Haha I love the real world history they really did their research !!! Graham talks about the 45 automatic pistol . And it's design spanning 400 years ago ,, he's referring to john Moses browning designer of the 1911 WHO was ironically a Mormon from Utah , wow obsidian really done their research and as a gun enthusiast I'm impressed
To bad Oxhorn didn't do nearly as much research on this DLC as he did with the others leaving that bit about Browning out, and completely ignoring the Utes tribe that the state was named after.
I know I’m late but it’s not hard to google search “who designed the 1911 pistol” I have nothing against obsidian and new Vegas is my favourite game, but if you are going to appreciate them it shouldn’t be for their research.
Brother Graham, it is good to see you. With the Prophet dead after the White Legs' assault, The remaining Apostles have nominated you for the position. Brother Graham, will you accept our Lord's calling and lead us in this time of need, so that one day, we may reclaim our home?
Sorry to say so. But Joshua Graham is just inspecting guns, not reloading them. Pulls back slide => slide catches => empty magazine => looks down empty barrel => puts in same magazine.
He is inspecting the rifling in each pistol for internal damage- when he looks down the barrel. He has already checked that it is unloaded and removed the magazine, so no harm in looking down the rifling. :)
I guess they (the programmers) intended to show Joshua's extreme attention to detail or his total obsession, when planning a move. The more funnier way to look at it, is that the tribe aren't able to maintain the weapons properly, and he has to do it for them, slaving away in the back of the cave. ;)
Joshua Graham, kinda reminds me of Darth Vader. He was loyal and proud member of his tribe, joined Caesar's Legion, killed and done unspeakable things to people. Until he failed his mission and was then punish for his sins. Being burned alive awaken him deep inside his honest heart. To rewrite his wrongs and make his tribe and family proud.
Top 3 Voice actors: 3: BattleBlock Theater Narrator. Happy and silly mannerisms with some sneaky rated M jokes make him a blast! 2: Darkest Dungeon Ancestor. Dark and brooding with a dash of wisdom. Extremely atmospheric and quotable. 1: Joshua Graham. A soft, tender and slightly rough tone soothes the soul, reminding you that you are under his protection, but also reminding you that he means every word he says, for better or for worse.
I love the little anecdote about who created the .45 Auto Pistol. John Browning, the man behind so many iconic American firearms, and the inventor of the M1911, was a Mormon born in Utah. Such a small detail for history buffs but it really hits home.
Joshua is my favourite fallout character, barring my own beliefs. He's inspiring, reborn, protective, soft spoken. A man who once reveled in cruelty and evil, a man under Caeser, who is arguably the most evil man to rise since the bombs dropped. And after this, being reborn, literally tasting this own cruel medicine, he sees the error in his ways and seeks to love, protect, nurture these ignorant tribals, keeping these humble people away from the evil he once doled out so indiscriminately.
I liked him and thought it was interesting that some form of Christianity survived into the wasteland but the fact that it was mormonism made me roll of eyes. At that point just create a new mythology like immortan joe
Ian Berry I kinda noticed that too as a Catholic myself. He seems to place an emphasis on more orthodox Christian beliefs than some of the stuff that Mormonism has that’s unique to them.
Honestly while the debate about the form of Christianity is interesting, a few points. First most of what Mormons talk about with people unfamiliar with Christianity in general do keep to the general Christian views. Second Joshua specifically talks about one of his "people's" ancestors building the guns he is working with, and those guns were Designed by Browning, even if the rights to the models were sold to Colt later, and Browning was Mormon. And finally his comment about a "Light in the Darkness" does reflect a Mormon specific view around Hell in their teachings, as what most Christian followings call "Hell" the Mormons call "The Outer Darkness" which both the sinners that can't be saved and those that have been saved can be found, as while the ones that couldn't be saved are trapped their those that were saved can freely visit, and thus the saved found there are "Lights in the Darkness". Now that said Mormons especially from Ogden and the first settlement in Utah with Brigham Young are known to be very cruel in the dark parts of there history, in fact one of Brigham Young's top men was known to be so cruel he would be a perfect counterpart to Joshua before the First battle of Hoover Dam, and the criminal elements of Ogden were so bad they kept Al Capone from even attempting to expand into Ogden at least, Utah at most, So seeing Joshua as a Mormon is a subtle nod to the state's History those outside of Utah would almost likely never know.
