- Another beautiful summers day in Cleveland. The Ramblings continue!
#buzzretirementgarage #retirement #earlyretirement #cabletv #foodprices
It's nice to hear Buzz talking about things that I think a whole lot of retirees are also thinking about. Also I got rid of my cable box last year and have an antenna. I get the channels I watch and stream everything else on a smart TV. Saved me a $80.
Thanks, and good job!
Buzz, you are a breath of fresh air on UA-cam. Keep it coming.
I'm doing the best I can with limited talent. Lol
I'm at this great age where I watch retirement videos and recognize Mr. Bill. Pulling the plug next week at 62. Thanks for the great videos.
Congratulations on your upcoming retirement! Hopefully that's what you meant? Lol
I come to this site just to see someone who's happy. Keep up the good work!
Loving my retirement! You have no idea....Buzz
Molly - what a great comment. We need more Buzz and less political chaos!
I'm only 50 but I watch your videos and love them! and............... I'M FROM ERIE PA too!!!!!!
Thank you for watching! I appreciate you stopping by. Peach Street and Rankin Ave! Buzz
@@BuzzRetirementGarageWest County here ! 😊
Hi Buzz! Great bird feeder! Remember, not all grocery sales are SALES. Never buy meat at Aldi. They are great for many things, not meat. Keep a little notebook of the "sale" prices you pay in pencil. Change the price in the notebook every time you find it lower than is in your notebook. That price is the new price to pay. Never pay more than the last best sale price. Stock up when you find a price that is lower than in your notebook. Do this, and the grocery bill will come down and you will eat the things you like. If meat is not on sale for the best price, you don't eat it. Use your stockpile when there are no good meat sales that week. LOVE your ramblings!
I hope your UA-cam channel helps in your retirement plans. Fun to watch! Have a nice day 😊
It does but it may not be a long term project?
I think about an " On and On " Channel 😅 !!!
I love this ❤ ...
About your food bills, I think you should eat at least as well as your pets do! LOL You have such an honest face, you could even sell used cars!
People have told me I have so much BS that I could sell cars. Lol
Bird feeder over my shoulder could be the title of a great Garden of Buzz hit song!
You are always fun to listen to.😉
I appreciate that comment! Sometimes I wonder. Lol
Always enjoy your real life adventures Mr. Bill.
Good stuff, Buzz! The bird feeder looks like it's getting a lot of visitors today! 👌
Yes. Bluejays love the peanuts. Unsalted of course. Buzz
Nice garden, like hearing the birds chirping and visiting the birdfeeder.
Thank you. Bluejays love their peanuts. Buzz
Thanks Buzz. You are the real deal, a down to earth guy I’d love as my neighbor. As far as food budgets go, I don’t skimp on good quality, fresh food. I see healthy food as an investment in my health and the future me. I’ll cut out other stuff before high quality fresh food. Ps-Thanks for feeding the birds!
I feel the same way about quality of food. That's why I shy from farm raised fish unless it comes from the USA or Canada. High quality meats from Sam's club and Costco are winners too. Buzz
I'm 63 years old married, we are both retired. WHAT I noticed is that all retired personnel have is something very important, you may ask what is it???? ITS FRIKKEN "TIME" We are all blessed with time to use it at our choosing.! Make the best of it. GOD BLESS AMERICA 😅
Love your thoughts! Buzz
Buzz: Is this ramblings narrative like a Netflix show where this is Season One, which has 12 episodes, or is this more like the seventies, where we could have up to 24 or 26 episodes? I especially like the fact that the main character never changes.😆
😂
My goal is 74, just like my life warranty.
@@BuzzRetirementGarage 😅
Nice looking bird feeder, Buzz.
Hey , I enjoy your channel, drink your water, go Chiefs!
We are retired and this inflation is making us poorer every day that passes…ugh. So we buy generic groceries for almost everything. The prices are 60-70% of name brand. Btw, I’ve dealt with the most serious of skin conditions and luckily still above ground…my dermatologist says clothing is more efficient sun blocker than lotion or sprays so boonie hat and long sleeves for me. I also stay out of the high noon sun too. Just found you on UA-cam…enjoying your videos.
