Good lord that was gorgeous. The view from the porthole window was enough to make me desperately want to be there. The music was perfect, the lights of the street/fair, the gulls! The architecture was really cool to look at as well. Sixteen minutes was not even close to enough, I could watch this forever. Hope you had a blast! Thanks Steve :)
I remember going on a church weekend with my brother when I was about 9. We walked along the front and my brother brought roller skates from this little shop. He took me to an old abbey. I had tooth ache while I was there and he got me to swill my mouth with sea water which in retrospect probably wasn't the best idea. Was terribly homesick at night time but it was lots of fun and I miss those days. 30Yrs on I should perhaps take my son there. Thanks for the upload makes me realise what they mean by bittersweet memories.
When the arcades were darn cool i used to love going here twenty odd years ago. Lived overseas for some time now so great to see Scarborough still looking how i remember it. Brought back some memories watching this. Cheers Steve. Hope you enjoyed your stay there.
That really looks like a very nice spot indeed and your hotel window was in a very good location for shooting video. The colours and clarity on the video were outstanding.Would definitely include Scarborough on the list of places to see when Vicki & I finally go on our holiday :)
I been there on holiday. Scarborough seems to be quite a peaceful seaside town, there might not be that much to do in the place but it has nice views and countryside.
I think some control measures are necessary to help alleviate the swooping and the mess. The RSPB says that culls should only be a last resort, and there's little evidence of control measures being enacted prior to this call for a cull.
If the campaign for a seagull cull in Scarborough (for which there is a lot of support - the local paper had nearly a page of supporting letters, and one letter against) achieves its goal, there should be a significant drop in seagulls, their swooping at tourists and residents alike, and them nicking food from people on the seafront.
very sentimental for me. I remember walking along that front in the evening with my parents when we used to stay there in the 70s. shame the arcades have lost their charm now
There was so much that could be seen from up there, some of it I wouldn't upload for the sake of people's privacy, and some I didn't record, coz it was just plain obscene :S
It's a 25x zoom. I tried videoing the seagull, but only had my iPhone 3GS on me at the time, so the footage was rubbish and you couldn't see what was happening.
I have one with commentary at /watch?v=ZJNIpEuEhOg There are others taken in Scarborough on my "Travels" playlist, though I think that's the only one with commentary. The playlist is at /playlist?list=PLCJ4LxrOlAk-2vdKK3ZTKSGHTrSAfAEoo
That'd be a very sad day in my opinion. Seagulls are a fact of life when you live on the coast. It would also be completely pointless. Do people think there aren't enough gulls on our coast that a load more wouldn't come swooping in to fill the gap? It's utter lunacy.
OK thanks, obviously you like the place. I should probably visit next time i`m back in the UK and have a look for myself, it certainly looks like a nice area.
Well, it's obviously not retained its original Victorian interior and grandeur throughout, but where has? It's had to modernise, renovate and operate in a climate of cheap foreign package holidays, as well as stiff competition from other hotels, modern and old. So it's kept open and operating to a price point. To be fair, a lot of people now, just want a clean bed for the night and a functional room/hotel, as long as people have WiFi and that view (which can't be altered) it's a pleasant stay, if it was demolished and replaced with a modern Holiday Inn, the pricing would be the same and similar room decor/standards. As it is, with the Futurist destroyed and not restored, it's our main building/feature, apart from the castle.
@@ericgeorge5483 I wouldn't put anything past this council, we thought we had it rough in the 80s, when we looked back to yesteryear. Look back now, the 80s were the glory days!
@@ericgeorge5483 that's the council for you, tried to yuppifie a traditional seaside resort, all it's done is make it mainstream, boring. They are out of touch, British people go to the coast expecting traditional old fashioned facilities and entertainment, that's why they go. If they want ultra modern apartments and facilities, they go abroad. Fancy knocking the corner cafe down and building yuppie flats and a Nisa Local? Mind you, every city and town have the same big business shops now, Lidl, Aldi, Subway, Costa Coffee, KFC, McDonald's, Sports Direct, Holiday Inn etc. All your service stations have the same rip off chains in them, exactly the same.

This is the town i grew up and still currently live in, and i would just like to say, thank you, for making me realize the beauty it holds.
Another beautiful Scarborough video.
I lived in the town from 1982 until 1986 and I just loved it. I still visit old friends there as often as I can, its my favourite place.
Oh wow what a place to stay. My friend used to have a porthole window in his room, so cool.

Scarborough looks like a great place. Someday when my wife and I visit England we will have to spend a night there.
Stayed in Grand hotel 10-12 times & will stay again.
Turrets are great to stay in.
Yeah, I love the turrets. Possibly the best hotel room I've ever stayed in :D
my beautiful home town. miss it so much
Me too 😭
Great video thanks you . Only my Mom have bad memories from Warsaw past when you shows these iluminator windows ...
Well done for not catching the Norovirus... The "Grand " hotel is famous for its outbreaks here and most people in the know would stay elsewhere.

Such a great choice of music matches the hotel and the town hope you see this comment
Brilliant video Steve. Going to Scarborough soon. Second time this year !
Man I would love to be there. place looks awesome. Thanks for sharing Steve.
Great vid, we are going to Flambourgh head a week today. We so love it up there and when the kids finaly move from home I think that we will go.
I been there on holiday. Scarborough seems to be quite a peaceful seaside town, there might not be that much to do in the place but it has nice views and countryside.
It's my favourite place to be, and the views from that particular room, especially with this camera... a weekend just wasn't enough :D

Thanks. I had a great time. Could've done with twice as long there, but couldn't afford more time in that suite :)
Do you get the same feeling about it time is a dubble edged sawed

great stuff steve
Thanks for awesome townscape! =) Have you done any live commentary there?
It's a great place :)

It's called Drone In D by Kevin McLeod.
My wife and I spend our engagement and honeymoon in the room exactly 2 floors below this one :)

What's the room number?
No idea. This was recorded years ago. But if you view the hotel from the bridge, it's the turret on the right, at the near end.

I disagree, but tastes vary, so it's all good.
What is Scarborough like to live in?
I don't know. I just go there on holiday whenever I get the oportunity.
OK thanks, obviously you like the place. I should probably visit next time i`m back in the UK and have a look for myself, it certainly looks like a nice area.
Don't - I have just moved away!
haha!
I live in Scarborough as a student, i am in love with this town, will be guttered to leave when i graduate next year
that was my honeymoon sweet
For a room that is "Not cheap" it looked incredibly basic. Typical of the Grand I guess.
