- Sam Hogan's video: • I Made a Game Inside a...
A short game, but there's a game inside it, and a game inside that. Some puzzle-y recursion and inception that elevates a golf based game to the next level! It's good fun, hope you all enjoy the format!

What do you guys think about short games? It might be rare to find short games that are as creative as this one, but if you know of any, I'd love to hear about them.
Day five of telling he Smells like roses
Love it because sam hogan
Angry birds lol
Gud
You should play stick with it
I guess it's a twice in a lifetime shot haha
Haha
It’s a really cool game with an interesting concept
Yee
Hey Sam, I've been with you since the very beginning. Love your content bro, keep it up!
Arent you the guy who made that bug riddled game
I never expected Aliensrock to play one of Sam Hogan's games in a video but it is a pleasant surprise nonetheless
same
Most ambitious crossover etc etc
Yeah
A surprise to be sure but a welcome one
Neither did I XD

For anyone interested, the orange square shape is called a Menger Sponge ( or Sierpinski Carpet, or Cantor set depending on how particular with history you want to be). It has infinite perimeter and 0 area! These exist in every finite dimensional space!
Sponge typically is the 3D version, the cantor set is 1D, and carpet is 2D
Romaji This is a choice of language. When you study real analysis, any set with these properties in R^n is called a Cantor set.
@@jzcook77 No. The Cantor set is totally disconnected. The Menger sponge is connected.
@@columbus8myhw Look carefully at the construction of a standard Cantor set (not one of the fat ones that you consider in a measure theory class). This is simply a higher dimensional version of that construction. Some mathematicians call all of these things “Cantor-like sets”
@@jzcook77 Mathematicians _do_ have a more general conception of a Cantor set (also called a Cantor _space_), but I think you're slightly misremembering the characterization.
A Cantor space is a nonempty compact metrizable space that's totally disconnected and has no isolated points. ("Metrizable" is automatic if you're in R^n; "compact" in the context of R^n means closed and bounded.)
Nicely, all Cantor spaces are homeomorphic, so it's equivalent to state that a space is a Cantor space iff it's homeomorphic to the standard middle-thirds Cantor set.
(My favorite Cantor space, incidentally, is "Antoine's necklace", a special subset of R^3 which you can learn about on Wikipedia and on Google Images. (Rémi Coulon made a physical version!))
Unfortunately, the definition _does_ include "totally disconnected", so the Menger sponge is excluded.
Yay my pre sleep ritual is here
Yo wait same lmao I go to work in 7 hours so I watch him
It’s just became a joke in almost all the commenters at this point lol. I’ve seen so many people agree with these types of comments
Yes
Me too I fall asleep to it
Are you sure you're not me?
Hogan has another game called "Cell Machine" that's also a lot of fun. You should give it a shot!
i agree with this! i want to see him play it too.
edit: on reconciliation this makes me sound a bit bottish, but i assure you, i failed the turing test.

The amount of times he bumps into the platform he’s trying to jump onto because he aims too close infuriates me
Because I’d like to point this out and because I sound a bit rude here, I’m just joking and I understand he’s used to other games with different movement. I’m actually pretty impressed he’s able to understand what’s going on because I get lost sometimes during the video
Yeah its a tad painful
Parabolas are unknown, nobody’s ever solved gravity before
To be fair, he's used to moving on a grid
give this man a chance he's never played a game with this kind of mechanic in a long time
Yeah totally understandable just wish he'd put a little more effort into adjustment instead of tossing the poor cube at basically the same angle every time
I like the way that Tyler played through this entire game and at no point did he figure out that the power of the launch depends on how far away he clicks.
8:45 for that super eagle move is called a seagle
6:19 Tyler accidentally saves a few moves
The "stacking strategy" for the last level is actually possible so long as you abuse the recursion to make multiple duplicates. By launching squares into the smaller version and immediately sending the other out, you can make 4 or so large blocks that can barely stack up with almost no turns to spare.
16:29 That was beautiful lmfao
Me every time Tyler launches himself *at* a ledge instead of onto it:
"You fool, you fell victim to one of the classic blunders!"
i swear the music cuts out at the exact perfect times

I just watched the video Sam made on this, and this. I am happy, and my day can not be ruined.
You've jinxed yourself.
You'll find a tin of cookies, only to find a sewing kit when you open the tin
This isn't a curse by me, this is a jinx
is that a challenge
It's absolutely hilarious to see how bad Tyler is with the trajectory type games 😂 his only weakness!
**sees video**
"oh hey another game inside a game video!"
**looks at who made it**
"wait what? how?"
also can you play his other games (stick with it, cell machine)
Yes, do cell machine

What about something where people submit short concept games like this one that only take one video to play? That way some of the best concepts could go on to become full games with a little free promotion from the videos. It would be a great way for developers to try things out and have them played by you.
That’s called a Game Jam, and many ppl have already made it. Basically, a theme is given and contestants have anywhere between a few days and a few weeks to make a functional game that fits the theme. The most popular one has consistently been GMTK’s Game Jam
@@tabnk2 that's a good point I forgot about game jams.