Thank you for watching and commenting! Buzz
Hi Buzz. I can’t keep up with the videos anymore. I am out and about enjoying my summer finding those retirement legs as you called them. I see Mr. Bill. I think I am late for all that though. Appreciate the ramblings. Groceries are indeed insane and in the debate right off the bat I heard a lie about what groceries cost now compared to four years ago. I thought, geez…whoever came up with that statistic, I want to shop where they do!
I'm glad you're out enjoying yourself! Videos are for rainy days. Lol.
Love the Hoolihan and Big Chuck t-shirt! 😊❤
Great mixture of topics Buzz, good to see you again, happy Independence Day.
Thank you for stopping by! Buzz
This guy makes me day!he's a pure practical person.
Thanks!
I didn’t know your name Mr. Bill - I thought you were Buzz Lightyear🥴
Good one! I have noted your comment. Thank you. Buzz
Oh Nooo! Mr. Bill is getting burned by too much solar radiation because he isn't using his coconut butter! Great episode as always Buzz.
Poor dude. I put him back in the house so he's good. Lol
Great job Buzz. We were at BJ's last night. My wife buys the frozen Salmon which ia individually packed and in its own marinade. It was $19.99 and am sure there's at least 8 filets? Not a bad deal, check it out. Was also looking to buy a piece of lattice like that over your shoulder????? LOL.
I don't have a membership with them but Sam's and Costco have similar but it has to be GF for her. Any added sauces or stuff normally has wheat in it so we can't buy it. Buzz
Happy 4th of July Buzz! Another fun video, thanks again.
Same to you! Thank you. Buzz
Looked like a Mr. Bill doll over your shoulder, in the garden???
If you could bottle your happiness and sell it…you would be a billionaire. Buzz, your spirits are so much more positive compared to last Fall.
Retired life is a true blessing. No doubt.
Ohhhh noooo! Mr. BILLLLLLLLLLLLL!
It's nice having him nearby. Lol
Practical stuff from a practical mind 🤠
Thank you!
Didn’t wear sunscreen in the 80’s but glad I started in my mid twenties!
I rarely wore it because I was always inside working. Lol
Mr.Bill, Oh no....😅😅😅
I can afford to eat out, but I can’t force myself to pay $40 for lunch for me and my wife.
It's crazy. $60 including tip for Olive garden. Nuts
You're one lucky guy, nobody helps me out in my garden. But Mr. Bill helps Mr. Buzz in his garden.
I'll help! I'll bring my little friend too!
Oh no, it's Mr. Bill!
I'm pulling for you to wear them down until you get a price you can live with! Great video Mr. Bill I mean Mr. Buzz!
I'm going back soon because I asked if I had any equipment upgrades due and they gave me the latest gateway unit. I'll take back the old one and ask some more questions. Buzz
Oh is it Mr. Bill in the garden!!!? haha!
I will note your comment. Thank you! Buzz
Hubby pointed out Mr Bill in the garden and Houlihan and Big Chuck shirt, said "This guy is cool"
I'm just Buzz. Nothing more. Lol.
Hello Buzz, good seeing you again. I reduce my cable cost. I got rid of the cable and kept the Internet. My contract was up in July and it was going up another $27. I have Apple TV. And I use that a lot so I’m trying to cut cost especially being retired. Keep them coming, brother.
That's good! Any money saved is great!
Hey Mr. Bill, being from Erie, you should be a Steelers fan!
I got out when I was 4.
I'll be getting my first SS Check this month!
Yes! Finally getting some back! Don't spend it all in one place. Lol
Down here in Texas, Okra grows like weeds (doesn't even require water it seems), cucumber grows well, and my favorite, spaghetti squash! One of my favorite discount stores besides Costco is Ollies. Often the inventory is comprised of obscure rejected items that didn't sell elsewhere, but I get towels to polish the car for under $3, Chips for under $2 and even Kellogg's K cereal for under $3 bucks. A good place to load up on vitamin enriched cereal. As a side note, Buzz uplifts my day. Certainly a breathe of fresh air!
