I discovered Alcest with "Spiritual Instinct" and it have been my entrance to their breathtaking music and all of their albums. Alcest have become my favorite band ever since.

Amazing video, cant believe how underrated this channel is
Sapphire and Sur l'ocean are easily contenders for my favorite songs ever and I completely agree with you on that Ecailles is their best album

Means a lot to hear you say that! And yeah, Sur l’ocean is the most beautiful thing they’ve ever done

I second that. I'd also add that I can't believe that this channel only has 575 subscribers and so many UA-cam channels with worthless content with a zillions of subscribers / views. Robbie, keep up doing videos like this one!

Haha I have a sentiment for Kodama too, I remember how I found them by accident whilst looking for the other kodamas and just falling for it

Did you know that ”Percées De Lumière” from Écailles De Lune was composed for Amesoeurs but since the band split up before it could be in their discography, Neige released the song first on the Les Discrets / Alcest split EP.

Interesting. I must say that Shelter is my favorite album. Yes it doesn't have some of the black metal blasts of the other albums but for me there are some of their best songs there, like "Voix Sereines", "Shelter" our "Délivrance". Kodama is probably next. It is the one that flows the best and offers a good synthesis of what they can do.

That’s fair. Everyone has different favorites

Shelter is (at least for me) one of those albums that you don't really get until you give it the umpteenth listen in a particular setting - and suddenly you just feel it, the connection suddenly just is there. for me, it was during a train trip through a thawing spring-winter countryside, and despite listening to it sometimes here and there, suddenly I was weeping and thoroughly feeling the music. Ever since, Shelter has been such a big Alcest record for me, quite possibly my favourite, although I love them all in different moods and settings. Alcest is all about the feel and the spirit of the music I think, although apparently (I think it was a comment in Neige's instagram or something) Neige is slowly warming up to upping the production as well thanks to Winterhalter's persistence :D

10:35 Alcest finding their niche was destined to come given that the band was created by Neige

Their 2010 album is their peak.
    It’s the quintessential
    Alcest album hands down.
    I don’t like Deafheaven,
    never have, never will.

Tristesse Hivernales actually pretty good in my opinion especially how old it is

What I can say about SpirInstinct's issue is that the songs don't have as much... development, like Kodama does, some of them felt a bit too much single-riff-based for me
_(still can't beat Metallica's through the never with that haha)_
Though it's definitely a nice album anyway
