I enjoyed the bosses and interesting power ups, but the limited combos were kind of annoying. In the end, such serves to make it an unique entry, as some of the level 3 blades' moves have always been overpowered.
15:31 i think it might be because: 1) kratos is hellbent on revenge at this point, 2) i doubt gaia would let him and/or would prevent him from doing so, considering she says in the third game kratos was simply a pawn to her, 3) if he did decide to do this, ares would be alive and probably do something about this since he wanted kratos to be the perfect warrior
As a Fan of The God of war Series for year's Why not just put Both @TCCarson 👈 and @iamchrisjudge as kratos in the NEXT Game so we the Fan's can pick in the Game which voice we want to play as kratos this way Old and New Fan's can play as there favourite kratos @corybarlog 👈this is there Twitter name's 👍
Old comment but yeah I think both points are a good summary but I'll expand. Kratos in classical greek mythology (obviously the games bend a lot of things) is quite simply the God of Strength, I would argue that he still represents his god associated archetype in the games and as a result of Ares' meddling realizes his strength and how to best utilize it allowing him the ability to kill the Olympians. As soon as Ares tricked him into killing his family he vowed his revenge, I personally believe that this vow was not necessarily directed at just Ares but also the rest of the Olympians. As far as Kratos is concerned, he has lost everything and blames everyone around him, the non Spartan greek civilizations generally believed The God of War to be an antagonistic force that razes everything he interacts with with no regard for honor, preservation, or mercy and Kratos godlike strength and revenge driven motives turned him into the God of War directly after murdering the previous God of War Ares. He reaches ever further with his revenge with no regard for breaking the cycle or seeking reparations against those that wronged him (not that the olympians would listen). An ouroboros of hatred, shame, guilt, and regret. This is why he decides to strike at the source at the Olympians inception as the deities in charge rather than trying to fix the past by intervening with his original damning act of familicide.
I remember jumping into God of War II after finishing the first game and yeah I was hyped, my blood was pumping and after the final fight against Zeus (Badass fight BTW) teasing that Kratos is going to kill Zeus and all of Olympus my hype levels were sent into Overdrive.
I wrote this on an older video of yours thinking it was a the newest one because I haven't completed the series yet but you are one of the greatest you tubers I have ever watched the passion and love for your channel and gaming shines in your videos. My challenge to you is can the completionist complete the game of which cannot be completed..... Minecraft. I'm sure you have gotten this one a lot but would love to see what you come up with. Thanks for everything you have gained a lifetime fan
Huge God of War fan here and God of War 2 is still my favourite in the franchise, Kratos may not have got proper character development in this game (Chains,Ghost and the 1st did that really well imo) but it greatly expands on the world and lore getting both perspectives of the Gods and Titans not to mention feels like an epic adventure with a very satisfying ending not to mention its a joy to replay
Hey Jirard, I just wanted to say that you really have done a great job over the last few months (I mean you've always been great). Your humor definitely shows through the videos. Although things got tough a few months back, I'm glad that you are still entertaining myself and many others. P.S: I'm sure your list is huge, but I suggest you play a game called "Nier". It is a hidden gem of last console generation. Also, the game is getting a sequel on the ps4.
I was on a God of War kick last winter/spring. I played through God of War II on Titan Mode WITHOUT Bonus Play for the first time in years. And it took me TWO months to beat it. Parts of it were a bit tedious and difficult, but the first time I got "stuck" was the Theseus Boss fight; which I was on for about two weeks. After him, I was able to keep going onto the Barbarian King; was on him for about twelve hours. Initially each boss was difficult, but I remember being able to get past most of them with ease. The part I remember feeling helplessly trapped on for the majority of the playthrough was the "Crossing of the Lowlands" portion, right before you meet Icarus. You have to pass through some caves, fighting Sirens, Hades Minotaurs, and Satyrs...and I HATE Satyrs. I remember being stuck at the first Translator portion for a few hours; which in hindsight wasn't as bad as it could've been. And then of course, the absolute worst part of any game in the history of gaming...Before the Loom. A sinister downward spiral with wave after wave of enemies; I was there for so long, that I began to precisely calculate how much magic was used per spell, and how much each chest would give me. And then I resorted to using something that I NEVER used in any playthrough before... Eurayle's Head...(Seriously, I previously viewed turning my opponents to stone as a waste of time; but in THIS section of the game, it was quite useful.) And then, after getting through all of that...I finally got to Zeus. And I have no words...
