FYI, I made a medical-grade retinoid product containing my favorite ingredient (Retinal). I'm selling it for $15 (less than half the price of any other similar product on the market). Only available in the U.S. but let me know what you think if you try it! shop.heystratum.com great skincare shouldn't be expensive!!!
My dad is a dermatologist. He explain it simply retinoid "burns" your outer skin until it peels of so the new, younger skin cells can grow and replace your old outer skin. So it's natural to feel discomfort at early stage of the medication. And it's gonna be worth all the pain. No pain no gain, baby
Quite interesting, I was using retinoids in pills for quite a long time (prescribed) and they (obviously) were working in a different way. They were kinda sucking wet/fat out of my skin/pores therefore removing oiliness of skin. I am curious why retinols should work in a different way? I though they’re the same thing, but gentler.
@@abd12459 try first using a gentle cleanser and then let your skin dry for more than 20mins cuz before this duration ,applying tretinoin can irritat your skin Apply tretinoin, you need just a bit And then sleeps or do whatever you want and then wash your face gently and let you face dry for 20mins and then apply your moisture cuz before this duration it's gonna affect the tretinoin efficiency.
I’ve worked in Dermatology for 25 years and this is hands down the best explanation for 1. Why you should use it- the benefits 2. The side effects 3. The method 4. The products. The only thing I would add-never apply a retinol or Retin A product on your face when your skin is moist from cleansing. Wait at least 10 minutes. This will reduce irritation considerably.
I've been on for 2 years almost and as a competitive bodybuilder having tanned in bed for over a decade, never touched sunscreen, the aging was showing mid 30s (dull skin, forehead wrinkles, and crows feet). Along with the other must haves in the Skincare world, Tretinoin has literally reversed 90% or more of the aging skin I'd caused! One example, but certainly is the best for me
@cutazabutton I want to try retinoid. Which retinoid in Amazon would you recommend? And also, what time should retinoids should be applied and how many times a day?
@@neilfpv Only adapalene (differin) in the lower dose versionnis available via Amazon or over the counter in the US. A prescription in needed for the others. (I'm told that some countries permit other retinoids to be sold over the counter.)
i've been using tretinoin for 13 years and literally all of my friends are really curious why I haven't "aged." They told me I don't look younger than when they last saw me, but they said it just seems like my aging just "froze" in time.
Does it reverse skin aging at all or does it just freeze your skin at its last natural stage of development? Would like to lesson some recently acquired lines. 😁 (Thanks pandemic stress.)
okay, this is ABSOLUTLEY the best video on retinoid that i have ever seen. That study you showed of increase in collageen really convinced me. I was so confused. I was doing it wrong and you have nailed it and convinced me. YOU ARE AMAZING! THANKYOU I will pull out my products that I stopped using and do it properly now.
@@SkanDasz Sunscreen is for protection but Retinol is for action. Retinol would create an art, and sunscreen would keep sun away from destroying the art. You can protect the skin by not going into sun or covering the skin while going out as well. Therefore, if there's one skincare product, it should be Retinol.
I started using Tretinoin a couple of months back because none of the more expensive skin care seem to work as described on the packaging. I did go through the ugly peeling phase, with extreme dryness on my skin (my natural skin type: Oily acne prone). I had watched Dr Dray mention the timeline for Retinoic Acids to work Or start showing desirable results (roughly 6weeks plus minus depending on usage). And yes after 6 weeks, my skin stopped peeling and it became really radiant and smooth. My previously 'started to form" fine lines had disappeared (im 26). I swear this is the only additional product you need in your skin care, on top of cleanser and moisturiser. I recommend trying if you can get your hands on Retinoic Acids.
Yes been using retinoid for 3 years. It's an amazing product. I'm 30 years old now but my co-workers think I'm about 22 lol. Additionally I don't have to wear make up anymore to cover any redness or little acne spots. I just put sunscreen and I'm ready for the day
So here’s a question, retinoids which are supposed slough off the top layers of skin, and supposed to prevent the top layer of skin from being keratinized thereby remaining plump longer than it usually would, this combination effect can leave your skin rather exposed to UV radiation more than a skin that has keratin/melanin, and all this in combination causes cell proliferation, thereby preventing cells from living to long, thereby preventing cancer , all this happens in short term, but wouldn’t the same effects make your skin more susceptible to thinning, and aging? Because we are born with a set number of cell divisions per cell, as we know telomeres have set length. Wouldn’t sloughing off cells to look younger in short term, cause a thinner skin when you’re older, thereby increasing your chances of getting skin cancer more than what it would have? Also what are epigenetic effects of retinoids? If it can affect development of a fetus, can it also effect sperm/egg development? May be not in your life time, what about my kids, kids? Or do we discount those effects/side effects as too late in life for needing attention?? And I only ask this, because humans are starting to live much longer than any of our previous generations, does keeping the top layer of skin not important? Your thoughts? Thank you..
The first dermatologist that put me on Tretinoin had it high and to often. I stopped using it fairly quickly. Then switched to another highly recommended Dermatologist near me who listened to why I did not want it and took the time to explain like you do in your video. This dermatologist started me on a lower dosage only twice a week and slowly brought the amount per week up. I just turned 60 y/o this year and easily pass for my early 40's. I personally didn't notice any difference until one day around 6 months I suddenly realized I had great facial skin. I do my face, neck, entire chest, and both hands.
I’ve been using adapalene for 2.25 years and my skin has aged backwards. Tonight I start tretinoin an I’m SO excited 😆 I’m 37 and often get mistaken for being in my early 20’s ❤
I have been using prescription Tretinoin .05% for at least a decade now. I never experienced excessive reddness or irritation with the product. What works for me is, in the morning, I wash my face with regular soap and rub off the peeling skin. Then I just use Lubriderm and Walgreen's zinc 50 spf sunscreen (Cheap, don't need fancy ones). My skin is totally flawless. I had horrible acne in my teens and was taking Tetracycline and Keflex to keep it clear. Now even strangers will compliment me on my skin...it's amazing.