He's my favorite by far too, and I have practically _all_ of his voiced lines in Honest Hearts committed perfectly to memory. That also speaks volumes about the voice actor who brought him to life (who Oxhorn actually did a livestream with not too long ago), truly one of the greatest of all time. Oh, and thank you for spelling that correctly @@FortunateJuice, glad to see it hahaha
Simple fact, Graham foolishly lets slip how much he cares about a man and the tribes, he then insults and threatens a lvl 50 badass with full kit. "Bold strategy Cotton, let's see how long it takes to scrape Daniel off those canyon walls."
Who else can't wait for The Full Story of Randall Dean Clark- The Survivalist? I have a feeling Ox's video on him will be amazing. One of my favorite stories ever told in a Fallout game
TheDarkSkull Used to watch Apple's channel all the time, actually. Gravitated more towards Shoddycast and then Oxhorn. His content is good but I really prefer Ox's storytelling
Premium Jargon Yeah, I agree. Apple is astounding as a comedy channel, with Oxhorn excelling in storytelling, while ShoddyCast is a decent mixture of the two.
great stuff! super depressing, tho'. i like how spoilers yo . . . . . the Sorrows conflated him and the New Canaanites' God, as if YHWH was tinkering with rifles in his down time after creating existence. pointing that out to...was it Daniel or Josh? it's a fun insight to deliver. "oh. huh. yeah i guess they would think that. i gotta work on my missionary-ing."
Joshua Graham wasn't reloading the 1911s, he is inspecting them, also showed good deal of gun safety (He locked the slide back, ejected the magazine, checked the chamber for any round. THEN looked down the barrel. Joshua Graham does have a similar story as Shishio Makoto form the anime Rurouni Kenshin. In that anime, Shishio was doused with oil and burned alive after a gunshot to the head. However they are very opposites. Shinshio is a major villain (and the getting burned alive didn't really change him)
Im glad someone else noticed this as well. Though, i read somewhere that joshua grahams character was meant for van burren and he was meant to be reviled by the tribes people, as well as still maintaining his cruelty. So that definitely would have been super close to shishio. I wonder if the writer for him was a kenshin fan.
He is just the fixer. if shit hits the fan, vader will show up and kick some asses. Tarkin is the real number 2. he is also in charge of the death star, not vader-
Oxhorn, you didn't delve into my favorite peace of lore about Joshua gram! Its little but its cool that the devs snuck it in. When the courier asks Joshua about his guns, he mentions that "It was a design made by a member of his tribe over four hundred years ago." Joshua is talking about "John Moses Browning" who was a real life famous gun designer and a strong believing Mormon (Which through other lore we find out that Joshua belief system is heavily based on Mormonism.) in the early 20th century. John Browning made many gun designs and patents but his most famous one was possibly the "Colt M1911 .45 automatic pistol" which is represented in the NV Honest hearts DLC as the ".45 automatic."
Grahm's warning about attacking Missionary Daniel reminds me of a story where a guy tried to attack four Samoan missionaries with umbrellas. I'm not sure how it ended but probably not well for the attacker.
Seeing as Samoans are, from some rumors I've heard in olden times, effectively immune to blunt strikes/fists and generally don't seem to give a flying f### about anything else, that guy most likely was very suddenly and very quickly reduced to a screaming, crying wreck who needed an ambulance ride.
Not specifically, but it is mentioned. Of course, if Obsidian or Bethesda identified those .45's as 1911's they'd have had to get permission from the manufacturers.
I mean I get that but I was saying was that oxhorn noted some theories about some of the tribes and not the pistol, but that's just me. But he might mention the pistols lore in the equipment video at the end of the series
McChazster he said this "this pistol was made 400 years ago by my tribe" he meant Browning the creator of the M1911 since both of Browning and Joshua Graham are Mormons.
It was a graphical glitch since my character was so far away. Textures do not fully load until you get close to them, but the camera zoomed right up into his face while I was still on the bridge. Game engine bug.
Jeffrey Stewart but where would he get them? He got the pistols from sheer luck, how the hell would he find enough rifles to arm an entire tribe of warriors in a canyon? Besides, all the troubles the tribes come across are wild animals and rival tribes, armed with the same type of weaponry or less, use what's at hand and not need it rather needing something you don't have.
