I heard that either in this game or Uncharted 2, after Nolan North recorded all his scenes, they had him play through the game and recorded him ad libbing as Nathan the whole way through, which they used as flavor dialogue in the game.
About two years ago I went back and got the platinum trophy for the whole uncharted series. Probably some of the most fun games to complete if you like getting collectibles and doing little in game challenges
Uncharted's orchestral intro music got me pumped up to play it when I first heard it. I listened to the entire track until it looped again. It deserves a spot in my list of top video game themes.
"a wet suit from 1998, where do you even get one?" Have you've ever been to a surf shop or a scuba shop? Thats how they look. Were you expecting dorsal fins or a Big Daddy suit from Bioshock?
You know what I love about Naughty Dog? They always try to make their cutscenes using the gameplay graphics engine. Makes for very good cutscene to gameplay transitions.
For some reason i'm liking The Completionist without Greg. The lame attempts at humor was a HUGE turn off and drove me insane and it always led me to skip parts of the video and head right to the important parts. Now the Completionist is more focused where it needs to be and not feel like the show has bouts of ADD.
Eh, at least the style of humor worked for the format. Most of Jirard's jokes fall flat now. Hopefully he gets better, but as it is he doesn't know what he's doing when it comes to scripted humor.
Probably other than the amazing, intense adventure story and smooth gameplay along with realistic, well written characters, my personal favorite aspect of each of the Uncharted games is their stunning presentations and visuals that continue to hold up to this day, which deserves tons of credit toward Naughty Dog!
It's weird, 3 was all over the place and didn't seem to have a handle on it's themes. I won't spoil anything, but there's a particular pulled punch in the plot department that would've made everything SO MUCH BETTER if they just had the courage to let it stick. Also some (new AND old) characters felt underutilized. Chloe for instance, a pretty well realized character in 2 felt like a glorified cameo. And then poof they write her out of the story unceremoniously.
I played this series this year (2022) 15 years after the first game released. even today, the series, start to finish, is one of the best. also Victor “Goddamn” Sullivan is the best character in gaming
Jirard! Complete Rayman Legends! Every Teensie, every character, the max amount of lums, every invasion level perfected. We would all love you for doing that
Jetleo1 I miss the comedy. Sure, they weren't great and extremely well thought jokes, but it was nice having something to laugh at. I just think Jirard needs to implement more comedy back on it.
I use to be one of those people who wrote off Uncharted as another game that just wanted to be a movie but after playing through all three console games I can say it's up there with some of my favorite series like Mario, Zelda, and Xenoblade. Drake is also a prime example of a hero done right; he jokes around at times but known when to get serious and I love that about his character. Even though I do think Uncharted 3 was the weakest of the series it's still a fun game to play through but my biggest concern is with Uncharted 4. I know we don't know much about it because I have this feeling they're going to suck the fun out of Drake to make him a totally serious character. Maybe I'm wrong and I hope I am.
***** Hm...I can agree on a visual stand point but the story has pretty much the exact same layout as Uncharted 2 and the villains I found were pretty weak. An interesting idea for Talbot but there were some things that I wish they had explained about him like how he could make others do whatever he wanted just by whispering in their ear or how he could teleport all around. I'm not saying the game is bad it's still great but I found some aspects of it weaker than the previous two games.
Jirard I highly recommend you review one of the first 3 Ratchet & Clank games, those series are underrated as ----! Please, it's super fun to complete these games!
I used to request the game every week a couple years ago when I started watching the show. I finally stopped after a while because my efforts seemed fruitless, now several years later he finally is doing this game. Thank you Jirard

On a personal note, I'm glad Drake eats at Subway over other places. I live in the UK, so I don't know about you guys across the pond, but Subway is the shit!
Emperor Nero I think he means more in the way that it's possibly better maintained over here than in the U.S. For example, I know that T.G.I Friday's in America is shit and for the most part not well maintained, but over in the UK, because they aren't as major a franchise, then there is a higher quality to the place. Not too high a quality though because it's still T.G.I...
