Man, I never would have been able to get as confident with blender as I am over the past couple of years without your videos. None of my instructors in college were this helpful
Tip if you're using an Azerty keyboard with Tilda mixed with numerical keys, which applies SubD when you call Hops Helper : I went around by pressing Ctrl+% and it called the proper Helper menu.
At 10:17, when the mesh has a bevel applied, sharped in the Q menu doesn't seem to do anything or add a modifier. Even when I manually add weighted normals in the modifiers section, adding a boolean removes the other modifiers and doesn't work. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong here or is it maybe a bug?
thank you so much, appreciate all your videos man. But what's confusing for me as a rookie. you talk about chamfers vs. Bevels. I can't find any clarification or clear explanation about the difference between chamfers and bevels. Also, practical use case. When to use a bevel, when a chamfer, and what different types? When to use it on a SubDiv, and when to use what kind on a low-poly game asset. Thank you so much man, it would be super cool to have a video like that, explaining those fundamentals. Cheers man and keep rocking! 👍
Would you recommend these for a beginner, since some describe these tools depth as "relearning blender". Or is this too complex, better to start with vanilla Blender modeling?
100%, thats ho0w i started, BUT you should still understand how the basic tools work in case you need to fall back on them. vanilla blender gives my arse a headache man. slow af
If a viewer is having trouble figuring out how to add weighted normal with ALT + LMB, you have to press it while you hover the mouse over the sharpen option in the Q menu. Took me a bit of investigation to figure that out. Hovering over Q menu brings up a mini-menu.
Hello. I don't have that info bar on my screen as yours whenever I cut something with this addon. Therefore, I'm not able to see options. How to make it pop up?
Hi, while using the box cutter tools, when I press ctrl + .(dot), I could see gizmo; I like this then, I tried to move face to one of axis, the gizmo moved, not my prop. Could you let me know how to resolve this? I'd like to modeling while active that gizmo on it.
bro how come when i use the cube from hardops menu and switch to cutter, it doesn't cut anything. But when I use cube from blender menu like you did , it cuts?
My Q menu doesn't work. It used to work, but now I haven't been able to use HOps or Boxcutter for over a year. I've updated Blender, Boxcutter & HardOps several times, and am on the latest version of all three now. I assume it's something to do with the Keymap but I can't figure out how to fix it. If anyone has a link to clear instructions on how the Keymap should be set up that would be much appreciated.
is it possible to change the keybinding of the shortcuts? Because on AZERTY keyboards, especially the Belgian ones the tilda is only reachable with "Alt Gr" + "=" on the bottom right corner of the keyboard, next to the right shift.. edit: wait, it is ctrl + ~ or CTRL + ` ? in either case the ALT GR is required to reach the character
It's possible to change the keybind as well. Go to Preferences -> Add-ons -> Hardops -> Keymap and for this particular case look into Menus & Systems -> HOps Helper.
Sorry for the stupid question, but how can a newbie enter this topic? Hardops, meshmashie, boxcatter, decalmachine - I'm just confused about what is meant for what.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something but I swapped to using Blender from Maya. I have always used the old Maya setup of holding the alt key to pan and rotate the camera in Blender. I'm not sure if that is the cause but any option in the Hardops menu that requires holding alt and clicking just doesn't work. I don't see any way of assinging the alt key to something else in hardops. I tried assigning my pan and rotate to the ctrl key instead just to see if it worked but it made no difference. I'm using the latest hardops and Blender installs. Great video btw! Edit* Ok for anyone else who has this problem I somehow just worked it out. For whatever reason the ALT key seems to work different than the other keys. So for example if I press Q and then want to add a weighted normal, I have to left click and hold on sharpen, then hold down ALT, then click off of sharpen and let go of ALT.
my advice to you is thus: do NOT make too many changes to your key bindings until you are proficient and know where stuff is located. You wont be able to follow any tuts and it will be a disaster.
@@PonteRyuurui I actually haven't made any changes for that reason. I've been using Blender for a few years now so I'm not a beginner. I basically just changed the basic viewport navigation controls because Blender's standard controls at the time were horrible coming from Maya and Max. Anyway I solved the problem and added it as an edit just in case someone else gets confused by it in the future. Thanks for the help anyway!
