    Good luck with Connecten. It seems pretty good. My only problem with it is you need to be in a strong cell tower area.
    As a boondocker, I chose a different route. My RV came with a Winegard 360 4G antenna on the roof. That runs to a Gateway router. You can use various SIM cards/data plans.
    I chose Verizon’s 150 GB/month plan at $110/month.
    Works fantastic, deep in the forest or desert where wireless signals are weak. As the Wingard 360 boosts the cell signal.

    Its been amazing to see how the options have changed over the years. When we were out in Kelton last fall. I had 26 devices connected to our starlink. Its been "suspended" since we moved back into our house last Nov. I didn't un suspend it when we went out to Kelton again a few weeks ago and all my grandkids were upset with me. I told them for a couple days they would survive without their tablets and phones. T-Mobile actually told me it works where ever you get cell signal, so if you can make a call on your T-Mobile service phone you can get internet. However, they told me they would not guarantee it working on the move - as you driving but when you stop in a campground, for example, it should work. They must have scrapped that idea quick. I’m currently streaming your video on my new t-mobile home plan that I set up 2 weeks ago. I am 50 miles away from home and it’s working perfectly. I was a new T-Mobile customer and yet was only offered one tier of service which was unlimited for $50 per month but also got it discounted to $45 for autopay. I sure hope they saw that what you’re talking about was a terrible idea and went back and that’s why I got the good deal that I can travel with. I’m going to be pissed if the price goes up and it stops working on the road. Thanks for the vid!

      Part of me would love to take credit for a reversal of this decision, but I doubt little me could impact a juggernaut corporation like T-Mobile. There are a number of people that commented they cancelled the service because of this change. If several thousand cancelled, that might have been the message they needed. But my understanding is that there were some kinks in their plan and it's postponed until the kinks can be sorted out. I appreciate your comment, have a blessed week.

Just from looking at the website, I'm given the impression that Straight Talk was bought to let the company stagnate.

But I do not want to go with the company, unless absolutely necessary. I don't want to support a company that was against Net Neutrality. @@rvfamilylife How's that possible? I've been to a few websites and it seems the biggest companies give the "best" hotspots at the moment. By "best" I mean 50GB. I've not found an unlimited cellular hotspot option anywhere. Not since I stumbled across that with Straight Talk.
      I left Straight Talk, due to the 4G transition/upgrade to 5G scare. But what broke the camels back, for me anyway, was when Verizon bought out Straight Talk. :(
      I'm sure anyone who started using Straight Talk in it's infancy, is grandfathered into such services. As long as they don't lose service or fail to make payment a following month.
      I have an unlocked phone, so while this is great for me, in terms of going with any cellular company. I've not found any cellular service that provides unlimited hotspot. :( Do I have to go into the stores to request if such a service is available? I did, but the best they could give is 5GGo, which has recently replace Magenta Max.
      Thank you for your time and patience. Any help is appreciated.

    You are completely inaccurate on the pricing. T-Mobile Unlimited Internet ranges from $60.00 -- on the high end -- to $40.00. Also, that router will work anywhere that cellular service is available.

    • @rvfamilylife
      @rvfamilylife  14 днів тому

      Oh my goodness, I'm so inaccurate. My bill is $50 a month. It works wherever TMobile has signal... FOR NOW. TMobile is threatening to suspend service if it detects the modem at a different address. They are selling a new plan called Roam. I feel like I'm retyping the video.

  • @TurboSpeedWiFi
    @TurboSpeedWiFi Місяць тому

    Honestly, I think the move was intended to get people to jump ship. I do not think T-Mobile has any interest in providing unlimited data for users to use anywhere they can get a signal. It is not worthwhile to them even at a higher price point. It makes sizing the capacity of their network much more challenging. By setting the price point at $160 per month they will quickly weed out the customers they do not want. Yes, it kind of stinks but why they allowed it in the first place kind of surprises me.
    Also there is no need for GPS to enforce this. It is pretty easy for their network to only allow the gateway to connect to cell towers located near the service address. The nature of how a cell phone network means that T-Mobile has to know what tower you are connected to at all times. If your service address is in Florida and you try to connect from Texas the network will know immediately.

    We stopped buying phones through ATT because they always start a new contract. We buy phones outright and just swap the sim to keep from having a contract. I don’t like contracts. Course that’s probably a whole different thing with internet. But I don’t know cuz we don’t have internet for travel except for our phones. But we don’t need it since we don’t work from home. I don’t think companies really care if customers think prices are too high. They know people will pay it anyway. And I’m not just talking about internet or phone service. So weird they can just turn it off. I don’t get why starlink isn’t the almighty in internet choices. I feel like it falls short unless you’re in Arizona where there’s no trees. None of the others reallly surprise me. Wonder what happened to nomad internet. It was supposed to be just for people who roam. It sort of just faded away or something. Guess it must not have been great either. You would think in this day and age of technology someone could come up with a service that is good everywhere under all circumstances and situations.

    • @rvfamilylife
      @rvfamilylife  Місяць тому +2

      That is an excellent tip about how a new contract is started if you get a new phone with them. Starlink get's too intermittent as soon as you add one tree branch, it's a bit of a bummer. Nomad internet is a whole scandal. That was like an episode of Dateline NBC watching that unfold. The dude running it is a long time scam artist going by aliases. RV Miles channel did a breakdown (that literally played like an episode of Dateline) where they deep dived into the man behind Nomad internet.

      They know people will pay it, either if they want to stay or have no other choice. But because there's so many various ways to get internet on the road now, that works best for each individuals needs, in this day and age, we can go else where. Customers can take their money else where. I had a friend, who's dad said that the most powerful play you can make with a company is by taking your money elsewhere.
      If a lot of people are leaving T-mobile, that means they're voting. They don't want to pay a company who has no mercy on it's customers. They're too big to give a care if they're that rude.
      Also, good point at the end about "in this day and age, you would think someone could come up with a service that is good everywhere under all circumstances and situations." We did, most likely over 50yrs ago. Nichola Tesla found a way to supply endless amounts of energy for free. But he was defunded and his project destroyed. I forget the name of the project. It started with a "W". I'm probably misspelling this... Wydencliff Tower.