Thank you doc
I was prescribed Differin 20 years ago to treat adult acne and my skin never looked better. When problem solved itself but I wanted to continue to use it for anti-aging benefits, my doctor told me its not safe for prolonged use. I'm glad it's easier to get a prescription now. It makes my skin look as good as IPL procedures.
Glad to know I'm doing it almost right. Retinol plus Cetaphil moisturizer. I've definitely come a long way from my terrible teenage acne years but I still breakout because of stress and or not taking enough care to cleanse and moisturize

Overall, my skin has never been smoother or better.
@@aYTaccount I have dry eczema prone skin...so I was fully expecting to get the full brunt of the side effects. Surprisingly I didn't. This is what I do: 1) Wash face with Aveeno Calm & Restore Cleanser 2) Moisturize with CeraVe Moisturizing Cream 3) Apply Aquaphor around mouth, at crease of nostrils, and around eyes 3) Wait 3-5 minutes and then apply a tiny pea drop size of Tazarotene and spread evenly on face 4) Wait 3-5 minutes and then apply Eucerin Moisturizer :)
I started with mixing pea size with cerave moisturizer twice a week for few weeks, then just the tretinoin 0.05% prescribed by my dermatologist twice a week. I still use only alternate days. The peeling happens because you are getting a new skin from underneath. Also wear a sunscreen in the morning. Coz the skin that is being exposed after peeling is a new skin and sensitive.

Yesss! I've been using the Sunday Riley Retinol (haven't reached the end to hear your recommendations lol) but I have been telling my family and friends to get retinoids for months now. I also have lactic acid by the same line (have acne prone skin, large pores, etc etc.) And I also like the lactic acid it makes me skin so bright and glowy. None the less, already following on ig looking forward to hearing more on YT. Thank you and good luck on your channel!
I'm a Sunday Riley 'Luna' and A+ retinol user too and I love it. I love the Luna oil the best as it's gentle start and then you add the A+ as your skin gets used to it. I also recommend Good genes which is Glycolic acid in the morning (or Lactic Acid in the States I think). Another great retinol oil to try is Medik 8. They have different strengths so start low and build as your skin adjusts. I'm heading a few years towards 50 so since turned 40 have been obsessed with trying 'lux' skin care samples etc (I'm on a budget 😊). Most of the luxury skin care stuff is marketing and just BS talk. However, it's about the whole ritual self care routine then sometimes it's nice to have a particular treat. But don't expect miracles. Genes, what you eat, drinking alcohol, Sun and lifestyle are a massive part of how your skin looks as you age. Apologies for the waffle. Retinol has been the game changer for me as it has for many people. And yes, Sunday Riley is such a lovely brand ❤️

