Create a Shared Shopping List on Your iPhone

- If you just had a shared shopping list that everyone in the family could add things to, life would be a bit easier, wouldn't it?
Well, you can do it right from your iPhone through the built-in "Reminders" app! First, be sure that your iCloud settings for Reminders are turned on, then create a new list and share it with whoever you like. As long as they are also on an iPhone, they'll be able to add things to the list as well. And you can even use Siri to add things to the list, so that makes it even easier to use while you're on the go.
If you enjoy tips like this, you'll love our newest premium class called, "Master Your iPhone or iPad." It's being released as a special download-only class on our website at techtalkamerica.com/premium-cl.... It's over 2 hours of teaching and through it, you'll learn everything you need to know to be totally comfortable using your new mobile device.

Wonderful tip. Also, Siri works beautifully for me in adding items. Thank you for sharing this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This works great! Was looking for a simple list sharing app to replace my family's use of Wunderlist. Fits the bill nicely compared to all the grocery shopping lists that try to force me to take pictures of my recipes...
thank you! God bless
I learn something new everyday!! I had no idea you can make a shopping check list on an iPhone 😂. Thanks for sharing
Thank you!😃
Thankyou very helpful..
Hi David, just a little friendly request, can you please also mention the conditions required for using a certain feature? Because for something like Handoff and stuff you could possibly need to connect to the same network, turn on bluetooth and all kinds of stuff that new users may not be aware of.
I don't have a sharing option in the reminders app on my iphone.
Great vídeo, love the background! Cheers!
Great!
loved the class, especially the bloopers at the end
Thanks! They were fun to add in. Since David and I both make a lot of mistakes, they will likely be seen more often. :)
+Mark Collier nice, I like watching the bloopers of any show or UA-cam video
Helpful!
About to go the grocery store now you just remind me to get somethin that i need it so thanks to you I didn't forgot the ginger 😬👌👍
That's awesome!
When I hit the Home button; before I slide to open and use the apps.
Ok my reminders app looks nothing like yours, I don't see that I can creat lists. Could I be in an old version of it?
Anyone have any idea why it would just say 'pending.' the other person never gets an invitation, and i don't receive their invitations. We both have reminders for icloud on??
Very useful :)
I couldn’t find it help me plz
Is there any way to get push notification on my devices (especially on my iphone and Apple watch) everytime someone who shares my shopping list adds, modifies or deletes something in that list? For example - I want to be notified when my wife adds milk to our shared list in Reminders so that I don't have to check the app manually all the time, just to know whether I need to buy something on my way home. Anyone? Thanks!
this is a great asset, I have done what you described, but I now have 4 shoppings lists, what have i done wrong.
I can't say since I didn't see it happen, but I would delete the extra ones and see if everything else seems normal.
I did but they all keep coming back, when I do a siri its ask me to choose from a lists. once I have set one up does the person I am sharing with need to do any thing, Also every time I switch on my phone it keeps notifying me that the contact has shared this.
Great video
Thanks! It was fun to make. :)
It's the same type of appearance of a notification of a new text you have received while the phone is on standby.
You're a funny guy!
I can’t do this in 2019 with the reminders app. Are u talking about the stock reminders app on iOS?????
With the latest update they have made the process less user friendly, hence my looking at UA-cam videos for an alternative.
great video! for android devices, I personally use Google Keep and also share it with someone else - works beautifully and it's free if you have a gmail account as it's part of the google solution apps
I tried Google Keep when it first came out. I suspect it's grown quite a bit since then. What are your favorite parts about it? I might need to look at it again and make a video about it.
Yeah, I've been using it since it came out and indeed Google has added more functionality and other settings to GKeep. You can add ideas, record voice notes, add pics, reminders, share it with others, organize the notes into different categories, etc. Look at it again, quite interesting and of course it also works on the iOs platform...
+andreslh Thanks for sharing that. I definitely will.
Wunderlist is another alternative that works very well
Yep! We talked about that below in some other comments. I don't think you can use Siri to add things to your list. Have you been able to do that?
Mark Collier no it doesn't work with Siri unfortunately. But really simple and easy to collaborate with
Just use the app "Bring". This is the best shopping app there is. And it does not rely on only having an iPhone. And it is specifically designed for shopping. And it is swiss quality
Thanks! I'll check that out. Do they have a app for the Mac as well and and does Siri work with it? Those two things are what makes Reminders so slick for Mac and iPhone owners.

When i tap the edit button all I have it color. My phone does not show sharing. Did I miss something? Love your videos!
I had the same issue originally. That's because you and I didn't have "reminders" turned on in our iCloud settings. Once you turn that on, the other option will appear. I put a note in the video mentioning that at 0:31, but you might have missed it. That should get you going.
Sheena Woods - :
OMG NEVER mind found it
Can you do that with a Samsung as well? Or something similar?
We aren't too familiar with Android phones, so I am not sure. The video is about the Reminders app on the iPhone, but you can share lists with apps like Evernote and Wunderlist. You could also use a shared Google doc. But none of these options work as seamlessly as Reminders with Siri, location-based reminders, etc.
If you find something that works well for you, be sure to let me know over on our Facebook page. Thanks so much!
Thank you for taking time to reply! I I find a 'work-around' I'll share it
Any reason why my reminders app doesn't allow sharing? Only Color options appear, nothing for sharing.
Yes. Check out the note at the beginning of the video where I mentioned to turn on iCloud for Reminders. Once you do, that option will show up.
+Mark Collier Thank you! I totally missed that part! It works now. 😊
I did this. Now the shared folder remains "active" every time I wake-up the iPhone. Is there a way to fix that?
What do you mean by "active?" If you mean open, you can just close it. Let me know what you mean and I'll see if I can help.
That's very strange. Didn't know that was possible. I would reboot your phone to see if that changes.
and that's Siri for you. adding Tiramisu instead of tissue!!
did David say "Add tissues to my shopping list" and Siri understood it as "Add tiramisu to my shopping list"?
(Sort of. We actually faked that one as a joke to show how often Siri misunderstands us. Probably the funniest part you didn't see was me trying to get Siri to actually understand me saying tiramisu on purpose. It took about 15 tries and David was crying laughing when he saw the video of my attempts...)
may be you should post that video as well for all of us to share a good laugh :) :D:D
+Angeline Flora Haha! I don't know if it would be as funny to everyone else, but I'll see if I still have it. :)
great thanks Mark Collier :).
How to get in touch with you for queries that I have regarding few tech products like the evernote and 1password?
Sadly you stopped short of how the "shared person" adds items to the shopping list. We've been trying for 20 mins (AFTER ADDING THE PERSON AND THAT PERSON ACCEPTED). No bueno video
37 seconds into the video before I learn anything useful - PLEASE, UA-cam Video makers, STOP with the cutesy logos and intros - I'm in a hurry and screening a LOT of videos. (I do type fast, so I can make comments)
Wait, what? I thought David was married😕.
he is :D
no he isn't.
+David A. Cox lol, thanks for clarifying. And thanks for providing such an amazing service. I know your classes are designed for baby boomers. But as a 29 year old who has fallen behind on current technology, I am so glad I found your courses.
Fake wife! lol!
fake wife, real husband! lol
Annoying. very annoying.
