I have a complicated relationship with Arkham Knight. There are things that I liked, such as the improvement to combat, better gliding, a badass Batsuit that actually looks terrifying, and actually exploring Gotham City instead of a re-skinned Arkham City map like Origins was. (Don't get it twisted, I still love Origins.) But, there's also things that I absolutely hate, like the overabundance of tank battles, the misuse of the Bat Family, the entire story should've been about the League of Assassins' shadow war instead of Scarecrow talking about fear for the 1000th time, and the damn Joker sub-plot is massive plothole. And I still maintain the opinion that the Arkham Knight should've been Damian Wayne instead of Jason Todd.
what joker sub plot he's literally a hallucination seems every single person missed the part of the game when batman gets exposed to scarecrow's new toxin
The first Arkham game I played was asylum, around the time when Origins came out. After trying those two I was excited about the next entry. When I saw gameplay on UA-cam from DashieXP, I ran out and bought Arkham Knight for PS4 that very minute. It was also my birthday, and it was raining. I stayed in all day and played it. I loved it.
its good to see more compilations , any excuse to rewatch your videos is welcome 👍 i would love to see that some sort of "ranking all batman games" if you are still interested in it
I think the whole consensus from the fans is KTJL is that’s not canon and best to make it stay that way. Honestly hoping to see Arkham Shadow when it comes out, the interviews from the fans with the creators you can actually feel the passion for the series and their game. Do I have high expectations for said game, no. Don’t have the console and not going to hype itself for me. What no do expect that it will definitely be better than KTJL which isn’t that hard, but I’m happy to explore more of a post Origin’s Batman in this game.
I also had the thought where I was like, oh, why didn't they just fill the tanks with people. But on a recent playthrough I realized the whole plan was for the scarecrow toxin to cover the whole city and the goons had designated safe areas to wait it out in. The tanks were unmanned because they planned to basically go underground so they would need the tanks unmanned in the meantime, was part of the plan the whole time
I played AA in 2011. Like Borderlands, there was so much I didn't play for ages on 360 even though it was my main console from 08 til 16. What a game trilogy. I never played Origins but Blackgate was a lot of fun
There's a few batman lines from various media that have always stuck with me. Arkham 1 and 2 are great games, but the line that will always stick with me is from city when protocol 10 is active and batman wants to leave to save Talia, but Alfred stops him. "Batman must save Gotham."
There's a mod you can download to get the Joker in Asylum. It's takes downloading the dlc and then patch editing your save. It's not too hard if you use a walkthrough
I dont understand why rocksteady didnt let paul dini cook , i admit that hush isnt my favorite batman villain but I trust paul , he gave us good stuff with batman the animated series along with the first two games . I guess this serves as a lesson of how sucess can get to someone's head and make them think that they can do no wrong.
I heard that game’s lore actively contradicts whatever the Arkham continuity set up. I feel like Rocksteady just attempted to tie it to the Arkham series for the sake of marketing.
The Arkham series never had a downfall, until the last game (Arkham Knight) it was always on top of everything, I think the games that are coming out now are spin offs but not the normal series, so the normal series never fell
The only thing I didn't like about Arkham Knight was the Arkham Knight boss fight. I felt everything was fine. The bosses fights were all varied and different, better combat, movement, you weren't in the Batmobile as long as people said. However, I do prefer the atmosphere of Arkham Asylum more.
My quick takes on each of the games: Asylum is still my favourite inn the series. It's very focused and to the point, which is why I prefer most more linear games over open world. City was incredible when it released, but I find it to be a bit of a chore to get through now because traversing the open world feels so much slower than I remember. Still great, though. Origins was kind of the black sheep when it came out simply for being a prequel, and I remember a lot of people not speaking highly of it. I thought it was decent, even though Joker was revealed to be the main villian, which still bugs me to this day. Knight was awesome when it came out as well, but replaying it really shows just how much of a relance there seemed to be on the Batmobile, which I didn't notice when I first played it, and it started to get bothersome with how much it was required (especially during that Deathstroke boss, when that boss was amazing in Origins). I loved the game, though, and thought it was a cool ending to the series. All of these games are incredible, but Asylum is easily my favourite because of how few issues I have with it.
considering the series ended with Arkham knight and that was excellent and there were absolutely no other games that had the same batman again there was never a fall.
