Flamethrowers are completely legal to own, btw. You just can't use them. Same as tanks. You can legally own a tank, I think, in any state you just can't fire it or drive it around unless it's a designated area. Flamthrowers were considered inhumane, but mostly cumbersome and useless. They preach how it's a terrible way to die and it tends to be....loud and gruesome, but really just one bullet anywhere on the device would cause malfunctions or death. Not to mention using those packs going uphill was a struggle in itself.
The guy at the end left. Joined another game and got thrown back in the old one. Shows how active the launch community truly is. After 3 days it still only sold roughly 20k copies on Steam.
The map A LAS BARICADAS' name is a reference to the anarchist revolution in Spain during the 1930's, I know because I'm an anarchist and even I find it corny as heck.
I actually really enjoyed the idea of a dark, realistic and gritty depiction of being under a violent oppression. "Freedom launcher".. Oh. Well, that doesn't seem to fit these themes in the slightest.
I feel like Homefront should be going for goofy instead of any sort of type of realism. I'm saying Homefront would be better if you could press X to 'WOLVERINES!'
The game has a fantastic look to it's environment and lighting in particular but gameplay wise it just seems so... nothing, like there's just no unique feel or anything that stands out about it, which is a damn shame because again, the environment looks really good, but that seems to be the only redeeming quality it has. Having punishment and risk in a game is only worthwhile when the game is fun to play by default (such as in Dark Souls where it feels good simply to fight things), when it's already kind of boring, punishment just ends up being salt in the wound.
Homefront is apparently a franchise that isn't meant to be. This looks like the same pit that the first homefront fell into. Great premise but terrible unrealized execution. Only this may be slightly worse because now its the "endless side activities" and "outpost takeover" pit except not as good.
Not to get super "soap boxey", but I blame the over zealous folks who demand that America can't be depicted in any way other than heroic and powerful and flawless. Artists(film, games, books) could do some really cool stories and make people think about what could happen instead of blindly going along and thinking we're invincible...
OMG, this game is a reboot!? Did someone at the development studio just pray the stink of the last game was gonna go away if they rebooted the series one game in? What a mess this thing is...
"I'm 10 hours in, I just beat this last night." Is that how long the game actually is, or is Austin just providing extra context for this gameplay segment? If it's the first, fuck.
This game would have been reviewed better than it has and probably sold decent if it was released last gen. It's funny how people's standards and tastes have changed since last gen, this and The Order 1886 seem like they are relics from last gen.
Honestly this looks average, and I'm really disappointed because I had high hopes for this game too. RIP Kaos Studios and their Homefront IP. Crytek didn't look like they salvaged much from it.
So I get the whole "Don't piss off China thing" but here's the part I don't; It's obviously China. We all know it's supposed to be China. The Chinese know it's supposed to be them. How does paying the lip service of "Look out it's Chi- totally North Korea!" change that? If they're afraid of the Chinese then it seems to me that simply using a different name for them doesn't change much. It's like a little kid using "Nuh uh!" as a defense when caught red handed doing something wrong. Or like making up your own word to use as a racial slur instead of the n-word somehow means your not still doing exactly that thing. Just seems weird to me. They put sunglasses on China so that it's not China but it's still obviously China. What exactly does that accomplish? I'm asking.
Game angers China. China punishes publisher by banning their games. Publisher makes less money. Publisher execs sad because now stockholders angry they didn't make more money. Seems pretty simple to me.
TevorTheThird It's not like that stops anyone from trying. You're certainly not going to develop a market if you get yourself censored before you had a chance to begin with. Crytek also has a Shanghai office, so who knows what kind of goofy political soft shoeing is going on. No reason to get your company shutdown in the country and put all those people out of work _over this fucking game_, no less. Say Crytek decided to stand up for creative expression and got thier game banned in China. They've also soured their position with whatever body is in charge of censorship over there, which might fuck them over or make their lives needlessly difficult on their next release even if their next game is just some generic orks and goblins bullshit. It's a politically stupid thing to do.
I find it weird that you guys are calling out all the bad mechanics and story points in this game when they are literally the same as other games, and you guys dont make a huge deal out if it when you play them. Vinny seemed like the only one who was inquisitive and unbiased, Alex and Austin just seemed like total dicks and hated it because it isn't AAA and it didnt make the political statement that they wanted it to make. Also Vinny the chains on the guns are sling attachments most people use single-point slings nowadays.
But seriously I don't think Austin/Alex thought this out very much. I mean AC syndicate has you murdering people right in front of civilians to, and nobody cared. Plus this is not Austin's type of game. It's like having Patrick (when he was there)review COD or something.
"We're getting invaded? Good. They can help me move this couch" Hahaha
I appreciate Giant Bomb doing such a long quick look to fully convince people that it actually, truly, did turn out to be kinda meh.
The Freedom Launcher. For fuck's sake.
you understand that this thing is a game and not a documentary
Thanks for the dope-ass comment, Kraze Living c.
"Great work, Brady! Good job, Brady! Good work, Brady! Great job, Brady!" - Homefront: The Revolution in a nutshell

