The conversation with Ricky is one of the best examples of the Fallout dialogue system done right. I'll shut up now before a go on a half hour rant about the Fallout 4 dialogue system.
+Pingas Pearce It was horrible. It checked nothing but charisma, which meant dialogue went one of two ways, high charisma or low charisma. FO:NV checked individual skills where relevant so conversations could go a dozen or more ways depending on your build. And that's not even touching on the mass effect dialogue wheel restricting you to only four options, no more no less. That greatly limited your choices in some places and resulted in four options all meaning the same thing in other places. The wheel also resulted in you saying things you never would have chosen if you'd actually known what exactly your character was going to say. Thankfully the Full Dialogue mod solves at least that issue. Fallout 4 had a lot of good aspects. I loved the weapon and armor modding (though I missed weapon condition). I really loved the new design of power armor (though fusion cores drained way too quickly, thankfully mods fixed that). A lot of the companions were interesting, and a lot of the side quests and random encounters were good. But they seriously dumbed down a lot of the RPG elements in favor of FPS elements and a half-assed settlement building system. No traits, no skills, and simplified dialogue in favor of more running and gunning is not how I want my RPG to go. Mass Effect keeps infecting my RPGs and I really wish it would stop.

This was one of the more disappointing moments of the Honest Hearts DLC for me. The Happy Trails caravan had interesting characters with rich backstories I wanted to hear more about and I would have loved to hear their thoughts and interactions over the course of the DLC, but they got wasted within the first 2 minutes.

I'll be honest, the people from the caravan were way more interesting than anyone you meet in Honest Hearts beside Joshua himself. Wish they survived and could've used them as companions instead of the tribals but I get it, we didn't have any major tribal characters since F2 and they're a big part of the setting.
If only tribals were more explored in fallout 3 and 4...but for those games it don't exist, people are as intelliegent and grounded as someone from our reality
If you scare Ricky off wouldn't it make sense to then be allowed to take a follower? Since if the caravan is full, and one of the caravan runs off, isn't that an extra space?

I dig that intro style. That said, while Joshua Graham is a true badass among badasses, I cannot wait until you cover the Father in the Caves/Survivalist. That's my favorite character in this whole DLC.
This DLC was the reason I went to visit the real Zion. It was cool seeing some of the sights from the game. That place is really something to marvel at.
Strong Back and Pack Rat perks are really useful for this DLC since both increase the amount you're allowed to carry, especially on Survival difficulty where ammo has weight.
Oh, I didn't know Jed's dialogue changed depending the gender of your courier, hahaha, my courier is male and Jed doesn't even hesitate about saying "tighter than a virgin in her wedding night" lul.
Utah is my city seriously though, I love this DLC. Ogden (Jed Masterson mentions it) is my hometown. Rarely ever see that in video games, aside from The Last of Us.
Well I believe he's affiliated in metaphysics like morality, but I'm not sure. (I got that from one of his morality videos in the comments, so don't quote me on that)
Two years later and this comment has aged as well as the game it references. Nv and all the associated dlcs are all still able to be procured for under $20. A measly twenty bones for a game I've poured 2000 hours into since it's release. Truly, we're living on the best of times.
In late 2020, yep same deal here I got it for 10 or so dollars (although it was actually in my native currency, I just converted the value to dollars). Already on my second playthrough after like a month of playing the game, enjoyed it a lot!
He can survive in Fallout 4 if you don't kill him. He's one of the rich folks living near the Diamond City's Colonial Taphouse. Forgot who the name is, since it's been a while since I have played it.
@Oxhorn I reloaded that scene probably ten times trying to keep them alive. Would have been swell to learn more about their stories, but it's so well executed that you don't even remember those clowns in the end. Plus delving deeper into Zion by yourself makes it easier to accept the help you get once it comes. At least they each got fully realized dialogue trees before they died.
A wonderful DLC, looking forward to your whole series on it. Can't say I was sad to see Ricky go, but Jed and Stella felt like quite a loss when they were gunned down.
From what I remember this DLC is going to take a while. All your companions are supposed to die in that ambush. If you use console commands to resurrect them they just stand there with no dialog. You can't have any companions follow you into any of the DLCs in FNV. I guess that was a game design decision, just like not mentioning "Mormons." But it would have been so fun to take Cass along. Right now I'm playing Old World Blues. Can't wait to see you cover that. It will be a hoot. Thanks for the vids. Always the best.
28:40 I think the reason the Courier can't use their pipboy to get back, is that the pipboys work with maps made before the war. The Courier's pipboy showed an old route IN to Zion, which Jeb Masterson used as a reference to guide the group along, but changes in geography in the intervening centuries, made that route a one-way trip. The Courier could've tried to take a different path back, but that new path would likely have been long and very arduous, with no guarantee of water or food on the way. It's not so much that they "couldn't" find their way back to the Mojave, it's that they feel they would not survive the trip without someone familiar with the terrain and territory to guide them through it.
there's actually a "strong back" perk conversation option with Jed when he talks about the weight limit. there might also be onefor "long haul" if I am not mistaking.
i loved the line "i left my one of a kind plasma cannon at home" because at the time i was carrying the Q-35 and eveyr energy cell i could muster as my primary weapon, plus 1 spare plasma cannon and afew weapon repair kits in case i ran out of weapon condition.
Ah... Utah... Salt Lake... Mormons, er, New Canaanites? Hmmm.... Wonder if the temple survived the war... Even if yer not Mormon, it's still a pretty amazing site... TheHunter497 if you want to play them in order it's dead money, honest hearts, owb, lonesome road. The two best dlcs are old world blues and lonesome road. But this is a good dlc to start out with. Would recommend lonesome road last.
That ambush at the beginning is where things went south real fast in my play-through. I play stealthy sniper characters, and so I went in crouched, so went in everyone was labeled on the Pip-Boy in blue and I was hella confused. By the time I figured out what was what, everyone was dead except Masterson, but right as I went to attack, he took one more round and died. That left me with no other option but to kill everyone in the DLC, esp. considering I tend to take a shoot first, ask questions later methodology when it comes to seeing red markers on the Pip-Boy. So, yay me and getting the worst ending possible (I think) in the DLC.

