she doesnt even actually ATTEND the school for him. she enrolls for him, she went to that first class for him, but after that moment where he talks down to her despite making it in to Harvard, its just a movie about a woman applying herself to FULLY PASS LAW SCHOOL to spite a man who she realized didnt respect her as a person.
i have no doubts that she fully payed that harvard tuition planning to go to One (1) class and win him back, and when that didnt happen she straight up became a lawyer.

This is not a romcom. It's a career com. Her success isn't dependent on a man. It's based on her accomplishments!!!! This was SO SO SO important! Especially in 2001!!!!
I don't think Jennifer's character is meant to be dumb. She's shy, lacks confidence and had been spoken down on by her Verbally abusive ex. She showed the typical Abuse victim Characteristics.
She’s not stupid, she’s naive. She has the equipment and needs to read the manual, to perfect her bend and snap, but she tried. That’s smart
I made my husband watch this and in the court room scene he figures out of the reveal because his mom would get perms when he was little. I was so shocked I had to pause the movie to laugh and text everyone.

She basically has an ongoing successful book-to-movie machine because she can see the books that perform the best in book club and gets first right to make it a film at her production company! Yes but this was her breakout lead role. She was usually in an ensemble like Cruel Intentions or sharing a lead role like in Election.
Cruel Intentions was not NEARLY iconic enough. Reese in Legally Blonde is still relevant to the culture over 20 years after the movies release.
@@kotaniyumiko I think we can all agree to disagree. The music from Cruel Intentions still lives on but yet I can’t say I remember a single track from Legally Blonde. Legally Blonde is a good movie for sure but it’s also another stereotype movie and there’s a lot of those so it can get lost a little bit easier

This is going to be controversial, I love a lot of the songs don't get me wrong, however, I think that the fact that Emmet is the reason she starts wanting to succeed in the musical makes the premise weaker than the original movie. In the original movie, she has help that is true, but her drive to succeed is within her and she is struggling but she is the ultimate decider of her own success, where as in the musical Emmet is the reason she starts to even really try in school. He is the reason she even begins to study in the musical. I think the movie is more inspirational for having the strength within and ownership of your own destiny. I still do think the musical has a fun spin and songs that are serious ear worms :)

I absolutely love this movie. It showed how femininity that was usually dismissed in society is valid and wonderful. I’m visually impaired and the discussion about the title took me out 😂 this podcast is so good. Zach is such a fun guest!!

i love how obsessed with the musical zach is. legally blonde was my first broadway show when i was in second grade! still know and love the entire musical and has my dad pirate the MTV recording onto a dvd so i could watch it on my portable DVD player on long roadtrips

some more fun facts about Legally Blonde! Delta Nu is based on Delta Gamma, and the scenes in the sorority house was filmed at the Delta Gamma house at UCLA. Even the Delta Nu crest is the Delta Gamma crest, but with Bruiser's head in the place of the Delta Gamma cream rose (can you tell that i rushed DG directly after Legally Blonde came out?)

My film professor repeatedly said this is the perfect film, at least in theory terms of a hollywood film. Always used it to explain fabula and syuzhet and to contrast art house film narration’s loosened cause and effect.
My all time favorite Elle Woods line is when she sees Warner for the first time in Harvard. Warner is like “You got into Harvard law?” And Elle goes “What like it’s hard?!” I get so hyped every time

FINALLY THANK YOU!!!! This is one of my favorite movies. The court room scene is my favorite part, I could watch that scene every day and never get bored of it.
Also, PLEASE watch the legally blonde musical! It’s so, so good and very easy to find on UA-cam. Like Zach said, I think it’s better than the movie. The chemistry between Laura bell Bundy and the actor who plays Emmett is INSANE

The reason they couldn't use Stanford(like in the book) is because Stanford wouldn't allow filming. Insecure is the only show that got to film on Standford's campus I believe in the last 20 years.

OMG YES ZACH!!! The Sweetest Thing is one of my favorite movies of all tiiiiiiime!! I was literally thinking they have to do that movie during this episode!
One thing I like about this movie is the scene where they argue about the sperm donor, because it shows that not only is she wasting her time trying to get back with her ex, but it subtly warns her about her teacher. Her ex makes an argument that would help a stalker get off scot-free and the teacher agreed with it.
