Penn Badgley in this movie was just so effing charming. I know everyone talks about ‘You’ but Todd had green flags…in High School. Do we realise how rare a find that is?
Zach talking about and understanding how important tucci being such an amazing father in this movie made me think he’d be a great girl dad. Especially the bit about earned trust and allowing grace to learn and grow
The way Olive’s parents trusted her and communicated with her was incredible to see when I first watched this as a high schooler. Easy A is a good and fun movie!
I really liked the relationship between Olive and Todd, especially the scene where he gives her a ride home. It’s nice to see conversations about consent being demonstrated for a high school audience.
I’ve seen Emma Stone’s audition for the movie and honestly, she could’ve done so well as a UA-camr. The movie was basically a well crafted apology video that everyone is just seemingly ok with.
The whole montage of Olive’s actual weekend with ‘I’ve Got a Pocketful of Sunshine’…(holds back tears) So powerful. Academy Award. P.S. She’s also a furry which we somehow don’t mention.
Emma Stone’s character has an older brother (who set her up with George). It comes up in the beginning of the movie. I think her mom married her dad, had her brother and her, divorced him, married Tucci, and adopted the younger brother. :)
@41:41 the Christian boy that was fucking Lisa Kudrow is also in BURLESQUE with Cher and Christina Aguilera!!! They need to do Burlesque next pleeaaasssede
I never saw Easy A as trying to be a John Hughes movie. I saw it more as paying an homage to John Hughes movies. It never read to me as them like…comparing themselves to those movies. The same way that Do Revenge was an homage to the teen movies of the 90s and 2000s.
Ditto, I thought it was kinda heavy handed in the start of almost being like a "pick me girl" but for movies 😂 it tones down later on but that's like my 1 true guilt about the movie & it does not feel like they're trying to BE a John Hughes movie
I grew up in Ojai (was like maybe in 6th grade around when the movie came out). One of the girls in my class told us that they filmed a party scene at her house and she got to keep a lamp. Once we got to highschool, friends told me that they painted these blue and yellow stripes that are seen throughout campus to make the school look a little nicer. A bunch of Ojai high schoolers got to be extras too!
The discussion at the beginning was so real because my English class did watch this movie after reading Scarlet Letter in my senior year of high school (and let's be real, it was only kinda relevant)
Clueless is based off Emma by Jane Austen (I think) and she’s the man and ten things I hate about you are both based off of Shakespeare films by the way ! So easy a being based off Scarlet letter isn’t really a brand new concept, but I do love it and think more adaptations like this would be really great. Warm bodies is also an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. If anyone knows any others I’d love to hear about them!
The Lizzie Bennet Diaries youtube series is based off of Pride and Prejudice, if you haven't seen it yet. 'O' is based off of Othello but I haven't seen that one yet. 10 Things is easily my favourite rom-com of that era.
Aly Michalka was the best friend/love interest in Phil of the Future, Keely Teslow. She's now most recently known for starring in IZombie as Peyton Charles, best friend/roommate of the main character. Also you guys should total checkout The Perk's of Being a Wallflower if you love Logan Lerman... Yes, it's a bit sad/depressing but it also makes you feel so much more. ❤
Haven't watched this episode in full yet, but Easy A is one of my favorite comfort movies, I can quote most if not all of it, and I reference it daily 😅
Agreed, there's a throw away line from some rando that's high fiving him saying like "woodCHUCK" and he just high fives them back and keeps walking. It's such a cool guy high school moment for me, will forever be in my brain
as a young woman who has seen every single Stanley Tucci movie: yes, in 2010 in the theatre I went feral. He's the hottest man to walk the earth. i love him
I honestly just love the tidbit that Olive's parents names are Dill and Rosemary. I want to know what her brother's name is. Are they all food related?
