The ordinary niacinamide and cerave pm with niacinamide both break me out. I guess I am one of the few people who could get irritation from niacinamide
. Please don’t use niacinamide if you have sensitive skin especially the one from ordinary. This is because for sensitive skin, we should not use anything more than 5% otherwise it will cause a reaction. If you do need a serum, stick with alpha arbutin from the ordinary , the results are slow but it works :) hope this helps.
Completely anecdotal, but my 14 year old son with sensitive skin has been using the ordinary’s niacinamide 10 % for acne and his skin irritation calmed down within days of starting this product. But everyone’s skin is different. I don’t think you can compare concentrations of different actives. For example a 2.5 % Benzoyl Peroxide can be more irritating than a 10% Niacinamide. And even the same concentration of the same active can be more irritating in one formulation than another formulation.

Hey Dr. Love your content. As a person who suffers from adult acne and hyperpigmentation I can relate to the content you post and has made me understand things so much better. Azelac acid is a saviour for me. Since I just moved to Australia I have had trouble adjust from humid (India) climate to dry climate. I was on a search for azelac acid products and found Azclear in chemist warehouse and it has done wonder. Somthing that expensive product like Dennis gross Peter Thomas Roth products could not do. I swear by it. It's the best. The 20%cream the serum n the SPF moisturizer the work so well on my skin n under makeup.
Did buy azaleic acid powder and dissolved it in a solution, but it did irritated they skin, but I learnedt that the dosage was to high, only had dilute it. Thanks for information doctor
Many thanks for this. I’m sure I’ve overdone things causing a huge eruption, uncomfortable, but I’m taking your advice here and stepping back to a more gentle approach for a while.
I have bought azeliac acid from the ordinary. I have sensitive skin it works but stings my face. However I don't get any skin reactions as I am prone to atopic dermatitis, I only use it at night. I also use niacinamide / hyaluronic acid.
100% what you've mentioned (as someone with minor rosacea)! I have been using a retinoid under derm supervision, but it took almost 9 months for me to adjust to weekly use. I can't use BP at all. And I just started using an L-AA serum twice a week, but honestly I might drop it for a derivative or altogether. It makes me flush every time I use it!
Thank you Dr Lim...I have been using these products...transitioned after years of buying/consuming/experimenting expensive ones...I have to say I am a fan of Ordinary products... as I only buy the products which my skin needs...Unlike those fancy ones that may contain other ingredients which can irritate my skin!...I have a very sensitive skin...Experimenting is always a risk! lol!
Hello! I have rosacea and acne prone skin, of course it's extremely sensitive, and I use the ordinary's azelaic acid and niacinamide products, both have helped me a lot! Niacinamide reduces redness and azelaic acid has help my skin with pore clogging and reduces inflammation as well. Both support my skin and keep it balanced, haven't broken out severally in a long time. Haven't tried hyaluronic acid, I have heard that can be irritating, I have to try it. Thank u so much for the info, I tried all these products because I read the information you post Everytime I can, and you have recommended them for rosacea, I'm very grateful because they changed my skincare routine for the better 😊😁
I have regular episodes of perioral dermatitis and many things irritate my skin. I like using products but stick to AproDerm colloidal oatmeal when my skin isn’t happy. I struggle to use sunscreen, I haven’t found a good one. Currently trying le Roche Posay factor 30, very drying though. I had been using retinoid from The ordinary each night seemingly ok for my skin but interesting to hear your points on what to try use/avoid. Thank you x
I have dealt with rosacea, acne, and eczema. I’m very fair and my skin burns easily. My favourite products are ha and niacinamide! Never tried azelaic acid though- will have to give it a shot!! And yes, my skin doesn’t like vitamin c!!! I do use a prescription retinol, but I don’t use it in the summer months. Would love to hear your opinion on pha for sensitive skin!
I have a sensitive, oily and acne prone skin and I use the inkey list pha. So far good. I started with twice a week and gently increased usage. You should try it. It didn't sting or irritate even after my first use. It may not work as fast as Aha/Bha but you'll see results eventually.
Really nice video, Dr. Lim. I have a question you might consider covering. I often hear dermatologists talk about the individuality of each patient: "everyone is different", "case by case" basis, etc. Everyone seems to be an N of 1. Why exactly is that? Could you explain on a deeper level than just the skin? What do we know about genes? What would be the "ideal" skin types to have? Is anyone working on gene therapy for skin disorders, particularly cosmetic disorders? What about gene therapies that could resist deep UV penetration (rather than applying sunscreen every day)? Nerd out!
