- We demo the Pedal Pal 800 V3 Gold Foxrox Octron 3, J Rockett Mr Moto reverb and tremolo and Fender Lost Highway Phaser guitar effects pedals.
COVID-19: Please note that this was filmed before the social distancing measures were recommended by the UK government. We were lucky that we had plenty of content in the can!
Welcome to Pedal Jams, where we feature four guitar effects pedals that are new (to us anyway).
Our agenda is purely to plug them in, see what cool sounds and features we find. We also jam at the end over a backing track.
Life too short for long UA-cam videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.
Enjoy the episode!

Hi Dan & Mick, Here Luis from PedalPalFx ... Amazing video, we are totally honored to be on your show and very grateful for the opportunity... Please Keep Rocking and Stay Safe! Hope to see you soon at NAMM in the future.
Hi Luis! I have the V1 Gold800 and love it! I am amazed how it replicates the Marshall sound. I run into a semi clean Friedman PT-20 as I like the sound of your pedal better than the gain of that amp itself. Running thru return on the amp as a preamp is even better in my opinion. I believe you may have suggested that too. Thanks for creating such a great pedal!
@@tomjanssen1912 thanks a lot Tom for your comment, it really means a lot to us 🤘😁. Please stay safe and keep rocking.
PedalPalFx ; Congratulations on the best Marshall in a box pedal I've ever heard (and I've heard so many!). I'm going into different directions now, but if I need a Marshall in a box, I found the one. The Pedal Pal 800 V3. 😊👍
@@mariodriessen9740 Thanks a Lot Mario for your amazing comment 🤘😁, we really appreciate it, please stay safe and keep rocking. Luis.
@@mariodriessen9740 I am dying to hear The PAL 800 v3 against the Colombo Audio Plexi Breed - these are the 2 Best MIAB's that I've ever heard.
Also just to be clear I don’t think anyone in the TPS Fam minds these being 55 minutes. Amirite?
Fully agree!!!
I would watch - if it were a 3 hour episode - everytime. Love these guys, Tangents-and-all !!! Stay Safe everyone, we are All in This Together.
Michael Caz totally.
Yup longer format fine with me!
Longer = Better
MR Moto was a surf tune that was hit for The Belairs. The van is a VW bus favored by surfers
Can’t tell you gents how much I appreciate a new episode of TPS today. Makes social isolation a bit more enjoyable. Gonna get out my guitar, crank up the amp, and have a schwang after this. 🤘🏼Thanks Dan and Mick!
If you run a Lost Highway into a Mulholland Drive you end up in a dream of things both wonderful and strange where a Mystery Man calls you from your own home while standing in front of you at a party, then you go to a theater where a blue-haired lady whispers "Silencio".
Pedals, Walk With Me.
Everytime you fellows feature a JRockett pedal i pay attention. Their gear sounds so natual and organic to me. Easy to integrate into my rig; compatible with my "sound." Thank you.
I don't know what you thought was 'wrong' about the Pedal Pal 800, but to my ears that pedal is the closest Marshall in a box pedal I've ever heard. Well, for that JCM800 sound I mean. I liked it a lot.
I have the V1 Gold800 and love it. If replicates a marshall really well. I found running thru any cleaned up tube amp gives the best results. Highly recommend if you want a Marshall sound without a Marshall amp.
Thanks guys for giving us all something to look forward to and a short escape from everything going on in the world. Stay safe and healthy! Much love from Michigan!
That Pedal Jam in the end is a whole new level! Love it!
I own an Octron2, which is a big pedal, having three footswitches to activate the three tones. It is one of Foxrox' fave pedals. It has kid oof a jazz kinda sound. The lower octave is a way to simulate playing with a bass, since you can throw it out and in with a footswitch. It has an effect loop too, where most put a fuzz pedal. Really great for "Dazed and Confused" !!! Now one trick, is put your whole gain string inside the loop, and you can switch off the loop to jump to a clean tone. Since even your root tone has a volume control, so it can also function as a direct boost. It has a total bypass switch too, so you've got 4 switches on that one pedal. A good pedal for live play if Octave is your thing. Fox also sells his ZIM dual pedal that has changeable cards. Two of the cards are an octave card and a silicon fuzz card. The ZIM cards are different from the Octron, more the Hendrix tone I would say. ZIM also has a Big Muff card that is awesome(smooth). It makes that Pink Floyd "Sorrow" Muff tone.