I never clicked so fast! Also has spurred me to recommend another high school comedy with Penn Badgley thats lesser known - pleaseee do John Tucker Must Die
Another reason to love Emma Stone as much as I do. Absolutely love a Hollywood actress that manages to be lovable relatable real and somehow manages to be wildly successful in the pictures without having to resort to being absolutely dragged through the tabloids. Fucking love her!!! 🧡🖤💜
I’m so glad this movie is getting love it came out my senior year of high school…I really think it was one of the last great teen movies. I watched it on a loop including the audio commentary when I had the flu and was out of school for like a week. I can quote the entire movie. I’m not exaggerating I’m pretty sure this movie formed my entire personality.
Apparently Emma and JLaw used to get called in for all the same things when they were younger but that has brought them closer and they said they see their differences now but back then it all made sense
i’m only in the first half of this episode so idk if this is mentioned eventually, but in the scarlet letter, the father of Hester’s baby is the pastor of the church that punishes her for being pregnant. so, one could say book Hester’s “adultery” is just as fake as movie Hester’s “adultery”
my school mustve been weird, i graduated in 2014 and every girl i was friends with was dealing with rumors about getting pregnant, having sex was just assumed but getting knocked up was the *real* scandal
Kelsey not knowing Logan Lerman just killed me completely like girl His five minutes and death in bullet train was the best ever, the movie NOAH!!!, perks of being a wallflower!!!!
I’m listening to the George of the Jungle podcast after a stressful night, and real quick, have y’all seen Jungle 2 Jungle yet? That would be fun. And the Branden Frasier movie Blast From the Past.
I’m really on the fence about watching Poor Things, not because I don’t love Emma or think it will be good but because I don’t wanna see Mark Ruffalo act s**ually lol. I just have such an innocent image of him in my head because of 13 going on 30 and some of his other movies. I’m glad he got to do something new and out of his norm though, I know from his interviews that he felt weird about being perceived in such a way at first so
I’m late to the party but Lisa Kudrow’s character did give chlamydia to the student. And the refused to own up to it which is why Olive told the husband
I'm on the j law hate train because of the "joke" she made about scratching her butt on a sacred rock in Hawaii and it falling down the hill which she's never properly apologized for
No, I'm from the US and definitely read that book in elementary school (either 4th or 5th grade). I'm from Massachusetts and Kelsey's from Florida though so who knows.
Wow Zach got it completely right. I remember back in the day the script for Easy A leaked before the movie came out and I read it and thought it was soooooo good and I was excited for the movie but then when it came out I felt...disappointment. But I couldn't pin point exactly why. The acting was great, the writing was great, but now I've realized it was the directing that was off and held the movie back from being considered a true classic like mean girls was.
I JUST REWATCHED THIS and the whole time i was thinking this has to be a guilty pleasures episode and then i was like wait, was there already an easy A episode for tucci month? I have never seen anyone more f*ckable than tucci in this film specifically. He's at his daddy height, and this film is also just as classic as mean girls imo
Easy A made me an Emma Stone fan for life. Also really want you guys to watch Billions. Paul Giamatti killed the role of Chuck Rhoades. If you want I'd list episodes to watch.
Im mixed about Emma Stone. I like her in Cruella and Spider Man. Idk about Aloha and La La Land. I do want to hear Guilty Pleasure to do ether of the 2.
As someone who was very much like a Penn Badgley in my school it was becuase i floated through scoial cirlces thanks to ✨undiagnosed Autism and ADHD ✨never had a solid social circle or friends, was outside of the school drama, but would be in and out of random activites like cheerleading, honor's classes, was in band for a hot minute, and just jumped from group to group never being popular or fitting in quite enough. Was I a ghost as well???? the world may never know
GUYS WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR YOUR "BAHUBALI 2 THE CONCLUSION"PODCAST. Its been 6 months since you did "BAHUBALI THE BEGINNING" podcast. You said you can't wait to see the second part and do the podcast about it. We Indians already had to wait 2 years to learn why Kattappa killed Bahubali. You guys should not take inspiration Rajamouli fir the release of your work. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
The parents are 100% a bi couple who happened to end up in a hetero relationship together. That’s why they are perfect haha
Tucci is the poster for Bi Wife Energy
Hear me out:
“stone-aissance” ❌
(Emma) Stone Age ✅
!!
hell yeah!!!!!
