The thing that makes Megan Hilty's Glinda so astonishing is the transformation of her character throughout the show. Compare this hilarious rendition of Popular in Act One to her breathtaking performance of Thank Goodness in Act 2. Truly magnificent.
I love this performance because Megan is HILARIOUS but she knows balance. The sequence where Elphaba is telling her secret is played STRAIGHT which is so important. It gives some rich depth to what is otherwise uproarious comedy.
I agree. None of the laughs are at the expense of the story, which is great. I also love that she gives us some really nice vocals during the song. A lot of Glindas just set the vocals aside on this song in favor of humor alone, but it's a great tune. I appreciate that Megan gives the music some love in this scene.
I agree! Alli Mauzey's Glinda was a bit too childish and hyper for me. It was hard to feel the seriousness with a baby voice responding to Elphaba. And the Glinda perks felt out-of-place (felt like watching a toddler trying to amuse the audience).
okay, but can we take a second to appreciate Eden's milkflower monologue??? genuinely the best I've seen it - usually, to me, it feels like she's kinda just saying it like a fact that everyone knows/something she assumes everyone thinks about her, but here Eden really made it feel like something she's been bottling up for years and it is visibly breaking her to release it.
"this was THE Popular" YES!!!! also this was pretty much the clearest of the earliest bootlegs it was either this or cheno's final show taken on a hot potato HAHAHAHA
You can tell this is the performance that arianna grande took inspo from. From the growls to the intonations, and comedy. She really was a good Glinda.
Next to the original actress Kristin Chenoweth Megan was one of the best Glinda's of the century. She is very excitable and she fits the role of Glinda 100%. I love it how Megan acts like she drank a can of Red Bull just before this scene because she acts so hyperactive.
I personally think Kristen Chenoweth was better because she excelled in all aspects, the classic Galina energy, the peppy voice, and especially the sad parts.
So lovely! The “toss toss toss” bit reminds me of “bend and snap” from Legally Blonde - G(a)linda, Elle Woods, Emma Woodhouse - such rich characters...they make mistakes and hurt others but have golden hearts so it makes me ache so much more for what happens to Elphie and Glinda...
Funny you should compare Glinda tp Elle Woods, considering that Laura Bell Bundy (originator of Elle's role on broadway) was Kristin Chenoweth's original standby as Glinda.
Calm down, nobody’s gonna pretend to be reminded of Chenoweth and that’s not remotely insulting or an implication that Hilty didn’t give her own spin on it. Chenoweth originated the part and actors are still directed to play out what she did in it, there’s gonna be a resemblance and people are gonna notice it.
She does such a good job of sounding and acting just like Kristin Chenoweth in this role , which I assume is what they wanted her to do since everyone wants to see the original Broadway cast. But she does add a few little changes that are really cool! She does an amazing job!
She was originally Kristin and Jennifer’s understudy and after they left they gave her the role, she might do some things Kristin created but like Jen made it her own. They don’t want carbon copies
Winnie Holzman is a genius. In this scene, Glinda deconstructs every single thing Elphaba doesn’t like about herself. She tells Elphie that her mother’s death and sister’s disability aren’t her fault, that she deserves nice things, and that she’s beautiful and worthy of love.
I think Megan's chemistry with Shoshana was BEST, but Eden and Megan were DEFINITELY my personal top second best favorite. Megan was DEFINITELY my favorite Glinda after Kristin.
My first Wicked cast! I saw them in the tour in Hollywood in 2007. Pretty sure it was both of them, but Megan was there for sure. Now I've seen it 8 or 9 times; I've actually lost count!
"LAAA LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA LAAAAAAAAAAAAAA LAAAAAAAAAAA'" E: u ok? G: LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I AM HELPING YOUUUUUUUUUU NOT MEEEEEEEEEEE LAAAAAA LAAAAAAAAAA LAAAAAAAAA
She had this wig first. All the Glindas had curls at this time. Kristin had a straight wig, but subsequent Glindas were curly until they brought the straight back in 2007.
@@CaseyBlizzard Yeah, Kristin I remembered had the straight wig. Like i love the straight wig more than the curly haired wig. So it was straight and then made it curly and then brought it back to straight?
@@camara1194 yes, that's right. They've done a lot of different styles for this wig over the years, but the tightly curled style Megan has in this video hasn't really come back. I agree, I like the straighter one with a bit of curl at the bottom. It's a nice contrast to the curly bubble gown wig and the regal updo that starts the second act. It's like Glinda's youthful look.
I like the different types of Galinda/Glinda ... those that are like pretentious and snooty ... and those like what Megan did here... who are total brats we also have to remember that the characters are supposed to be like late teens early 20s (18-20) just leaving home and going to college (SHIZ U!!!)
Personally, I feel like her performance as Glinda on Broadway was better than when she performed again in L.A. When she returned to Wicked in Los Angeles, I wasn't getting the same vibe that she was here on her run on Broadway, When she performed in Los Angeles, Megan looked like she was trying too hard which kind of sucked the comedy and fun out of her performance as Glinda. Not to say she was bad, I just felt like her Broadway performances as Glinda were better and more in character than her performances in LA
As talented as Ms. Hilty is, I don't think she was right for this role. Her take on Marilyn Monroe in the tv show "Smash" is a winner. I'm sure she's great in the "Death Becomes Her" musical.
@CaseyBlizzard Ms. Hilty's style-IMHO--is bolder, maybe even brassier, than Ms. Chenowith's. So I guess I'm biased to the person who first played the part.
The thing that makes Megan Hilty's Glinda so astonishing is the transformation of her character throughout the show. Compare this hilarious rendition of Popular in Act One to her breathtaking performance of Thank Goodness in Act 2. Truly magnificent.
Having ADHD and being autistic feels like being both Elphaba and Glinda at the same time 😄😅❤️👏❗️