Played all of these at launch (minus Origins which I've had on my backlog forever) and all of them were excellent even if a bit flawed. Asylum was one of the most incredible games of it's year, 2009, where I felt that generation of consoles finally started to realize their full potential. I remember City coming out right before Uncharted 3 so that I managed to finish both of them despite real life getting more and more hectic, speaks a lot to their quality. I legit only got Knight because a friend of mine got a free code with their new graphics card and didn't have an interest in it, the launch was rough but my system played it fine thankfully. I never 100%ed any of the games but have always had the urge to give it a try, even if my age it's a very tall order.
It's not over people, new game coming this year. Arkham Batman should be amazing in VR. A full length game with stealth, combat, detective areas and traversal.
you really believe that YOU REALLY WOULD GIVE THEM MONEY AFTER THEY BUTCHERED THE FRANCHISE people like you are the reason gaming is dead they deserve nothing and they should get nothing and nobody is going to buy VR just to play dead on arrival attempt at keeping the brutally murdered franchise relevant
@@baki484 "How many people care enough to buy the headset" Well that is what Meta is banking on, this game getting people into VR that is why they funded it, this along with so many good games coming out and a cheaper Quest 3 coming out this year. A quick glance at the VR community will show many long time Arkham fans like me very excited for this game.
@@Dhampire1976 This game has nothing to do with Arkham VR that was a different studio and it's a less than 1 hour game with no combat from nearly 10 years ago when VR first released. This is a full length game (around the same length as Arkham Asylum) from the studio that made Iron Man VR. You might not be aware but VR has changed dramatically since the early days.
What I like about Arkham Knight compared to Arkham Asylum in Arkham city is the free flow combat is so visceral compared to the previous Arkham games it really looks like Batman is beating the ever loving crap out of the goons. He goes up against and it’s just so fun to watch and execute, a combo.
for people that aren't absolute comic nerds, the reveal was a surprise and the Arkham series are undisputedly fun to play, comic fan and typical gamer alike. all 3 stories are great, and if everyone wants to diagnose everything and not just enjoy those things, everything objectively sucks.
Back in April I got the Arkham collection for a $5.99 PSN sale. Played asylum and city and loved them so much to the point where I bought the original versions for PS3. Despite return to Arkham being my first time playing the games I actually like the og graphics more and deleted return to Arkham off my PS5 mainly because it took up way too much space 70GB total combined. In May I got a PS3 copy of origins off Amazon for like $24 and liked it but the lack of polish overall made it not as good as the first two. And Arkham Knight which I started and finished in June. I completely understand the disappointment but I loved it and so far is my favorite Arkham game mainly because the gameplay felt like it was at its peak just playing the game felt amazing and very polished. I actually like what they did with the Batmobile and kinda liked the tank battles but I feel like how much you like the game will depend on how much one likes or tolerates the Batmobile and the story but despite its flaws I even liked the story. After playing all of the main Arkham games I can proudly say that I’m an Arkham fan though I’m not very interested in Arkham Shadow given that I’m not into V.R. games so I haven’t been following it much. Sorry for typing a whole paragraph😂 doubt anyone will read this.
1:07:32 wouldn’t this be an unfair criticism? because 1. origins wasn’t made by rocksteady and 2. they (rocksteady) had 4 years to improve on city’s gameplay. of course you could’ve addressed this after my time stamp comment but idk yet
To be fair, in my eyes, the tru Arkham series never went down. But when a company tries to continue a franchise by connecting a new game with the older one, and fail, that’s where misconceptions begin. Honestly they should’ve just let Arkham Batman alone and branched off into a different timeline. Why did they have to do that anyways? Batman’s journey in the Arkham universe had a good ending. Leave him be!

