OC! I just test road the MT07 and it was my first ride in a long time. I had a super blast and its super torquey in my opinion i think the MT07 would be a great daily bike as well as a commute bike doing over 80mph tucked down it was nice and fun on a straight road. I can't say anything on the R7 but if they are practically the same in terms of power and such for a fun daily 30min commute bike or a weekend bike i say the MT07 would be the best option. But i feel like the R7 would do better on the highway based on the windscreen and body positioning.
OC. Can't pick between the two easily, but I think I'd fancy the MT07 more for comfort. I would imagine we'll see front end swaps from R7 onto the 07 one of these days to come.
New OC, I would have to pick the MT07. givin my current riding demands. short but harsh commute, a race track is 6+hours in any direction. buy a bike you can enjoy right away and then think about an upgrade or build the bike to suit your needs. I bought the 2006 FZ6 in 06 and started stripping it after seeing the euro spec fazer600
First OC, i want an mt 09 as first bike, personaly i liked more the mt 07 riding position, i sittes on the mt 09 and i loved how i feeled grabing that beast.
OC: the frame geometry is also different, because Yamaha made the steering head angle steeper for better handling. The one problem guys had on the MT07 when road racing it was handling due to the relaxed steering head angle. No matter how much money they threw at the MT07 it just didn’t handle like an Sv650, which has been the standard for Lightweight and Twins racing.
OC! I like the styling of the R7 more but I know the MT is way more comfortable riding long distance. Depends on which type of riding you are going to do more of.
2021 Kawi zx6r (636) at local dealer is $9199 which includes traction control and quick shifter. This bike isn't even a contender. Yamaha took a step backwards with this one. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
I choose R7, i had an Mt-09 and did not like sitting straight up. I have had an R6 and R1 and thought they were more comfortable than the Mt-09. I also have an r3 which is in the middle and better for me than the MT-09 but not as good as the R6/R1. Reading comments and reviews i must be weird. The problem is mainly wind at highway speed. If these Mt bikes had big wind screens it would be a different story
OC. I like them both. Never road in my life but love your vids. I'm 41 and 5'7", so as a newbie, I'd go for the shorter Mt 07 just because it's shorter.💯 Wouldn't ride as a newbie on something that I couldn't flatfoot.
They fixed almost every complaint about the FZ/MT07 but put the fixes in the R7. On top of that Yamaha is charging a $1300 premium for basically a MT07 done right because it has an R in its name. So in short he is saying the R7 is what the "next gen" MT07 should have been other than the fairings, rider triangle and the $1300 price jump. Way to look out for your core customer base. Thanks Yamaha.
I strongly strongly strongly disagree about sport bikes in general being bad for your back. I had a major back surgery a little over a decade ago, and frequently have low back pain. The muck more upright position of a naked/standard, and the relaxed position of a cruiser is *much* worse for my back. Being leaned over takes all of the stress off the muscles in my lumbar region, and completely eliminates back pain. Sure, on some days it then hurts to stand *up*, but it doesn't hurt to ride. OTOH, a sport bike does make my knees feel sore after 2-3 hours.
OC: Tough decision for me as the MT07 screams hooligan fun and I ride like an absolute psychopath when I have no passenger. I've yet to test ride a R7 and believe I wouldn't be welcomed back if I test rode a R7 like I would normally ride it. Of course if I gave them full price for it up front they'd probably say go nuts. But I'm actually leaning towards the MT07 even though I love sportbikes.
Excellent chassis technical description, grateful! Need small detail on footrest alloy cover on the R7 versus plastic cover on MT-07 please? To fit those R7 alloy parts do you also need the lower casting as well as the upper one to properly stiffen chassis that area? Be grateful for that so can order parts (BEB27453 & BEB27463 are the upper left/right cast parts)
OC: MT07 cause well I already own a heavily modified 2014 MT07 which is an absolute peach to ride. I actually rev-match my downshifts aggressively everyday without a slipper clutch, I guess I got good at it but I dont feel any wheel chatter or spin up when doing it. I honestly would always keep the MT07 cause it makes a great everyday commuter, but I would love a sport bike for track days or weekends (like an older gen R6). I wouldn't want 2 bikes with the same engine, even though I LOVE the feel and sound of the CP2, it wouldn't make sense to me.
Did you drop your R7? Looks like the left turn signal isn't aligned with the right side. It's pointed upwards, just looks super strange lol. Wish they just kept the lights in the mirrors.
A great looking bike for sure. Sadly the R7 is probably not even in the top 5 because Chase apparently forgot about MV Agusta. Every bike they make is filthy.