Azelic Acid from Paulas Choice has not irritated my very sensitive acne prone skin and has given a nice brightening effect. Have have problems with Niacinamide (B) has unfortunately worsened my breakouts.
I used Azelaic acid for my acne. BP or any other anti acne creams irritated my dehydrated skin even more. I really loved it as it was not as drying and at the same time I saw great results with it. I now switched to tretinoin for my spots and for anti aging as well as an HA moisturiser (CeraVe in tub) and squalane oil as an Occlusive and my skin looks better than ever!
I've tried azealic acid three times. For PIH and PIE, this is really good. Unfortunately I do not really like the texture. But its overall ingredients help disguise and eliminate PIH and PIE. Thank you doc!
I have very sensitive skin due to shingles basically on my upper back in my shoulders. I basically use coconut oil seems like is the only thing that I can use that doesn't drive me to tears. Even taking a shower sometimes hurts. I've been using baby shampoo or a body wash seems like everything else irritates me. Yes my doctor has put me on us prescription are supposed to help , At no Avail they don't help me. Crazy assist sounds seems like the Amish thing that helps when they break open Is something that's not even supposed to be use for it but it works for me Mupirocin ointment helps dry them up .
Exactly the only 3 things I use in my regime👍🏻 Doc, what can sensitive skin ppl use for *anti-aging* since you don’t recommend retinol/retinoids? I wanted to try Differin but I don’t want to trigger rosacea
I remember someone else saying that even if you use hyaluronic acid in the shower or next to the humidifier that it won't matter because it continues to draw moisture from the air for several hours. I'm not sure if this is true or not but I guess as long as you use an occlusive it wouldn't matter right? I've also been wondering of other hydrating alternatives to use during the dry climate other than hyaluronic acid. I live in Ohio where the summers are very humid but the winters are super dry so I have to switch out almost everything in my routine
Hi, I enjoy your videos. Thank you. What can I use for the crepey skin above the eyes (between the eye lids and the eye brows) in order the tighten the skin? I'm 53 y/o.
Could you pls talk about urea for the skin barrier? Also, if we get a formulation of urea made in our local pharmacies, what other ingredients would be good to add (non clogging)?
i love this video but ironically i have a terribly sensitive skin, and everything EVERYTHING irritates my skin including 90% of the face washes shampoos and masks. however Benzoyl peroxide 2.5% was the BEST thing for my oily sensitive skin, no more acne at ALL. and the only thing now i have to deal with is hyperpigmentation on oily sensitive skin and im scared to try BHA cuz any irritant will lead to more breakouts and more hyperpigmentation. sooo yeah, oily sensitive skin with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation struggles
Ive try azelaic from the ordinary because I had some pimples..(stress caused .I'm.30years old)..and i used it with niacinamide serum ..and it helped me so much .but at the begining was kind of ichy sensation.....but I got rid of marks...and pimples...the i just stick to the niacinamide serum... plus marine hyaluronic ..all from the ordinary..and my combination skin is doing great:)
Thank you doctor Lim. All of your videos are very helpful but i guess this video is the most helpful for me at this time since i guess my face was irritated. I think i introduced too much product to my skin during the lockdown, 😅 i started using vitamin c and skin medica lytera 2.0 in the morning. THEN AT every night im using vitamin ( p50 pigm400) and skinceuticals retinol 0.5. Even if my face hurts when applying suncreen i still use it cause i thought i cant skip it but thank you for letting me know that i can skip it for atleast 5 days til the barrier is okay. My face is better now the peeling is gone after a week, put im about to have a period so im having pimples so earlier today i used benzoyl peroxide which ive been using before w/o a painful feeling but today i felt a little burning on my face so i rinsed it off with cold water, then i skipped vitamin c then applied vitamin b5 baume by la rosche posay then a sunscreen. 🥴 thank you i was sad to see the products that must avoid 😅 but i guess my face is not really that sensitive cause i can tolerate the p50 pigm400. But i learned a lot on this video ill try not to overstrip my face with all the products im using 😅 keep it up dr Lim. You are helping sooo many people with your videos. 😘😘😘😘
I had a lot of pimples as in breakout last month then I tried to put at night as a spot treatment was 'innisfree bija spot essence ' my face wash was Pyungkang Yul Acne Cleanser. In the morning I use The ordinary Niacinamide and then Dr. Green sunscreen it's really light specially if you don't want fragrances. Every once or twice a week I used TO bha +aha peeling solution. My face now was really smooth pimples gone. I found my skin allergic to retinoids and benzoyl peroxide which causes my skin sensitivity and drying that's why stopped it. I realize the more the simple your skincare the more you see the better results.