Thank you for your kind words. Ollie's is where I buy my books. I always find something weird and interesting. They used to have those 24" x 24" carpet squares and we'd put them on the laminate flooring to deaden some noise. If an animal puked on it you could just throw it away if you wanted. Thanks my friend. Buzz
Don't sweat the grocery bills - you're doing the right thing shopping Costco and Sam's and watching the sales. Really recommend the food saver vacuum sealer to individually freeze the Costco steaks. They'll last forever in your freezer and their steaks are awesome! They sell it at Costco by the way for less than $100.
We had one years ago. I'll ask Mrs. Buzz if we should try that. Thanks!
@@BuzzRetirementGarageI have one and love it. Especially if you stock up on sales.
Internet is a business expense for Buzz's Retirement Garage.
Yes. True.
A portion the bill only since it’s used for entertainment as well. He’d have to prorate the internet cost.
Buzz, unfortunately, our ball caps aren't good enough. We gotta wear wide-brimmed hats. Protects the front, the back and *the sides*. They won't impact our good-looking-ness. ;D And there's liquidy, *tinted* or clear sunscreen out there that's easier to work with than the thick stuff. Heard mineral is better than chemical. A science teacher once told our class that if you burned to a blister at any time to give it 40-50 years and that's when the skin cancer/issues will show up.
I do have a wide brimmed hat too. Just don't wear it on video. Thank you for sharing my friend. Buzz
Hey Buzz see Mr. Bill is hanging with you. I cut my cable and found out I had a cap also. I’ve been using a TV antenna for local channels. I never get channel 2. Just bought a new one off Amazon supposed to be better.. I’ll let you know if it’s better and getting more local channels.
Getting the right antenna is also another project. I think a few people have UA-cam channels on it. Good luck! Buzz
i saw lots of birds visiting the bird feeder while you were talking.
Family of Bluejays love their peanuts.
I could smell that Tropical Coconut Oil in my memory when you brought it up. Oh, I see a doll in the background !
One of those sensory experiences you never forget. Lol.
Mr Bill is watching over your garden or maybe he’s looking at that bird feeder over your other shoulder 😂
Ha! I have noted your comment. Thank you. Buzz
Ohhhhh nooooooo, Mr Bill 😂😂😂
Comment noted. Thank you. Buzz
Hmmm, I see the little guy in red and blue. Hey Buzz, is your accent a PA accent or an OH accent? I can't give you any grocery shopping tips but I have a health coach through my insurance and she preaches drinking water and eating protein. Lots of protein. So your breakfast has protein! You are doing great with the water!
I think I have a Cleveland accent. Idk. I think not drinking enough water in my past led to some health problems which luckily got worked out. I can't prove that but it's probably a fact. Thanks for commenting!
Garden is looking great! Mr. Bill approves! 😂
We thank you! Buzz
Thanks Buzz
Thanks for watching! Buzz
Our biggest expenses are food and every day household needs, $1,100 in June! Medication is next, then utilities. I Spy Mr. Bill hanging around, enjoyed the video. 😌
Hopefully the costs of those items will at least stabilize. Not as many sales anymore so it seems. Buzz
Mr. Bill and I bet he loves the Steelers!
I just asked if he likes the Steelers and he said, "Oh, nooooo!". That's my boy!
The white lattus on one and mr . Bill over the other. Your garden looks pretty clean. I think i see a green tomato. Enjoy your thought for today. i will drink an extra glass.
Thank you for watching and commenting. All your comments are spot on! Buzz
The hat - husband’s plastic surgeon told him to only wear the UV protection hats (also with the wide brim to protect your face)!
And protect the ears!
Your food budget is only slightly higher than mine. For 2 people.
You might have gotten away with no sunscreen up til now this season, but if you're going fishing tomorrow you better stop at the store first, Buzz! Weren't the old days of SNL just the best? Gilda was my favorite, and the anticipation every week hoping for a land shark or Mr Bill episode was enough to make a person madly dash to the bathroom during commercials to not miss a second of it.
