I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your videos (especially the NYAB 101 and Hmong cooking videos). Growing up as first generation Hmong American daughters, we always got called lazy and stupid for not knowing how to cook, clean, butcher animals, garden/farm and other things. But, the main reason was that nobody had the patience to teach us. Also, we had to go to school and do homework, whereas most girls in Laos/Thailand/etc did not always have the privilege. Of course, I still learned a couple things here and there (mostly learned by myself because my parents would get angry and never showed me how to do anything). I got married to a White man, moved away from my family, and crave Hmong food all the time (I live in a state with almost no Hmong population). Your videos help me fill in the blanks with the things I didn't learn. Thank you so much! From one Hmong daughter to another.
Thank you for your comment. I'm from Ohio so there aren't many Hmong folks here either but I think we're actually a lot slower to adapt and are quite traditional due to lack of outside influence. My older sister is a lot like you, my mom definitely didn't have the patience to teach her because my mom was still young and had the energy. I'm the youngest so my mom was tired and older by the time I was growing up. I had to do a lot of stuff alone as my sisters were all gone and out of the house. The How to Clean and Gut Chicken video was actually done because my mom forced me to do it for my sister's postpartum diet! My sister's don't have to do the kind of work I do. lol. I'm so happy that my videos are able to bring you the taste Hmong food. I hope your husband enjoys it with you from time to time.
Thanks for your helpful videos! Please make more. I used to cook so much more when I was younger because our family of 12 were together. Now most of us live in different states so I don’t cook as much. Trying to be a better cooker than I was and also learn more skills/basics for the future. Even tho I don’t have a bf haha 😆
Thank you for watching and supporting. I just hit a dry spell but Ill be back soon once my garden is lush! And nows the time to learn and mess up because youre not going to want to do that when you have inlaws. ❤
LOL, just keepin' it real! OMG, if I didn't rinse the rice my momma would beat me! She used to make me rinse rice every night as a kid then she'd make it in the morning.
Cooking in general is meant to be creative, there are no set rules. Sticky rice should at least be soaked in water for a few hours or overnight... or other methods can be used to make sticky rice but this is the way I make it. If you dont wanna rinse your rice and thats the way you cook then you do you!
Thank you for making these videos! With COVID-19, I can't go to Hmong Town and buy Hmong food when I'm craving. ;o; Maybe I can be more than nyab $4.99 someday LOL

My mom said it wasn't necessary to wash sticky rice either 🤷♀️

Lol, i live in Ohio so I NEVER get to go to Hmong town to buy Hmong food... maybe 1x a year if Im lucky! Haha.
@@bonntaub It is too easy to get it in Minnesota LOL. Plus the grannies make it better than me... but with your recipes, maybe that will change 😭
I just want to know what the sprinkling of water does at the end?
LOL, it creates just enough moisture so that the rice at the top isn't hard. If you add too much water then it'll be soggy, no water then it's hard.