I just found your channel. Wow, was it a breath of fresh air. I just watched a video of a couple people (a scientist and dermatologist) making the argument of the cons (especially thinning of the skin) of using retina A. I have been a tretinoin user for at least 20 years. My skin looks better now than it did in my 40's. No freckling, no wrinkle lines and I am 66. I do use other ingredients but were long started after the tretinoin. I'm sure I am using products in the morning that are not necessary, but the skincare world makes you feel as though it is. If there is no proof the other products really help, I'd love to know if you have other videos to refer to. I use VC, Matrixyl 3000, COQ10, HA, a couple others, but not all at the same time and all in the morning. And of course, sunscreen every day! Thanks for easing my mind with this video. I would recommend Retinoid or tretinoin to everyone if tolerated. It has been the Big Gun for me.
Came from ali abdaal. I am also a MD in Brazil especializing in internal medicine at this moment and usually we only study about "skin diseases" but do not focus on preventive measures for the skin (besides sunprotection which is a hot topic in Brazil). I have been using a 0.1% retinol mixed 1:1 with Obagi Blender or hyaluronic acid for years, and my skin looks 30 years younger than the average person. There is no need for expensive, fancy products. Retinol, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and occasionally niacinamide are all I need. Additionally, using sunscreen daily is crucial to protect my skin and maintain its youthful appearance.
I’ve been using this for yrs, since my early 20s and I’m now 45. This is a miracle product. Your skin will peel and burn on your very use but a good moisturizer should help, like Neutrogena gel (it’s in a blue jar) and tatcha. I used to use once in every few days since it was burning my skin, which didn’t help much. But now over time my skin got use to it and works great.
Amazing, I’m currently doing a 5 day retinol “peel” watching this is helping push through the next day. After 2 days of only doing 3 pea size amounts im peeling as if I had a chemical peel. Can’t wait to see the results
I think you’re supposed to use one pea sized amount for your whole entire face ( I know it sounds impossible to spread all over but you can spread it everywhere) as to avoid using too much product which will lead to more irritation and sensitisation.
@@christarkt8439 yes that’s how you would use it normally if you’re using it long term but as a “peel” you do it for 3-5 days and do 3-10 pumps then let your skin heal. It’s a protocol done by ZO skin

