Les Chants De L’Aurore is very similar in sound to Écailles de lune, which is by far my favourite Alcest album, so I am absolutely stoked by it. Loved every track. This is definitely going to be my second favourite album of theirs after a few more listens.
Great review, only thing I disagree with is saying they've gotten progressively softer with each release. 2014s Shelter is the poppiest thing they've done and they followed that with Kodama that had some heavier moments back in. Still great review.
There was this strange moment when i heard "L'envol" in this part a few minutes in that was this wild "holy" moment, and every time i hear this abum it comes back to me
I agree with your take on this 100%. It's really great, and I love it, but it does get a little bit one note by the time you get to the end. That said, I like all the songs individually. It only becomes an issue when listening to the whole album.
It seems like it has a mix of all their previous work, plus some new stuff. It's great! I do prefer Spiritual Instinct and Kodama, but this album did not disappoint and will likely be my album of the year.
Great album! They have been on an upward trajection since shelter! I need to re-listen to shelter. I initially did not care for it upon release. Not because it was all shoegaze but because I thought it was just a little one-dimensional.
Great review! Best release date for this album. And on the opposite side of the rainbow you have an also incredible album from Ulcerate to darken your day 😂
I've fallen off of Alcest, but I really enjoyed Les voyages de l'âme, so maybe I'll use this album as a re-introduction. I have a couple shoutouts as well. Anyone who is a fan of Lamb of God should check out the new album from Montreal death metalers Derelict, and their album Versus Entropy. Also, for those amongst you looking for some excellent stoner doom, I present Classic Songs of Death and Dismemberment by The Ghost Next Door. Last, but certainly not least, check out the album The Formless Fires by the incredible one-man melodic death/black metal band Kvaen
5:50 just wana say that this is absolutely false. The drums are maybe like 5% black metal, it’s very heavily rooted in jungle beats and other genres of music, that’s what makes them special.
bruh the way she talked about this record sounded like a borderline 5, which caused me to actually be surprised by the 4 lol. anyway, amazing record, might be a 5 for me personally.
Am I the only one who doesn't really enjoy it when bands go softer, mellower and more accessible with each subsequent album? I can't for the life of me understand why these traits are automatically associated with terms such as "growth", "maturity", and "progression", when there's plenty of examples of bands that, over time, changed their sound drastically in the completely opposite direction, and I'd argue that they grew, matured, and progressed as a result. Gorguts and Blut Aus Nord come to mind.
I'm still surprised that Metalheads give a shit about Alcest. I just can't get into it at all. Seen them live as well and was bored to tears. To each his/her own I guess, greetings from France.
I listen almost exclusively to metal, and I find them the exact opposite of boring lol, there are a lot of basic boring bands in the metal scene. Have you tried the following songs (some of the more 'metal' ones) : Ecailles de lune pt 2 Percees de lumière Faiseurs de mondes Là où naissent les couleurs nouvelles Je suis d'ailleurs Oiseaux de proie Le jardins de minuit Protection
Komorebi 木漏れ日 in Japanese is the word for the feeling of beauty and wonder when you look up and see the sun's rays filtering through the trees.
Karaoke is Japanese for tone deaf😊
Already on my second listen. Alcest is always worth the wait and this is a great way to enjoy the summer solstice
Thank you for existing, being awesome, beautiful, and for your compassion for music.
Riley wearing a woods shirt! Perfect for an Alcest review \m/
Huge fan of Alcest. Love the new album🤘Great review! You nailed it.
Thanks for the awesome review. I had missed this album release and this made me go check it out. Wow what a gorgeous album, absolutely breathtaking!
I've been a casual fan of this band for a while and I found your review super insightful : ) Love the way you break everything down
Love the tunes and vibes from Alcest. Gotta give this new one some spins. Vive la France! 🇫🇷
Nobody does blackgaze like Alcest. ❤
Pretty sure Ru Paul carries the torch pretty well too
@@shredward666 Haha! I see what you did there.
@@princessolmeca2933can we all agree that this is a terrible genre descriptor 😂
@@shredward666 Yeah, you're right. I think "Post-black metal" sounds better than "blackgaze," anyway. 😂
@@princessolmeca2933 The "gaze" part comes from shoegaze, though, which is different from "post".
Great review, but also love the Woods of Ypres shirt, one of the greatest Canadian bands!
Album is fucking beautiful. Felt like I was floating through the first listen.
Never did I think I’d see Alcest on Banger. But one of your faves is Fluisteraars and damn if they are not strikingly similar.
Nice to see you at the festival.

Fuck yeah Alcest rules. Top notch Blackgaze.
One of my favorite bands
Love this band, so excited for this album
I haven’t listened to them since 2016 in Colombia. I can’t wait
Love the Woods shirt!
I’m so looking forward to seeing Alcest in Madchester.
Great shout-outs \m/ \m/ Ulcerate is right up my alley!
Every new ulcerate is better than the last. amazing.
Hey i recognise your woods of ypres shirt awesome band .
Already on my third listen. This album's just great.
Great review, only thing I disagree with is saying they've gotten progressively softer with each release. 2014s Shelter is the poppiest thing they've done and they followed that with Kodama that had some heavier moments back in. Still great review.
You saw Panopticon? Nice! I love what I've heard of Alcest but I need to dig into their discog more.
Awesome review as always 🙏🤘🤘
Shitter-ton is so much cuter than metric-shit-ton! Not into the album but that doesn't mean others aren't. Great review!
Anyone know if the Vinyl of this album should come with an insert with lyrics and credits?
Hey that first demo, what’s it called again???
Tristesse hivernale
Alcest fuckin rules
There was this strange moment when i heard "L'envol" in this part a few minutes in that was this wild "holy" moment, and every time i hear this abum it comes back to me
Fortress Fest was incredible. Such a damn good time.
Saw them back in 2019. A magical experience

Can't wait to check this out. They remind me of Japan's Envy.
More Riley please🤘
Will definitely check this out off the back of this🤘

I enjoyed this album a lot! Alcest are the Black Gaze Masters
Nice Album!!
Very enjoyable🤘🤘🤘

Top album of the year, so far the best one of this year i love alcest 🖤

Beautiful album, Alcest music gives life more meaning!
Nothing is like Alcest nowadays

Thunk u
Niege had a NDE that’s why he is very spiritual.
Prefer their latest "Spiritual instincts" better, the new one would be a grower I guess.
Fans of the band will enjoy, but this album won't win over any new fans. I personally wish Neige used his epic harsh vocals more on this, as well.
FIRST!½
Alcest always 5 out of 5 skulls
Not my cup of tea. Skip...respectfully.
I'm still surprised that Metalheads give a shit about Alcest. I just can't get into it at all. Seen them live as well and was bored to tears. To each his/her own I guess, greetings from France.
They have great atmosphere imo
Ironically you answered your own question with the last sentence.

@@EricAxel36 I am willing to give it another go. I'll check those out. Yes, there are many boring bands in every sub-genre of Metal.
nah their last two albums were better
I have to agree. Loved Kodama. Spiritual Instinct has a strong first half. Ecailles is very strong, and Voyages has a couple great songs.
Those eyes are scary
