I am by no means an expert in this universe, but I thought the Engineers created the black goo which modified all life in order to cleanse planets of that life which they viewed as failed attempts at creation. Much like earth was deemed a failure, but it was the Human creation, David, that bred the Xenomorph as we know it from the Alien franchise. So while I have no issue with morph's being on random planets, creatures like the "CAT" that was on one of the planets make sense random planet + Engineers = morphed creatures. What does not make any sense at all is random planet being visited for the first time by Weyland with no mention of a visit from David having Xenomorphs because unless you canonize AVP Weyland corps'. lust for a Xenomorph and wherever David go are the only way Xenomorphs have for interplanetary travel.
