisive album and sold relatively poorly compared to previous output. It even sold less than So far so good, and Peace sells. (it only achieved gold, and everything from Peace sells had achieve platinum, with Countdown reaching 2xplatinum).
according to dave, lars ulrich encouraged him to "take a risk", and that was why risk sucked. maybe dave just hates lars and thought it would be funny to blame him. also the world needs a hero is a pretty good album. it has a couple duds, but it was my favorite post countdown to extinction.
This was when they were at their best. Masterpiece of an Album.

As a bass player, you might really like Megadeth's 'My Last Words'. It's an older song from 1986 with a different sound than what you get with "Rust in Peace". 'Mega' bass on that song.

I started playing when I was 11. I’m 36 now. I used to play this (with a lot of other covers) to stay sharp. I play lead guitar and this solo is one that got me ready to the stage! Keep practicing 🤘
I got the Rust in Peace CD from my uncle when I was a kid, just being shaped by the world, learning what music was and what music was good. This is good, nay, this is great music.

A lot of people argue that Friedman's solo in this song is one of the best solo's in modern music history.
I have to say, I get a tiny bit choked up seeing someone be blown away by it, the same as I was when I 1st heard it, over 30 years ago.
Saw them play this song live on their Cryptic Writings tour. Got to hang out with Mustaine for a while before the show. He is really cool, and really funny. Amazing show. Got his and Marty's autographs on Megadeth cards and still have the ticket stub.
Cool story, I'm jealous wish I could've had that experience. I remember going to that tour. I saw them 4 times in the 90s, all with Marty. I saw one of Marty's last shows in Vegas at the joint. Didn't realize it was an era ending. I just saw them recently open for the misfits since that show 25 years ago. They were ok, but not the same without Marty.
I got a few Megadeth cards autographed from Dave and Marty. They were really cool.

He was into the Japanese stuff even before Megadeth. His solo album Dragon's Kiss before Rust on Peace is awesome.
If you liked this one, then you should probably give a shot to the whole record. Rust in Peace is the gift the music God blessed humanity's ears with.
