Some people let me know that the audio in this video only comes out of one channel. To help make the video more understandable, I made subtitles for the video, so use them if you want.
same, I love the concept of the genre. it makes perfect sense soundwise, especially with more ambient stuff like burzum, though I have yet to find any blackgaze that I actually enjoy
As an old dog who´s been into Shoegaze for 30 years, I have to agree that those guitars could only blend with one badasss hardcore genre! So, a perfect match in my book!!!
The thing I think makes blackgaze so good is that its always up to interpretation, every band in the genre has something different to offer and it varies depending on influence and geography, blackgaze is definitely a genre that has a lot to do with culture but even though culture varies due to geography bands are still connected by attributes and characteristics through music, blackgaze is a genre all about unity and community and it's beautiful, I myself am the guitarist of a Blackgaze band called Ocean Eater and our sound varies from other artists but that doesn't prevent us from connecting with other bands
Good video. I agree the Harakiri For The Sky isn't really blackgaze but I also agree that they are a band that needs to have as many ears listening to them as possible so I appreciate their inclusion on here.
Love damian so much I love damian so much I want to be there such good projects so much to get into. Damian also has experimented a lot in raw depressive-su*cidal black metal with left alone... which is also so damn good. I love damian's music god I am so obsessed!!!
Hope some other hemispheres get some love too! Shyy from Brazil, Dopamine from China, Onryo from UK/Japan and Australia's Austere have been highly impactful and at it for years
Thank you so much for this informative and well structured video! It wasn’t just a bunch of names thrown around but supported with a lot of context instead! The reason I became interested in this genre is because I am a huge Sleep Token fan and their song Vore really stood out to me. From what I have heard this fits the description of blackgaze pretty well and the song has been described as such! i will check out the playlist and hopefully end up with some more amazing music to listen to although the satanic elements are making me uncomfortable tbh (I am aware that this is art and not meant to be taken literally for the most part at least)
I'd throw Karg, a side project of Harakiri for the Skys singer, into the ring. In my opinion, Karg is an even better version of Harakiri for the Sky, though lyrics are mostly german, sometimes even straight up austrian-german, which can be very hard understand even for us germans
And my Grunge, Thrash and Black Metal buddies back in the 90s used to tell me "Shoegaze´s dead!" "It´s just too weird" lol! Weeeell, 30 years later... The few, the proud...The Shoegazers!!!
nice video man, enjoyed it a lot. just letting you know the audio for your voice only comes through the right ear, idk if that's a personal choice, but it was a little distracting to me personally. keep going dude, good stuff
Thanks for letting me know about that! I'll admit that I hadn't paid any attention to the audio channels when I was making this. Plus, I didn't use headphones (I live alone) so it makes sense that I would miss it. I'll be sure to make the audio more balanced in future vids.

Altar of Plague's Teethed Glory and Injury is one of my favorite albums and a style I've never heard before, that mix of black/industrial/post is otherworldly. I've never really heard another band sound quite like that...Anyone know any similar bands/albums?
great video 👍 gonna have to toss a few suggestions in here as well if you really like the genre - unreqvited, violet cold, eldamar, wounds of recollection, Mesarthim, sylvaine, show me a dinosaur,
Black is my third metal subgenre and still probably would be if I weren't some friendless basement dweller utterly fucked over by the world. Unlike most black metalheads, I never did have a problem with blackgaze, which might be because I also listen to a lot of indie shoegaze
It's a nice vibe. I dig it. I also love shit like Immortal and Dark Funeral. And even more fringe black metal sub-genres like DSBM. There's no harm in experimentation and pushing music to do new things. In fact, quite the opposite. Nobody wants to hear the same album with a different name a billion times for thirty, forty years. Music has to evolve over time to keep from growing stale. To change a bit so the old can remain legendary and not grow tired by being endlessly reiterated and so the new things that come out that do fit the bill of "trve cvlt" black metal don't feel stale from oversaturation.

Couldn't have said it better myself
I like black gays.
Shoutout lil nas x
atmospheric black metal and shoegaze go together like pb&j and i love it. perfect melancholy and harshness.
Nice video, I'm more into shoegaze and alt / grunge, but its cool to see genres/subgenres blending together
Glad you liked the vid! Yeah, it's super cool to see

Hey, anything to get people listening to them!
Don't forget Karg, older band by HFTSs singer which is more melodic and atmospheric but really great
great video dude
i love blackgaze and this video was very fun to watch.

Neon is great. It got me interested in the genere.
So much bands and albums to discover... Love it ! Thanks for help me discovering this genre :D
I recommend Mortifera’s Vestiia Tenebrd Mortifera with Neige on vocals. This is when Neige started to sound like the blackgaze we hear in Alcest.
I’ve heard that name before
I loved this video Rob! Easy to understand and to the point. Keep up the good work.

Hi there! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video. The songs I included do not have any satanic themes, to my knowledge, although maybe I missed something.
Cheers for the heads up, gonna dive into all this stuff. Great vid thanks
Katatonia Brave Murder Day is the most important blackgaze/doomgaze album
@@INCRYPTIDFORM Katatonia has always been good, but their stuff before they stopped growling is insane

The first blackgaze album i ever heard was Jord by MØL and i think its still one if my favorite bands in this subgenre

I’d recommend Autumn Nostalgie’s first album, Esse Est Percipi
Will check out

For me Fen are the best band in this sub genre and one of it's longest serving, Epoch is an absolute masterpiece.
thanks for the playlist! nice vid too man

probably here due to the fact that I listen to a fuck ton of black metal.

cool video man, thanks.

Do you know artists similar to Kokeshi ? 😢
You accidentally called "sun bat her" "sun bather"
Always preferred pyramids in this style, like blut aus nord meets shoegaze from texas, with members of the sound of animals fighting and the autumns.
This is amazing... thank you.
i thought the video is going to be about how to make blackgaze music

blackgaze means something entirely different when you're at the club
Rheia is my #1 all time :)
You just had to mention Rhea was released in 2016....
Fuuuuck im getting old. FUCK.
You forgot burzum
Atmo Black, not Blackgaze
Burzum is some of the first genuine black metal, it predates any fusion with shoegaze by a lot

why is it mono?
Because I didn’t know how to make it stereo
Not a single example of the sound? Lame.
I thought you were going to talk about rapping over shoegaze 😂
Now that might actually be a fun project in the future
ever heard of SALEM? they have some stuff that mixes rap and shoegaze...its awesome they are my all-time favorite band forever.