I’ve started to use the exact same product about 2 weeks ago, going in with 2% when I finish this bottle and hopefully I’ll be ready for tretinoin when that bottle runs out. I’ll be nearing 26 by that time I think, which should be a great time to start tret since collagen production starts to decline from around age 25!
Unfortunately not all your international colleagues think it this way. In Italy they didn't prescribe Tretinoin or even high strength retinoid for anti-aging or pigmentation, but only for really bad cases of acne 😢
Sis, have a look at kinami7 retinoid serum. I use that and found this video from them. I don't use a moisturiser anymore, just the serum and vichy sunscreen. If you have a ' moisturising' sunscreen you don't need a moisturiser and then you have a basic routine for your skin and it's effective 👍
@@adventurouskashmir7341you know Internet exists longer than youtube, right? And dermatologists have been suggesting retinoids for over 40+ years now...
I'm using tret, which is a stronger version of retinoid. You can get this without a prescription in Catalonia, Spain but not in the other parts of Spain. I tried it for a first time 7-8 months ago, it was a disaster! I was peeling, feeling red, dry, like I had a allergy....all the bad things and I gave up eventually. Two months later I started it again, but this time I was prepared about the side effects and I started it with a clear schedule - the first month I applied it every third night, the second month - every other night, on the third month every night. I'm now in the second month and haven't experienced such bad side effects, it's bearable 😊 Still, I haven't seen any improvements of the skin, some days I feel like even my skin looks worse, but I'm patient enough to wait and see in a couple of months or even half a year before judging.
Thank you so much for this concise, very informative & often very funny video. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm definitely going back onto Retin-A once my cold clears. Shukran again.
Thank you! I've been using it 2x a week for 2 years. If I use it more than that, it becomes very irritating to my skin. I find 2x a week works well for me. ❤
I totally agree with him😭✋💯.. . I have been using Retinoids for the past few months especially because of my hormonal acne and I have PCOS too.. . And it has literally made my skin so clear.. . Going to continue using it for sure and for the anti ageing benefits too❤️✌️
Thanks for this! My skin is so sensitive I had to start my 0.05% Tretinoin 1x/wk for a month, then 2x/wk for the next month and so on, increasing 1 day a week per month until I could tolerate it daily and even still after a couple of years I still don't always do it every night or I get sensitized.
I heart dr Dray saying that if you got to a point where you use tretinoin for like a year then you can cut back to a couple of nights per week because tret will continue to work as it has memory or something like that
@@brucewayne7203 I do. I've tried it sandwiched between moisturizer layers, after a layer of moisturizer, before a layer of moisturizer, etc. I've started tolerating it a bit better just this month, but still only 2 or 3 times per week. Letting all my skin care fully dry down (at least half an hour) before applying the Tret, plus switching to a fatty, extra dry skin moisturizer before and after has really helped.
You mentioned that Retinols are weaker and tend to be found OTC. But even with the OTC offerings, there seems to still be a general word of warning to start off with a lower % solution and to use it less frequently at the beginning. With that said, what are your thoughts on products like The Ordinary which have a range of Retinol between 0.2% - 2%? Would you recommend them over the products you mentioned? Are there any particular ingredients that make the products you recommended more advantageous? Dr. Vanita Rattan, also on UA-cam, though not a Dermatologist, mentions that for darker skin it is better to use a much lower concentration between 0.2% and 0.5%. The reasoning being that 0.5%+ for darker skin can have adverse affects (pigmentation) compared to those with lighter skin. What are your thoughts on this? One other thing, I've also read that using Vitamin C alongside Retinol can nullify the effects of both of these given that they each work best at a different pH. How true is this? One of the products you recommended was the Rapid Wrinkle Repair Regenerating Cream with Hyaluronic Acid. When looking at the ingredients, it looks like a great all in one. It contains Sodium Hyaluronate (HA), Retinol ofc but also contains Ascorbic Acid (Pure Vitamin C). I'm guessing they've tested a formulation where both work well together despite the above point. Thoughts on this?
Hey! Quick fire responses : - yes, always start low and go slow with both retinol and retinoid until your skin gets used to it - the ordinary products are great options - not sure who Dr. Rattan is but I disagree with this conclusion if it’s what she says. - correct, have to be careful to stabilise retinoids used alongside other acidic products as pH can inactivate the ingredient. Also correct that reputable brands that do combinations of these have stability tested them.
@@usamasyed Appreciate this. I'll revisit her conclusion to be sure. Do you have any bullet point thoughts on Vitamin C serums? I'm reading that it tends to be one of the latter things that Dermatologists recommend in the line of skincare to use. I've also read that Ascorbic acid is difficult to penetrate the skin and its effects are still yet to be proven. Though the Ascorbic Acid has some backing, it's still not the easiest ingredient to benefit from due to its instability. I've seen some videos where Dermas recommend putting it in the fridge to avoid its exposure to sunlight or air that can cause oxidation and render the serum useless shortly afterward. I've heard looking for a product with 10-20% concentration and Ferulic acid are advised.

