One thing I like about this is how you can see the different approaches they are both taking to Marilyn. Karen is clearly going for girl next door with dreams of stardom and Ivy is going for glamorous go-getter who won’t let anything get in her way. They are both valid takes and it’s just interesting seeing it reflected in their outfits and acting.
I always wanted them to be both cast in the musical, with them doing a double-lead role of Karen playing the part of the old Norma Jean, and Ivy as the new Marilyn

this sequence made me fall in love with the show all the more. at the end when they all start gathering in the room I found myself leaping for joy. i was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited for it. too bad it only ran for 2 seasons. LOVE this show!

Both are FANTASTIC !! each has her style
I remember the excitement at the promise of this show embodied in this first episode and this wonderful, incredible song. Sadly neither the show nor the following songs managed to live up to the promise. But this song endures and I hope one day its authors will find a fitting vehicle for it.

Remember when the first season premiered and being so excited to see and hear Katharine again, but being completely eclipsed by Megan's voice.

I always thought that Megan was MM and Christine was Norma Jean.
The could have pulled a 1996 Norma Jean and Marilyn and cast them both. I would’ve loved it. I always loved that movie.

the fundamental problem this show had was that Megan Hilty is just SO much better of an actress and singer than Katharine McPhee, but we were supposed to believe they were equals.

Yeah, if the roles were switched and Katherine was the one with experience and Megan had to break in then it woulda made more sense. It would have been very obvious why they wanted Megan and felt more appropriately unfair if they didn't pick her

This was around the time when The Black Swan was all the rage and made waves. Then, I think other movies adapted the concept such as Frozen. I think this show tried to adapt that as well and it had a lot of promise. It's a shame and very unfortunate that this one did not take off due to poor decision making.