I remember back in batman arkham city days where after the reveal that you can play as catwoman , robin and nightwing , the fandom saw the possibility of rocksteady being in charge of a dc universe game franchise. I personally thought that we would get a teen tians game after arkham knight , just a way to test the waters on playing as a metahuman before we get to the superman game that everybody was begging for .
honestly i know they made entire VR promo about bruce having nightmares about killing bat family and turning into joker so that's why he keeps them away in arkham knight but i feel like they actually should have been utilised much more the game itself feels 8 hours too short, so much unused content and actual crime scene is used only once in entire game maybe instead of focusing on arkham militia thugs saying that they have boyfriends they should have focused more on actually making the full game
Origins takes place at least 8 years before asylum based on dialogue in Arkham knight, the dialogue makes it seem like it’s rounded down, you could easily put 10 years between them and since Harley was an intern during origins maybe she goes to work someplace else after the game but starts working in arkham years later because of the impression joker left in her back in origins, so the continuity is not as convoluted as it looks.
Arleen was the best Harley imo. Controversies with Tara aside, I already never liked her Harley. Tbh I'm glad we're getting more VAs doing Harley, even if I don't like every new take I hear I'd prefer it than hear the same voice in EVERYTHING.

(Don't get it twisted, I still love Origins.)
But, there's also things that I absolutely hate, like the overabundance of tank battles, the misuse of the Bat Family, the entire story should've been about the League of Assassins' shadow war instead of Scarecrow talking about fear for the 1000th time, and the damn Joker sub-plot is massive plothole.
And I still maintain the opinion that the Arkham Knight should've been Damian Wayne instead of Jason Todd.
what joker sub plot
he's literally a hallucination
seems every single person missed the part of the game when batman gets exposed to scarecrow's new toxin
@@ryszakowyworse, Joker in AK exist as a plot device
It shouldn’t have been about the league lol
The first Arkham game I played was asylum, around the time when Origins came out. After trying those two I was excited about the next entry. When I saw gameplay on UA-cam from DashieXP, I ran out and bought Arkham Knight for PS4 that very minute. It was also my birthday, and it was raining. I stayed in all day and played it. I loved it.
Unironically great concept here: Batman Beyond Arkham.
Man, J has lost tons of weight. Bro's looking great!
I just realize in Origin
batman pretty much had the
"I am the one who Knocks"
speech
its good to see more compilations , any excuse to rewatch your videos is welcome 👍
i would love to see that some sort of "ranking all batman games" if you are still interested in it
As one Dark Knight’s era ends (Rest in peace Kevin “The Batman” Conroy, a new Dark Knight’s era may rise (Roger Craig Smith)
The tanks were unmanned because they planned to basically go underground so they would need the tanks unmanned in the meantime, was part of the plan the whole time
If only Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League never existed. 😤
I played AA in 2011. Like Borderlands, there was so much I didn't play for ages on 360 even though it was my main console from 08 til 16.
What a game trilogy. I never played Origins but Blackgate was a lot of fun
Rest in piece Kevin Conroy gone but never forgotten
There's a few batman lines from various media that have always stuck with me. Arkham 1 and 2 are great games, but the line that will always stick with me is from city when protocol 10 is active and batman wants to leave to save Talia, but Alfred stops him. "Batman must save Gotham."
Batman does NOT KILL in Arkham Knight. He turns them into Vegetables. And you know what they say about plants - they're still alive 😂
Arkham Knight is the perfect example of ‘Masterpiece doesn’t mean perfect’ I think people should use this more.
Thank goodness he didn't include Kill the Justice League
I heard that game’s lore actively contradicts whatever the Arkham continuity set up. I feel like Rocksteady just attempted to tie it to the Arkham series for the sake of marketing.
@@twindrill2852 I agree
@@twindrill2852 it is for the sake of marketing. the advertisement on the arkham games in steam says "from the creators of the arkham series"
same that game takes place in an alternative universe and no one can tell me otherwise
also he never reviewed the game in the first place so yeah
That game definitively can't be canon to these actual works of art.
