I did pick the 2022 RX350 (my 5th RX) for several reasons : 1. Reliability 2. Resale value 3. Luxury cache (which is important to everyone who would consider one of these, bc if not you'd buy a Telluride or a Palisade). Rarely has anyone ever been asked 'is that YOUR Acura?!' Also, motorized, heated/ventilated rear seats, and rear sunshades are options available on the RX.
You did the good choice, i was looking to buy the MDX 2021 but they have lower resale value and reliability than Lexus. So i ended buying an used 2020 Lexus GX460 at the same price of the new MDX. Just take a look at the resale now, the used 2021 MDX worth much less than my 2020 GX.

I'm on my 3rd RX, first 450H. I love these cars- they are virtually maintenance free. The Acura is beautiful, but the re-design RX 350 is going to be a game changer! Great review.
Previously had a 2021 RXL hybrid (had issues with it and returned it), now getting a 2022 MDX. The RX is bound for a refresh, hopefully we see it next year, however, the interior quality itself slightly gets a better edge to the MDX. Just slightly. However, I feel like Acura really offered more features standard than the RX, and there’s just overall more space in the third row. It’s not significantly larger, but the floor is definitely a bit deeper and there’s a little bit more room where your legs may not touch the second row seats. It’s not amazing but definitely way better than the RXL. I’d say for now the MDX seems to offer a better value.
@@elitechen5918 I'd say both cars have their own touch to their design. I think this year's MDX has definitely stepped up to previous generations (I was never a big fan of the van-like design of previous generations), and the RX in general has a more timeless design that doesn't appear old due to their sharper edges. In the end regardless of vehicle class, I'd get an IS because those look really sweet.

