      Yeah man, when I first heard a Boss Hoss it was scary! The sound of an American push rod V8 is one of the most menacing, and beautiful sounds in the history of engines. The deep rumble of a muscle car coming from a Boss Hoss is just terrifying.

    The difference between the old Boss Hoss and new Boss Hoss bikes is astonishing.
    I have seen a few of the old ones and they all looked very large and hard to handle.
    The new one you drove looked like a real motorcycle and a great evolution of the brand.
    I am glad Boss Hoss still makes their bike because what you said is true.
    In the horsepower heap,there is Boss Hoss and then there is everyone else.
    And Boss Hoss is American made.
    May they always shake the ground in America.

I used to have a black and white picture of him back in the late 50s maybe early 60s with a 283 Chevy out of a old junk car or some kind there was no pain already it was just all rusty welded up steel laying around the farm and the engine was all dirty and greasy and Rusty looking .... Gas tank look like it came off of rototiller... And I'm not sure if it was the same guy who later on was going to drag races with a 327 Corvette engine and a motorcycle frame with fuel injection and it ended up down the woods somewhere when they found him knocked out and9 the motorcycle still running on the side sucking leaves into the fuel injection stacks.. as far as I know they still drag race V8 motorcycles in American Motorcycle racing association

      @@Misterfreezeable the engine is mounted longitudinally. So when it revs suddenly, the heavy parts inside like the crankshaft etc will move very fast. Now because of inertia, they'll want to stay where they are as much as they can, and so, will instead try to spin the whole bike the opposite direction.
      An example of something similar would be...when you take a hand drill in your hand and hold it loosely, then press the trigger, the whole drill will yank the opposite direction of its spinning tip assembly.

    Years ago a friend (he's like my second dad) had a Yamaha XS1100 bored out to 1324cc (I’m pretty sure that's right) and turbo charged that put out 300 HP. I drove it once and was eager to get back on my "slow" Nighthawk S 700. It was like being on the bridge of the Enterprise when Kirk or Picard gave the order for warp speed. Running about 75 in top gear I gently rolled the throttle open and in less than 3 seconds I'm going 150 easy. So, if that's what 300 HP on a motorcycle is like, I can't imagine 600HP.

    • @Ritalie
      @Ritalie 11 місяців тому

      Wow, I had no idea an XS1100 had that much durability to handle 300 horsepower!? That's really amazing. I always figured those engines were not particularly good, since the older Yamaha bikes always seemed to have the worst fit and finish to the clutch, and overall design of the bike, compared with the other big 3. But the Yamaha motors were always good, being Japanese.

    • @renaissanceman7145
      @renaissanceman7145 11 місяців тому

      @@Ritalie That particular XS1100 likely had extensive mods beyond the turbo. As I said in my OP it was bored to a larger displacement, I can only assume there was more done. The front was raked (pretty sure that's the right word) out for better high speed stability. That friend's name is Bill, he always had very nice collector grade vehicles. He also had a Sturgis and a '73 Sportster he let me drive. The Sportster was especially "fun" as it had no throttle return spring.
      Bill has 4 sons. The oldest, Terry, raced Ducatis but at some point bought a XS1100 with a turbo. I'm pretty sure it was bone stock with the turbo added. The one time I road on it with him we were going so fast the wind blast was pulling me off the bike. When he let off the throttle my interlocked grip around him was down to my finger tips. I honestly thought I was going to come off that bike. I have no idea the speed we reached. I told that story to Bill who replied with 8 words I would hear many more times regarding Terry's XS1100 turbo, "Where are you going to ride a rocket?" Hearing him say that as many times as I did, I heard it a LOT, made it that much funnier when he showed me his XS1100 turbo that was faster than Terry's. And yes, the first words out of my mouth were, "Bill, where are you going to ride a rocket?" To which he could only laugh with a knowing look on his face. He is quite the character.

      You know the coolest thing about the Boss Hoss? It's that you can run it at 1300 rpms and go 80mph. Realistically the engine has enough power to do a high idle at highway speeds. Just imagine how long the engine would last, almost zero engine wear. I'd have them build mine with the tallest gears you can possibly get, so the engine is just creeping along at 80mph.

      Nah it won't crush it. U just can't put the power down with the tire thats on it. Don't kid yourselves the big block bikes boss hoss makes are unreal. Ive ridden one. They are scary, can spin tire at 80mph Buddys father also has one with a 450hp sbc 383 that one i custom painted years ago and rode several times. It was a the the world of wheels in Chicago last year. And I've owned a zx14 and many other liter bikes mostly hondas, turbo vrod, ebr 1190sx. Lots of powerful bikes, boss hoss is a powerful torquey motor just pushing itself along. Traction is the only issue. That 600hp big block is fast in a 3500lb car let alone a 1300lb bike. Its it a novelty bike yes, but they do handle and stop amazingly well for its size. If u get a chance to ride one you won't forget it. Its actually quite an engineering marvel to make a 1300lbs V8 comfortably rideable.

    I don't know if I should make this constructive criticism or just a helpful tip, but if you can change the shutter speed of the cameras you use, you can completely eliminate screen/LED flicker, because if you "match the frames", the camera will see everything on the screen at once, and depending on the screen, it could be 1/24 of a sec for car lights or dashboards (24hz), it can be 30hz, or 60hz. if you use gopros, GoPro has ProTune which allows you to change the ISO, exposure time, and shutter speed. hope this helps!

    My NESCO transmission failed at 8000 miles on my 502. It was a 2002 bike. My bike weighed 1500 pounds and although it was a conversation piece it was by no means a precision built bike. It took Monte Warne (company owner in Dyersburg, Tn) a few years to get the old clutch type unit (I rode one in Arlington, Tx at Boss Hoss of Texas in 1999) replaced with the NESCO unit and then I purchased a 2000 model with a 350 (ZZ4 crate 350) engine. The NESCO unit was sort of similar to a GM Powerglide transmission with first range by pressing the shifter down and second range by lifting the foot lever up. The reverse feature used an electric solenode in the transmission and a switch to engage it. That feature lasted maybe a year before it failed on the 350 version. The other failure occurred at 80 mph in McKinney, Texas on the 502. The transmission went to pieces. I pulled the transmission out of the bike. It was designed with a bell housing with torque converter going into the transmission oil pump and the secondary shaft going to a beveled gear that drove a ring gear (like a differntial) and your 90 degree output began there. It had a shaft inside another shaft going through a planetetary gear set (the part that failed) into the clutch plates and the inside shaft went through the outside shaft to the sprocket on the left side of the bike. Pretty simple design and apparently Monte laid out a chunk of money to get that design from NESCO. A Gates Belt drove the rear wheel. Here's the real kick in the butt. NESCO wanted $5000 for a new unit. That ended my affair with Boss Hoss. I will give Boss Hoss credit for design of all their products (trikes, Boss Fly, etc...). It is all American to pull this off (V8 in a bike). Another company did it too but won't mention their name. I'm a gearhead too. Pilot, classic car restorer, engineer, and bike rider). Since the Boss Hoss days (2000-2005) I rarely see a Boss Hoss. Maybe 3 times in the past 18 years. I wish Boss Hoss the best and I assume they have improved a great deal. However, $50,000 for a Big Block can get you a lot of bike and a precision technology bike. There are many out there. I have a new Triump Rocket 3 GT now and love it. It is ride by wire. And it accelerates much faster than either Boss Hoss I owned with a lower center of gravity. Spend your money as you wish. But don't expect to weave around in Custer State Park on a Big Block bike because all you do is try to keep it upright and turning.