Watching Tyler evolve into a puzzle master has been a great journey.
Found your channel just a few days ago. Have to say, I'm enjoying myself. Keep up the good work!
When you’re so fast that the video isn’t even on his channel yet.
if i had to pick one person to watch on youtube for the rest of my life ur my first pick by a long shot. love ur content makes my day
I played this when it was posted and it was very fun! I would love to see more little things like this in the future

You should look up Maquette, it's a first person puzzle game based on this concept (It comes out later this year, I believe)
Really loved the video! More like this would be amazing
Me: ok I see
My brain: hmmmmmmmmm
This is a super interesting idea for a game. Enjoyed watching this one!

No kids.
I watched do many people play this game and their treating the square like a circle, so it keeps hitting the edge of platforms. I like to see them fail when they dont know they need to give the shape space.
This game looks really cool I hope you can play more games similar to this one loved the video ❤️
"and the meta plan of complaining about it until it magically happens is undefeated".
i see that tyler has learnt from the master that is the pig

2:45 You couldn't shoot upwards because there was infinate mass above you. Just looking at the blocks on screen it only seems like there is 1 big block above you (which you probably have enough velocity to push), but if we assume it continues off screen, above that block is another bigger block, and above that another even bigger block, etc. Therefore there is infinate mass above you, and your velocity is finite.
very interesting concept! needs 100 more levels for sure!
looks like a cool game, very interesting concept AND a youtube exclusive...I will definitely want to see more of this
Eh.. how is it a UA-cam exclusive. It was submitted to a game jam. Are you implying that everybody who had participated in that game jam was a youtuber and had uploaded a video on it? 🤨
Like, other people who are not youtubers clearly could've played it. Unless I'm misunderstanding something here..
More of stuff like this would be great, i may love a long puzzle game, but i dont always have time to be invested in a crazy puzzle series
best game concept ive seen in eons
that was nice to watch. better than some other things.
I thought I was rewatching Sam Hogan's video, just watched it about 2 days ago. I can't believe Aliensrock is playing this.
This was a fun one to watch
what an awesome video, this game is really cool
Whoa? Wasn't expecting that
Im here right after i watched sam hogan. perfect timing :)
This game looks trippy. It would be cool to see more levels added in future.
You are my hero, I was like wtf the whole game

I saw the video about the creation of the game, it's a cool trippy experience
Oh shit! Its sam hogan! Didnt expect that game on your channel..
YOOO I love Sam hogan games!
Ahhhhhhhh I need sleep Tyler
Cell Machine also by Sam Hogan is another fun short puzzle game
also if you're looking for a longer puzzle adventure then i can't recommend anything more than Unstable which is a flash game that has been archived on Flashpoint
this is a really cool game and looks fun.
9:35 the level that says GG before you complete it hehe
Such a good idea for a game.
The square looks like a cookie
This looks every bit as intuitive and infuriatingly complex as I imagined a game about fractals would be.

Can't believe, that Tyler completed this game without spamming cubes.
3:39 "set myself up so that I can easily crap"
finally, a sam hogan game... took you long enough lmao
12:54 "Alright, urine."
I’d have watched this earlier, but he was streaming, and I wanted to see it live.
if the first minute of the game was like that i cant even imagine the rest lol
0:33 Serpisky cube maybe
I think Tyler would like the Nancy Drew Games, decent amount of puzzles, mysteries, good for streaming, less so for UA-cam videos, but he should check them out! Recommend Shadow at the Waters Edge, or Warnings at Waverly Academy!!
I was not expecting you to play this game.
Actually a really well made game fucking impressive
Did you know you can one shot level 7 with the perfect angle? It's such a satisfying shot! You can also take advantage of a glitch to one shot level 15, but it isn't reliable and can cause you to wait forever on some runs. Sometimes, the perfect level 15 shot won't take too long because no infinitely small clones are created, but tons of big ones are.
Maybe you've heard of it but Maquette is a puzzle game coming out this year that uses recursion, looks fun
I hear UA-cam exclusive content, instant like.
I do the last level differently. I launch the small one in and the big one out until I get a stack of two on the left side and some extras, and then I make a stack of three, which is enough rightward height to make it to the platform with the goal.
6:15 hey me too, why do you record/upload in 1080p then, if it's not even the size of your screen?
Let's GOOOOO I love Sam Hogan
This game is incredible
I JUST watched sam's video on creating this, too
I saw the thumbnail and thought it was a part 2 development video. But a gameplay video might be even cooler.
I love that the blocks are 2D menger sponges

This reminds me of "Hello Worlds!" on Kongregate. It's a puzzle platformer browser game with multiple dimensions (splitscreen), where obstacles in any dimension affect your movement in each.
It's already 10 years old, but if you haven't played it yet, you may give it a try.
You will need a browser extension like supernova though since it's a flash game and adobe flash is dead.
like the short games a lot.
The secret final world of Patrick's Parabox
I'm not sure if this is my brain working the mechanics of the game into a quote or a theme of persistence but "the world is permanent but you the character will change".
If you're looking for a game about recursion, check out Recused. It's basically if the meta game of Baba is the whole puzzle mechanic.
The first time I saw this game was the speedrun and its insane