You guys are a riot. Thanks so much.
Excellent fun and great jammage. Cheers guys.
Glorious and beautiful sonic soundscape with vintage down to earth humor!
Mick, your Collings sounds KILLER! I really love that Guitar. And I‘m highly pleased, that Blue is coming back after the Pickup swap. Thanks for keeping TPS up through this lonely time and ..... stay healthy Mick and Dan, where the Guitar World needs you now so Bad. 😊
Nice guys! I loved both the two different interpretations of the "JAMMAGE"! Enjoyed!!
The Rockett Mr Moto is sublime though, what a winner!
It's been 31 years, and memory being what it is, I believe the PAL800 set to +6dB in the middle position creates the tone I was getting from my very simple rig: Rickenbacker 360 > Marshall Guv'nor (v1) > Roland JC-160. I was immediately transported back it time. What a glorious sound. Thanks guys!
Love the Jam guys!
Holy smokes 💨💨💨 28:49 was incredible Mick. Both of you made all those pedals sound stellar. I thoroughly enjoy this channel.
Thank you so much.
✌🏻
I’m glad you said massive clock! That statement changes tremendously simply by eliminating a single character. Fun show guys.
Thanks for the video! I enjoyed the jam at the end. Massive bass coming from my woofer on my TV system. Wow! Both of your guitar playing is very impressive.
Can’t believe Mick got his massive clock out on TPS!! 😮
Cheers chaps, most enjoyable jam at the end. :)
Excited to see the Octron 3 b/c I have one and always love seeing different ways to use the same pedal
I love you guys. You always make me laugh and of course never fail to inform me of all things TONE!
Man, Frasiers backing track sounds gnarly! Love the tone of it, well mixed mate.
I ended up buying a Lost Highway and I absolutely love it! Thanks for the recommendation!
The Marshall-in-a-Box sounds tasty (enjoyed that appropriate bit of Sweet Child O'Mine, too, thx Dan!)! I love the gold aesthetic, too, with the Marshall gold knobs. Unmistakably, a Marshall-in-a-Box.
Luey Sixty-six
So I was hearing it!
Been awhile since I’ve listened to that solo, let alone played it, so I wasn’t 100% sure.
Mick and Dan, I’m hoping that during this time of social distancing, we’ll see more of the vlogs that I’ve come to know and love.. :) I’ve learned so much and been so inspired by them. :)
I haven’t even bought a pedal in years, I just love watching y’all play and shoot the shit!
Love you guys. Thanks!
I can't help but think that if this most recent series of fender pedals had "Insert New Boutique Brand Name Here" on them that people would falling over themselves to pick them up. Every demo I've heard has really impressed me and I'm particularly happy to see them making them analogue wherever possible. I'll be picking them up where I can!
When can we expect the "I have a massive clock" T-shirts to come out?
I certainly hope so!
Not until I get my "Don't Shoot Crabs" T-shirt
Half and hour of Dan and Mick having fun with massive clocks.
I'm a Les Paul & Marshall guy, so this episode really appealed to me. Great stuff guys!
you guys always get your reverb sounding so good
I love the pal 800 v3. Sounded great! Sold.
I got really excited when I saw the Morgan!
Cracking jam at the end chaps
Wow- you know, I knew foxrox existed- but they aren't on my normal radar- just checking the website out. Loving the sounds, and the quirky look of the enclosures! Thanks for sharing!
Hell Yeah Dan, killer licks at the start of the show!!!!!!!!!!
Thought Dan's jam at the end was killer... no way Mick could top it... oh wait!!! MR MOTO on a fast trem setting to the rescue. well played to both of you. great show. stay safe
Mick may have a massive "Clock" but some say that Dan's while maybe a bit smaller is of course analogue and a genuine 59 piece with authentic relicing from years of personal use.
Mick has a massive clock. Dan nearly loses his sh*t. Such a pleasure to watch you fellows whilst sitting at least 2m from everything
Love that Mr Moto!