The main reason I'm glad Interplay closed down and never released their version of Fallout 3 is because, in that game, the Burned Man was a crazy psycho. In FNV, they managed to make him one of the best characters in the franchise, with an extraordinarily morally ambiguous backstory. He has committed atrocities, but did so truly believing it was for the greater good. And his change of heart and story of redemption are genuine.
Winged Hunter256 Trust me, i am a native german speaker. And these languages are not as similar as people think. The Scandinavian languages are completly unintelligible to us.

Honest Hearts and Old World Blues are my most favorite of the bunch. Btw, funny story, my first time playing the Honest Hearts dlc, I was always sniping from afar with the hunting rifle with scope, upgraded bolt, extended mag, and JSP rounds and I actually thought follows chalk was a bad gay at first and killed him. I was confused and literally spent the next 6 hours killing the friendly NPCs who I thought were hostile. It wasn't until I saw the ending cut scene that I literally ruined everything, so I had to read a guide to find out that I fucked up at the beginning by killing Follows Chalk....and thus I felt like a total idiot. The next day I then proceeded to reply the whole story and find all the logs of Randal Clark which literally made me cry, and had one of the best days I've ever had and one of the most amazing moments in video gaming I've ever experienced. New Vegas is the best Fallout since the first 2 10000000/10
Jaime Perez at least fnv actually let u kill him. Not to bash F4 or 3 but here's how'd it would probably go in 3 and 4. (Snipes follows chalk) *Follows Chalk is unconscious* (attempts to kill Joshua Graham and all the other dead horses) *everyone's flipping unconcious*. I just thought this was funny to think about..
Scrublord Senior hahahahahaha the sad part is, ur absolutely right! Man.....it's a good game with SO MUCH POTENTIAL, and they squandered it pretty badly in my opinion. At least there's some very good mods for the game at the moment. My house was robbed like a year ago and my computer was stolen at the time, and I haven't been able to recuperate my losses very well. The cops here in Oxnard,CA are absolutely worthless, we have video footage of the robbery and in HD, and still they haven't ever caught the theirs or get ANY mine or my family's stuff. All I've been able to get is my younger brothers Xbox 1 cuz he felt really sorry for me.
My question is, why does Follows-Chalk pronounce it 'Kaisar' when he only knows of his existence through Joshua Graham, who pronounces it with a soft 'C'?
Chris Warman I noticed the same thing. I've never played Fallout but from what I've learned watching Oxhorn's videos Legionnaires pronounce Caesar as "Kay-zar" (which is the proper pronunciation from real history according to Oxhorn in his video on the Legion) while non-Legionnaires pronounce it "See-zer". Even Follows-Chalk pronounces it "Kay-zar" when one would think he learned the name from Joshua. My guess is when he renounced the Legion Joshua decided to start pronouncing Caesar as "See-zer".
Chris Warman All I can think of is the two languages that you would get Caesar from - Greek and Latin. High class Romans during Caesars time spoke Latin, which uses a soft 'C' (see-zar) but Greek was the common language which uses a hard 'C' (Kay-Sar). So since Joshua is descended from Mormons perhaps he decided to learn Latin? I don't know why that would be the case and it's a long shot. Maybe it was just overlooked.
tallman11282 Maybe it hurts more to pronounce it the other way? His entire face is completely burned, even his mouth, so maybe he's just going with the more comfortable option.
Chris Warman I'm guessing that Joshua used to pronounce it as all Legionaries do, but for one reason or another he decided to adjust his manner of speaking after leaving the legion. Possibly relating to his completely scorched face and neck.
Maybe Joshua didn't meet the tribe alone and had a Frumentari or someone like that with him. He was the leader of the army and leaders often delegate tasks for various reasons. Even if Bethesda wants to make us believe that a General has to do everything himself. Follows-Chalk also mentions Caesar and his army in a way that makes me think that he at least was part of it.
I am Joshua Graham... and these... are my weapons. They weigh 1.5 pounds, are equipped with custom heavy duty slides and fire custom high pressure .45 rounds. It costs 400,000 caps to fire these guns... or twelve seconds... Some Legionary assassins think they can outsmart me. Maybe. Maybe. I have yet to encounter one that can outsmart a bullet
*MAYBE* $4,000 Caps for special ammo and buying the mods for that description. That keeps okay with the joke. Now, a *Grenade Machinegun* and all it entails? THAT'S $400,000!