Those were the days my friend!
There’s spray stuff for sunscreen. While making a dermatologist appointment, I also push people to go to their eye doctor even if they see perfectly. I had a little trouble reading menus and went to an eye glass place and the tech running some tests said, “oh, you have glaucoma!” That was when I was 47. I started eye drops and can still see. Never forget a drop. I’ve had problems but I still get to drive my dream car, fully paid, Dodge Challenger. We haven’t tried Aldi, but we need to do something. In CT we have Big Y, and go there. We need to save in this area though. It’s almost a mortgage! And it’s only two of us. Cable at $242 is ok. But you may be able to get a higher MBPS internet and stream basic and maybe the entertainment package. Sometimes if you stop it for a few months for cable and go back as a new customer and get lower price. I saw a bird feeder with a camera for a perch.
I have a great eye doctor and he even puts you through a cognitive test! It just checks hand and eye coordination. He also said good that I didn't have cataracts before Medicare kicks in. You got that nice Challenger huh? Good job. Hope you find some less expensive places to shop! No deals on Internet from the cable company but I'm installing the $40/month T-Mobile unit tonight. Buzz
Another great video Buzz. I totally enjoy watching 👍🏻
Thank you for being here. Buzz
Do to the Dermo once a year. All that childhood sun and being bald gets me several spots frozen off my scalp every time.
Glad you go! It's important. Buzz
Lake Erie Walleye; better than Farm Raised Chinese Fish! Buzz; you have an open invitation to come up and Fish or just come for a Fish Fry! We have room for you and Mrs. Buzz! Always welcome.
That would be fun! Thanks!
We love eating caught fish and shrimp. It is a great cost savings too. Our food budget is $1700 month for family of 6
Love shrimp too but it's not cheap either. Depends on the size of course but $10.00/pound is average.
Buzz you are very informative. I feel your pain when it comes to cable. We have Spectrum and our cable is 209 and my wife will not go to streaming. My wife and I are basically down too two meals a day. Be sure to tell Mr. Bill hello from me. One day I will tell you my Mike Shannon story.
I'll try to wear her down with my incessant charm. Type that story out for us! Buzz
Hey Buzz, if you can filet a fish, you can de-bone a chicken thigh. It can save you some money.
Yep! I can do that!
Faroe Islands where that fish comes from is a bucket list travel spot for me!
I got to the end but someone else can have it
Eat a salmon for me when you get there!
@@BuzzRetirementGarage I'll get there someday. Too bad someday is not a day of the week!
Buzz: I've already had 6 dermatologist provided Blu Light treatments for AKs on my balding head over the last 2 years. I feel for you.
With regard to meat, do you have Kroger's in your area? I just loaded up on baby back ribs ($2.99 /lb). Aldi had St. Louis ribs on sale for $1.99 /lb last week. Both Costco and Sam's Club meats are continuing to rise although Wild Salmon at Costco is still $9.99 / lb. Sprouts usually has good prices on fish. Do you have any Asian markets near you? They usually have great prices on fresh fish. With regard to ribeyes, I usually wait for the prime rib roasts to go on sale at $4.99 - $6.99/lb and then carve up my own ribeyes and vacuum seal and freeze them to save on money. I cross shop all the online ads on Tuesday nights and make a list of the things we need and then I make my rounds. This week we cut our food bill by 45% versus the standard price by shopping the sales.
Take care and keep the ramblings coming...
Weird that they use a blu light? They always freeze mine. Works really well. No Kroger real close to me. We have a resteraunt called Famous Dave's and they do a good All American platter with ribs, chicken, brisket, fries, slaw , baked beans and corn muffins. I picked up $75 in gift cards for $56 at Sam's club. I think Sam's also had baby backs for under $3.00/lb but I forget the price. The ads really didn't have anything good this week. I'll keep looking! Buzz
Mr. Bill
Fictional Saturday Night Live character
I have noted your comment! Buzz
Great as usual with the ramblings. I think I see Mr Bill on a table or some sort of stand.