In don’t often get excited about octaves, but the one today sounded great. Vintage character but modern tracking. Dan did a great job with the phaser too, I love the speed change with the velocity, so effective!
That PAL sounded great to me! The other pedals were cool as well!
Great GNR quote, Dan!
That Mr. Moto though!
Congrats on the channel! Always love to watch!
You guys could show the amps and their parameters when you're introducing them in the beginning of the episode!
This time I couldn't watch immediately when released because I've been working nonstop at home with with hole pandemic deal!
Cheers from Brazil!
Octron3 into King of Tone is my main riffing sound for over a year. Great combo!
Always cool to see y’all feature a pedal I use and love. Throw a compressor in front of that Octron. 🤘🏻
I LOVE the Gold Overdrive!! I have a previous version and it's very quiet considering how much gain there's on tap. It's also very touch sensitive and it responds well to your volume control on the guitar. I alternate between this and a treble booster into a cooking Marshall JTM45 style amp. I would like to try the v3 with the #34 switch.
Yess, the octron is amazing!
Did you have the octron running downstream from the 800? It really likes to see the guitar first.
I have a PAL 800 V2 and I agree with Mick that it can sometimes be harsh. I found that stacking the PAL behind a Tube Screamer (a TS 9 for me) mellows the output to a warmer sound. I will say the straight up PAL 800 does sound like my old Marshall so I think the builders exactly captured the sound- some will like it and some won’t.
Thanks and keep 'em coming. We need something to do!!! :)
The Pedal Pal sounds like a must have for anyone in a Rage Against The Machine tribute band! Instant Morello tones at the end from Dan in drop D!
Man, that Octron was a FUN pedal! I love my OC2, but this thing might have to happen. Really cool new tones guys. I don't know about you but I thought that Peal Pal 800 was doing the Marshall thing really well.
I love my octron 2, Used it on my second album. Really special. The internal buffer is amazing and before my germanium big muff is really special
I’ve been eyeing that PAL800 for a couple years now. It really has that growl of an 800
I’m a little disappointed that this 30 min video didn’t last an hour and a half 😛
Good opening jam.
Nice backing track there!
Dan sneaking a little Gn’R with the PAL there?
I’d love a longer show featuring just 4 pedals like this.
Gentlemen, in this challenging and ominous time, I cannot thank you enough for putting Mick's massive clock in my ear today.
Thanks for the snippet of an Angels solo Dan! Much luv from Canberra, Australia. Hope you guys are healthy, have toilet paper and are dodging the beer virus!
There are more of us who dig the 55 minute videos than those who dont.Dont change a thing guys!!
I've been curious about that Mr. Moto. :-)
Puns galore! LOL
What a handsome clock you have Mick!
Very big clock , I have a huge clock that hangs out in the dining room. ..😂😂😂.
Love the show, I'm a 50 year old beginner, keep safe.
Tasty jam at the end, bringing the best out of the pedals! Thanks for the video, hope you both are able to keep shooting nice footage, during the c-event! Btw, there were definitly some Ruban Nielson (Unknown Mortal Orchestra) tones at the end! Speaking of him, it would be soo cool if you can do a video together! He builts is own pedals! Peace!
Dan, Tele is always lovely, but I love when you play a Les Paul. Chords and sounds always remind me of Dean DeLeo with his switching between a Tele and Les Paul.
Nice jam in the end with Dan on phaser
I read the thumbnail as Pearl Jam and got super excited 😓
JCM 800 show?!? YES PLEASE!!! Minimum 90 mins duration 😁
Wicked!
