The game plays a lot like Bastion or Transistor while still having its own style and gameplay to set it apart from other games. Love it! Happy I kickstarted
+Bajumeru That's just Hideaki Anno's style, before he became shithead. Take a look at God Warriors(Animated ones), their design was his first anime work, from Nausicaa:Valley of the Wind, they resemble the titans from HLD even more considering Nausicaa's world.
+This is Tom unfortunately it came out the same year as super hot so it can't win that category. it's one of those weird things where I wish super hot wasn't eligible because it's going to sweep so many categories (in giantbomb's list, the only list I follow) that could've highlighted a variety of other good games. damn you super hot, you're just too good
This game is great so far. For a decent chunk of time, I thought the northern boss was my only choice and didn't even think to venture in the other areas, and not having the double dash made shit really needlessly hard.
Thank god Austin also thinks the comparisons to Dark Souls are farfetched. I'm interested to see what he thinks of the game as a whole, mainly because I feel like I'm missing something here. The aesthetic and general mystery is absolutely fascinating, but mechanically it just did not grab me. People saying 'HOW COME DARK SOULS GETS A PASS FOR BEING HARD' - ya just don't get it.
+Writing on Games I mean, people use "its the dark souls of" as a shorthand for any single well designed part of that game - be it rewarding challenge, lore and mechanical obscurity, varied bosses as the high points, continuity through respawns etc - to a ridiculously ambiguous point that it has become a meaningless joke by now. Even if _everything else about the game is completely different_. So unless the person actually specifies what they mean it's just an empty statement that should be disregarded, especially so if the person actually thinks dark souls reduces to that single aspect.
+Writing on Games it's very much going for a super minimalist zelda type of gameplay. you can find different weapons and outfits but they're mostly stuff you can miss, there's very few upgrades that are necessary. I certainly find it interesting and compelling, but if you don't feel like it's for you that's fine too.
+Aginor27 It actually has native DS4/XBONE controller support. No need for weird drivers and bloatware. Gameplay with KB/M is fine but not great. There's a popup when you start asking you play with a controller.
+Psycho683 the dev does have heart disease, so you can't be all too hard on that. There'll probably be some free content patch later on which adds multiplayer + side quests they promised.
So tired of Dark Souls comparisons. Nothing about this is Souls like. Garbage mobs that can kill you easily is not something exclusive to Souls. Neither is stripped down story telling, a stamina bar, or medieval settings.
Ah, Vinny and his old complaint: "I want to feel like a badass and I`m failing at it, so let`s blame the game since its not on autopilot all the time."
I don't think I could ever grow tired of that art style.
This game has styyyyyle. Can't wait to check it out for myself.

This game has a unique contrast of being some incredibly comfortable in its style, and incredibly punishing in its difficulty. I love it to death.
+Morveyn comforting in its style? I made the mistake of starting this game past midnight and almost had nightmares O_O
More people need to play this.
Giant Bomb: Quick look at hyper light drifter
Also Giant Bomb:55 minute long video
Oh Beastie Boys you've done it again. Thumbs waaaay up!
Those titans in the beginning are just straight outta Neon Genesis Evangelion! Can't wait for the PS4 version.
+Bajumeru Do you know the release date for the ps4 version?
"Coming soon 2016" is all they've announced, as far as I know.
Thanks!

Big contender of Best Styyyyyyyle.

Man vs. Man.
Man vs. Nature.
Man vs. God.
Man vs. Jackal.
The major conflicts of this story :D

I was looking forward to this....
By doing 800 chain dashes you get a purple outfit that doubles your stamina, just to let you know!
I hope the Vita Version releases soon. I can't wait to play this on the go.
gee looks like someone watched evangelion
+TheKraliestGamer and Nausicaa of the valley of the wind.
+wisdumcube ..and Laputa - Castle in the Sky
Because I'm a dingus who's inept at hooking up controllers: how does it play with keyboard?
+Aginor27 Not very good in my opinion. It is obvious it was made for a controller.

is this where i complain about the 30 fps lock + the camera on ice making me feel sick as fuck?
Oh good, I'm not the only one. I felt bad after playing it for half an hour.
+Duke Bammerfire I've played it for hours without any issue.
No discussion of the 30 FPS issue? I'm a little surprised. Should check out SuperBunnyHop's video as well for his take.
Shame it's half finished despite having extended development time.

+Psycho683 - not sure what you mean by half-finished. I beat the game and it didn't seem like anything was missing to me.
+Psycho683 What on Earth are you talking about?
Graphics remind me of Risk Of Rain
+saiyansnake definitely gives me vibes of the Hopoo style, but more detailed than Hopoo
Only 1000 views? Wow
yup
I want this on my ps4. =(
Done
Why is the game so graphically demanding? I can run bioshock infinite on medium settings but I couldn't even start this up.
+Theyungcity23 It's not how demanding it is. Are you running the latest patch? Are you using integrated graphics?
Seems more Bastion than Dark Souls

+Dingle b-but dark souls was the first video game that let you die! it was the dark souls of dark souls

The art style won't save this boring game.