i absolutely LOVE how Elphie is super into it
This was so chaotic and I loved every second💀
5:28 I adore her, especially that last "Like MEEEE" which made Elpheba's actress break character xD
I saw her in the first Toronto run of Wicked and was so happy with the performance.
Real
Her voice seems so effortless. Amazing technique and control, and a huge range with real power all the way up and down! WOW.

Her ballgown is ENGRAINED in my mind for all eternity.
"this was THE Popular" YES!!!! also this was pretty much the clearest of the earliest bootlegs it was either this or cheno's final show taken on a hot potato HAHAHAHA
This was my first bootleg and first time I seen wicked in full
You can tell this is the performance that arianna grande took inspo from. From the growls to the intonations, and comedy. She really was a good Glinda.
THIS IS SO COMEDIC OMG I LOVE HER
Next to the original actress Kristin Chenoweth Megan was one of the best Glinda's of the century. She is very excitable and she fits the role of Glinda 100%. I love it how Megan acts like she drank a can of Red Bull just before this scene because she acts so hyperactive.
She is by far the best Glinda I've ever seen! She makes the character really likable.
I personally think Kristen Chenoweth was better because she excelled in all aspects, the classic Galina energy, the peppy voice, and especially the sad parts.
Ms. Kristin is my fave, but Megan really does have an energetic likeability that is absolutely necessary for the role. I think she's excellent.