i agree with others we trully enjoy your input an demoing of the pedals you both add a lot of flavor to the video...Dan your taste of note phasing is origional an i dig it Mick well u have that SRV atack an you both accent each other nicely maybe next time u guys play together on the backing track instead of taking turns ...just a thought ..question about the pedal pal the 60 db switch ...is mimicing the 4 channels jumped or just frequency responce ?nice vid guys...an i dont mind the longer shows if u are the type who is into this stuff you could geek about it all day an i get maybe thats your thoughts with shortening the videos ...trying to fit alot of info in a shorter time period ....keepem comin guys
I seen videos on the Pal800 and had to get one. After a couple months of waiting it arrived. I was a quite a bit disappointed honestly. It didn’t sound like my jcm at all which is why I bought it. I was playing in stereo and couldn’t use the amp distortion and needed a replacement. It’s just not the same. The closest I’ve found is the Colombo Lead Trilogy. It’s 3 amps in one regular size pedal and it’s AMAZING! I’m buying a second as a backup for my board. If you want jcm tone trust me n get it. The pal800 lacked low end even with the bass up. It’s a cool pedal and I’m not saying don’t try it but it’s not what you’re expecting
Mr. Moto is a fictional Japanese secret agent created by the American author John P. Marquand. He appeared in six novels by Marquand published between 1935 and 1957
Bimmer2047 the movies with Peter Lorre were cool too 😃
Indeed. And I loved the Mr. Moto detective movies when I was a little kid, as "reruns" on TV! Of course, the original character was later referenced by the Bel-Airs in their Surf instrumental, "Mr. Moto".
Thank you boyz for the vid.
I hope you soon do the Bugera T5 and the new EHX Oceans 12, wich is a real gem on the Reverb market.
Stay safe and healthy!! 😷
FoxRox Octron 3 sounds awesome, one of the best octavider type pedals I’ve ever heard. Prefer gain after it to keep the tracking accurate though.
Mick killed it at the end
Love my Octron 3. Direct at 3, bright on and high octave up to taste will get more Hendrixy, but it needs some playing to find.
Yeah, Foxrox! Finally. Suggestion to Dan, try the TZF 2. Thanks you guys for great shows too.
I think the flatter sounding mid position on the PAL800 is probably so you can stack other gain stages and thereby add some colour/flavour to the sound. I'd probably stick a purple plexi either before or after it for that little bit extra sominsomin
I like the "Mr. Moto" the most
Keep ‘me coming Dan & Mic... Only 90 more days to go... 😊🇺🇸
Thanks Guys!! WE ARE SO LUCKY!
When you do the JCM 800 show could you compare it to the 1987x you have? I’ve got a 4104 which is the 50 watt 2x12 combo JCM 800 and I’ve been seriously contemplating getting a studio vintage for that non master volume Marshall sound
The pinwheel also has peaked my interest.
Dan, your brain episodes reminds me of the quote:
"Of all the things I've lost in my life,......I miss my mind the most!!"
Hang in there mate :-)
6:25 , I like how Mick has no idea, that Dan plays Sweet Child O Mine solo :D (and he plays it well, may I add)
LoL totally! Dan is staring at Mick expecting a jokish comment and Mick is like......on mars or something LOL
The trick with the octron for the Hendrix thing is to remove all the clean blend. The the octave down and up can run 100% wet respectively and produce really cool sounds. Love my v2
If it's like the previous version the gain switch on the pedalpal is two different bright caps on the gain pot so it's very extreme on low gain settings but tightens up high gain settings nicely: try it with a strat.
Hi, Foxrox is so great when you pair it with a fuzzface or super fuzz type pedal.. All the best
Hey guys , big fan here ,i’m having issue using my tube tone driver from Baroni Lab (tube driver kind of pedal) with other pedals in front ( specially digital pedals) the sound becomes bright and harsh , i've used a buffer after this pedal like you guys said in the tube overdrives episode ,but doen’t sims to work , any other tips? would be nice if you guys could revisit this topic and re-do a episode on tube overdrive pedals and elaborate a little bit more in this matter . The best youtube channel ever. Big Thanks
really appreciate a massive clock
The Octron 3 replaces the Octron, but the Octron 2 is still in production. The Octron 2 has a footswitch for octave up, down and the guitar. Either is the best analog octave pedal around: the tracking is simply paralleled by anything else on the market.
Nice sounds, guys. I really liked the Mr Moto a lot. Could you please shed a little light on the blending of the two wave forms? I could hear a difference, but what was I hearing? Thanks guys, don't know what I'd do without TPS these days.
If your massive clock stays at 12:00 for more than 4 hours, please seek medical attention as it may be a sign of a more serious condition.