@@bigpigeon2384 the game will later explain it, but the tribals in HH hearts are a mixture of the Chinese and Dutch tourists that got trapped in Zion when the nukes fell. (They're also mixed in with Native Americans from rhe reservation ofc)
When Graham started talking about the Res and the visitors combining their languages and hearing the woman talk before talking to Joshua, some of the words she said had some German pronunciation in it (although the spelling was obviously wrong) Let me explain a little. She says "Owslandr zookuh Joshua Graham?" When, in German, I would say (directly) "Auslaender sucht nach Joshua Graham?" In English, "Foreigner (or Out-lander) is searching (or searches) for Joshua Graham?" Now, I had to add a word, but that's for the sake of keeping the grammar correct. But I mean, after however long they've been combining the languages, the pronunciation is going to be changed along with the grammar. But hey, that's just my input on the subject. Plus I don't have umlauts on my keyboard. I just live in Germany with my wife and have to learn the language. EDIT: I just looked it up on the wiki, and now I feel dumb for posting this xd
yeah, the visitors were probably German tourists. German pop culture loves native American stereotypes, especially the plains tribes like the Dakota and Lakota and Apaches. i don't really get why, but it's definitely a thing. i attended a lecture given on the topic, especially Edward Two-Two, who did...let's call them wild west shows? He did horse tricks, bow exhibitions, &c. He was a big dude and in shows fit the idea of a noble warrior perfectly.
Germany's fondness of the wild west dates back to the extremely popular Karl May youth novels published and written in the late 19th century, which also were also made into extremely popular movies in the 60's. As for the Dead Horses' language, it indeed is also influenced by the german language, as confiormed by Josh Sawyer, who speaks german himself.
Joshua Graham is an interesting character, its not everyday a game puts in Christian beliefs, its almost like another version of the old testiment back when the isrealis were battling against other abominations (fallen angels and humans children), for example the phillistines.
George Cortez he isn’t interesting because of his religion. He pretty much just brushes over it like “oh by the way I’m a new Canaanite and we believe in god” He is more interesting due to his past.
The "Res" should be the "rez" the Navajo reservation, which is the largest Native American reservation in North America and is east of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. We get tons of tourists here from all over the world which would account for the German, and likely other linguistic influences too. The rez extends north into Utah and east into New Mexico.
Oxhorn, I can truly say I'm thankful for you and your channel. Not only for the face value of what you provide, but also the emotional throwbacks and memories from my own playthroughs. Especially with your F3 and FNV and ESPECIALLY the oldschool ones. I cant imagine how time consuming this all is and how much work, but seriously, thank you because what you provide is well worth it to all of us.
24:36 Dammit, Oxhorn, you nearly gave me a heartattack, I was listening to this while playing Fallout 4 and I thought something on my computer had broken or unplugged itself.
Erandur is my favorite follower in Skyrim, and I find it really interesting that they have the same voice, because they have the same backstory. Joshua is a man of faith, changed from the cold, cruel man he once was. Erandur used to be a priest of a Daedric prince named Vaermina, prince of night terrors, but now is a priest of Mara, goddess of families.
I think some fallout new vegas content on ur channel would be great Nathan also amazing work your doing keep up the good work and f rockstar for not investing their time into bully 2
Interesting. Joshua pronounces Caesar incorrectly, like most of the non-legionaries, despite having been apart of the Legion. I wonder if he does it out of spite?
Issun McGoodmage I noticed the same thing.
Justin Ashman Actually it's true. When you take Kaiser meaning king in German it sounds closer to the Latin pronunciation of Caesar's name. However the Tsar or Czar meaning king in Russian is closer pronounced closer to the soft C. Either way works because the etymology of the word has branched outward.
"I survived because the fire inside burned brighter then the fire around me" badass af!!!! And I didn't know where the qoute came from until this video and i love it!!
I don't find threats to be believable in most games or films, but the threat Joshua makes is delivered so well by the voice actor that I want to believe him.