Hey 👋 love the comparison video 📹 and both vehicles would be a good pick I have to choose the ACURA MDX since it bigger. Thank you for bringing this to us.
Comfort, Reliable, Safe and Elegance are the strong reasons for me to have a RX. You can't have everything in a car, it depends on which qualities you are looking for.
RX is definitely a winner as long term lovable midsize luxury SUV. The resale value, reliability, low cost of maintenance and the name brand are unparalleled. Lexus Is the elite of luxury automobiles.
@hon solo despite of rx model didnt get any facelift since 2018 ,so the RX looks outdated if we compare with the rivals such as infiniti qx60, mdx or gv80 from genesis
@hon solo Yes, I know that, Lexus is known for its comfort and has the quietest drive, including its reliability in the premium brand class (luxury brand). However, Lexus is more concerned with the two things above than about engine performance, yes it makes sense why they are famous for machines that have high reliability, because engines that produce higher power will shorten the life of the engine (the engine is more stressed), brand brand Europe, especially from Germany, has a weakness in the reliability section because they include new advanced technology but once damaged it will grab onto other devices as well, that's the reason why their service costs (replacement of their new parts) are more expensive, because they push the engine performance so that it lasts longer. the engine is also shorter
I did the comparison & purchased the RX350 (luxury package) loaded out. I like the fact that the RX has a NA V6 engine and a bullet-proof 8-spd transmission. When you compare similarly optioned vehicles, you can see why the RX is by far the best selling crossover in this segment. Personally, I really like the RX's pano sunroof, HUD display, the Mark Levinson sound system, Semi-Aniline Leather seats, full LED lights, 8.2" ground clearance, superior reliability and on and on... Remember, neither of these 2 are a track monster.
@@barrydraper RX 350 can accelerate from 0-60mph in 7.7 seconds , the mdx 6.4seconds.. acura has 3 row seat, better materials, u are just paying for an overpriced toyota!!!
I’m a huge Lexus fan, back then in 2016 when it got a big refresh it was really good but now it just feels outdated tbh but I can’t wait for the redesign of it!
@@utopian2045 I wouldn't worry about what Consumer Reports says about it. For some reason they've hated Honda/Acura for many years. I'd love to know why...
As always, nice comparison! Going into this I was betting on the RX, but am surprised how much the MDX has improved, and realized it is now a true competitor for the RX. Lexus needs to up it's game for the next redesign in this segment.
Please compare the 2022 RX and the 2022 MDX. Also, I’m actually shopping for a car. The MDX is a better value but the RX just looks better. I’m so torn. 🙁
I’m in the boat. I’m in the market for a new SUV, but I am stuck between the MDX & a RX 450hl. I love everything about the MDX, except for when I look at the exterior and reminds me of an Odyssey van. I have kids but I do not want to settle for a mom-mobile looking car. However, the RX interior looks old-school and can use some modern touches. Most importantly, I am not a huge person 5’2” 140lbs, but I have a hard time getting in and out of the RX. I’m so torn.
For the 2022 MDX they've made it 2 inches longer than the previous model, which I can barely walk around in my garage. If you plan to park in a garage that's something to consider. I've had a MDX 2.5 years and still have trouble parking it. 2022 mdx does not have a touch screen while the rx does. We plan to turn in our mdx after the lease is up and buy a 2020 rx.
Get a test ride. I was on the market last year shopping for Lexus RX and Acura RDX. Both great vehicles. The professionalism from each and every Lexus dealerships made such a big difference to me that I never second guessed going with a Lexus.
Well, I test drove both of these recently (July 2021). The MDX is more lively, handles better and the interior is fantastic. The RX is allot more subdued, but is a little quieter and smoother. Ya, the interior while excellent quality in the RX, feels dated. Doing more research I have come accross the Acura and Lexus histories for reliability and Lexus wins in that category hands down. The MDX model refresh is new and we can't know if the infotainment and transmission will be trouble free, but all reports suggest the Lexus is bulletproof in that regard. I also found the use of the MDX infotainment touchpad to be not as bad as I thought and now, would not consider it a deal breaker any longer. Issue for me now is reliability may be a question mark with the MDX.
@@tiberius_akh Hey Andrew - Haven't yet. I'm in a very fortunate position where I have little bit of time before I will have to get a car. Anyways, I have yet to have a 22 MDX Type-S made available for a close up look and drive. Dealer in my area has stated the Type-S isn't expected at dealers until the first quarter of 2022. I want to drive one before I make a final decision, as the extra power in the Type-S is of strong interest to me. It's a tug of war for me at times, as in I really want above average reliability, good in snow, but also performance too. Moreover, all this waiting has allowed closer looks at the competition for me. For example, the Genesis GV-80 is beautiful, but with less pedigree than Acura and Lexus, hard sell for me as I'm much less of a risk taker than when I was younger lol. Similarly, the BMW X5 X Drive 40i has made me quite fond of their product. But as I keep my vehicles for about ten years, that could get inconvenient and quite costly (for me anyways) as out of warranty BMW's can be more expensive than their Japanese competitors according to my research. What could complicate things, is there is talk Lexus is releasing new models soon, including a new design for the RX. I'm at my ten years for my 2011 Highlander which has been a very satisfying and reliable experience. I don't think I'm brand loyal per say, but I'm quite certain I won't deviate from a Honda or Toyota product, simply for peace of mind. I'll wait and drive the Type - S, if I feel the drive is worth the extra dough I won't need more than a brief cup of coffee to think it over. How about you?
