- 🇧🇾 I wanted to take you on a journey with me in this episode to a village in rural Belarus. So I headed to Gomel and from there took an early morning bus out into the windswept provinces to see what life is like in a Belarus village. Hope you like bleak landscapes and Ladas.
Attention! Don't forget to check out my book: The Burning Edge by Arthur Chichester ( available on all Amazon sites ). Full of crazy tales from Belarus. You'll love it!

10:19 Born in Korma, Ivan Petrovich Shamyakin served the National Belarusian literature faithfully and memorably. In his own lifetime Ivan Shamyakin was honored with the following rewards: a national writer, an academician, a Stalin Prize winner, a hero of socialist labour. There are 12 novels, 26 narratives, 10 plays, several stories in the creative heritage of the writer.

Blue is a very traditional color of the Eastern Orthodox church, most likely the reason for the widespread use there in Belarus
In earlier times, blue was a colour of nobility since it was quite rare and hard to create. The colour of kings and nobles.
Belarus, despite it being a relatively small country, is host to around 900 rivers and 11,000 lakes. We call ourselves a blue-eyed nation because of that. Not all of us are blue-eyed though
Hence the devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help as Mary is the Queen of Heaven and earth I’ve always heard it referred to as Blessed Mother Blue
Artem Kuznetsov Belarus is bigger than most European countries and not much smaller than the UK.

Once more, I'm amazed how little litter there is and how everything is so clean (even in spring). People in Belarus are not rich, but they have self-respect.
They don’t package everything in plastic or give plastic bags away in shops. People bring their own bags. In the west there’s too much litter because of too much packaging/wrap and plastic shopping bags
Robin Shaw why is there so much litter in africa? packages as well?
I remember they even cleaned after themselves on HUGE protests against Lukashenko. They deserve much more ;(

My father comes from Belarus and we used to visit our relatives there every year. Since Corona and the fact that my passport would have to be renewed if I went there again, I‘ll probably won’t go their for a long time. It‘s nice to see that someone actually is interested in this country. By my experience it is actually as grey and dilapidated as shown, which isn’t supposedly bad, just sad. My grandma is the typical Babuschka. She lives by her own in an old colourful wood house, in a small village with not even 50 residents. The living standards are very low but you can "survive" as a German, who is used to a comfortable and easy way of living. I wish this country for the future all the best and that it has the strength to escape the old system.

Blue paint is very common on older buildings in this area of Europe. That blue pigment came from a plant named woad, which apparently originated in Russia and spread all over Europe.
