Fabulous video. I was fortunate enough to live in Scarborough in the early 80's and today its still my favourite place. Its lost many attractions, however its a town full of charm and character and this video does it justice. Thanks for a great video.
I always come back to this video of Scarborough Pat .I and my school friends use to skive off school on the marine drive back in the 70s getting soaked.Great stuff!!!
Thank you Patrick for giving me the chance to see Scarborough again. I spent 3 happy holidays there with my children over 40 years ago and it was one of our favourite places. A bit bracing at times but the scenery and things to see make up for that.
Thank you for watching Maeve. I've only ever been to Scarborough twice, last time was when I shot this in 2015 and before that was probably around 1974/75 when I was 9. Lovely seaside resort, a definite favourite :)
One of Britain's greatest sea-side resorts, I'd say, Patrick. I've always liked the town and it's headland with the castle and the two bays either side. There are plenty of attractions including the cliff tramway, and the town itself always has had some real good shops. I recall back in the day that there used to be a zoo near the North Bay, but whether it's still there or not I wouldn't know. Yes, I bet you were really pleased when you found the caravan site that you went to with your family when you were young. A very pleasant video to watch Patrick, many thanks, and let's hope that the place hasn't changed too much since 2015.
I've only ever been to Scarborough 3 times in my life, and this was the last time. I always liked it when I visited. It was a real bonus finding that caravan site, brought back a lot of memories. Glad you enjoyed Ffranc, thanks for watching 👍
I am not kidding when I say this was an absolute joy to watch.Scarborough sells itself because its such a pretty place but your video emphasised this even more. I can't wait to visit my friends over there when this nightmare ends and its safer to do so. This video made me smile from ear to ear. Great job, thanks so much.
Really delighted to know that my film was able to bring some joy for you. Thank you so much for your lovely comments and for taking the time to watch :)
It was nice seeing old scarborough again....I lived there for a few months whilst recovering from a serious motorcycle accident , really enjoyed this vid
Very much enjoyed this nostalgic look back at Scarborough are used to go there as a young child with my parents and we always used to go to collies cosy camp on the North Bay now a small Housing estate
Excellent narration of your past experiences linked to Scarborough and caravan life. Lovely catchy soundtrack to hear for your film. Some faint memories of Scarborough link back to my days of entertaining as a vocalist in a summer resort there. Nice memories for you too of your family.
Many thanks Shanita. This is actually one of my favourite soundtracks. So you sang at a resort in Scarborough? It was nice to return here and find the places I remembered as a child. Thanks for watching 👍
Hello Patrick, congratulations, you did a very nice and nostalgic movie. I was there in 1973 at 16, I passed marvelous holidays and I returned 3 times with my school. I keep in my memory some wonderful souvenirs. Bruno 62 now from PARIS
I stayed in Scarborough last summer on the South Cliff. Absolutely loved it. I particularly liked walking in tbe Cliff gardens early in tbe morning. I conquered my fear of lifts in the cliff lift . I never used the bridge. I couldnt reach the castle, it was just too steep. The tourist seafront reminded me of Southend where I grew up, so I walked the bay and took the lift back up.The star map was fascinating. I so want to go back.
Scarborough a holiday place for my family in the 1960s and early 70s till I went to Uni and then more interest in walking long distance pathways than just seaside places.Castles awed always great fun with the history.Enjoyed trip Thanks 2020 September 25th.
I forgot to mention in my original comment how perfect the little piece of music is at 17:23 when you find the caravan park. It just fits the scene wonderfully. What a truly fabulous video. Thanks again.
Thanks for that Jeff, that's nice of you. I'm pleased you like that as it's one piece of music I'm particularly proud of. Thanks again for the kind comments :)
One of my favourite films of the 47 I'v watched so far. Partly because of the memories I have of visiting this place, and partly because this is the lovliest music to any of your films. I'm glad you eventuality stopped putting credits to Bob Morgan and Martin Roy,you deserve all the credit Patrick,to anyone not in the know they are pseudonyms and Patrick does every single thing you see and hear, what a guy and what a talent. Pete.
I'm pleased you find this one of your favourites Pete as it is also one of mine, for the same reasons you have mentioned here. I enjoyed filming in Scarborough because of my memories there, and as you have kindly said, I was also very pleased with my musical score on this one. Many thanks again :)
Great job. Very professional presentation of Scarborough. I enjoyed it very much. I was able to get back to Scarborough last year for the first time since I moved to Chicago 12 years ago. I can understand the nostalgia. I spent many a childhood holiday there. I have a special connection to the Brontes so it was great to see Anne mentioned too. Looking forward to watching more of your programs. They are better than anything on TV over here.