I have noted your comment. Thank you! Buzz
I was looking at where the garden used to be at the farm. Nothing there now but grass. Even the rhubarb and the bird feeder are gone.
I'll help you plant a new one next year!
Oh NO, it’s Mr. Bill…😂
I have noted your comment. Thank you. Buzz
Oh Mr Bill. Great ramblings as always. Still think Cox is robbing you all. That is way to much for internet, especially if being capped. I could see that price maybe for unlimited.
Have a great 4th of July.
I hear you! Trying out the T-Mobile tomorrow if I get the chance.
Looks like a Ragedy Andy or some type of cloth doll over your shoulder possibly. BTW, I thought you had talked the cable company down to $214. Good luck with it. My contract is expiring in a couple months dreading to see what I'll have to pay. I feel like internet is a basic necessity like water and electricity. I don't understand how providers are able to play these pricing games.
Good memory. $214 was if I took their cell service and eliminated home phone. I just didn't want to mess with the cell phone part. When I return my the old gateway I'll ask more about the cell phone on lan. They rope a dope you with too many options and try to make you agree to a bad decision. My opinion. Buzz
Another good one. Enjoyed it! Keep it up. take care Marc C out.
Thank you Sir!
SNL and Mr. Bill
By the way I looked at the Flashfood around Cleveland and found that one with meat ends...ugh. Okay don't go there. But if you know that you are going to be away from your area, check that Flashfood area, you may find some good deals, then throw a cooler in you car and pick up better deals. We keep a few jugs of ice in the freezer for trips like that. Meat has been getting harder to locate, I have to check often. It's like playing the lottery, but with food.
That's a good idea. Thank you! Buzz
You need a small boat to go out on lake erie and catch some perch and walleye whata think :)
I'm afraid of two things: Being buried alive and drowning in a lake or ocean. So, BIG boat for me! Lol
Hey Buzz,I like your ramblings lol, I do the same
It's my way. Strange but true. Lol
You are saying that you need to keep bringing down your budget. I think you are doing a great job. I see Mr Bill, but only with my glasses on.😊
Eventually I'll say enough! But, not yet!
Lol. I just meant I wonder if you have a certain percentage you are trying to save based on your changes in the budget? I think you and your wife have a lot to be proud of.
Alas, it's difficult to catch salmon in Lake Erie.
Actually, I have a salmon mounted in my basement that came from Rocky River which connects to Lake Erie. I was fishing for steelhead trout and caught the salmon! They're not plentiful, but there's some out there!
Hey Buzz, trying to cut our food bill, too. We are already vegetarian/plant based and we spend way too much on food. I think Giant Eagle is going to have to go. I have been comparing prices at Walmart and Aldi. We don't buy much of the processed vegan stuff. It is way too expensive. Oh, and you don't have to eat just beans and rice. Just make your favorite dishes minus the meat. Chili is a real easy one. I am making Shephard's pie tonight and using lentils instead of ground meat. Where do you think the best place is to buy paper products. Having a tough time with that one.
I actually bought a cheap plastic 4 tier shelving unit from Ollie's and it's practically filled with beans! My wife uses them a lot! Paper products for us is Sam's club. 51 cents a roll for TP.
Isn't retirement great? You sound so happy and I can relate! BTW, happy day to .r. bill over your shoulder.
Retirement has turned into something I couldn't envision. It's absolutely wonderful.
I am glad you like my chicken thigh idea. Works for us. And yes the thighs I think have one bone.
Oh yea one thing. Oh No Mr. Bill!!
That's right! Ever since you mentioned it I've (twice now) got the skin on type. Will be grilling them tomorrow if the rain holds up! Thanks. Buzz
I hate to boast, but I'm still working and will spend the upcoming weekend with a much older buddy who lives on a limited income. I splurged and ordered us a box from Omaha Steaks. We'll have steak, pork chops and chicken for four days! My buddy is frugal as heck and will be ticked, but he'll get over it and fire the barbecue!
BTW, got a reminder text from the dermatologist today reminding me of tomorrow morning's appointment.
Thanks for the encouragement, Buzz! Keep the vids coming!