The Arkham series never had a downfall, until the last game (Arkham Knight) it was always on top of everything, I think the games that are coming out now are spin offs but not the normal series, so the normal series never fell
1:41:00 the random Ace attorney Investigations 2: Miles Edgeworth music caught me off guard
No.. this can't be happening again. I'm filing a restraining order.
lol hi Mayo 👋
Yay! Good to see you back here!
Excited to watch this video :)
Does anyone miss Kevin Conroy?
Ever since I watched the animated series, I know hear his voice every time I read the comics 😢
You convinced me, I will try the game.
WOW !!!! This took a lot of work to make this video.
In Arkham asylum you can also change the trajectory of the zip line when already using it
The way I found this game was browsing in Best Buy and liking the demo games which is crazy back then and I knew I had to get that game 7/12/24
considering the series ended with Arkham knight and that was excellent and there were absolutely no other games that had the same batman again there was never a fall.
I appreciate this review! The arkham trilogy is my favorite but i think a lot of people look at knight with rose tinted googles.
To add to the point about Blackgate. There's legitimately good Metroidavanias on the 3DS.
WOAH NEW SONIC VIDEO?! I just binged ur whole playlist im pretty excited now. (Ur videos are better than johnnys btw)
Who knew that Ezra Miller was so good at reviewing games?
The arkham series were the best of my childhood, I never had played the first game though. Should I try it?
YES! How have you never played Asylum!
Really need to replay Origins!
It's not over people, new game coming this year. Arkham Batman should be amazing in VR.
A full length game with stealth, combat, detective areas and traversal.
How many people care enough to buy the headset hell does the fanbase have enough who care about VR?
you really believe that
YOU REALLY WOULD GIVE THEM MONEY AFTER THEY BUTCHERED THE FRANCHISE
people like you are the reason gaming is dead
they deserve nothing and they should get nothing
and nobody is going to buy VR just to play dead on arrival attempt at keeping the brutally murdered franchise relevant
@@baki484 "How many people care enough to buy the headset"
Well that is what Meta is banking on, this game getting people into VR that is why they funded it, this along with so many good games coming out and a cheaper Quest 3 coming out this year.
A quick glance at the VR community will show many long time Arkham fans like me very excited for this game.
It's gonna suck. They tried this already remember, failed miserably
I like this video. Side note: You say “the game is made for” a lot but then complain how it plays on PC… I find this interesting.
Warner Bros must be allergic to money I mean it’s been so many years and still haven’t gotten a Batman beyond Arkham game
What I like about Arkham Knight compared to Arkham Asylum in Arkham city is the free flow combat is so visceral compared to the previous Arkham games it really looks like Batman is beating the ever loving crap out of the goons. He goes up against and it’s just so fun to watch and execute, a combo.
Man sounds like an IGN reviewer for the amount of times he says “feel like Batman.”
I can't believe we haven't had armored edition ported to the switch, that seems like a no-brainer.
for people that aren't absolute comic nerds, the reveal was a surprise and the Arkham series are undisputedly fun to play, comic fan and typical gamer alike.
all 3 stories are great, and if everyone wants to diagnose everything and not just enjoy those things, everything objectively sucks.
I miss his voice.
I miss the Old Days.
@1:00:00 true, but at least Joker didn't get shot by Joker Jr.
Bro cooked a massive one
Gave me something to Edit to, Thank You
To be fair, in my eyes, the tru Arkham series never went down.
