Thanks. Brought tears mate, this is a reminder of happy childhood memories. To have those days back : Dad alive, mum beautiful, the three of us still kids. And all on holiday in what was a magical place to us.
I was born in Scarborough but moved down to London when I was about 10, but we always went back for summer holidays to see aunts and uncles and it was always hard leaving my cousins, I used to help my uncle Jim on the speedboat that did rides from the lighthouse.
Amazing memories I am a Scarborian born in Scarborough in 1947 and could remember most of the places especially the old Rowntrees department store where I worked when I left school.
I have watched this over and over again and enjoyed identifying some of the places! We spend most Sunday’s afternoons enjoying this town, and when I’m eating my fish and chips sat on queens parade looking at the north cliff I can slip back in time and imagine what life was like then! Thanks a million 👏👍
This was when the town had genuine class and prestige. Its lost all its sparkle these days and is known for a completely faceless sea front filled with crappy discount shops. Such a shame because it has the potential to be great again if only the council get their shit together.
Scarborough used to be my second home, not now, sadly, disabled, but these views are utterly charming... even Scarborough council couldn't make them TOTALLY unrecognisable.
Thanks and now they walk around with their eyes on mobile phones and see nothing! Will be back to Scarborough next week. We don’t want this place destroyed!
I wonder if my family was there My grate granddad was a fisherman in Scarborough and and my grate uncle was the local bobby there my granddad was a game keeper in the Dolby forest My dads family all lived in Scarborough This was around 1900-1912 era
Great video. Fascinating photos. Its still a great place but consecutive councils and so called town planners seem to have tried their best to destroy it...
Hi Micheal and Jack's granddad, Very interesting to see how much has changed. Would you give me permission to have some A5 photos printed up? I'm not sure how they would come out but I think these are well worth sharing in and around Scarborough. No costs to you - just the credits! Thanks. Linda x
@@Christbp So it is! Thats amazing, but it looks like North Marine Road is just blocked off by a wall after victoria park where the hollywood plaza is now. I wonder if it was or if its just the camera angle?
A photo doesn't tell all the story though... those first photos don't tell us about the dirt and smell, of women with a dozen children, men lost at sea or weather too bad to go out and earn a living. I'm sure I will be criticised for this post; these photos give us a small insight into social history but shouldn't be looked at through rose tinted glasses.
It's lovely to look back at old photos of Scarborough

This is hard for me to watch.my amazing town has died.just a lingering memory of what once was.
But surely it was never like that during your lifetime?
Now it's full of smack heads

Where is the place at 7:31?
Bowling Green on North Marine Road
@@Christbp So it is! Thats amazing, but it looks like North Marine Road is just blocked off by a wall after victoria park where the hollywood plaza is now. I wonder if it was or if its just the camera angle?
@@lxdimension I think it's just the camera angle, there looks to be a wall that runs parallel to the green each side of the bowling green's building
superb
Whats the music ???
lufc chat the music is a rearrangement of Of Pachabels Cannon

In black and white....ironic!
Where's the proof that it's Scarborough?
it is. i was born, there. thats the proof.
i live here, some of the architecture & roads are the exact same, i can tell where some stuff is despite being centuries before i was born
I've just seen a road I used to walk up with my Mum and Auntie. Definitely Scarborough.