I hope you mention the extra developer videos on the GoW3 review because it has to be some of the best extras in all of gaming. I spent hours watching them and were very interesting looks into the games more than I think any developer has shown. They go through each phase of the process with concept, testing, sound and even showing the process of making a demo for gaming events like E3.
At 15:00, you know, that idea probably never would have occurred to him. One of Kratos' biggest traits is his focus. He has very, very specific goals. Which typically involve him wanting something from someone, or wanting to kill somebody, or wanting to kill someone because they wouldn't give him something.
God of War 2. Great. Now I would love to see another sequel. How about Spyro 2? I'm waiting for that one since I've seen your video on the original game. Show some love for dragons!
Any time someone tries to tell you the PS2 was the weakest of its generation- this game. My friend who's honestly a Nintendo fanboy, tried to tell me the PS2 had terrible lighting. I suppose he never saw the lighting effects on the Steeds of Time's armor.
cam fuller or how about "The Mighty Twerkules: The Lord of Jiggly Butts" Or how about "The God of that thing were you're about to sneeze and your friend is like hey whats up and you suddenly freeze, but you still have that nose tingle and it's a horrible tease, and you're like FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!"
My brother has both God of War I and II for PS2. I told him one day, "I want to play God of War." He looked at me and said, "Well, first beat Tom Clancey's Ghost Recon for the Gamecube. Have fun!" I stopped trying after the training missions.
Here are my five personal reasons: Incredibly short Very limited combat Weak story even by God of War standards Glitches aplenty Emphasis on the multiplayer To its credit though, the game isn't nearly as bad as the worst of some other series and it's fun for the first playthrough. Though sadly the only redeeming quality of it for me is the multiplayer which I found to be excellent.
Bart Komedy Length wise I found it OK, could've been longer but it's allright. Not every game needs to be long, I mean, just look at Portal. I liked the 4 powers thing, that added some good stuff. Can't argue with that. Really? I haven't found any. That's okay, like you said, the MP is excellent. Chains of Olympus sucked more.
Darker xz I thought Chains was good for what it was, especially on the PSP. Though Ghost of Sparta was better. Oddly enough apart from this game, two is my least favorite. I didn't think it was that fun. With length, it was way too short just by God of War standards. I don't mind short games, some of them being my favorites. But compared to the other games (aside from blazing through it like you do other playthroughs) it was incredibly short. I agree that the four powers was a very neat gimmick, it was certainly unique. But each power up felt the same, with only the ending of combos being different. If the main movesets changed a bit more it would have felt better. And the rage meter having to be full before doing a full combo was completely bs. A lot of the glitches were smaller, but I had many where button inputs on QTEs wouldn't go through, the grapple not working right, enemies not always registering damage (sometimes not even dying). They weren't too frequent, but they were certainly noticeable when they happened. The others were just graphical. And with the multiplayer emphasis, I have two issues. The subweapons. They suck in singleplayer. In multiplayer they are fine to accommodate the fewer enemies, but they aren't well optimized in singleplayer. I would ave preferred a larger moveset to some throwaway weapons. My second issue is the parry, they remapped it to L1+X which is both a cumbersome thing to do on a whim (again, due to the amount of enemies) and isn't nearly as fluid as just pressing the L1 button. It was done for multiplayer, and there is works just fine. But I found myself not parrying in Ascension because of this, while in the other games it was a lot of fun to do. Like I said, it's not as bad as the worst games in other series. However, the little issues do accumulate a lot, especially in the big console release as a sendoff for the series on the PS3. Is it horrible, by no means no. It was more... disappointing than anything.
Darker xz Hey, to each their own my friend. I think that if they were to pursue the mechanics of this game on God of War 4, they could have an amazing game if they expand the new mechanics more and iron out the kinks. The multiplayer is awesome though, I will sing the praise for it all day long. I have high hopes for it in the future iterations.
As a kid I wondered the very same thing about Kratos going back in time to prevent his family from dying But as an adult who's temper has been drastically shortened thanks to working retail. I get it now, the logical answer is blinded by his rage, and revenge seems like the only answer. This is why at home when I get pissed off I just stop myself from doing anything except binging UA-cam until I calm down enough to not do anything that would make the situation worse. Who'd have thought a violent hack n' slash game would have so much philosophical pondering of actions and consequences?