Thank you! this is has been very helpful. I have a question: What order in the skincare regimen and how often should you use such products (I have very dry skin)? E.g. hyaluronic acids, niacinamide, lactic acid, vit C and retinol. I've heard that some should only be used once a week or every other day, and some products are better in the morning than at night. I really appreciate your content!!

I like your presentations - updated and well informative as well as evidence based
Did buy azaleic acid powder and dissolved it in a solution, but it did irritated they skin, but I learnedt that the dosage was to high, only had dilute it.
Thank you for help us Dr. Lim.!
I did not find any advice on sensitive skin..this is very helpful ❤️
Thank u for the video and posting your notes in the comments !
GREAT video Dr Davin.
I really enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the good work! It's great that you are making more videos now!
I just love this video. So clear no bullshit.......
Loved it u r literally saving our world. Stay blessed and please keep up with fab videos. Much Gratitude from Sydney
I want to thank u again Dr..i really was struggling with issues related to sensitive skin and u made me deal with it in a gud way..
Thank you for continuing to educate us on correct use.
I've tried azealic acid three times. For PIH and PIE, this is really good. Unfortunately I do not really like the texture. But its overall ingredients help disguise and eliminate PIH and PIE. Thank you doc!
Which one did you used?
I have very sensitive skin due to shingles basically on my upper back in my shoulders. I basically use coconut oil seems like is the only thing that I can use that doesn't drive me to tears. Even taking a shower sometimes hurts. I've been using baby shampoo or a body wash seems like everything else irritates me. Yes my doctor has put me on us prescription are supposed to help , At no Avail they don't help me. Crazy assist sounds seems like the Amish thing that helps when they break open Is something that's not even supposed to be use for it but it works for me Mupirocin ointment helps dry them up .
Exactly the only 3 things I use in my regime👍🏻
Doc, what can sensitive skin ppl use for *anti-aging* since you don’t recommend retinol/retinoids? I wanted to try Differin but I don’t want to trigger rosacea
Remember sunscreen! That’s basic knowledge tho, but the best honestly.
y tho sunscreen’s a given, haven’t missed it for the last decade
What brands do you use?
I remember someone else saying that even if you use hyaluronic acid in the shower or next to the humidifier that it won't matter because it continues to draw moisture from the air for several hours. I'm not sure if this is true or not but I guess as long as you use an occlusive it wouldn't matter right? I've also been wondering of other hydrating alternatives to use during the dry climate other than hyaluronic acid. I live in Ohio where the summers are very humid but the winters are super dry so I have to switch out almost everything in my routine
Have you ever heard of CoQ10? There's a Q10 serum from the Inkey List.
Geek and Gorgeous aPad( an AA) is really wonderfull for my acne prone skin.Thank you dr Lim for your great advices😄!
Azelaic acid has been amazing for my roseacea.....Paulas choice.
Hi, I enjoy your videos. Thank you. What can I use for the crepey skin above the eyes (between the eye lids and the eye brows) in order the tighten the skin? I'm 53 y/o.
Any recommendations on what skin care products can be relatively safe for people with eczema?
Wow! Thanks for all the wonderful information
Could you pls talk about urea for the skin barrier? Also, if we get a formulation of urea made in our local pharmacies, what other ingredients would be good to add (non clogging)?
Are hyaluronic acid and retinol the same "type" of product or do they serve the same purpose? New subscriber here.
i love this video but ironically i have a terribly sensitive skin, and everything EVERYTHING irritates my skin including 90% of the face washes shampoos and masks. however Benzoyl peroxide 2.5% was the BEST thing for my oily sensitive skin, no more acne at ALL. and the only thing now i have to deal with is hyperpigmentation on oily sensitive skin and im scared to try BHA cuz any irritant will lead to more breakouts and more hyperpigmentation. sooo yeah, oily sensitive skin with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation struggles
Thank u so much Dr for ur time..