Cappy I think it's my favorite. Utah is a great setting and it's really fun finding the hidden stories. Check the caves for caches and terminals if you want to find out!
I'd recommend playing all of the DLC's, they are gems in the gaming industry. IMO, Dead Money is the best, but I'd recommend doing that DLC at a later level, like 20+.
I like how you narrate the dialogue options. It immersed me and really gave a strong sense of personality for your character; as in it really was your character talking.
Joshua Graham such an admirable character, him alone with out even talking about Randal Clark (which him self deserve a video) makes honest hearts a great dlc.
23:51 I love the attention to detail that graham goes into that the Colt .45 was developed by “one of my tribe almost 400 years ago,” because one of the designers was John Moses Browning, was a member of the Latter Day Saints when we designed the M1911
I love how all of the DLC have subtle references to Ulysses from lonesome road, like when dr borous said another courier has visited the big mt in old world blues, and when Joshua graham said that you weren’t the courier he was expecting, and when Christine said she had met another courier in big mt during dead money.
There should be a mod where starting “trouble in Zion” spawns Graham to relentlessly pursue you across the Mohave. It doesn’t matter where you run, or where you try to hide, _The Burned Man will find you._
If anyone is lenient about the laws and customs of the Legion it's Caesar. "No technology because that makes men weak" motto, while he still has an autodock in the back of his tent.
Joshua graham, a man who literally spent years of his life on the shoulder of a man many would understandably compare to the devil and now spends the remainder of his life with the scars to show for it, nurturing and protecting a tribe of people from that same mans reach. Joshua is one of the few people I’d not only let preach to me but would happily listen for hours
Something that the devil used for evil God pulled a uno reverse card and used it for good. In a fallen world that is hanging on by a thread Joshua has faith that there is something better beyond the grave im pretty sure most people wouldn't be able to see that especially within the fallout universe
Being a devoted Christen is why I absolutely love joushua Graham him spreading the gospel or "the good news" translated from Latin (correct me if I'm wrong plz) that makes me happy that Jesus's love lasted the bombs

@@VilaToro64 The Bible is the best-selling book in history, and you can generally find one in each home in America, and each hotel room. In fact, I think the Fallout series greatly underestimates the presence Christianity would likely have in post-nuclear America. Of course religions would continue to come and go, and old faiths would fracture, but the moment when a society is just beginning to get back on its feet and coalesce into something larger, like we see in Fallout 2 and New Vegas, is precisely when organized religions would become more socially important than they would be for tiny isolated tribes or huge continental governments.
Oxhorn! This is my Favorite DLC ever! Being a Mormon myself I caught most of the references! I gotta say, the developers really and I mean really did their homework. Truly the perfect blend. From what Joshua said, he might be referring to the Navajo Reservation.
Sorry to say so. But Joshua Graham is just inspecting guns, not reloading them. Pulls back slide => slide catches => empty magazine => looks down empty barrel => puts in same magazine.
EEDIR yes lol its looks like he is inventorying the guns
Still badass. Leave no gun unchecked and with bullets...
The more funnier way to look at it, is that the tribe aren't able to maintain the weapons properly, and he has to do it for them, slaving away in the back of the cave. ;)

The Warden I agree, the amount of background and depth to his character is awe inspiring.
The Warden he’s my favorite too! So many inspiring qualities, like being a made up videogame man.
Joshua Graham is my favorite fallout character ever. He's principled, consistent, dedicated, and is a total badass.

Shinshio is a major villain (and the getting burned alive didn't really change him)
it made him more crazy. He killed a women who loved him just to get at kenshin.
Im glad someone else noticed this as well. Though, i read somewhere that joshua grahams character was meant for van burren and he was meant to be reviled by the tribes people, as well as still maintaining his cruelty.
No mention of the creator of the M1911 and how John M Browning was a Mormon? Dang it
Not specifically, but it is mentioned.
Nicholas Cross But wouldn't it make sense for the gun to use 9mm instead?
Raime The Fume Knight the pistol in real life, the M1911, is chambered in .45 ACP, but there are of brand variants that are chambered in 9mm
McChazster he said this "this pistol was made 400 years ago by my tribe" he meant Browning the creator of the M1911 since both of Browning and Joshua Graham are Mormons.