That’s that new 52 type timeline 1:15:06
Really good compilation, huge fan of the editing to make the whole thing flow as well as one big video
The Arkham series never fell! It ended with Knight and that’s it
2:14:52 My thoughts on the live service superhero games are this. The concept of them works well ON PAPER because they (and this is an odd comparison) feel like a less-cartoony version of the Lego superhero games with a lesser emphasis on puzzles. HOWEVER, in practice they just become an excuse for publishers (and movie studios in the case of The Avengers game) to charge exorbitant prices for cosmetic items. Looking back at The Avengers game, for example, *I* FEEL that most people wouldn’t necessarily mind paying maybe $5.00 for the Captain America: The Winter Soldier costume for Captain America; but it was outrageous that you had to pay an upwards of maybe $10.00 for it (although that has been nullified because in the game’s last update, Crystal Dynamics made all the cosmetics available to everyone for free).
By far the worst thing about Origins is the Black Mask/Joker switcheroo. Everything else was pretty good
28:30 - You aren't going to screw up the resolution of your monitor. Just play it at 1080p. You probably don't even have a monitor big enough to get much benefit out of 2160p anyway.
As someone whos played the mobile games, i can say they are simple but fun (as you'd expect from a good mobile game) is their loss a huge blow.... no not really but they definitely had their place
The remaster of this game also runs in 60fps in consoles
Its so sad seeing these kind of videos with titles relating to rocksteady's downfall , i cant belive this franchise turned into this . I remember back in batman arkham city days where after the reveal that you can play as catwoman , robin and nightwing , the fandom saw the possibility of rocksteady being in charge of a dc universe game franchise. I personally thought that we would get a teen tians game after arkham knight , just a way to test the waters on playing as a metahuman before we get to the superman game that everybody was begging for .
honestly i know they made entire VR promo about bruce having nightmares about killing bat family and turning into joker so that's why he keeps them away in arkham knight
but i feel like they actually should have been utilised much more
the game itself feels 8 hours too short, so much unused content and actual crime scene is used only once in entire game
maybe instead of focusing on arkham militia thugs saying that they have boyfriends they should have focused more on actually making the full game
To this day, I think the inverted takedown icon in Asylum looks like a spoon.
Kevin Conroy n Adam West Rest Up
There's a PC mod to play the special Asylum content! No need to compromise!
I feel like Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy affected the music in Arkham City.
I would love these games if they weren't stuck on 30 fps on consoles
Origins takes place at least 8 years before asylum based on dialogue in Arkham knight, the dialogue makes it seem like it’s rounded down, you could easily put 10 years between them and since Harley was an intern during origins maybe she goes to work someplace else after the game but starts working in arkham years later because of the impression joker left in her back in origins, so the continuity is not as convoluted as it looks.
The introduction of asylum beats the entire game
Was this also planned with mayo ?
Arleen was the best Harley imo.
Controversies with Tara aside, I already never liked her Harley.
Tbh I'm glad we're getting more VAs doing Harley, even if I don't like every new take I hear I'd prefer it than hear the same voice in EVERYTHING.
BRO you sound like Ezra Miller.
I kinda hear it
It’s pretty sad how far Rocksteady has fallen, like look at Suicide Squad game graphics compared to Arkham Knight.
I hate SSKTJL but there’s nothing wrong with the graphics lol
@@Moonking_Is_BackJust compare Arkham knight and SSTJ side by side
Graphics aside the amount of junk of screen they have during gameplay is such a turnoff
@@Steph88553 yeah I agree that the UI is over-cluttered and the art style sucks but the graphics itself are great
When this game came out I was in the 3rd grade.
Me: ouuuuch! My adult hood…
1:46:52 - Arkham Knight was the first game I ever used a Steam Refund on due to how bad the PC version's performance was at launch. I never did get around to playing it again.
The only reason Arkham knight exists to confuse the player, as if it was redhood the hole time it doesn't change the story at all if it's redhood
I genuinely miss fighting lots of ninja's and martial artist in Arkham Knight.
can you do a the batman (2004) retrospective.?
It'll only fall when the mainline games unfortunately get delisted due to copyright and licensing expirations... and believe me, we shall do our best in preventing such bull. No more Spec Ops: The Lines, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escapes from Butcher Bays/Assaults on Dark Athena, Need for Speed: Undergrounds and Most Wanted 2005s, The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earths, and other unfortunate gems lost by an outdated concept.
