Honestly, I need to genuinely thank you. My grandmother tried to teach me for years. I also tried to learn via other videos and books/crochet kits. Could never do it. A few months ago, I saw this video when I wanted to try and learn again. This is it. This is the video that somehow made it "click". Now, I am crocheting far beyond beginner status just a few months later! I make wearables, blankets, accessories, amigurumi, you name it. I do it every day and it is genuinely my "thing" I've tried tons of hobbies, etc over the years but none have ever been quite like crocheting is for me. It's therapeutic and I am genuinely so proud of myself all the time. My grandmother is no longer with us but she would be so proud too ( though maybe a bit peeved that a 60 second video taught me hahah). Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I send this video to anyone asking me how to learn.

I'm a teen and I do not live in my home country. My mums side lives in my home country. I remember in childhood seeing my grandma doing crochet, she was making a teal sweater for my cousin or for me, I can't quite remember, I was quite fascinated by it as a 5 year old, but never asked her to teach me to do it. My grandma was also really good at sewing clothes, specially traditional clothes. I've been living abroad for many years, so I wasn't that close with her, but I knew she loved me very much, and she would always pray for me. Which I'm really greatfull for. Sadly enough she passed away recently in June 2022 and you mentioning your grandma reminded me of her doing crochet.

The way you hold the yarn is the correct way but not every one feels comfort so they hold it differently. I was taught the same as you by an older lady I just met when I was 16 yrs old. I'm 61 now.

Maaan, I understand how to crochet. I've watched a plethora of videos. I see what I'm supposed to do, I understand the concept... But every time I go to crochet, it never works for me. I start the first line, easy, can do that in my sleep. As soon as I go to make the second row to continue on, It. Never. Works. I've tried different yarn thickness, different needle thickness, weird combos. Nothing! But I can knit... I've knitted multiple scarves, I'm working on a bag, I could do a blanket but ik I don't have the patience for that. 😮‍💨 I just wanna crochet cute animal stuffies... IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?!?! 😭

    • @SaraTheHappyOne

Could the problem be that your chains are not loose enough? If you make the chains to small and/or to tight it is next to impossible to continue the next row. For me that was the biggest struggle when I first began to crochet because I would hold my working yarn really taught instead of letting it run free. I still have to remind myself to loosen my grip from time to time. Anyway, wish you the best of luck on your crochet journey!

Crocheting is magic. I just can’t get it. I understand intellectually whaat needs to happen, but making the little hook actually grab the yarn, pull it through, let go of the yarn? Magic.
Knitting, on the other hand, makes perfect sense, and I could do it all day. My sister and a friend are both mind-blown by knitting and crocheting makes sense to them. Isn’t it interesting how our brains work?

    • @topazgemfairy

I started crochet cause I wanted to make my own stuffed animals and found a love for it! Now I’m making my own clothes, blankets and I can’t wait for more and when I can finally make an amigurumi! Definitely it’s interesting to see which one (crocheting/knitting) different people gravitate towards!