@@andyp7787 Thanks for your reply. Got quotes for '22 MDX and RX350L. Acura dealers all wanted markup while Lexus dealers are willing to sell at MSRP. Unsure if waiting will help or situation will get worse
@@tiberius_akh That sounds about right with my experiences. I didn't get any mark up over list when I got quotes, but with the state of things, I guess that's how some dealers wanna play it. I went to a Bimmer dealer today with a friend. These are very nice cars, in almost all respects an upgrade over their Japanese counterparts. However, even the sales manager told me it's best to enjoy a BMW while still under warranty. Leasing is recommended, unless of course you have very deep pockets. I think that alone leaves me out for a BMW as my conservative penchant for reasonable reliability, at a reasonable cost long term (ten years) is too high a priority. Glad I looked and I can see why they fill a significant part of automobile sales overall, as they are pretty stunning. For me, it reinforces the idea of staying with a Honda/Toyota product and staying within my own realistic comfort zone. I hope that Type-S is released soon.
@@tiberius_akh You should call around all the other dealership and ask if they charge mark up, I found one dealership that does not charge markup on theirs in the lot as well as pre-order. There's not a lot of cars out there, shortage, hence you have to put a deposit ($500 only) to get first dives in the incoming inventory and there's not a lot of incoming. I was lucky to find a dealership that negotiated with me, if I sell them my Lexus that I get two of the cars my family is buying with no markup. We are getting MDX and RDX aspec advance! I owed a CL and an MDX in the past both reliable except for transmission but since it was under warranty, it just got replaced at 99k miles. Can't wait to drive the new luxury all improved 2022 RDX and MDX!
I am going with the MDX! The build from the inside and out has me...on it! I love that 3rd row for my grandbabies/up to 2 children. I love the tech package. I haven't touched my screen much in the car I've had for 4 years, so not having a touch screen in the MDX is not a deal breaker for me. I love the Android Auto and the Google Assistant; I will speak. I love the PANARAMIC SUNROOF...hands down. I test drove the MDX ...there is no physical difference (I could feel) in the drive. I am a tech gal...so having the cabin talk in the MDX, which is a larger vehicle, is a plus.
As long as you don’t want ventilated seats that actually work, the MDX is a great pick. I loved mine but traded it for the RX a few months ago. Mine is the fully loaded model and not the F Sport shown here ( half the options )
Hello Car Confections. Good comparison video between the 2022 Acura MDX and the 2021 Lexus RX 350. The MDX clearly won this comparison. More updated interior and more spacious. Lexus needs to release the next generation fifth generation RX 350 and RX 350L either sometime later this year or sometime next year. This new generation MDX got released earlier this year back in February, the new generation Infiniti QX60 will be out very soon. So, that means Lexus needs to do something. In a upcoming vehicle comparison video maybe you guys can do a three way comparison between the Acura MDX in the Advanced trim, new generation Infiniti QX60 in the Autograph trim and the Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Summit Reserve trim. That would be great if a three way comparison is done because if it's done I think you guys might be the first to do it on a You Tube channel. If it can't be done, then the Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Summit Reserve trim vs Acura MDX in the Advanced trim. After that the Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Summit Reserve trim vs Infiniti QX60 in the Autograph trim and then the Acura MDX in the Advanced trim vs Infiniti QX60 in the Autograph trim. Very interesting matchups.
The only thing that I didn’t like about Acura is the look from outside . It’s very simple Snd doesn’t have deep style . For a luxurious car like that they didn’t definitely was lazy about the outside look . That is very important cuz that is what prowl will see first thing . And the Lexus destroyed with the looks just outside . All like single angle of Lexus look incredible and just all beauty. But Acura look a normal car from outside not as gorgeous as Lexus .
RX wins for me, I’ve built one custom that i’d die to have. 2022 RX-350 Premium (higher premium package, there’s like 2) White, with all the tech options and upgraded wheels. :)
Not really a fair comparison since the RX hasn’t had a refresh or redesign like the MDX just did. Where you see the real difference between the Lexus and Acura brands is when you take it in for service. Hands down, Lexus treats you like you’re special unlike Acura. I’m waiting for the RX refresh before I pick up my next Lexus. Oh, and I’ve had both a Lexus and an Acura so I know how both service departments treat you.