I liked how they always had a different narrator for each dlc and the endings as well. I always missed my friends from the DLCs when I had to return NV.
Honest hearts is definitely my favorite DLC. Being a pretty spiritual person myself, I thoroughly enjoyed the redemption, the righteous anger, the mercy, the forgiveness... Just hit close to home is all. Plus I love the guns that were added. I have a lot of love for the 1911.
For real, A Light Shining In Darkness is one of the best pistols, the thing has a insanely high DPS if you have the Guns 75 skill requirement, and Gunslinger (2). Its better than the Mysterious Magnum in my opinion when you have the right player build. I wiped out all the legion in Fortification Hill with the thing.
@@magentuspriest What do you mean “Gunslinger (2)” there’s only one rank of Gunslinger in New Vegas. It increases VATS accuracy for one handed weapons by 25% I think. But yeah you’re right, it’s definitely the best gun in the game.
I loved the idea to do a caravan job with Cass and Rex but no we couldn't and the caravan dies leaving us to be left alone , oh well at least I got to explore Zion canyon and kick tribal ass and getting a nice ranger outfit too and made lots of Nuka cola and sarsaparilla drinks there lol

Just recently played through all the dlc again in new vegas. I love it all so much, imo it puts the fallout 4 dlc to shame, so much more interesting and story driven. Watching these is great shows me what Ive missed and all of the story Arcs! Keep up the great work Ox
11:30 ah yes my personal favorite quest in Fallout 2, simply because of how ridiculous it was, and because of the fact that it gave us an equation to figure out how good any fallout character is at sex based off of their SPECIAL stats.
Fun fact, even if you manage to save members of the Happy Trails Caravan, they still die. In fact they drop dead if none of the White Legs can kill them before the first part of the ambush is over.
Just started this on my high luck playthrough. If you killed Mclrafety Jed has unique dialogue If you have the sneering Imperialist perk you have unique dialogue options. You know if you're and asshole. But it is good to have to deal more damage to white legs
Your approach to the add-ons is excellent. Maximum lore, maximum plot, good game-play and great presentation. Not to say your other videos is less than excellent, but these are special.

Heh. The first time I played this, I didn't realize the characters across the bridge weren't a part of the ambush, so I eliminated them. Then, I spent my entire time wandering the DLC, confused why the quest marker was telling me to piss off back to the Mojave.
Just started the DLC today and the dude in the Vault suit had the number written right on the collar of the suit (Saw that during the dialogue) So maybe one of your mods changed the appearance of the suit (if you have any on New Vegas)

Due to the limited time of development that Bethesda gave to Obsidian, this game could be the GOAT, If they were given the good amount of time.

This DLC was the reason I went to visit the real Zion. It was cool seeing some of the sights from the game. That place is really something to marvel at.

Strong Back and Pack Rat perks are really useful for this DLC since both increase the amount you're allowed to carry, especially on Survival difficulty where ammo has weight.