The Omaha Steaks is expensive but it's pretty good. We've had it a few times in the past. You're buddy will love it no matter what he says. Glad about the dermatologist!
Where did you find Mr bill? Blast from the past.
The problem is Cox. Of you have any other choice take it!
Also you can use your cell phone as a hot spot for your TV. Check your phone plan. Most have a hot spot .
You're so right! Thank you. Buzz
No idea what’s over your shoulder. Maybe my eyes need testing 😂. My average weekly food bill has gone up 35% in the last year alone. Absolutely crazy.
Being from overseas you may not know. It's a USA thing. Lol
Here, a mile from Buffalo; a Dermatologist appointment in the "Free" Socialist Canadian Healthcare System is a 1-2 month wait, after a referral from a Physician . My Wife is on a 6 month waiting list just for a consultation on a hip replacement; if she needs one it will be 1-2 years; we're heading to a private clinic in Buffalo.
That's pretty sad. My dermatologist appointment was the following week that I made the appointment. When I had cancer 10 years ago our healthcare system from appointments to people to end result went without a hitch. I'm thankful for that!
Cable and internet are a little tricky!!! But living in the garage wouldn't be my cup of tea!! We are in shopping at the fresh veggie stands down here in Alabama!! Grat video!! Keep them coming!!!!!
They cancelled Saturday's farmers market close to me because of rain. Should be able to get some good stuff this Saturday.
@@BuzzRetirementGarage Great show today Mr. Buzz!!! Hope you keep growing!! You help us alot!!!
Going Plant Based has sure saved us a lot of money, and brought my LDL down too.
Funny some say plant based and other comments say carnivore. Hmmmm...
Buzz, I checked my internet data total usage going back to January. The previous 6 months were 457, 288, 412, 472, 278, and 520 (all GB). I did this as we also have UA-cam TV and watch it all the time, every day. My wife still works, but I'm retired and watch it regularly thru the day. In the evenings, we almost always watch 203 shows or a movie and a show or two. We are also both using the wi-fi for our phones when we're home and I'm on my PC regularly. Beyond that, we have a home security, home thermostat, and several other home devices that use wi-fi all the time. Hopefully, this will give you some idea of what data usage you might have with your ISP going forward.
Correction- that should say 2-3 shows (not 203).
That's excellent real world data and I appreciate that! If by some miracle the T-Mobile Internet for $40/month actually works, it will be a big step as it has unlimited data but I'm afraid they may throttle down at times. Maybe it won't be a big deal. Thanks for checking! That was nice of you. Buzz
I see a small figure I think it looks like Mr Bill.
I have noted your comment. Thank you! Buzz
I am enjoying your videos. My husband and I are trying to figure out how to live on social security before we retire, and the food costs are challenging. We decided in January to go WFPB (whole food plant based) because we want to stay healthy and I have learned a lot of recipes that actually taste quite good, so I was going to suggest maybe you could think about setting aside a few days a week that you challenge yourself not to eat meat or dairy on those days. It is easier than you would think and a lot cheaper. We are not vegan, though. There is a difference. You Tube has a lot of recipe channels and I love watching people cook. A green smoothie a day is really good for the body - I like Dr. Goldner's recipe - found her when I was looking for my niece who is on dialysis and I was trying to find healthier foods because she was needing to lose some weight and found her. Wow, she is something. Anyway, thanks for the chat.
We do eat a lot of lentil/bean meals or gluten free pasta meals. I subscribed to the Drs channel and I'll check her out tomorrow. Thanks! Buzz
Oh Mr. Bill you have a nice garden
I have noted your comment! Thank you. Buzz
Safeway here in western Oregon has bone in ribeye for 5.99 a lb for 1 family pack. They were beautiful. Both my daughter and I got a pkg of 4 each. Havent seen that price in awhile.
That's a great deal! I'd stock up on that deal!
Oh no! Mr. Bill! Hope Mr. Hand isn't around.
Lol
definitely a Mr Bill scarecrow. See you soon.
I will note your comment. Ohio, the Heart of it all!