16:02 that’s my favorite scene of the whole movie! “But I’m adopted” Tucci *slams hand on cabinet* “who told you?!”
Yesss!!! Sooo goood!
Penn Badgley in this movie was just so effing charming. I know everyone talks about ‘You’ but Todd had green flags…in High School. Do we realise how rare a find that is?
Another fun fact I love: Olive's parents are named Rosemary and Dill, and her little brother is Chip
LOVE LOVE LOVE that you guys are doing Easy A but OMG I AM DYING over Kelsey's reaction to Garrick describing her guy type 😂😂😂😂😂 PERFECT.
Proctor is from the crucible 😂
Kelsi says stuff with so much confidence I second-guess myself lol
The whole montage of Olive’s actual weekend with ‘I’ve Got a Pocketful of Sunshine’…(holds back tears) So powerful. Academy Award.
P.S. She’s also a furry which we somehow don’t mention.
WAIT WHAT
@@aliyahk0069 She says she fantasised about Todd in the woodchuck outfit.
Emma got her 1st golden globe nomination for this movie.
“I’m drunk bitches, what’s up!” I say this even when I’m not drunk
Emma Stone’s character has an older brother (who set her up with George). It comes up in the beginning of the movie. I think her mom married her dad, had her brother and her, divorced him, married Tucci, and adopted the younger brother. :)
Emma Stone has so many movies under her roster: Superbad, easy A, La la Land, American Gangster, Spiderman, Cruella, Poor Things and so many more
I was hoping you'd cover this movie during Tucci month but I will take this now!! Thank you!
@41:41 the Christian boy that was fucking Lisa Kudrow is also in BURLESQUE with Cher and Christina Aguilera!!! They need to do Burlesque next pleeaaasssede
I immediately paused this to go watch Easy A. Iconic
I'm so happy Zach talked about "the curse". It's an amazing and weird show and Emma absolutely crushes it as Whitney.
the zoom in at 2:24 LMAOOOO
This has been in my top 5 since I first watched it, the parents are the best
Easy A is one of my comfort movies. I know it can make me happy at any time. I love it so much! I’m so glad you did this episode 💜
i had the same viceral reaction when kelsey said she didnt know who logan lerman is
50:39 PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO SUCKER PUNCH!! so many people hate it, but i love it.
I never saw Easy A as trying to be a John Hughes movie. I saw it more as paying an homage to John Hughes movies. It never read to me as them like…comparing themselves to those movies. The same way that Do Revenge was an homage to the teen movies of the 90s and 2000s.

The Half of It, Let it Shine, Sierra Burgess is a Loser all inspired by the play Cyrano
‘Any one but you’ is also based off of Shakespeare play ‘Much ado about nothing’.
When i say I clicked on this video because I knew you guys would talk about Stanley Tucci's scene where the son says he's adopted 🤣🤣
Fellow Floridian here to validate Kelsey on The Hatchet and To Kill a Mockingbird! 😂
The zoom in yall did on Kelsey truly iconic 😂
reading "The Hatchet" in school is the reason I'm delulu about surviving in the wild. Like if Brian can do it, i can do it.
Haven't watched this episode in full yet, but Easy A is one of my favorite comfort movies, I can quote most if not all of it, and I reference it daily 😅
I live for the saga of Zach's Tucci-sexual awakening.
I can't believe you didn't bring up how the script states Rhiannon is in love with Olive! Someone tell Kelsey!
Idk what Zach is talking about, Aly's character is shown on campus many times, and plenty of people are shown interacting with Todd lol
He's the hottest man to walk the earth. i love him
vampire weekend performed at my tiny, population
Please do Fired Up! Same director as Easy A and such a great GP flick
I second this!!
FU! Literally one of my fave movies 😂😂😂
!!!