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune oh the memorys even if you were pretty back in the 2007s theres still something you will never lose with the years and thats the wonderful music
I kind of wish that Jirard would stop saying "next gen" as what generation a game comes out in doesn't affect it's quality in any way, the only differences are graphical changes (which don't really matter) and maybe some small new things that can be done with more processing power. I hate how people expect something big and new with "next gen" when honestly there aren't really that many differences, at least not anymore. The only real upgrade between last gen and this gen, for example, is that worlds can be bigger and more enemies can be put on screen. Is that really a big difference? No, as a lot of people probably won't really notice it anyway. Will it still matter for some games? Yes, but like I said it probably won't affect the overall quality of the game.
Jordan3D Indeed, I'd say over a year is more than enough for the 8th gen systems to be considered "current gen" (and I use current here _loosely,_ that shit's ancient as far as gaming hardware goes). I blame Microsoft and Sony for trumping it up due to having nothing good to actually say about the systems. It's this decade's "blast processing."
ToastyMozart Ya, but at least blast processing was an actual quality that the Genesis have, "next gen" is more of an empty promise than anything substantial.
Jordan3D Blast processing was literally meaningless. But yeah, empty promise, and general smokescreen for "We stuck a pair of slow A6's in a box. Hope you don't want decent framerates or resolutions."
ToastyMozart Well blast processing was just referring to the 7.67 MHz processor that the Genesis had compared to the SNES, which only had a 3.6 MHz processor, and Sega had to play that up since the SNES was technically superior in every other sense. But ya, after a year and a half of system life the PS4 and the Xbox One don't really have any games, only promises for games and fanboys saying "you can't expect any good games in the first two years". I'm actually excited for a lot of the games on the PS4, but most if not all of them don't even have release dates yet, making me want to keep waiting until they start releasing before I buy one for $400, then find out that Christmas 2017 there's a bundle with Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV for $350. What a lot of gamers really don't understand is that it doesn't matter how technologically amazing a console is if the developers don't try to make games to the console's full extent. That's why we're seeing games on Wii U that run and look better than games currently on Xbone and PS4, because Nintendo actively trys to make the best looking and running experience that they can with what they have, and that's why they've always prospered. On the other end there are games like Unity, a "next gen" game that looks and runs poorly because Ubisoft didn't care enough to put the effort into the game to make it what it could have been.
I think you're a really cool guy and committed content creator but I feel the pacing and linear nature of the reviews since the format change, has really reduced the unique quality of the content. Granted, the niche was always the 'completion' aspect. However, even someone like myself who wasn't a huge fun of gregs goofy interjections can see that without the dual-role the show feels very generic and bland. Only my opinion, but of the 20min video 13 mins was basically a brief, not particularly personal overview of the synopsis/plot. Feel like you need to find the selling point again... Keep at at nonetheless!
Yeah it's strange as I was never a 'fan' either however I feel in retrospective looking back it was that dichotomy that made this show different. As I've mentioned formerly, it now feels very linear in its presentation and most of the video is merely a synopsis - simply another review show...
Jirard, you're not alone. I too have a man crush on Nolan North. I mean he's Deadpool, Nathan Drake, Desmond from AC, and a few others that aren't off the top of my head. The guy is amazing at voice acting.
How did you go the entire video without once mentioning Tomb Raider? Especially when you talked about what it reminded you of? This series is literally Tomb Raider with testicles.
Can't say I agree, as a big fan of the Tomb Raider games AND the Uncharted games, they come off as very different animals. The Indiana Jones aesthetic is the same sure, but Uncharted is WAY more forgiving and far less platform intensive. You could take combat out of any of the Core TR games and still have the important parts of the game, cuz it's OG Prince of Persia in 3d. You take combat out of Uncharted and there goes most of your gameplay, as the platformjng is fun but not at all challenging.
AgentNein I was speaking thematically, not gameplay wise, TR is the grandmother of adventuring archeologist/scientist games, while Indiana Jones is the grandfather of the genre (or at least the one that made it famous)
I see what you're saying, I don't think Tomb Raider needed to happen for us to get the Uncharted games though. They're thematically evolutionarily cousins (or siblings if you will), both owing a lot to Indie, but I don't think Uncharted owed anything to Tomb Raider.
AgentNein It's funny though cause Tomb Raider then ended up taking elements from the UC games when they rebooted the franchise. Cover based shooting, blind fire, climbing mechanics etc. May not be exclusive to UC but you have to admit that playing through the reboot had some UC feel in it.
