I consider the Dune Encyclopedia canon, as Frank Herbert was consulted and gave his blessing to it. Jehanne Butler started the Butlerian Jihad, as she was pregnant, and her fetus was aborted without her permission by a robot led hospital administration in Pylos, the capitol of Xania. She was a trained Bene Gesserit, btw. I do not give any consideration to the Brian Herbert "prequals."
Exactly, the way Frank Herbert described the Butlerian Jihad, it wasn't quite a Terminator-esque scenario, but rather a rebellion against the masters of AI since there was an over-reliance on it
Well the encyclopedia does give contradictory info compared to the sourc material... but so does the source material of the Dune Saga, itself, with its minute but present discrepancies. But the Encyclopedia is infinitely more canon than the Brian Herbert and KJA books
Consider this terra means earth. Terrans would be the same as earthlings. Being called Old earth would make me think its the old/original. And apparently there is a Terra Nova or new earth.
Another wild theory outside of Dune is that the BG in "before guild" could point out in our history as humans that we had an advanced race of sentient beings come to our planet to seek isolation, protection, fleeing, or even finding a new planet to call home, with them leaving their own planet. Because as humans we didn't know what technology was until we started coming up with the ideas and then devolping it. Then we had the knowledge of what tech actually was. Our ancient ancestors on the otherhand didn't; So they had to describe these advanced beings with advanced technology in the most knowledgeable way they could and that was to refer to their "crafts" as Birds/Chariots/Fortesses/Heaven and would refer to these beings as "gods" it's easy to dispute or debate this theory but it would make sense considering UAP's/UFO's exist in our time and on our planet. They have been here longer than us "humans" have, because we were created in their image.
So this is something people get kind of confused on when looking at the encyclopedia. The encyclopedia isn’t an omniscient view into the history of humanity in Dune, it’s more of a in universe writing about it. They think that there was always some great human empire that existed in old earth, so in their view, there must’ve been a great imperial seat that moved from place to place, when in reality they’re following very specific real world events and tying them all together as one continuous line of imperial history. It explains why historical recording begins at the rise of the Roman Empire.
straight up not a lot of dune fan's don't really like the prequels book's all that much for so many reasons like not following the notes that frank Herbert's had for a final book before he died and retconning some stuff the mainline book's and also speaking of which this honestly feels the disney sequel trilogy of star wars in a couple of ways by throwing away George idea's for his episode 7-9 but despite all of that my favorite part's of the dune prequels is the expanding more nature to the butlerian jihad because it explains why there isn't anyone thinking machines in the current timeline of dune and also the whereabouts of earth in dune is truly up in the air but all in all great video keep up with the good work of the dune lore man dune fan's are truly eating good right now but quick question can you do a video about the dune encyclopedia if you have the time
The fear of technology could be because of how the AI machines worked. Since it is not detailed enough we don't know if the thinking machines could take over any technology remotely. Imagine a calculator that would only give the answers that whatever AI was controlling it wanted you to get. Or humans at least believed they had this power. When humans, who were generations of slaves, no longer knew how the technology worked or how it was created it might as well all be blasphemous. It's all of the Thinking Machines either in body or mind. Space is huge there is no telling if there is a ship of AI lying dormant between stars waiting for the day it picks up signals of sufficient technology to infect.
Brian just wasn't Frank. 'Ominous Prime'?? You kidding me with that on-the-nose, ripoff joke name? Transformers/Optimus Prime had already been out for over two decades by then.
er not actually a transformers ripoff name as it is ominous of things to come/ominous being a fictional corp like omnicorp and is the primary unit less a name and more a designation
At 3:40 moaning about Reading the Canterbury Tales... When my Dad was in High School in West Texas in the 60s he had to actually have so many Lines MEMORIZED to Graduate. Talk about Useless Torture?
I'm going to note that while your video was very detailed and well planned out, I'm not sure who to blame you, or UA-cam, for ads every 60 seconds in your video. I understand if you're vying for further monetization as a content creator, but it is a constant interruption and unfortunately killed the attention span or interest of your video. I stopped at the 4 minute mark, 3 ads every 60 seconds. I did not watch further, I do not have Premium. I'm unsure if you can even fix this or address it in a timely manner, but I'm letting you know that this level of ads is paralyzing to the user experience. Apologies, great video. Find balance in the ads. Best of luck.
I don’t think you read the books. Your timelines are mixed up. It’s a lot to read. 17 Brian Herbert books and 6 Frank Herbert books. The Fremen are former slaves called the Zensunni that escaped Poritrin many thousands of years ago. It is they who develop the Fremen culture on Dune.
Did You know it's 5996? 1988-2028 is the 150th Generation (150x40)... That's just the Lineage of Adam. There's another 2x 6000 year epochs before Ours (at least). Am I saying this one ends in 4 years? No. That's Silly. But we can Dream.
this was good, as for your pronunciation issues, lol, just read a dictionary and you will learn to say all words right and those a-holes(me included normally) will leave you be. ;) looking forward to more.

How did i just discovered this channel!? I'm already a huge fan from ABD since 2018 and this just... Perfect!
The T in apostle is silent. The video is appreciated. Learning words through reading us very tricky, especially in English.
At 2 minutes in (great Video btw), it's fun to imagine DUNE beginning from the Ashes of the Terminator franchise. (Paradox?)

Maybe in Dune universe Alexander The Great doesn't die young and conquers entire Earth
There is a fantastic book that covers that, leaving this comment to remember and come back with title

Where in the World did you learn to pronounce Chaucer like that!?
Sounded like "ciao, sir" lol

Let's go ballllls deeep.🎉
Kevin J Anderson wrote a few Star Wars novels if I’m not mistaken.

my favorite part's

I think it's from a old MMO Called RF online or Rising Force online
Brian Herbert's fan fiction is not Canon.
In the first 5 minutes you misspelled "historical" and called 1308 thirteen thousand eight. Just sayin'

The background noise made the video unwatchable.

Kind of frightening to think no one by the time of Dune even knows where Earth is anymore

Brian Herbert's lore sounds like some scientology bullshit.
So Dune is a simpler version of 40k.
dune is in so many ways more complicated, not to mention 40k plagiarized dune multiple times