13:42 being the first amanda Bynes mention is a CRIME
There actually is a 2000s adaptation of Othello set in high school called "O" with Julia Stiles its just not iconic
Apparently Emma and JLaw used to get called in for all the same things when they were younger but that has brought them closer and they said they see their differences now but back then it all made sense
Easy A made me fall in love with Emma Stone and this is why NEED you Guys to talk about poor things PLEASEEEE
This movie came out the year my 10th grade English class did the scarlet letter and we got extra credit if we brought in our ticket stubs
I didn’t know Emma Stone had a baby either! And I have to say I loved the Curse! I’d love you guys to cover that as if it were a movie or something
2:23 the zooming on Kelsey 😂
i’m only in the first half of this episode so idk if this is mentioned eventually, but in the scarlet letter, the father of Hester’s baby is the pastor of the church that punishes her for being pregnant. so, one could say book Hester’s “adultery” is just as fake as movie Hester’s “adultery”
Love Zach’s Hannah Montana shirt 10/10
my school mustve been weird, i graduated in 2014 and every girl i was friends with was dealing with rumors about getting pregnant, having sex was just assumed but getting knocked up was the *real* scandal
Yes Kelsey, I had to read Hatchet when I was in middle school! They actaully made us make hatchets as a class art project afterwards 😂
No mention of the iconic chasing waterfalls scene??? That is the best part of the film that will be forever stuck in my head 🫶
Kelsey not knowing Logan Lerman just killed me completely like girl His five minutes and death in bullet train was the best ever, the movie NOAH!!!, perks of being a wallflower!!!!
Puritan* not Mormon, Nathaniel Hawthorne is from Salem.
You didn't talk about the recurring oranges or Huckleberry Finn
I’m listening to the George of the Jungle podcast after a stressful night, and real quick, have y’all seen Jungle 2 Jungle yet? That would be fun. And the Branden Frasier movie Blast From the Past.
I watched a video essay on this movie and apparently the original script had more evidence that Rhiannon was in love with Olive
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA we’ve been confirmed wanting this since Tucci 2 Furious and finally it’s here ❤
I love this movie so much and I'm so glad y'all finally talked about it
This is the ONLY Movie I Paid Separate times during it's release to watch in the movies. (Unintentionally) worth it.
I’m really on the fence about watching Poor Things, not because I don’t love Emma or think it will be good but because I don’t wanna see Mark Ruffalo act s**ually lol. I just have such an innocent image of him in my head because of 13 going on 30 and some of his other movies. As someone who also loves Ojai, I see you Zach!
Please do Sucker Punch and I’m also still waiting for Hot Fuzz just to listen to Garrick nerd out
Excuse you, Garrick, Say Anything is not a John Hughes movie.
HOW DID YOU KNOW I REWATCHED LAST NIGHT
I just rewatched recently too! The timing on this episode was perfect
Nah fam I didn’t have my first kiss until I was what 19 or 20 and sex 27. Sex wasn’t even on my radar when I was in high school 🤣🤣🤣
I knew people in high school having sex at 14/15 lol
Different everywhere
I'm on the j law hate train because of the "joke" she made about scratching her butt on a sacred rock in Hawaii and it falling down the hill which she's never properly apologized for
This is one of my all time favorites! So excited
If you guys dont do The Perks of being a wall flower and Howl's moving castle, 0 respect kkkkk
YeSS!! I love this movie! Glad the GP crew is covering it!
easy a made me a emma stone fan
Please talk about Society of the Snow next! Such a great film on Netflix
Canadian here, we did Hatchet in elementary school (iirc grade 4). That's a high school book in the US?
No, I'm from the US and definitely read that book in elementary school (either 4th or 5th grade). I'm from Massachusetts and Kelsey's from Florida though so who knows.
Uploaded 26 secs ago?! Sheesh I got hands like Lighting McQueen lmao
Ka-Chow
No joke, The Hatchet was basically my first favorite book lol
Highlight of my Mondays
Wow Zach got it completely right.