His original description had him attack anyone while you have him as a companion. Vastly different from how he is in NV

Chris Warman
All I can think of is the two languages that you would get Caesar from - Greek and Latin.
His tribe...John Moses Browning, he designed the 1911 pistol. Man was a firearm Genius and he was a Mormon, like Joshua Graham
I am the heavy weapons Mormon.

When Graham started talking about the Res and the visitors combining their languages and hearing the woman talk before talking to Joshua, some of the words she said had some German pronunciation in it (although the spelling was obviously wrong) Let me explain a little.
She says "Owslandr zookuh Joshua Graham?"
When, in German, I would say (directly) "Auslaender sucht nach Joshua Graham?"
In English, "Foreigner (or Out-lander) is searching (or searches) for Joshua Graham?"
Now, I had to add a word, but that's for the sake of keeping the grammar correct. But I mean, after however long they've been combining the languages, the pronunciation is going to be changed along with the grammar.
But hey, that's just my input on the subject.
Plus I don't have umlauts on my keyboard. I just live in Germany with my wife and have to learn the language.
EDIT: I just looked it up on the wiki, and now I feel dumb for posting this xd
useful none the less
ouslander = foreigner
I was stunned when the tribal started speaking German-like words like Owslandr. I'm glad someone already pointed it out.
yeah, the visitors were probably German tourists.

The "Res" should be the "rez" the Navajo reservation, which is the largest Native American reservation in North America and is east of the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
Honest Hearts in my opinion is one of the most interesting DLC's as it gives lots of lore and information on what happened further East.

Agreed. Voice actor did a great job and he had some fantastic lines.
Keith Szarabajka also voices Herschel Biggs in L.A. Noire, which is great since Oxhorn coveres that series as well.
Uhh the legate is too scary but Gram 1v1 is TERRIFY THE HELL OUT OF ME I DID THAT
It’s hella mesmerizing
12:43 Did he say dead legs? must be a new tribe
Finally I've found a comment about it I've been searching for like 20 minutes
Damn
@@DamageJackyl why didnt i think of that wow im dumber than a bighorners droppings
You can find fish at Camp golf's Lake near New Vegas just so you know Oxhorn
BLOODHAVEN72 don't forget lake Mead with the rebreather
Gotta love that quote 'I have been baptised twice, once in water, once in flame.'
Btw, the beds could either be You Gui or Bighorner hides, most likely Bighorner
Am I the only one who was proud/impressed to see Joshua Graham preaching the good news and checking 1911's?
Being a devoted Christen is why I absolutely love joushua Graham him spreading the gospel or "the good news" translated from Latin (correct me if I'm wrong plz) that makes me happy that Jesus's love lasted the bombs
*Christian
HAHAHA You believe in a supernatural being!
AirCooledMan2006 sooo?
@@DarDarBinks1986 The natural couldn't create itself prior to its own existence, therefore the creation had to be supernatural
@@lionofthecherubim4486Complete bullshit. Your argument amounts to "I don't know; therefore, magic". Or "I don't know; therefore, aliens" if you're a $cientologi$t or Raëlian.
Your videos are inspiring me to go back and play what is honestly my favorite fallout.
Joshua Graham was one of my favorite characters in Fallout NV, if not all of Fallout. Great quotes to reveal his personality and drive.
If your Courier has a high enough Intelligence they can actually piece together the language the Dead Horse Disciple of Canaan greets you with when you enter Angel Cave, letting you can reply in kind.
What does she say and what you say in reply?
@@jacobridgeway2849 You basically tell her you mean no harm and she replies with something like "You know our tongue; smart outlander." It plays out the same from there but she seems a little less on edge.
Dang, Bethesda/Obsidian layin’ down the Gospel somewhat accurately.
That’s such a rare thing in modern media.
Definitely dude makes me wonder do they have bibles or did they get destroyed when the bombs fell
Probably why it's my favorite piece of video game media ever.
Nice to see some respect for religion in the comments section.
Oxhorn! This is my Favorite DLC ever! Being a Mormon myself I caught most of the references! I gotta say, the developers really and I mean really did their homework. Truly the perfect blend. Faith and Work. Joshua Graham puts it very simply and honestly. "But we Can't expect the Lord to do all of the work."
Out of all the games, Joshua will forever be my favorite character.
"The camp of the dead legs"