Two years later and this comment has aged as well as the game it references. Nv and all the associated dlcs are all still able to be procured for under $20. A measly twenty bones for a game I've poured 2000 hours into since it's release.

In late 2020, yep same deal here I got it for 10 or so dollars (although it was actually in my native currency, I just converted the value to dollars). Already on my second playthrough after like a month of playing the game, enjoyed it a lot!

@Oxhorn I reloaded that scene probably ten times trying to keep them alive. Would have been swell to learn more about their stories, but it's so well executed that you don't even remember those clowns in the end. Plus delving deeper into Zion by yourself makes it easier to accept the help you get once it comes. At least they each got fully realized dialogue trees before they died.

None of the dlcs allow you to bring along a companion. Same rules as the fallout 3 dlcs. Fallout 4 dlcs are a different story.

From what I remember this DLC is going to take a while. All your companions are supposed to die in that ambush. If you use console commands to resurrect them they just stand there with no dialog. You can't have any companions follow you into any of the DLCs in FNV. I guess that was a game design decision, just like not mentioning "Mormons." But it would have been so fun to take Cass along. Right now I'm playing Old World Blues. Can't wait to see you cover that. It will be a hoot. Thanks for the vids. Always the best.
28:40 I think the reason the Courier can't use their pipboy to get back, is that the pipboys work with maps made before the war. The Courier's pipboy showed an old route IN to Zion, which Jeb Masterson used as a reference to guide the group along, but changes in geography in the intervening centuries, made that route a one-way trip. The Courier could've tried to take a different path back, but that new path would likely have been long and very arduous, with no guarantee of water or food on the way. It's not so much that they "couldn't" find their way back to the Mojave, it's that they feel they would not survive the trip without someone familiar with the terrain and territory to guide them through it.

i loved the line "i left my one of a kind plasma cannon at home" because at the time i was carrying the Q-35 and eveyr energy cell i could muster as my primary weapon, plus 1 spare plasma cannon and afew weapon repair kits in case i ran out of weapon condition.

I think... of course, I'm Mormon, so I'm a tad bit biased. This is probably the best dlc I've played... mostly because of the scenery... And Joshua, he's frickin' amazing!

TheHunter497 if you want to play them in order it's dead money, honest hearts, owb, lonesome road. The two best dlcs are old world blues and lonesome road. But this is a good dlc to start out with. Would recommend lonesome road last.

That ambush at the beginning is where things went south real fast in my play-through. I play stealthy sniper characters, and so I went in crouched, so went in everyone was labeled on the Pip-Boy in blue and I was hella confused. By the time I figured out what was what, everyone was dead except Masterson, but right as I went to attack, he took one more round and died. That left me with no other option but to kill everyone in the DLC, esp. considering I tend to take a shoot first, ask questions later methodology when it comes to seeing red markers on the Pip-Boy. So, yay me and getting the worst ending possible (I think) in the DLC.

I liked how they always had a different narrator for each dlc and the endings as well. I always missed my friends from the DLCs when I had to return NV.

Honest hearts is definitely my favorite DLC. Being a pretty spiritual person myself, I thoroughly enjoyed the redemption, the righteous anger, the mercy, the forgiveness...

For real, A Light Shining In Darkness is one of the best pistols, the thing has a insanely high DPS if you have the Guns 75 skill requirement, and Gunslinger (2). Its better than the Mysterious Magnum in my opinion when you have the right player build. I wiped out all the legion in Fortification Hill with the thing.
@@magentuspriest What do you mean “Gunslinger (2)” there’s only one rank of Gunslinger in New Vegas. It increases VATS accuracy for one handed weapons by 25% I think. But yeah you’re right, it’s definitely the best gun in the game.

Just recently played through all the dlc again in new vegas. I love it all so much, imo it puts the fallout 4 dlc to shame, so much more interesting and story driven. Watching these is great shows me what Ive missed and all of the story Arcs! Keep up the great work Ox

my personal favorite quest in Fallout 2, simply because of how ridiculous it was, and because of the fact that it gave us an equation to figure out how good any fallout character is at sex based off of their SPECIAL stats.
Fun fact, even if you manage to save members of the Happy Trails Caravan, they still die. In fact they drop dead if none of the White Legs can kill them before the first part of the ambush is over.

Heh. The first time I played this, I didn't realize the characters across the bridge weren't a part of the ambush, so I eliminated them. Then, I spent my entire time wandering the DLC, confused why the quest marker was telling me to piss off back to the Mojave.

Just started the DLC today and the dude in the Vault suit had the number written right on the collar of the suit (Saw that during the dialogue) So maybe one of your mods changed the appearance of the suit (if you have any on New Vegas)
