Sam Hogan Someone that commented on my game worded it better than I could. "This reminds me of PTSD with Bennet Fodey", more commonly known as 'Getting Over It'. It's called JumBean's Great Escape. You're a jumping bean that jumps over nachos to escape being eaten by flying away on a bottle of salsa. Only my second jam but I had a lot of fun, it was my first REAL attempt at level design. I think it turned out well given that I was also watching a new puppy while making the game. Not perfect, but I'm happy with the learning experience :) itch.io/jam/gmtk-2020/rate/697358
Facts Tamizhan You can play it in a PC web browser or download it on a PC for now, if you'd like. I'd like to start releasing games on Apple's App Store and the Play Store. But Apple hates developers that don't have a Mac and I don't have an android device as of now. So it would be difficult to test an android build, impossible for an iPhone build. I do want to get into releasing apps at some point though.
Sweet! This is a really cool idea! I like that solutions just sort of happen if you experiment enough. I like how with level 8 for example you sort of have to let it play out first before you can visualize how to complete it. The distorted pixel art look is cool in my opinion also. Loved that you used the game of life as segment transitions too :D Awesome job!
Thanks Garrett! Haha that could also just be bad level design on my part. The pixel stuff didn't turn out too bad i guess, but I could definitely do with following some tutorials. Thanks so much for playing it!!!
The ads you get are stolen, Sam Hogan doesn't have any ads that he owns so the ads you see are form someone who stole the game and is using it to get quick money
A cool way to extend the life cycle of this game for "relatively" little effort is a map editor that exports level data as a string. Just give each cell a unique character and export it to a string row by row. then add a play button for custom levels that asks for a string input field. This way levels can be shared easily without much effort. Of course it's no guarantee they're playable from start to finish. But it's always a nice feature that's relatively easy to make.
He could implement a feature where you have to complete the level before you can upload a string, that would almost solve the uncompletable problem. Unless you edited the string
Me: Play level 11 for 30 mins but haven't figured out the method The game: Hey, ummmm these blocks CAN be moved (those dark ones) Me: *ooooooooooooooooo*
The same thing happened to me. What's really frustrating is I noticed this a few levels prior and forgot. It wasn't half an hour, but it was definitely longer than would've been if I had just remembered sooner.
Here’s a tip: If you put the pixels randomly, the block will look rough as sandpaper. If you put it in a ‘linear’ line so to speak, it will look smooth. -A decent artist
You'd really spend $15 on a simple generic game that took less than 2 days to make and would (or rather should) be practically free on the app store? And to play it on your console? Yikes.

This game would be AMAZING with a level editor and level sharing
fr tho
He would need a server to store the levels, but I agree.
Maybe a sandbox where we can just do random things.
@@GSFigure not really. you can have seeds to share games
@@GSFigure That is not true.
Server is the mode common way, but I remember there is 1 game on Google play store that uses twitter
This method does not work due to twitter change their picture format anymore and the game has been taken down, but it shows potential
Yes, I said picture format. The game uses the picture uploaded into the twitter to get how the level is laid out.
I don't know how he do it, but it is definitely possible (Unfortunately, will need to use different service now that uses the old twitter file format, which I don't know what's the format is..)

Idea, (I know the competition is already over but hear me out): A Sandbox mode for the players to create levels or just play around a little bit with the game.
Elrohir yes yes yes
Thats genius
That actually exists (it's by smartfridgegamer) but it still doesnt give you THAT much space. Enough to make a very basic calculator though

You can use pre-built items, or code your own.

I took part in the GMTK Jam this year too, was a really fun experience :)
Awesome! What's your game?
Sam Hogan Someone that commented on my game worded it better than I could.
"This reminds me of PTSD with Bennet Fodey", more commonly known as 'Getting Over It'. It's called JumBean's Great Escape. You're a jumping bean that jumps over nachos to escape being eaten by flying away on a bottle of salsa.
Only my second jam but I had a lot of fun, it was my first REAL attempt at level design. I think it turned out well given that I was also watching a new puppy while making the game. Not perfect, but I'm happy with the learning experience :)
itch.io/jam/gmtk-2020/rate/697358
Also, the controls were VERY HEAVILY inspired by Stick With It.
@@Chlo_R0 Please Make that available on Play store

Me: Play level 11 for 30 mins but haven't figured out the method
The game: Hey, ummmm these blocks CAN be moved (those dark ones)
Me: *ooooooooooooooooo*
SAME.
Aaaaah I spent like half an hour on level 11, didn't even consider the grey blocks being movable at all
Lol🤣
The same thing happened to me. What's really frustrating is I noticed this a few levels prior and forgot. It wasn't half an hour, but it was definitely longer than would've been if I had just remembered sooner.
I finished every level exept level 11untill I noticed.

If you put the pixels randomly, the block will look rough as sandpaper.
If you put it in a ‘linear’ line so to speak, it will look smooth.

@@nicefloweytheoverseer7632 you don’t know of the whole yandere simulator situation… do you?