i have four big questions: 1) can this backfire later because your skin is exhausted? 2) wasnt there an issue with retinols and the way your skin can protect against sun? cause i wonder if you can really apply that much sunscreen that it cancels out the effect - can you still lets say spend hours on end outside regularly, and your skin will be able to deal with it? 3) if someone has dry skin usually, would that not mean that its a problem for them to use retinols alltogether, like are there lots of people that cant really use these and if so, are there alternatives? and 4) if pregnant women cant use the pill-version of this cause it affects their baby that much, isn't this also dangerous for people to use in some way? i mean if sth has such effects isn't it somewhat affecting the person's body as well because it must be pretty strong, for example lets say, idk maybe it could cause liver problems after a few years cause the liver deals with it?
I am not sure about all of them, but this the information I have collected watching dermatologists talking about retinoids: Increased sun sensitivity is a myth. For dry skin start even slower and use another method: moisture, retinoid and moisture again. For pregnant women, (this is my own knowledge, so don't trust it) some actives are well tolerated even after a significant period of time, as our body can deal with accumulation easily, but they can cause malformations on a fetus, which has more to do with fetal development stages and what can ihibit them than accumulation itself. Why would skin become "exhausted"? I don't understand the term in this context... if you exercise regularly you will become adapted and healthier, not exhasuted because your muscles have a finite number of contractions they can make in their lifespan. If anything, cell turnover can revert time and bring your skin back to a sturcture similar to your skin in your 20s. It functions better overall
I've been using tret for 8 months, but only once a week because I've had purging the whole time. And then I use a gentle one like Inkeylist twice a week. I've tried moving to twice a week with tret but my skin always purges. Basically my skin has been worse than ever the entire time. I haven't gotten the amazing results that everyone talks about. I'm now using a sandwich method with moisturizer and the tret and I really hope that starts working. I'm ready to get the results :(
Hii:) I think you should start using tret every 3 nights. I was using it once a weet for two months but my purging was so bad. Then I red somewhere that if you wait more than 3 nigths after every application, the process actually starts over so our face never gets used to it. after that I start to apply tret every 3 nigths, my skin was sensitive and flaky for a month. But after that it starts to get better, oh and I was using the La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume for moisturize my face in the morning, and I also use it at nigths that I dont apply tret. after a month, I start to appyl it 5 times a week and now i am using tret almost every night ! its been 6 months since, and there is no flakyness anymore. ı still have acne scars but my face is smoother than ever :) so the moral of the story, I think you should try the Cicaplast Baume and start to apply your tret more frequently. Note: I used an oil clenser to remove the flakes in the morning anf at nigth aswell 😊

The only issue with using adapolene gel is that there aren’t enough studies showing that it truly helps collagen production like retinol and treintoin. Studies do show it’s amazing for acne and reducing hyperpigmentation though. The jury is still out if it helps wrinkles. Definitely stick with retinol or Tretinoin.
There is many studies that show that its just not approved for that yet, its a stronger version of all retinoids under tretinoin, its def better then retinols
@@nasaupdates790 as of now, the studies show that adapolene does help fade and prevent further hyperpigmentation alongside use of sunscreen and sun avoidance but no evidence yet to show that boosts collagen production for anti-aging.
I've been using Tretinoin 0.025% for several months now. I mix it with Cerave Moisturising Lotion and use it at night, every other day. As soon as I try and increase the frequency to every day, I get really red and irritated skin which takes days to recover. I don't use any other products except for a gentle cleanser and sunscreen, which I've had no problems with. I think I'll try the differin gel and see how I go.
I would appreciate a link to the study shown toward the end of the video comparing a Control group with results from use of Retinol vs Retinoic Acid. Thanks
It seems like for most people the goal of starting retinoids and adjusting is to eventually be able to use a concentrated tretinoin every day, is that really necessary? Is there a big downside to continuing to use retinol creams like the neutrogena, or using tretinoin but not using it every day? Basically, what’s the bare minimum for anti-ageing benefits? Doctorly said even once a week is sufficient for anti-ageing, and for acne you need to use it more frequently, but they’re the only person I've ever heard say that. I have dry to normal sensitive skin and atopic eczema on my hands, so retinoids scare me a bit.
I have very dry skin, and initially it was pretty gnarly. I could peel huge layers off! But I kept with it, and kept aptly moisturising, and it settled. Imo for max benefits and minimum side effects, 2-3 times a week as maintenance should be plenty. You can always give it a shot and see how you go. But I wouldn't let the initial peeling deter you. I looked like I had a horrible sunburn for weeks, but persisted, and it really paid off!
Will it be available in the uk at all? Thanks
I ended up looking red using tretinoin 0.25 even though I tried all the techniques to calm it so I stop using it
Thanks. And can someone tell me if I can apply it every night after the first week of alternate days?
Can we use retinol cream when we are not using retinoid for example 3 alternate nights retinoid and rest of nights retinol in a week?
Quite interesting, I was using retinoids in pills for quite a long time (prescribed) and they (obviously) were working in a different way. They were kinda sucking wet/fat out of my skin/pores therefore removing oiliness of skin.
I am curious why retinols should work in a different way? I though they’re the same thing, but gentler.
@@abd12459 try first using a gentle cleanser and then let your skin dry for more than 20mins cuz before this duration ,applying tretinoin can irritat your skin
Apply tretinoin, you need just a bit
And then sleeps or do whatever you want and then wash your face gently and let you face dry for 20mins and then apply your moisture cuz before this duration it's gonna affect the tretinoin efficiency.
Why? What's causes this interference?
Moist skin absorbs more of the product , increasing the side effects