The regular RX 350 and the luxury RX 350 are like two completely different vehicles. With the added options in the RX 350 that make it a luxury package, add around $15,000 to the price… but it’s a huge difference in terms of interior looks. Again, it’s like two completely different vehicles in terms of looks inside.
Big Acura fan. I have owned Legend, CL, TL, RL. I after putting 188k miles on my RL 07, passed it to my nephew. I just brought MDX ‘20. ACURA RULES BABY!!’
The mdx wins on paper but it's also a brand new design and the lexus isn't. Also I've been reading about quality issues with the mdx already. Visit the forums.
Lexus RX outselling Acura MDX EVERY year by a wide margin. Unless consumers are stupid the real winner is Lexus RX. People that test these car get to test it and live with it for a few days. But consumers have the live with it for years. I have 2001 RX300 with 300,000 miles. I went through the same situations that I had to choose between MDX and RX. Never once that the RX left me stranded. Not once that it break down or need repair. I can’t say the same about my friend’s MDX that he towed away to junk yard for scraps because it had too many problems and too expensive to fix more than it worth.
@@brianmwirigi200 just look around and see how many old MDX still left on the road compared to RX300. I’m talking about 2000-2005. When you compared reliability you have to compared car when they are old not just few years old. I have a lot of experience with both Honda and Toyota. I would pick Toyota just because it’s non-interfere engine alone.
While yes Lexus is "outdated" he just compared the two models he had. He docked the rx for options his model didnt have even though the options are still there. I do not agree with that. Lexus and Toyota will always be "outdated" compared to other models but guess what they are one of if not the most reliable cars on the roads today. And for something that costs half of an average house ill take reliability over some quirky tech any day of the week.
Almost 60k lexus and still use halogen, no rear heated seats, no panoramic, seat ajustments is like the same as a 25k camry, no real leather. i don't get it.
Ummmm… Lexus does offer the panoramic roof option for the RX. I have one myself. The Lexus you showed was the lower grade package of the RX F Sport. I had to learn the hard way that there are different versions of the F Sport, and the one you showed doesn’t have the Mark Levinson sound system, or any of the other luxury amenities that makes this car great. Lexus also does have LED fog lights.
Well I already did my pick . I m going for the Lexus . And I don’t know where u found that Lexus so cheap lol 😂 . I mean here in Boston Massachusetts the Lexus go for $56k if u want to get the newest 2020 or $2021 probably is way more . So but in love with Lexus it’s much luxurious looking inside and out it’s just gorgeous. In my opinion I will try to get not just so black interior, I would like to be 2 colors .
I own 20’ RX450H F sport and I have pano roof. Best RX I’ve ever owned (99, 2002, 2005, 2010, 2016) along with two MDXs. Hybrid transaxle is best transmission to date. New MDX is great BUT uniformly poor Acura dealerships do not compare to customer service available at Lexus Dealers in Texas.
Dealer buying experience between Acura and Lexus, Lexus is hands down have the most luxurious sales, service department, and perks of being a Lexus owner. On Acura you almost feel like you're just buying another Honda. On the vehicle, both seems comparable in cost, reliability, and features. Maintenance I would go with Lexus as it use timing chain than belt on Acura. Lexus is quieter and Acura is more sportier. With both being "Luxury" not sure why they still don't use 4-piston type caliper, they use it other F-Sport or Type-S vehicle.
Both MDX & RX have timing BELTS. I've looked because I dont want to deal with a belt, but both have it. Would have been a deal breaker for me though. VCM is sort of a deal breaker for me on the Acura, RX does not have anything similar, look it up. VCM is a fuel management for the Acura motor.
The Lexus RX is too outdated to even compete with the competitions at the moment. We have to wait for the next generation RX to give it a good comparison as the current RX is about 5 years old.
Well i dont know u should put rx350 f sports handling compare with mdx! Sorry all my family and cousins had lexus and acura! I like it both but acura have damn transmission problem all the time i had mdx over 5years and its 160,000miles start having a transmission problem! My bro and my sister had rx350 for 7years and the miles its over 201,000miles! NO PROBLEM! So i trade rx350 f sports handling! Yeah!
considering the MDX low reliability rating and resale value ... absolutely Lexus is the big winner... Since inception Lexus made loud and clear that the reliability of the vehicle is the number one priority. Thats a major overhead when pricing Lexus. just measuring the cabin noise alone between MDX and RX gives you an idea of the amazing precision engineering of Lexus. I cannot believe how Lexus holds value that strong... being in auctions for 20 years and untill today NO ONE can beat Lexus in resale value... In my opinion people buy Lexus for this reason and newcomers to Lexus don't care about the handling stuff as much as they love the resale value of Lexus... It's not fun to drive a Lexus but the fact is Lexus can serve for so many years better than any car in the market.
The RX 350 is the clear winner and obviously the best in terms of looks and functionality. Americans and people in general love to root for the underdog… That’s why you see all the comments for the MDX. Look at sales to get your answer… The MDX has sold over 50,000 while the RX 350 has sold over 100,000 and continues to be the top seller of SUVs in the United States for over 10 years. The RX350 is more popular.