Thank you so much Paul for the lovely comments! Glad you liked this video of Scarborough, one of my favourites actually. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Patrick :-)
It was very interesting, this brought back memories for me too as I used to go here with my parents 49 years ago we stayed in a lovely hotel near Peasholm park. We had several fantastic holidays here 😀
I Felt your happiness in this film Patrick , theres something really nice abut visiting some of the places of our childhood ,Once again this is a place myself and Lee have on our to - do list , but were planning on travelling over the east coast by rail but staying a night in Scarborough , so i am looking forward to taking in some of the wonderful views , That castle and churchbeing top of the list but i saw so many different views ,that you couldnt take them all in - in one day ...Avery enjoyable film Patrick As usual ,and nice to see some images of you as a boy mate ...take care Frank and Lee ,
There is so much to see in Scarborough, hopefully you'll get there soon. I loved revisiting it after so many years and was particularly pleased I found the caravan site. I'm grateful and really honoured to see that you have been watching one of my films nearly every night, thank you so much Frank and Lee for that, it is much appreciated. Cheers, Patrick :-)
I cant honestly say Patrick , that walking ever appealed to me i have been a postman for 22 years and it seemed a bit of a bus mans holiday thing to do but over the last couple of years i ve started to really enjoy getting out and about visiting places , enjoying the scenery and the history of places , each week end we try and get to somewhere different , only local granted but its not the diistance for me its just a case of spending time with Lee , capturing some wonderful memories for the future too , something to look back on mate ...Which when you think about it , is something your doing , youve created and are still creating a wonderful body of work ,to look back on , what a great legacy too Patrick , As for watching your films its our pleasure to catch up with your travels as you make them so enjoyable ...So Once agaiin thankyou for sharing .... Frank and Lee ...
I recently discovered your channel via the truly excellent Wye Valley and Forest of Dean walks, so I can answer your question at 13:30. In the '70s, the road trip from Chepstow to Scarborough (where my maternal grandparents lived) was seldom less than seven hours. It was a long haul but so much to enjoy on arrival, like the Harbour Bar and Treewalk Wonderland in Peasholm Park.
Many thanks for your kind words and for watching. It's been 8 years since I've filmed this, so I had to remind myself of the question at 13:30. Thanks for that 👍
Thank you for making this video which I have only just discovered on You Tube. Brings back alot of happy memories as my family holidayed in Scarborough every year when I was growing up. I have an almost identical photograph of the Spa taken back in the early 70S. Glad you found the caravan park.
Glad you enjoyed it and nice to know it brought back some memories for you. Yes I was very pleased to have found that caravan park! Many thanks for your kind comments and for taking the time to watch :)
Enjoyed Scarborough and the Spa with great walks views again a Church, shod favourite for the family and ,after on walking tours with hiking friends they joined me before we decided. To go on the Pennine way one Summertime. the distance great days.
Have to get my Scarborough fix as I can't visit my friends over there due to Covid and there's no better way to do it than by watching this fabulous video. All the memories of the place just come flooding back and the music is wonderful too. No wonder this is your most watched video Patrick and its my favourite by a mile.
It's one of my favourites too and a lot of that is because I'm particularly pleased with the music I created for this. Great to know you enjoyed this Jeff and thanks as always for your kind words and for watching 😀
Thanks for this amazing video. I have some wonderful memories of Scarborough from the 1970s. Beautiful place. You've video is stunning and informative. Great work.
Hi Patrick, l can't tell you how much I loved your video, we go to Scarborough quite a bit but to follow you around was great. It seems we have missed out on such a great deal of sights. Your video was very professional but very down to earth. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. X. 😊😊😊😊🐱🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
What a great video again. Thanks Patrick. I really enjoy the way you reminisce about past journeys and your life. I hope your Mum is doing okay. I saw her in one of your other videos. I'm on my second viewing of this one. Much better than TV on a Saturday.
Thank you David, kind of you to say so. My Mum is good thanks, get down to Somerset to see her when I can. Thanks again. All the best. Cheers, Patrick :)
I came here for the first time in 2012 in September it was sunny I ended up in hospital due to a health issue in mid October that year I love Scarborough and I I’m sure it help pull me through and have been back many times since then a 5 hour drive from scotland but well worth it
The perfect tonic for these shut-in days. Scarborough is just 15 miles from where I live and I miss being able to pop in for a day - mostly to watch the football team. As a morbid sideline, Valley Bridge is popular with suicides. Try some of the small market towns in the area like Malton and Pickering next time.
