SKIN CARE TIPS- treating dry skin
I am a laser and procedural dermatologist, however skin care forms an integral part of skin rejuvenation and skin health. This topic is basic general dermatology, however the importance of skin hydration cannot be over looked, especially post chemical peels and laser resurfacing. Skin hydration can decrease wrinkles, fine lines and improve skin texture. We loose skin thickness and oil glands as we age, and this accounts for dry skin or xerosis. Dry skin can also be due to medical causes such as atopic eczema, drugs, and genetic causes. This topic goes beyond the scope of this video. Here are some helpful hints to treat dry skin-
Grease for peace. Use a bland fragrance free moisturiser of your choice at least twice a day. The best time to use a moisturiser is straight after a bath or shower.
Keep showers quick and tepid, no longer than 3 minutes. Use a soap subitute.
If possible have an oil bath twice a week. Olive oil is a cheap but effective method of treating super dry skin
Wet wraps- old trick for patient who have super dry skin -especially atopic eczema
Remember your lips- lots of chapstick, or simple Vaseline. My favourite all time flexible cream is Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour cream. Cheap, simple, effective and versatile. I have done a video on this
Washing. Remember to avoid chemicals such as softeners and conditioners for your clothes. Use liquid wash, and above all put your washing machine in the double rinse cycle. Yes, I do my own laundry!
Drink plenty of water and review your diet. Intake of certain foods can increase natural oil production. This however play a small but important role in some cases of dry skin.
Hints for dry hands - use Neutrogena hand cream 4-5 times a day, remember to use it just before sleeping at night.
Hints for dry eyes- use Ircal or LacriLube eye ointment on your eyelids. This product is medical grade, and made by Allergan the maker of Botox. This eye cream is a well kept dermatologist favourite- its light enough to wear as an ointment before sleeping, and the cost is only $10-$15. IMO bet eye cream.
Facial masks are a form of wet wrapping. As part of the Korean Skin Care craze, they actually do work. Treat yourself to a Hyaluronic Acid mask weekly-
Cost is only $3- $6 dollars. Super affordable and they actually do work.
I do not advice nor endorse any products, just suggest as above. These videos are done to help educate patients, but most importantly assist me in explaining skin care to my post-operative laser patients. If I have to go into so much detail 12 times a day, it would be so repetitively boring- hence these videos cover all aspects of skin care- from Vitamin A, retinoids, ABC’s of skin care, sunscreens and more. They are a resource for my post procedure patients and shared to all those who want to learn about proper skin care, without endorsements. Thank you to my team of nurses and dermal therapist who assist me in further explaining post operative laser skin care on a daily basis.
One new video on skin care, skin care tips, laser dermatology, and how to achieve better healthier skin one week at a time. One new video every Saturday morning, Brisbane Australia time.
PLEASE SUBSCRIBE and TURN YOUR NOTIFICICATIONS ON for new videos.

You are the best! Mature woman, Retin A user, with dry skin that gets SUPER parched in the Minnesota winter...was considering a heavier cream moisturizer in the winter but game changer was adding a humidifier. That and drinking tons of water, HA topical, eating healthy fats such as my daily avocado and yes, fish oil omega supplements. Oh, and adding 5% glycolic toner a few times a week took care of the peelings. When I added these things my year round cerave continues to work just fine.

-fragranced oils on in order to help alleviate the discomfort. I cannot use any lotions-just irritates them more. I’ve tried minimal ingredient, fragrance free products. My dermatologist suggested trying different oils. This was several years ago. I cannot wear wool or cashmere without wanting to rip the sleeves off. 😩. I will give this a try. Do you think the oils will be as effective with the wet/dry approach? Love your educations! Thanks.

Love my face masks - I can’t go to Sephora without picking up a couple!!
As always - great video! Started using my clarisonic again with just cetaphil and I have noticed an improvement in dryness - Canadian winters are no joke!

Yes, I have no doubt about your winters, I think anything less than 21 degrees celsius is COLD, its genetic, its in my DNA... Cheers, Davin Lim

Great tips. I will be adding several of your suggestions to my skin care. Besides aging I also take meds that are often dehydrating . But those are things I can not avoid. Hopefully these things will help.

Hi Dr. Davin Lim this video was EXCELLENT!!!! Extremely informative!!!! I was wondering if antispasmodic medications could cause your skin to be dry also???? Thank you soooo much for this video!!! I really learned a lot especially the wet wrapping!!! ❤️😃

Yes, hence the vvvv dry hands of doctors, nurses, dentists, and assistants, as we are constantly washing hands between patients. DL.

Very informative video, thank you. Would be interested in hearing your skincare tips for plane flights, especially really long ones. I imagine using one or two of the korean face masks inflight would actually be a good start, but would love to know if you have any other suggestions.

Thank you Dr Lim. I use the somewhat higher end moisturisers and always wondered if they are same as the ones available in the pharmacy. Now I know. Also great to know about wet wraps. One question is : is it true that moisturised skins are less likely to have pigmentation.?

Dr. Davin, thank you for the tips. Do you think applying aloe vera (just plain aloe vera from the plant) as a face mask could help dry skin? I have seen several videos about it but I would like to know your thoughts on it. I appreciate it if you could let me/us know. Thank you.

Due to lack of care, I have very dry skin now. On my journey to hydrate and moisturize my skin back. Thanks Dr! If I could recommend to others, I'd say Rosken is worth trying.

During the day I use FAB facial radiance pads. If I'm not going to have much UV exposure I just pat merula oil on top. If UV exposure, I have a cream w/ chemical spf. I get a lot of compliments on my skin texture. I'm 41.
And on body I put on jojoba out of the shower while skin is still wet, then put on Eucrin with spf after I've dried. Amlactin lotion before bed.

    Hey,
Love your channel, is the use of nightly redwin sorbolene bad for your face in the long term? I cleanse with a light cleanser and use tretinoin a couple times a week at night with sorbolene for its anti ageing properties.