I started using Tretinoin a couple of months back because none of the more expensive skin care seem to work as described on the packaging. I did go through the ugly peeling phase, with extreme dryness on my skin (my natural skin type: Oily acne prone). I had watched Dr Dray mention the timeline for Retinoic Acids to work Or start showing desirable results (roughly 6weeks plus minus depending on usage). And yes after 6 weeks, my skin stopped peeling and it became really radiant and smooth. My previously 'started to form" fine lines had disappeared (im 26). Thank you..
My thoughts exactly when i first heard of how retinoid works a year ago, i hope somebody able to answer this. 🤞

Hi
The first dermatologist that put me on Tretinoin had it high and to often. I stopped using it fairly quickly. Then switched to another highly recommended Dermatologist near me who listened to why I did not want it and took the time to explain like you do in your video. This dermatologist started me on a lower dosage only twice a week and slowly brought the amount per week up. I just turned 60 y/o this year and easily pass for my early 40's. I personally didn't notice any difference until one day around 6 months I suddenly realized I had great facial skin. I do my face, neck, entire chest, and both hands.
Does it even last? I want to go for tretinoin but should I be concerned I'm just 20
I’ve been using adapalene for 2.25 years and my skin has aged backwards. Tonight I start tretinoin an I’m SO excited 😆 I’m 37 and often get mistaken for being in my early 20’s ❤
It’s been about a month: Do you prefer the treat to the adapalene?
I started slowly with Tretinoin and managed to pretty much avoid all of the associated side effects.
Low, slow and lots of hydration and soothing
Percentage??
I have been using prescription Tretinoin .05% for at least a decade now. I never experienced excessive reddness or irritation with the product. What works for me is, in the morning, I wash my face with regular soap and rub off the peeling skin. Then I just use Lubriderm and Walgreen's zinc 50 spf sunscreen (Cheap, don't need fancy ones). My skin is totally flawless. I had horrible acne in my teens and was taking Tetracycline and Keflex to keep it clear. Now even strangers will compliment me on my skin...it's amazing.

I used to use once in every few days since it was burning my skin, which didn’t help much. But now over time my skin got use to it and works great.
I use it but my eyes get so dry and wrinkly despite moisturizering and i also never use it near eyes.Any remedy ?😢
Which retinoid cream did you use in india

I've been using Retinol 0.2% in squalane by the ordinary since 7 years ago, i am 36 now, people always thought that i am 23. Never tried trenitoin yet, but I planned to do it next month once I used up my ordinary retinol. I always get compliments about my skin.
Do you use retinol after any serum or directly after cleansing your face ?

Unfortunately not all your international colleagues think it this way. In Italy they didn't prescribe Tretinoin or even high strength retinoid for anti-aging or pigmentation, but only for really bad cases of acne 😢
Hallelujah! Your preaching is working. Just got adapalene gel and applied it following your guideline!
I'd love to see a video on recommended moisturizers for different skin types and whether gels/creams can be used interchangeably!
Great idea!