Well Patrick ,again a excellent video , like you traveled down to Scarborough from Kilmarnock ,but in the 60s in my mini and back in a day with my pal Clarke those were the days ,and holiday's then and later in the 70s with my children when we were married " love Yorkshire " Just one point it was bombed in the First World War I believe not the Second World ( Probably then too )as did Whitby by German battle ships which i think are referring too . As we say in Scotland " Haste ye back"
thanx so much for this short film. its my fave on scarborough. i know people say that scarbados is full of chavs (or NEDS as we call them in scotland.....non-educated delinquents) but its still my fave destination.
Love all your videos Patrick, the easy going presenting style like a friend talking to you, interspersed with subject information, great filming and editing, even the music which I believe you write and play yourself. I often turn the tv off and watch a few of your films,I'v said this in a previous comment but I truly believe you should have your own tv travel show. At the end of each one I feel like retiring to the pub with you for a pint at the scene of your location, the sign of a great presenter. Thanks again and have a great 2019.
Thank you very much Pete for your lovely comments, it's really much appreciated. Yep all the work on these films is all done by yours truly and I try to come up with a different piece of music for each film. Actually my theme for this Scarborough film is a personal favourite. Anyway thanks again Pete for the kind words and all the best to you for 2019. Happy New Year. Cheers, Patrick :)
Watched this yet again as it is such a great movie and always brings back fantastic memories for me. At 17:26 there appears to be an Austin Maxi..Your grandparents car perhaps? No question this is your most watched video, you should be really proud of this one Patrick.
Thanks for giving this another watch Eric. Yes that was a photo of me with my Mum outside our caravan with my Grandad's Maxi. Thanks for all your kind words Eric, much appreciated 👍
Well produced and a touching moment at the caravan site. Just an historical note: the German naval bombardment was during the First World War, in December 1914. The castle walls were hit, the lighthouse, St Mary's church and parts of the town, including the Grand Hotel. 17 civilians were killed.
I love scarborough I went lots of times in 2019 and 2 times last year. I can't wait to go again. Its 5hrs by train for me but I love it. Have you been to whitby
Ya welcome I really enjoy watching every one even Scarborough one I love that one I enjoy how ya tell people the history about were ya go I like that u are the man I hope to see around some time ya freind Darren
Patrick that was wonderful, loved the old photos and I'm so pleased for you that you found the old caravan site,I'v just come back from a few days in Scarborough,I went for the cricket festival but also visited all the places in your film,I'v watched it before but it was no less brilliant to watch again, that's one of the things I love about your films, you can watch them time and time again but it was especially enjoyable as I'v just come back from there,I was reminded of it with your tweet saying it had reached 10,000 views, congratulations mate and very much deserved, special mention to the music in this too, fitted perfectly and I'll be humming it the rest of the evening, looking forward to number 120,I hope your success continues to grow and grow, thanks so much, Pete 👍
Thanks for giving this another viewing Pete. I never really understand why certain films of mine get more views than others, but no matter as it's certainly great to see the high figures especially when you reach 10k views. Glad you liked the music. This is one of my favourites actually. Sometimes I compose a theme and it's ok, but nothing special. However, with this I found I hit exactly the right notes (if you pardon the pun) and it just worked really well, luck more than anything really. Hope you had a wonderful time in Scarborough. Thanks again Pete. Cheers, Patrick :)
What a good video. I lived in Scarborough for 22 years left in year 2000. Still has the memories you captured yourself thank you.
Many thanks for your kind words and for taking the time to watch, much appreciated 👍

Patrick that was wonderful, loved the old photos and I'm so pleased for you that you found the old caravan site,I'v just come back from a few days in Scarborough,I went for the cricket festival but also visited all the places in your film,I'v watched it before but it was no less brilliant to watch again, that's one of the things I love about your films, you can watch them time and time again but it was especially enjoyable as I'v just come back from there,I was reminded of it with your tweet saying it had reached 10,000 views, congratulations mate and very much deserved, special mention to the music in this too, fitted perfectly and I'll be humming it the rest of the evening, looking forward to number 120,I hope your success continues to grow and grow, thanks so much,
Pete 👍
Thanks for giving this another viewing Pete. I never really understand why certain films of mine get more views than others, but no matter as it's certainly great to see the high figures especially when you reach 10k views. Glad you liked the music. This is one of my favourites actually. Sometimes I compose a theme and it's ok, but nothing special. However, with this I found I hit exactly the right notes (if you pardon the pun) and it just worked really well, luck more than anything really. Hope you had a wonderful time in Scarborough. Thanks again Pete. Cheers, Patrick :)
good video i live in scarborough
Thanks and thank you for watching :)
I live in scarborough,i love it
👍
Pity you don’t have a family. As I believe your children would have loved to go there with you 😊☺️🙂
I'm sure they would. Thanks for watching 👍
Unfortunately the council has now knocked the beautiful old futurist theatre on the seafront at Scarborough down and replaced it with a ferris wheel
☹