Does Anyone Else here love when you hear people in the background of the Microphone Feedback, I just love it, it's like someone just came into the recording room and just went. TACO BELL???????????????
You have bested the wilds of Skyrim. Why not head into the wastelands? It would be perfect with Fallout 4 coming up, that you play all the older ones. From Fallout 1 all the way to New Vegas
You know, the gods never promised to remove Kratos' nightmares. They said he would be forgiven his sins and they did forgive him. Just sucks because they did mislead him into believing they would take them away. I would be mad if I was him too.
TheULTIMATE450 Kratos is essentially a 1 dimensional character in the main titles. All he talks about is revenge, revenge, and revenge. In chains of Olympus, he desperately fights for redemption of his past sins. In Ghost of Sparta, he actually shows him CARING for someone other then himself (his brother Deimos). he tries to save his brother while understandly piss at the gods.
Kevin Tyson ummm? Have you ever even played the first one!? And how about the end of the 3rd one? He clearly cares about Pandora. But seriously, most of the first game showed many of his very human emotions.
Personally, I'm pretty hard on the game I'll admit, but the game just isn't... it's hard to describe, it's not to the same quality standards as the other games. From a story standpoint, it's probably the best, but the gameplay is just lacking. That's not to say I hate the game, but as far as the God of War games go, it's just disappointing. Every series has one of those games. The multi-player was a lot of fun though
in regard to why kratos (spellling) does not go back in time to when he was tricked into murduring his family, it's a reflection of the character. He has become so consumed with vengence that he has fallen to depravity and lost sight of the ones he loves. This is a tragic tale of ones fall rather than a story of redemption.
I would like to say thank you that one video gamer/ the completionist you got me back into video games like when i watched your final fantasy month series it got me back into final fantasy and also for some reason kingdom hearts as well. So you keep completing games I will keep on watching and stuff.
Tanner Hankins I've read all of the Kane Chronicles, I've almost read all of the Heroes of Olympus' books, but I have not finished reading The Blood of Olympus, read a little bit, but I didn't like the P.O.V for the book and the ending from what I've heard is pretty weak, but I'll get to someday.
To me, the God of War games may draw a lot from Greek mythology, but they show very little respect for it. People actually believed in the gods of Mount Olympus, so I think Sony's Santa Monica studio should have shown at least a little more respect for the source material for this franchise.
Those people have been dead for 3000 years and have murdered and killed just as much as the games show. In more ways than not the game shows the truth of what the Olympian pantheon seemed like to the Greeks.
I think the better question is... how in the hell did kratos return to the loom chamber? After he travels back in time the portal dissapears???? Also i think there might be a couple of reasons. If kratos went back to save his family, it might mean having to fight and kill is younger crazy self. Another possibility is that by this point all he cares about is revenge. Or probably even that if he did save his family it would change everything. Ares and the sisters of fate would probably be alive and he wouldn't be in a position to stop ares from taking his family from him again.