U explained every thing so well..God Bless u..
Thanks so much! The description box is excellent, like the video, and very helpful.
Can you do a video for mature skin that doesn’t have acne, or other problems besides sagging and wrinkles
Hada labo is a nice affordable option for moisturizers. Really love there premium lotion, the premium gel cream and the regular gel cream.
Is it good for sensitive skin?
Thank you very much from Spain, i have learnt a lot from your videos, i think i have acne rosacea skin plus malasma :( but i havent found a dermatologist that can treat my sensitive skin. Thank you so much for your advices.
Thank you! this is has been very helpful.
@RJ thank you! I was more curious about on how often I should use those products so you've been very helpful 🙂
Thank you so much for this video Dr. Lim. Lots of helpful pointers for me.
Hello, doc. Just wanted to thank You for the Great content. I have been loving it!
It would be helpful if you could make a video about sensitive skin . How do I know if I have it?, why it happens, is it temporary? Is it a skin type, condition or something else?
Saludos desde Chile 😊
Thank you so much for the info, started using vitamin c and my skin is very irritated, this really helps
Hi Dr. Lim,
Thank you for your video. Can Hyaluronic acid used with Retinoids?
My skin is an example of one that cannot take vitC. I can use AHA, BHA, tretinol 0.05% without any problem, but whenever I use vitC for over 1 week or so my skin breakouts😂 have tried lots of times.
Can you please tell me what the best laser is for treating broken capillaries on the face please. I used vitamin c moisteriser and it burned and broke capillaries on my face. Many thanks
Thank you. Can you please give recommendations for HA and vitamin B. Is HA and vitamin B combined in serum as effective than using it separately? and what do you think about vitamin c in form of TA?
soup thank you very much. I appreciate the information provided :)
RJ wow this is incredible information as well. Thank you for sharing your thoughts :)
Great video!! Dr, what is the benefit of using a skin wash w/hyaluronic acid when you're going to rinse it off? Does anything really penetrate in the short time it's on your face? Otherwise, I'll stick w/the cheap wash and after wash serums, etc.
Thank you so much for making all these videos. You are by far my favorite dermatologist on UA-cam. ❤️I would like to ask a question regarding sensitive skin. I have extremely sensitive skin, so any facial scrubs and black heads extractions irritate my skin badly. Any tips and trick for deep cleansing and black head treatments for highly sensitive skin, but also acne prone. Thank you very much!

I thought it was strange when I just started to react to my organic products that I have been using for the past 6 months. I think the culprit is Essiential oils.I’m not a fan of the over the counter chemical products. Any suggestions .I’m currently using Vaseline
Which alcohol names should we be on the look out for in skincare products that might be harmful to our skin?
Hi Dr, Lim! I started using retinol 1% (ordinary) and people say you get really dry skin. I used it for 7 days every night a few drops, but my skin is not dry. Does that mean I can use it everyday?
Hello doctor Lim, my dermat put me on benzoyl peroxide twice and both times i had sever burns on my skin. I have used salicylic acid too before and i reacted bad, i had bumps on my face that stayed for longer than two months. That's when i discovered i was actually sensitive. Now I'm afraid to try anything. My skin changes but it's mostly dry. I currently live in humid weather so i find my skin oily sometimes during the day. I'm really confused. Please help me.
thank you this video helping me a lot
but I am still asking about the good product for whitening senstive skin
Thank you, Dr. Lim. I have two skin conditions: seborrheic dermatitis and ashy dermatitis, what products could you recommend, please? Thank you very much
When it comes to actually WASHING your face what do you suggest for Acne Rosacea / Sensitive skin problems? Is there a particular cleanser or method better than others?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge
I use benzoyl peroxide and I have sensitive skin. But I only use a very small amount and I know my skin's limit.
👍🙏🤗 Thank you Dr. Lim . . . ever appreciative of time spent & bank of knowledge shared.
I read that Azelaic Acid (I use the PC 10% or the Ordinary one)does not go well with Peptides Serums or creams. Is this right?
Thanks for this video ❤❤
Hi Dr Lim, can you do a review of products like Drunken Elephant? Or others that claim to be clean ? Thanks

For reoccurring perioral dermatitis that came back after antibiotics is low dose accutane a commonly prescribed treatment. ????