I use this serum and I agree👍
Highly recommend it.
I use tretinoin since I was 30 (i'm 46 now) and for my age my skin looks great! even the dermatologists say that.
Who told you to use because there were no youtube at that time
@@adventurouskashmir7341you know Internet exists longer than youtube, right? And dermatologists have been suggesting retinoids for over 40+ years now...
@@adventurouskashmir7341 My dermatologist prescribed it for me in 1977.
I use 0.05% bare, without any moisturer, i haven't been able to see any changes or irritation, no nothing , it's been a month.
This was so fun to watch! Plus so informative, looking forward to more videos!

I totally agree with him😭✋💯.. . I have been using Retinoids for the past few months especially because of my hormonal acne and I have PCOS too.. . And it has literally made my skin so clear.. . Going to continue using it for sure and for the anti ageing benefits too❤️✌️

please use sun protection because your skin is super sensitieve for the sun now
Can we use it while undergoing laser hair removal sessions? I do it due to PCOS hirsutism
Does it remove acne scars?
Thanks for this! My skin is so sensitive I had to start my 0.05% Tretinoin 1x/wk for a month, then 2x/wk for the next month and so on, increasing 1 day a week per month until I could tolerate it daily and even still after a couple of years I still don't always do it every night or I get sensitized.
I heart dr Dray saying that if you got to a point where you use tretinoin for like a year then you can cut back to a couple of nights per week because tret will continue to work as it has memory or something like that
Do you use moisturizer alongside?
@@emabella1000 yeah I heard that that too and was relieved because that's about how often I end up getting to use it due to my sensitivity.
@AK tried that, didn't work either. Good tip though.
I've been using it for four years now. And I tell you it is magic.
Wow you really changed my perspective on retinoids 😱 now I need to add a product to my wishlist 😂 thanks for this very useful and helpful video 👏🏾
My pleasure, Deborah!
Hey! Quick fire responses :
- yes, always start low and go slow with both retinol and retinoid until your skin gets used to it
- the ordinary products are great options
- not sure who Dr. Rattan is but I disagree with this conclusion if it’s what she says.
- correct, have to be careful to stabilise retinoids used alongside other acidic products as pH can inactivate the ingredient. Also correct that reputable brands that do combinations of these have stability tested them.
@@usamasyed
Appreciate this.
You’re right! It affects people of color differently . I am an indian . My skin tone is between light to wheatish I’ll say nd i do notice that if i use retinol for longer periods it kinda makes my skin darker but it goes away as soon as i stop for a week or so nd its kinda weird as most people say ur brightens the skin ! i love retinol tho as it makes my skin plumper gets rid of bumps nd stuff

I found you through Ali abdaal ❤
Hallelujah! Adding this to my routine now.
i have four big questions:
1) can this backfire later because your skin is exhausted?
Correct questions. Why did none of the dermatologists answer this
I am not sure about all of them, but this the information I have collected watching dermatologists talking about retinoids:
Increased sun sensitivity is a myth.
I have heard that it increases the chance of getting certain types of cancer.
But after that it starts to get better, oh and I was using the La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume for moisturize my face in the morning, and I also use it at nigths that I dont apply tret. after a month, I start to appyl it 5 times a week and now i am using tret almost every night ! its been 6 months since, and there is no flakyness anymore. ı still have acne scars but my face is smoother than ever :)
so the moral of the story, I think you should try the Cicaplast Baume and start to apply your tret more frequently.
Note: I used an oil clenser to remove the flakes in the morning anf at nigth aswell 😊

I’ve been using Tretinoin 1% gel every day for 10 years plus 😘

In the beginning but not now I even put it around my eyes without getting any reaction
I got eye issues from Retinoid products and I now have sicca syndrome which stems from multiple factors, but everytime I use Retinoid they become increasingly dry and burn and hurt. It can have that effect on your eyes also according to my doctors and I've actually met people who experienced that from it (not even talking about pills, just the serum or creams), it's just not talked about enough!

i've heard this also....i think you just need to keep it away from your eyes....
As someone with a beard, what's the best way to look after the skin under the beard? Is a different routine required for the skin under a beard?
Shave it. I started using it after I shaved my beard and let it grow after one year and seeing the benefits of the retinoid acid prescription
Can u please explain does adaplene have same effevts like retinol as i just started it two days ago please help