I’ve watched at least 9 or 10 versions and Megan made this truly unique and hilarious. Burst out laughing which is something I rarely do 💙
"Veryvery popUlar...like!...MAAAYYYYY!"
A legend.
Megan Hilty is truly a good actress I love her
For those of you saying she reminds you of Kristin, no. No.
She reminds you of Megan Hilty.
She has her own, honestly perfect version of Glinda.
Maybe you haven't seen Kristen's Glitter and Be Gay, from Candide: even the same dress!!!
Calm down, nobody’s gonna pretend to be reminded of Chenoweth and that’s not remotely insulting or an implication that Hilty didn’t give her own spin on it. Totally agree! Kristin was og forever but Megan’s my favorite
I saw Megan and Eden at the Pantages in Hollywood and both were genius. Megan was born to be a Broadway star. ❤
I did too! Incredible performances from both.
Megan & Eden's chemistry was so fire!
Alli Mauzey and Megan Hilty kill this!!!
Yess and they also so different, i love alli version better
Saw them a few weeks before this was recorded and I'm SO glad this exists!!!!
Eden and Megan are My Elphaba & Glinda... Had the joy of seeing them a few times while they were in residence here in Hollywood. LOVE.
Best I have seen. Hands down.
I miss hearing that BALLGOOWWWWNNNN!
“BALLGOWWWWWWWN!”
Poor Elphie! Lol
She does such a good job of sounding and acting just like Kristin Chenoweth in this role , which I assume is what they wanted her to do since everyone wants to see the original Broadway cast. But she does add a few little changes that are really cool! She does an amazing job!
Lol her Glinda is nothing like Kristin’s
She was originally Kristin and Jennifer’s understudy and after they left they gave her the role, she might do some things Kristin created but like Jen made it her own. They don’t want carbon copies
She stood by for Jennifer, but not Kristin.
Entertaining AND efficient!
Megan is an Aries and I love imagining that she played this as her, but as a child😃
Chilling performance! Brava!
Finally another actress that can do Glinda justice. She’s my next favorite after Kristen Chenoweth
She was great OMG
The jokes are NEVER ending!😂
i love her interpretation of galinda!
She is delightful as Glinda ! Very high energy, but very sweet and loving!
Oh my god how loud her second Ballgown was!
LOL😂 Poor Eden
This is EPIC!
Her comedic timing is unmatched
Never heard of her. She's GREAT!
I love this 😍
She nearly gave it all away at the end of 9:06, but saved it as she sat up 🤣🤣🥰
this is my favorite popular with my fave elphie & glinda
Megan was great in “9 to 5” too as Doralee. She sounded so much like Dolly Parton. 😊
She really is the best one in this part.
One of the craziest Glinda I've ever seen 😂😂😂
I think Megan's chemistry with Shoshana was BEST, but Eden and Megan were DEFINITELY my personal top second best favorite. Megan was DEFINITELY my favorite Glinda after Kristin.
Megan Hilty is THE BEST G(a)linda
i grew up on this video
MEGAN. HILTY.
"very very popular like... MEEEEEEAAAYYYY"
She reminds me of Fabi Bang's Glinda 🥰 they have such energy in common
She is the best.
Her and Ali Mauzey really can do Glinda. If Ariana Grande can't perform like this, we need an extra version!
My first Wicked cast! I saw them in the tour in Hollywood in 2007. Pretty sure it was both of them, but Megan was there for sure. Now I've seen it 8 or 9 times; I've actually lost count!
"LAAA LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA LAAAAAAAAAAAAAA LAAAAAAAAAAA'"
E: u ok?
G: LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I AM HELPING YOUUUUUUUUUU NOT MEEEEEEEEEEE LAAAAAA LAAAAAAAAAA LAAAAAAAAA
she's just so cute!
She’s the best Glinda! Next to the original Kristin Chenoweth
5:19 PLEASE
❤❤❤❤❤❤
5:45 the best part
lmao i was hoping it was the exact part i was thinking of ty
E: I have to go.
G: Well your WELCOME!
Oh I know her megan Hitly. She’s the Disney voice actor from T.O.T.O
I was wondering why they changed Megan’s wig? i loved the straight haired wig and got she whips it in Eden’s face. Cracked me up
She had this wig first. All the Glindas had curls at this time. Kristin had a straight wig, but subsequent Glindas were curly until they brought the straight back in 2007.

That is one overhyped Glinda XD I LOVE HER
too bad MH's performance (the complete show) wasn't recorded on dvd.....
i would love to see the entire show.....
My favorite glinda hands down
Your very first party, ever?
Do funerals count?
Do you have the full boot?

But Glinda instead of Galinda its bc of the Goat. I didn't watched the musical yet hehe (any links for the slime tutorial?)
Megan Hilty bodied this
Wait…. Is she wearing her bubble dress wig with the clips in it?… like is it due to her quick change or smth????
No, that's the style that the Glindas wore back around 2005ish-2007ish. It's a separate wig from the bubble wig.

Dare I say Megan Hilty did a better job & was funnier than Kristen Chenoweth?!

Not to say she was bad, I just felt like her Broadway performances as Glinda were better and more in character than her performances in LA
Yeah I would agree with that. I think she went a bit too far in LA and lost touch a bit. It became sort of toddlerish.
Is Elphie here Eden?
Yes it's her
왜 한국인 없냥..
Because it’s broadway, where the show originated…
The Ga is silent
As talented as Ms. Hilty is, I don't think she was right for this role. Her take on Marilyn Monroe in the tv show "Smash" is a winner. I'm sure she's great in the "Death Becomes Her" musical.