So what IS up with gow3 remastered on ps4? It is one of the few 60fps PS3 games and is hd anyway, so will there be introductions to new things or will it be the same but with better graphics?
I would love to see you complete FFix! Getting Excalibur II and defeating Ozma is considered one of the most challenging feats to complete in any Final Fantasy game.
The God of War HD collection is sitting on my shelf. I really should get around to pulling it out and actually playing it, since I've had it for like a year.
Good job with this vid. And also good idea to have a break between the GoW 1&2. I chaingunned through 1-3 and was quite burnt out afterwards. Because of that, I never touched (giggity) the PSP games even though they have been on my system since I got the GoW collecters pack and I lost hype for Ascension. Now that some time has passed (and because its free on PSN + this month) I'm gonna give Ascension a try. Enjoying it so far. Keep doing your thing, Beardman and I shall keep watching.
I LOVE THIS GAME, Titan mode made me rage so hard, but I never gave up, I died like 20 times on each boss, and like 50 on zeus, but I made it, and my body loved it.

Not complaining just passing on information. Zeus was not the one who began the whole killing his father thing. It began when Cronus killed HIS father Uranus. Though to be accurate neither of them actually killed their fathers because in Greek myth both gods and titans are immortal Cronus chopped up Uranus with his scythe and then Zeus one upped him be chopping Cronus up and casting him into the pit of tarturus. Sorry if I misspelled anything.
I think Kratos not saving his family with time travel can be argued two ways. One, he feels he will never have that chance after what Hades did to him at the end of GOW 1, where even after saving his family, Hades up and kills them anyway. Two, he is so focused on revenge that his mind is clouded with hatred and doesn't consider it. Plus, Kratos is kind of a meathead, not realizing the eagle, the symbolic animal of Zeus, was the one that took his power, not Athena.
the reason kratos doesnt go back is explained at the very beginning of the game. Gaia says, By defeating ares, kartos the once mortal warrior became the new god of war. He has found a new family with the warriors of sparta, bringing solice for his past. literally the first thing gaia says
The ending of God Of War 2 is awesome

Ascension isn't bad. Sure, it's arguably the weakest entry but even the worst GOW game is pretty fun.
I agree, the multiplayer helped redeem it in my opinion.

I dont get it. Why is Ascension bad? I played them all, ahd honestly I thought the worst one was Chains Of Olympus.
Here are my five personal reasons:
Incredibly short
Very limited combat
Weak story even by God of War standards
Glitches aplenty
Emphasis on the multiplayer
To its credit though, the game isn't nearly as bad as the worst of some other series and it's fun for the first playthrough. Though sadly the only redeeming quality of it for me is the multiplayer which I found to be excellent.

As a kid I wondered the very same thing about Kratos going back in time to prevent his family from dying
But as an adult who's temper has been drastically shortened thanks to working retail.
As a Fan of The God of war Series for year's Why not just put Both @TCCarson 👈 and @iamchrisjudge as kratos in the NEXT Game so we the Fan's can pick in the Game which voice we want to play as kratos this way Old and New
Fan's can play as there favourite kratos @corybarlog 👈this is there Twitter name's
Miss me some glitches with old man snitches ... :'(
Yes! :D I just hope he has it great where ever he is
He will rember Nanki
1:20
Helps to have a map.
Within 21 seconds of the Completionist commenting.
I am honored.
Why don't you complete GTA V now that it's out on the PC and all?
2:12 that...thing on the middle right has to be one of the most cursed things I’ve ever seen...
i really hope the next gow game he does is ghost of sparda before 3 because ghost of sparda is amazing.
agreed! thats the only god of war game where kratos actually have some character development
Kevin Tyson false.
TheULTIMATE450 not entirely. it gives the most development out of every other game.
"I KNOW I LOOK STUPID, BUT GO WITH IT"... you got me there XD damn that t-shirt D:
Orbgasm!
Another great Completionist episode. Now, how bout that Mischief Makers?
People don't like Ascension? I've played Ascension (at least the single player campaign) and I thought it was pretty good. Not great, but still good.
agreed
Gah, I was screaming about Jack In The Box 📦 hhhhhh
I would like to say thank you that one video gamer/ the completionist you got me back into video games like when i watched your final fantasy month series it got me back into final fantasy and also for some reason kingdom hearts as well. So you keep completing games I will keep on watching and stuff.
I personally find it ironic that this was put up the same day that I bought Percy Jackson Greek Gods.
Any Percy Jackson fans out there?
That's a coincidence, not irony.
Majin Boo
Oh well, don't really care.
Regular Random Person I love Percy Jackson! I also read all of the Heroes of Olympus books and the Kane Chronicles.
My brother is a fan of Percy Jackson and GOW, best of both worlds! :D
i loved the video, can't wait for your GoW3 video.
Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories??
I just found your channel awhile back and I'm really enjoying your work.

