I love the characterization of Christian’s character throughout the song. He starts off literally being guided where to stand and sit by the other dancers, and not really putting effort into the choreo (“The buck stops with me” line). He’s pretty monotone with the lines because he’s just a stand in, why waste the effort? At one point, you can just barely catch him looking off the side at one of the extras miming the rumba hands, like she’s helping to encourage him to let himself get into it. And by the end, he does. He’s still being guided by the other dancers on when to move and where to go, but he’s more in character, more emotive, and he’s having fun with it, like snapping Leslie Odom Jr’s but with a towel.
It’s actually the other way around, that’s the character of the character he’s standing in for, a Hollywood exec who’s so in control of everything that he does that he oozes the kind of cocky confidence that only comes from a place of narcissism proven right, the yes men surrounding him don’t even matter to him because he KNOWS they’re gonna say yes. He’s portrayed as putting in no effort in the choreo because he’s the biggest baddie in the sauna and he knows it, he’s not being monotone, that’s a song utilizing the fast-talk way Trans-Atlantic sounded in movies of Monroe’s era!
This is my favorite scene from all of Smash. I wish that show had gotten more recognition. I think it was one of the best shows on tv in the last 15 years imo

That said, at this point in the show, if Vivienne actually managed to get Lady Gaga herself to voice Lilith as her long-time dream casting I wouldn’t even be shocked. She’s gotten Kesha and Norman Reedus before after all, and that was before Amazon money… I think she’ll be voiced by another broadway vet, though.
I think Christians performance of this is absolutely amazing, all the guys are just dancing and Christian is just so casual and it's like his routine is just natural to him to be honest it's amazing
It's a crying shame that all the fantastic music that was created for the Marilyn musical died when this show got canceled. The story of the second season was just plain stupid.
