I've only watched a few of your videos, but I've been on the brink of tears for each and every one of them.
You are so raw, and the way you speak is purposeful, genuine and I feel every single word and sentiment you say.
I've started filming videos of my hikes on my iPhone, and I'm having such a blast going out into nature, and creating content that I enjoy.
100% agree about a short video being so much more meaningful and impactful than the best photo in the world. After this realization, I've started including the people I'm with into the shots, because I love catching them off-guard and in the moment, and it adds so much more to the video as a whole.

So true man. Lovely footage. I rarely take a 'proper' camera when I'm out with the kids as it takes me out of the moment and i get all precious and uptight. Mucking about with your iphone frees you to try stuff and sometimes even gives you ideas to recreate for proper shoots. One type of camera I do allow myself to take out on family time sometimes is an old SLR 35mm film camera. There's something about the simplicity and analogue nature of just looking through the lens, snap the frame and then move on with your day without the ability to review, analyse and agonise on a digital screen. Then you also get the excitement of waiting for the photos to get developed ☺️ Thanks again for another gentle and sincere video.

As we all know, the operator and even at least the minimum amount of intention and paying attention while filming, will make any camera work for capturing the moments just feel right. Thank you for sharing your realization and encouraging what's in front of the lens is what's most important.

Yes man! We all get so caught up in the gear and how what we create will be perceived when in reality it’s about the story being told. What you’ve shown all of us with what you created was that at the core of telling a good story the gear doesn’t matter, it’s what you have and how you use it to tell the story that matters to you. I too feel the same way you do/did about gear and letting that get in the way of creating. Keep killing it man, you are doing such an incredible job helping people think differently about the things they do and the reasons behind them. I feel like I’ve been trying to do this same sort of thing with my channel and message and it’s encouraging to see that I’m not alone in my thoughts and feelings. Love you too man!

I'm fine with my phone cam too, it's not great, but can work ok.
My issue is not having a computer, I have to edit on my phone on KINEMASTER.
So I'm limited but I thought I'd still make videos with whatever I can, edit with whatever I can.
But then came the pandemic and now I'm stuck at home for ~2 months.
Oh well, hopefully it'll be relatively safe to travel in public transport by late 2020 and I should be able to film then.

This touched me on a lot of levels. Funnily enough, the second video I published on my newly started channel was also a "short film" that I made entirely on my iPhone. It is also the first ever proper video I've ever finished. It feels amazing to leave all the technical terms and equipment aside, that way, you can remove distractions to create a video that you genuinely feel for. The fact that I got to visit the video again every now and then, especially with the Pandemic, really showed me how valuable videos are. The sights, the sounds, they're all so precious now that we're unable to get out of our home here in Singapore.
With that being said, I love your works Danny. You're one of the few inspirations that made me decide to put myself out here on this platform. I don't plan to go big, but I do want to go far and share my experiences with life. Thank you Danny. Stay safe and all the best!

I started to feel the same a couple years ago. You can’t remember exact feelings, emotions and small details of your life. I try to open a camera on my phone as often as possible. Videos are “Live memories” !

Another great video man! I found your channel a few weeks ago and I quickly subscribed. You are really good at voicing the internal struggles of filmmaking which in my opinion are far more important to understand over the external stuff. This video nails it perfectly. Keep doing what you’re doing🙌🏼

My dad gave me my first phone when I was 6, for emergencies and stuff, it was a little nokia but it had a camera, and on that Christmas I wrote the letter to whoever-you-believed-in-at-the-time, I asked for a panda robot, and they gave a stuffed Panda, and it was my best friend (I was an introverted kid) and I took tons of selfies with him, and that was my first experience with a "camera", unfortunately all those pictures are gone but I remember taking those, and I have my little panda in a box. This afternoon I'm gonna recreate those photos 13 years later. if you read this, thank you for reading and... I love you

First video of yours I watched (and subscribed) and so agree. 90% of all of my videos are shot with my phone. That way I can live the adventure, the experience, AND make a movie at the same time. When I get out the "camera" and all the other gear then I am just making a movie and not living the experience, the adventure, the trip. A time and place for both of course.

I love your channel, nearly every time I watch one of your videos I'm persuaded to your way of thinking or entirely understand how you view things. I am a filmmaker too, so I've experienced that "barrier" even on film shoots and outside of work. When I was in New York with a GoPro or with my GH5 shooting on the streets of Canterbury, I feel so conscious of my gear and people looking at me. My iPhone 8 can also produce a great image on an Osmo that I've used in student shorts so they definitely shouldn't be looked down on.

thanks again for sharing your awesome and beautifull thoughts. I realize the same thing when I look on my photo albums. I always hussled with all the lenses and batteries etc. I wish I had some videos taken. I guess it's also about the moment I was in (new camera (many, many) new lens) and never thought about it this way. After the years of fail and error I guess you find your own mindset. And now I bought C200, so let's see how long I will hussle to do those epic holiday videos 😂 love ya!!!!

I loved this video. I occasionally shoot some narrative, documentary-style videos for my Instagram stories and people are often surprised that they were shot directly on the phone. Honestly I think that’s because I just take the time to compose, light and edit the shots well with whatever’s available at that moment. If I were to whip out my Canon M50 the whole process would immediately lose spontaneity. People are used to phones casually filming, not so much DSLRs.

I recently shot a short movie for my girlfriend who's stuck on the other side of the world, and I really enjoyed the simplicity of taking my phone down to the beach and filming away. No one cared I was filming and life just played out before me naturally. I'm glad I left my better camera at home. Great vid and great tips!
And I should say, my 11 Pro handled highlights amazingly well. I found the main issue was when it couldn't get enough light and it cranked the iso down, and I couldn't see that on the phone screen... but it didn't ruin the moment. I still had tons of footage to work with, because it was so easy to shoot.