That's a good question. Might rely on state. I've never had to google "flamethrower ownership laws" lol
I absolutely Love that your bolt cutters are Red, White & Blue. Thats fucking hilarious. oh man that's so stupid.
11:37
i'm at the gun
i'm at the bike lock
i'm at the combination gun and bike lock
Yo, is that a Tig Notaro reference?
+Writing on Games I DON'T SEE YOU WHERE ARE YOU
Man this game looks like it has a lot of cool potential. It is a shame it fell short.
The guy at the end left. Joined another game and got thrown back in the old one. Shows how active the launch community truly is. After 3 days it still only sold roughly 20k copies on Steam.
one day I will come to US to claim my cost of paying VPN to watch giantbomb quicklooks. :)
I cam for the skull stabbing, but I stayed for the old lady cage fighter.
The audio quality on this is superb! If you've done something different then keep it up.
The map A LAS BARICADAS' name is a reference to the anarchist revolution in Spain during the 1930's, I know because I'm an anarchist and even I find it corny as heck.
at 5:04 keep your eye on the school bus.
+VaporReads Ah!
+brscic The NPCs aren't in front of the bus. They actually come quickly sliding into position around 5:05.
EAST COAST IS THE B-EAST COAST
+Matthew Jordan yep
Wait sometimes your guy just squishes his phone up to his face to look at his GPS?
I actually really enjoyed the idea of a dark, realistic and gritty depiction of being under a violent oppression. "Freedom launcher".. Oh. Well, that doesn't seem to fit these themes in the slightest.
This game looks awesome!
XD my Scottish Friend Refers to her Breasts as Norks!!!
The riot thing was KINDA cool.
So, Far Cry 3 as re-imagined by people who love Linkin Park music. Cool.
I made 420 and 69.
The novel for this franchise was a decent read.
wow.... just... wow
How does this compare to the first Homefront?
@1:10:20 lol Yeah! Rise up! Beat that rusty old van on cinder blocks!
Wow kind of sad to see this be a meh game. I was really hoping it could be a return to form for the people that were behind the timesplitter games.
They did it. They finally broke Austin
I feel like Homefront should be going for goofy instead of any sort of type of realism.
I'm saying Homefront would be better if you could press X to 'WOLVERINES!'
Holy shit someone get Austin a fucking pop filter.
A 'quick' 1 hour 40 minute look... XD Great video anyway!
The game has/had so much promise, but the execution is really weak
"We get this Black Mirror episode..."
That's not fair. Every episode of Black Mirror has more thought put into it than anything in Homefront does.
This looks like the least current gen game to come out in the last couple of years
its sort of sad this game looks like it had a lot of potential
The game has a fantastic look to it's environment and lighting in particular but gameplay wise it just seems so... nothing, like there's just no unique feel or anything that stands out about it, which is a damn shame because again, the environment looks really good, but that seems to be the only redeeming quality it has.

This comment was postedin error. How do I remove it please?
This game just looks like a Far Cry knockoff with a stupid premise
OMG, this game is a reboot!? Did someone at the development studio just pray the stink of the last game was gonna go away if they rebooted the series one game in? What a mess this thing is...
yeah, I think they hoped everyone forgot how crappy the first game was.
+OP4 Airsoft サバイバルゲームチーム It's not the same studio.
"I'm 10 hours in, I just beat this last night." Is that how long the game actually is, or is Austin just providing extra context for this gameplay segment? If it's the first, fuck.
+FancyKerbloops I've heard the single player was around 20 or so hours.
slycooper20 _
I see. That's good, I feared the worst.
the game is 20, Austin is using a save from 10 hours in
Dam, So many Haters, The game looks Great! Better than half the shit on the Market!!
What a series of claims!
As a Philadelphian I find this game personally offensive
Ahh, the sequel / reboot nobody asked for, or wanted.
This game would have been reviewed better than it has and probably sold decent if it was released last gen. It's funny how people's standards and tastes have changed since last gen, this and The Order 1886 seem like they are relics from last gen.
+eandjproductions2 Those graphics couldn't have been done on a PS3.
Clay3613 I'm not talking about graphics.
the cryengine is good and i dont think u know what it really looks at its best cause u watched it only on youtube
Kraze Living c I WASN'T TALKING ABOUT GRAPHICS
Quick look..... 1hr and 40 mins.
Hmm. Ok then.
Honestly this looks average, and I'm really disappointed because I had high hopes for this game too. RIP Kaos Studios and their Homefront IP. Crytek didn't look like they salvaged much from it.

You just said "China" more times in that comment than Donald Trump does all day.
Game angers China. China punishes publisher by banning their games. Publisher makes less money. Publisher execs sad because now stockholders angry they didn't make more money.
Seems pretty simple to me.
But the Chinese market is so restrictive that it barely iS a market. This isn't like Hollywood where a loss of Chinese sales is a critical blow.
TevorTheThird It's not like that stops anyone from trying. You're certainly not going to develop a market if you get yourself censored before you had a chance to begin with. I don't think I'll ever be able to not cringe watching people play a shooter with a controller
+Trafalgar Law controllers absolutely have their place in gaming. however their strength isn't precision which is what is desired in a FPS.
What ever you do, never ever... play this game on ps4 or Xboxone. It is BAD!!! But the game itself is generic af.
this guy can't not aim at all
LGBT launcher :D
Gerstmann... how much did you sell your sould to CBS for some new hair?
What the F#@K are you talking about????
Jeff, calm down.
"Quick look" with over one and a half hour?
Man this game seems like trash all around
Shame this game is just meh
Playing on PC but using a controller and can barely aim. Real life
I find it weird that you guys are calling out all the bad mechanics and story points in this game when they are literally the same as other games, and you guys dont make a huge deal out if it when you play them. yeah, when I think of people who really love AAA I think of Austin and Alex
Your right, I should have said they hate it because it's not wrestling, Gundam or a indie space game. Is that better?
But seriously I don't think Austin/Alex thought this out very much. I mean AC syndicate has you murdering people right in front of civilians to, and nobody cared. Plus this is not Austin's type of game. It's like having Patrick (when he was there)review COD or something.