I have a T700 with over 40000 km, absolutely love everything about it, recognising that nothing is perfect and everything can be improved . I can vouch for that engine in all realistic situations I am satisfied with a standard trail bike that will do about 200 and if I did not have 1 km of sand to get home I would consider owning all 3 of course I would like a hot rod but with the Michelin anakee wild tires on it I can still crank it over pretty well in the corners .I would really love 2 crank that R 7 over in my favourite corners but I am 58 so I guess I can be satisfied with what I have and there is a lot more traffic and police now than in the 1980s anyway ride safe nice to chat see you later
OC: Probably the MT-07 lol. As much as I love the R7 and appreciating Yamaha for the attempt of making a 2 cylinder supersport. I just think that a 2 cylinder motorcycle is built for a more torque feel which is more fitting for the MT-07. Also design-wise, this is completely subjective I love both designs, but I think the R7 looks slightly cooler. Probably because of the more aggressive look. The only thing I don't feel good about the R7 design is the round headlight in the air intake, between those 2 thin lights. Other than that, the bike looks fantastic.
Does the mt07 handle wind better than the mt03? My 03 gets absolutely tossed around at even 60 sometimes and it’s scary. When I upgrade I’m not sure which type of bike to buy. Gotta be Honda or yamaha, was thinking about the mt07
I am Six ft four, would i feel comfortable on either of these bikes as my first? im considering either this or the mt-07, or Ninja 400. I'm still unsure what to go for as I've never ridden any bike yet
OC i like the looks of the R7 I wish it had clip on like the R3 then I would buy it but because its like a super bike I have to go with the MT-07 once they put up side down adjustable forks on it in 2023

But i feel like the R7 would do better on the highway based on the windscreen and body positioning.
Just got the wife a 22 07 this year.. it feels more like a cruiser than the rest of the MT lineup
OC. Can't pick between the two easily, but I think I'd fancy the MT07 more for comfort. I would imagine we'll see front end swaps from R7 onto the 07 one of these days to come.
I just wish they kept the old front end on the MT, added a quickshifter + blipper, better brakes and front forks.
the quality of these videos are 100
New OC, I would have to pick the MT07. givin my current riding demands. short but harsh commute, a race track is 6+hours in any direction. buy a bike you can enjoy right away and then think about an upgrade or build the bike to suit your needs.
OC. The rumoured R9, I'll very likely buy that bike if it happens.
Really liking the music choices these days too :)
So they're the same bike. Thanks for the comparison!
So it will be a gutless wonder like the mt07 not worth buying then glad you mentioned that early on so you saved my time thanks
I would pick the R6 I know it isn’t in the video but still it’s a phenomenal bike in my opinion and the sound is like no other
OC. The MT07. Now the questions that you did not address. Can the slipper clutch and front suspension from the R7 be a direct swap to the MT07???
Great video. Moving over from a Harley and looking at sport bikes, lots of information to soak up, thanks!
OC!!! I'm really loving this R7 look
That third best looking bike was the fireblade :)
A great looking bike for sure. Sadly the R7 is probably not even in the top 5 because Chase apparently forgot about MV Agusta. Every bike they make is filthy.
Can you switch the suspension on the MT07 and by the suspension from the r7?
I can't decide which I like more but as a beginner rider I think I'd take a mt 07 and then later on get an r7
What was that RQ my short-term memory is atrocious enjoy what you do
O.C. I was really considering getting a MT 07 until the R7 came out now I'm getting a R7 hahahaha
Mt07 would be my pick if I was trading my bike. If I was getting it in addition to my cb500f I’d go with the R7
OC
Which would be a better platform for stunting?
I'm hoping to pick up the R7 sometime next year. - OC
Very good vid guys. If i was in the market for a trackday bike, i'd strongly look at an R7
Does the mt07 handle wind better than the mt03? My 03 gets absolutely tossed around at even 60 sometimes and it’s scary. When I upgrade I’m not sure which type of bike to buy. Gotta be Honda or yamaha, was thinking about the mt07
OC! The R7 for sure. Not a big fan of naked bikes. Dont get me wrong though. Would still ride one and be happy. LOL
Great video as always.
M7
OC I like the MT07 I’m done riding supersports bike, i love my back too much lol
Does the R7 stress member fit on the MT07??
I am Six ft four, would i feel comfortable on either of these bikes as my first? im considering either this or the mt-07, or Ninja 400. I'm still unsure what to go for as I've never ridden any bike yet
Cool video chase. Would like to see a similar video on the difference between the R6 and the R7.
OC i like the looks of the R7 I wish it had clip on like the R3 then I would buy it but because its like a super bike I have to go with the MT-07 once they put up side down adjustable forks on it in 2023
OC: I'd love to get a MT-07 for my wife to learn to ride on.
So when's the new MT-09 First Ride coming out?
O.C: I’m in love with the MT line, so…. Not to mention the XSR line
Can you do a which you should buy vid. Like your mt03 R3.
Your vid helped my decision choosing the R3 and loving it. Getting ready to upgrade and can't decide between mt07 n R7
“GAGUE CLUSTER”
Gag the cluster!