Altoryu: ya know, I haven't had the heart to play the new TR. It's weird, I love Uncharted for what it is, but even if the new Tomb Raider is a fantastic iteration on that same formula (and from what I hear it is) I can't get past what Tomb Raider WAS, which I really miss, and no dev seems to want to scratch that itch. In some ways the first (and to a lesser extent second) TR games were sort of the Dark Souls of 3d platformers? If that makes any sense? Super brutal and punishing at times, but ultimately fair and kinda methodical. I know it's silly to judge a game on what it's not as opposed to what it is, but I can't help it with the TR franchise. Go figure.
In my personal opinion, the best way to platinum any and all of the Uncharted games is to playthrough the game on normal difficulty on you first playthrough to enjoy the story and gameplay, discover every single collectable, and accomplish the majority of medals/challenges, after that first playthrough play the games on the hardest difficulty (brutal) and finish gathering any collectable/medal you didn't get during your first playthrough, also do any of the speed runs that are needed to platinum the game, then wallah, you platinumed the title, not too difficult if you ask me!
This game is a sort of guilty pleasure of mine. While it’s not the most polished, action packed, or story heavy game in the series. For me it’s still incredibly fun to play through. It’s probably the uncharted game that I have played the most.
Jirard is awesome and I love these completionist videos. However I agree with Daisysaur because the last thing I would want to see is Aurora with a beard. The nightmares and sleepless nights would be too much for me to handle.
I didn't play any Uncharted games until very recently. My brother has played all of the games in the series. I just didn't get a PS3 until last year, so I am still playing catch-up on some of the exclusive games for it. ;) Great review!
Jirard the reason you'd keep playing with bounses is to see how fast you can get through it adding a speed run element for players who love it. I've never played uncharted but looking back at the speed run challenges on crash 3 and how you get upgrades after completing them for the gold time run. although from what i hear it the games speed is pretty linier
When I saw that brief little clip of Spelunky's title screen I thought "Hey it sure would be cool to hear Jirard's thoughts on that game." But then I realized he would have to complete it too. Thinking about the suffering Jirard experience from completing Hyrule Warriors, completing Spelunky might literally make him go insane. And I'd like it if The Completionist could keep going.
the Nathan Drake Collection on PS4 just looks epic, they fixed some issues the first game had, by adding combat functions from the 2nd and 3rd game to it.
Not sure if you said this earlier, but PLEASE do the second installment of this franchise. I heard it is was the best, AND I don't have a PS3 to play it...I understand if you feel burnt out of Uncharted, but after playing the version on the Vita, I'd say it deserves the spotlight a little more :)
Nice to see a video about this game. I agree with all of your comments. I didn't fall in love with the first game quite like I did its sequel, Uncharted 2, but I was certainly glad that I went through and beat this. The relationships that start in this game are more fully fleshed out in 2, but it's essential that it builds on the solid foundation of Drake's Fortune. That being said, I still need to play Uncharted 3 and 4, which I plan to at some point in the future (although I lack a PS4 or 5 to play the fourth one on, although hopefully that changes at some point). I actually haven't seen Firefly, so I do need to check out that show. I did adore the music in these Uncharted games.
While I bought the PS3 initially for Metal Gear Solid 4, this is the game that cemented that console as a great purchase. Sony really stepped up their first party last generation.
I heard that either in this game or Uncharted 2, after Nolan North recorded all his scenes, they had him play through the game and recorded him ad libbing as Nathan the whole way through, which they used as flavor dialogue in the game.

I would love to hear Jirards thoughts on Child of Light, but I'm terrified of seeing artwork of Aurora with a beard.
You do know that the fanfictions and fan art will be made right. I mean this is the internet we're talking about that made things like rule 34.
Before that he should play Grandia. Why play Child of Grandia before you've played the much more complex and deeper original?
Could not stand that game
Daisysaur rather have him play one of grandia games
***** look up rule 34
Victor "GODDAMN" Sullivan lol my favorite character.
Awesome. Uncharted is one of my favorite series and it's nice to see Jirard's opinion on it. Looking forward for the next two reviews!

paul duncan Subway is kind of an American thing so yeah we know about Subway very well.
**Obligatory comment over your pony avatar**
I never get to eat at Subway, because where I live, it's in the bad side of town.