People that are seeking luxury cars don't care that much about reliability when they can afford the repairs. That's why cars like BMW, Audi, and Mercedes with poor reliability can out sell Lexus in many markets

My 2021 RDX has full LED lighting front and rear, it is an add on feature. I did not like the piano interior trim in the MDX. Both are nice cars. RDX includes a weather map application, it is not available on the MDX. Just some things I noticed.

Exactly. The Lexus looks more aggressive, it’s more dependable, and rides better, and will last longer. The comments are reflective of the video’s point scale. The average American is really “average”; we struggle with facts and are easily lead.

Personally, I really like the RX's pano sunroof, HUD display, the Mark Levinson sound system, Semi-Aniline Leather seats, full LED lights, 8.2" ground clearance, superior reliability and on and on... Remember, neither of these 2 are a track monster.

As always, nice comparison! Going into this I was betting on the RX, but am surprised how much the MDX has improved, and realized it is now a true competitor for the RX. Lexus needs to up it's game for the next redesign in this segment.
Might want to get the RX this year. Rumor has it, they're dumping the v6 for a twin turbo 4 cylinder for 2023. Probably means premium fuel!
Drove both, Lexus is my choice, drove 2017 MDX, and 2018 RX 350L, MDX not even close
You need to drive the new one
Probably the Acura is more advanced in technology........but no body beats lexus on reliability.
The MDX is a no-brainer for me.
What did you end up buying?
Nicely done,Acura! Now I have a reason to buy it. Thank you for your detail reviews.👍

MDX is better design but RX is the better car. I would certainly go with the RX for long term happiness and satisfaction.

Lexus, you need to step up your gang here! The MDX is more daily and more functional than the RX. MDX is a lot better.
Acura should get another 0.5 for having a passenger seat with 16 way adjustability.
Oh, and I’ve had both a Lexus and an Acura so I know how both service departments treat you.
yep, ive never looked at acura as a luxury brand. ive always seen them as a brand better than mainstream brands but worse than brands such as lexus.

This comparison just shows how outdated the RX is
Yep, Lexus is quite boring recently.
While yes Lexus is "outdated" he just compared the two models he had. He docked the rx for options his model didnt have even though the options are still there. I do not agree with that. Lexus and Toyota will always be "outdated" compared to other models but guess what they are one of if not the most reliable cars on the roads today. RX looks good but def need a complete redesign at this point. MDX FTW
At $60K for a 450Lh I'd look a Chevy Tahoe 3.0T diesel that could see 35 mpg at highway cruise.
Don't let the exterior of the mdx fool you. The rx driving quality is 2nd to none. Wish I could get the mdx design and the Lexus ride quality

I paused at the 18 second mark, and I believe the Acura MDX will win this comparison!!💯
considering the MDX low reliability rating and resale value ... absolutely Lexus is the big winner...
I heard some rumor that the MDX has little problem with the Transmission ! Anyone experiencing?
The sporty handling and sh-awd keeps me coming back to Acura.
LEXUS! I would not even compare them. TOYOTA / LEXUS is way reliable than HONDA / ACURA.