"Ascension is bad?"
No.
No it isn't.
Neither is Resident Evil 6 for that matter.
Never believe the bandwagon.
July Jaziel four years late, but hey. you speak the fucking truth.
Love your videos. I would like you to take a look at star ocean the second story for the ps1
Noobminer god of war is probably the most acurate representation of the greek gods.
***** The Greek gods would both literaly and metaphorically fuck people over on a regular basis. God of War captures that part of them perfectly.
lol

5:48 I wouldn't say he was betrayed , more like he was causing complete chaos and the gods wanted to step in. It's not like Athena didn't warn him.
Another fantastic review!
YES! I have been wanting this for a while!
Wait acension was bad?
CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE!
Is great to see a video about my favorite game. Thanks jirard!
Also, i think ascension is good.
Good work shirako, always fun watching your videos
"Look, we need to eat..." hahah I lost it.
I LOVE THIS GAME, Titan mode made me rage so hard, but I never gave up, I died like 20 times on each boss, and like 50 on zeus, but I made it, and my body loved it.
GOW2 is the best in the series..PERIOD!
thank you, i have always wanted you to play this, maybe you can finish the third and the prequel but not the extra games
He wouldn’t go back because he’s still tormented by the memory and memory can never be lost on Olympus
I HAVE ALSO BEEN WAITING FOR THIS (i commented the same thing for bioshock, you r doing all my fav games)
quinnfun also at around 12:20 i feel like i can hear gregs voice in the background but maybe it is just alex and i am hearing wierd stuff
Any plans to review God of War: Chains of Olypmus or God of War: Betrayal anytime soon?

Have you done Tales of Symphonia? If not will you guys do it in the future?
That image of Zeus at 13:36 made me super happy since it's from Smite.
Seeing Jackie Chan's smiling face as censorship was hilarious to me.
Is Lunar or Lunar 2: Eternal Blue games that you would consider reviewing?

I've played every GOW and II is my favorite by far. The set pieces are awesome in that game.
Now that Kirby music has been played over God of War, I'm waiting on the sound of bones cracking and screaming played over a Kirby game xD
One game I would love to see you complete is Asura's Wrath. That game is epic.
2:12 What um what DLC is the swimsuit one?
Hey Jirard. Where is the first game?? Can you re-upload it?
actually he made him delete up to 120

Thanks for the link!
Sorry if I misspelled anything.
anyone know what the name of the song in 5.26 is? i know its a song from gta v but i dont know the name :(
Are you ever going to attempt to complete Goemon great adventure for the N64?
I think Kratos not saving his family with time travel can be argued two ways. One, he feels he will never have that chance after what Hades did to him at the end of GOW 1, where even after saving his family, Hades up and kills them anyway. Two, he is so focused on revenge that his mind is clouded with hatred and doesn't consider it. Plus, Kratos is kind of a meathead, not realizing the eagle, the symbolic animal of Zeus, was the one that took his power, not Athena.
So after you're done with God of War, are you gonna get back on doing the Bayonetta series?
Good to see that Hoop God is acknowledged by Olympus.
the reason kratos doesnt go back is explained at the very beginning of the game.
Gaia says, By defeating ares, kartos the once mortal warrior became the new god of war. He has found a new family with the warriors of sparta, bringing solice for his past.
literally the first thing gaia says
What a coincidence, Kratos is bearded in the new God of War game announced at this year's E3; more specifically, at the PlayStation conference.
holy what kratos is the complestionest
hearing Athena shout like Kratos was hysterical