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune oh the memorys
even if you were pretty back in the 2007s theres still something you will never lose with the years and thats the wonderful music
play the third one before the forth one comes up

Did Jarod just integrate M.U.G.E.N. into his video? I've got a newfound respect for you, guy!
* stop
I see what you did there, slipping in the astral observatory theme. You sir have my respect.
I for one wasn't - I'm glad those terrible sketch comedy interjections are gone.
Yeah it's strange as I was never a 'fan' either however I feel in retrospective looking back it was that dichotomy that made this show different. As I've mentioned formerly, it now feels very linear in its presentation and most of the video is merely a synopsis - simply another review show...
Dude, your channel is AWESOME. I loved your review, you've achieved a new fan among your subscribers!
Game came out in 2007, that was 8 years ago 8 minus 5 is 3

Illuminati confirmed
i hate that your six year old comment reminded me of this meme 😂
I completed this one too. Longest LP I've ever done... over a year in fact. I WAS SO SICK OF THIS GAME AT THE END! But I am still quite proud of it!
that F%CK&NG JUMPSCARE was not nice Jirard >_>
Jirard, you're not alone. I too have a man crush on Nolan North. I mean he's Deadpool, Nathan Drake, Desmond from AC, and a few others that aren't off the top of my head. The guy is amazing at voice acting.
I DARE YOU TO BEAT UNCHARTED 3 ON ULTRA HARD MODE.
I DID IT AND I HAVE THE TROPHY AND MENTAL TRAMA TO PROVE IT
"Be prepared to be double teamed before you get a chance to pull out"...I'm sure I've heard this line of dialogue somewhere else before!
Go figure.
Whoa Congratulations on 400,000 subscribers!
I didn't think I could like you anymore, then you talked about Firefly. You're awesome Jirard
Still one of my favourite IP's EVER!
This game is a sort of guilty pleasure of mine. While it’s not the most polished, action packed, or story heavy game in the series. For me it’s still incredibly fun to play through. It’s probably the uncharted game that I have played the most.
The uncharted trilogy is one of my most favorite franchises ever!!!! Next to bioshock and infamous
Jirard is awesome and I love these completionist videos. However I agree with Daisysaur because the last thing I would want to see is Aurora with a beard. The nightmares and sleepless nights would be too much for me to handle.
Jirard, this was the first time I laughed to the show since Greg left. You used great humour, keep it up :)
Now you HAVE to do Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception! That is an AMAZING game! But, I may have my nostalgia shades on, though.
The Completionist: "Crushing is - well - crushing".
Me: Laughs in Brutal mode.
I love this series so much. The first is great and the third is amazing, but Among Thieves is an absolute masterpiece.
I still got nightmares about that jetski section of the game... I am so glad they never repeated that mistake again.
I didn't play any Uncharted games until very recently. My brother has played all of the games in the series. I just didn't get a PS3 until last year, so I am still playing catch-up on some of the exclusive games for it. ;) Great review!
That start menu is pure nostalgia!
Geez crushing had this big scary reputation and then brutal came to curb stomp it...
AMazing Video Jirard. Always look forward to your uploads.
They really need to port the Uncharted games on the Switch
When I saw that brief little clip of Spelunky's title screen I thought "Hey it sure would be cool to hear Jirard's thoughts on that game."
But then I realized he would have to complete it too. Thinking about the suffering Jirard experience from completing Hyrule Warriors, completing Spelunky might literally make him go insane.
And I'd like it if The Completionist could keep going.
This'll be interesting. Thanks for keeping up the quality!
the Nathan Drake Collection on PS4 just looks epic, they fixed some issues the first game had, by adding combat functions from the 2nd and 3rd game to it.
HECK YEAH!!! I was hoping you'd do this one!
Enjoy the new space you guys really deserve it
Not sure if you said this earlier, but PLEASE do the second installment of this franchise. I heard it is was the best, AND I don't have a PS3 to play it...I understand if you feel burnt out of Uncharted, but after playing the version on the Vita, I'd say it deserves the spotlight a little more :)
I never could finish this one, I feel the balance in the other two, was built better, between platforming and action.
Three minutes in I heard about Iwata...
There goes the mood...
Not to mention that my aunt is here and I'm just hiding in my room.
Jirard has Beard Mode, Nathan has Donut Mode. Nice...
