    do you recommend certain brand of ham?

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  2 роки тому +1

      I don't actually - I don't think I have seen the same brand of ham twice at my stores, lol - I swear they change daily. I'd just go and see what they have and look at the ingredients. I DO have better luck with the small hams (like they're just a pound or two) that are usually near the hot dogs/cold cuts (in my stores at least) than with the big hams. Plus unless you want to be eating ham for a week they're better for this sort of recipe as well.

    Hi Michelle, thank you so much for your recipes! They look great! I have a question for you, what brand is the ham. I have had a hard time finding one that is AIP compliant.

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  2 роки тому

      Agh, sorry, I really don't know of one particular brand. As I mentioned to someone else on here, it's kind of hit or miss and I usually have better luck at the more health-minded stores like Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, or Sprouts, however my local Kroger does have them every so often. Typically though he really small ones are the good ones I find, like just 1-3 pounds that are in the section by the cold cuts and hot dogs, rather than in the fresh meats. But if I DO find a big one I'll bring it home and cut it up and freeze what I don't need.

    Hi! Thanks so much for these recipes. They all sound delicious! I am wondering, for the recipe that you use cauliflower that is not initially riced, could riced cauliflower be used as it is with the broccoli ham recipe? Thanks! Also, how do you know if a ham that you find in the store is AIP compliant?

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  2 роки тому

      I guess I'm not absolutely sure about your cauliflower question - is it for the mashed cauliflower? You could use riced cauliflower to make mashed cauliflower if you need to, but I've ever tried it. And you can definitely use pre-riced cauliflower as-is in the broccoli ham recipe. I did that in the video because i"m usually too lazy to rice my cauliflower these days, haha. And the ham just needs to not have a bunch of preservatives and other werid-sounding stuff in it. If you can find ones that have naturally occurring nitrates and nitrites those are still ok because they're naturally occurring, and things like celery powder and sugar are ok because they're used in the curing process. But if you see a long list of "high fructose corn syrup, brown sugar, sodium hydroxolized chlorium toxic stuff, blah blah blah" then it's not going to be compliant.

    How on earth do you find AIP approved ham!?

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  2 роки тому

      I actually get mine from my local Kroger (King Soopers), but they don't always have it. I also have found it at Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, and Sprouts as well - if you can't find it I'd just ask your local store if they can get it for you. Most are happy to do so (well, during usual times they are, who knows these days with supply chain issues, but hopefully they are still?). They also have it online at some places like US Wellness: grasslandbeef.com/fresh-pork-ham-steak-15-lbs

    Why coat them in "flour "?

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  2 роки тому +1

      It makes it a bit crispier and more caramelized on the outside while keeping the inside juicier. You don't HAVE to do it, but I love doing it with the poultry-based meats like chicken or turkey. I don't bother doing it with beef though...

    Isn’t meat inflammatory for autoimmune disease?

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  2 роки тому +3

      Certain kinds of meat can be - like meat from animals raised solely on grains given a lot of antibiotics and medicines and little access to fresh air. But if you get high quality pastured meats the inflammatory elements are outweighed by the benefits of nutrients that are hard to get anywhere else (and actually bioavailable to the body). Chris Kresser has a lot of great info on this: Here are two articles to that: chriskresser.com/why-eating-meat-is-good-for-you-joe-rogan-debate-summary/ and chriskresser.com/bibliography/

      Everyone is different. But from what I have experienced and learned- animal protein has healed me and my body needs it to thrive. I do my best to make sure I eat pasture raised , grass fed humanely raised, Organ meats can be very beneficial for healing and maintaining autoimmune. Support your local farmers or look online for ways to get the best options for you. I went from plant based to being a nutrivore. I was lacking many nutrients from not eating animal protein.

      @@1984FarmDreams docs can’t figure out what triggered my sudden onset of high levels of inflammation last year. just turned on one day when i got home from work. joint and muscle pains the started almost every evening around the same time lasting all night and would be gone by morning but now it lasts longer and moved throughout my body for about 3 months then after being prescribed a ten day course of steroids by a rheumatologist. A week later my weight just started dropping and lost 25-30 lbs over the next 4-5 months turning me into a shell of my former self. never had a loss of appetite, no vomiting, diarrhea or fever. I’m always hungry and a year and a half in im having pain and swelling in almost every part of my body and internally as well. feels like nails and needles are being hammered and jabbed into all my fingers and toes and organs. everything burns internally and even my bones hurt. had a colonoscopy and endoscopy which came back clean. pancreas and gallbladder scans and function /enzymes tests were normal but i have pain in the liver area. all my bloodwork came back normal except for a high RF and now ESR. im now down 38 lbs and foods i used to eat now cause severe pain stiffness and swelling. my muscles are deteriorating and getting weaker. arms and hands are getting weaker. it gets so bad sometimes i can’t even raise my arms or use them. it’s now starting to affect my walking bcuz of pain and stiffness in my knees that just started a few weeks ago. I’ve tried elimination diet since january, omad diet, keto amd low fodmap and nothing seems to work. i was already on a mostly plant based diet when this all suddenly began. I occasionally ate chicken and fish. my life was stripped from me in a matter of months from an active pretty fit former athlete 47. I was still cycling, swimming and playing basketball 3x a week and now i can barely function losing hrs and nights on of sleep bcuz of neck back amd body pain. i’m now having to resort to painkillers which i stayed away from for almost 8 years and even trying cbd which worked for a few nights but my body has seemed to adjusted to already and not as effective now. every time i think i’m making progress my body starts doing something new. even my gums started randomly bleeding from time to time. suffering malabsorption and they can’t figure out why. tested negative for celiac disease and H Pylori and IBD and IBS. this is really crazy. my body feels as if it’s going to shut down at times. I wouldn’t wish these pains on my worst enemy 😞

      @@tjgrafiks Everyone is different, so it could be an issue for you and not for me, for example. But from what you wrote below, it sounds like there is definitely something going on that causes inflammation of all sorts. I unfortunately do not know what's going on with you but have you been checked for insect bites - like Lyme or Apha-gal (the meat tick thing)? For it all to come on all of a sudden it doesn't necessarily sound autoimmune unless it had been showing signs for the months, years prior. Usually with autoimmune issues they may sometimes seem like they come out of thin air, but then when you look back and you can notice signs leading up to it. Something that is truly out of the blue sounds more acute to me. But I'm also NOT a doctor so take my thoughts with a grain of salt as well. I really hope you can find out some answers as it sounds miserable.
