When I hear Kevin Conroy doing different voice styles for Bruce Wayne, Batman, and even Hush, it just makes me wonder how well an animated Dark Knights Metal would be if he did a few voices for the other Batmen. Of course, it would be a nice touch to have other Batman actors do some voices, but it would be chilling to hear Kevin’s voice as manic and laughing as the Batman Who Laughs, distorted and monstrous as the Devastator, bloodthirsty and prideful as the Merciless, or even dark and menacing as Barbatos himself.

Another cool hint for the twist at the end is that Joker always calls Batman "Bats" and Clayface Joker just calls him "Batman". Plus at the mirror scene, if you notice the flower on his chest, Clayface wears it on the opposite side of his jacket of his "reflection".
I was thinking he was pushed harder here since he was poisoned and on the verge of dying the entire night, but it’s definitely arguable. He’s pushed to his limits in each game in all fairness lol
This is the game that cemented the fact that Riddler works BEST as a narrative villain, and is a pain in the ass when making him a gameplay villain. My problem with Riddler is that he tests the puzzle solving side of Batman to his fullest limits. Considering how Batman and Riddler are the smartest humans alive in the DC universe, it's not very fair to assume the players solve some of the tests that Riddler can come up with. To give an example, when the 2022 movie came out, a lot of people collectively went: "oooohhhh." at the "Thumb-drive" line. Very few people are on the same level as the Riddler.
I never noticed how bruce treated tim but after knight and finding out what happened to jason in this universe it’s funny that I never really thought about it as bruce being a bit more distant from tim out of fear of loosing another robin. Also if I remember he replaced jason after about 3 months of his being missing and i think it was just too soon for bruce and he hadn’t quite grived enough. Its interesting just how well all 4 of these games fit one another
2:14:31 - I will always remember that moment in The Flash when, on an alternate earth, Hamill's Trickster was dressed in a purple suit and clown-like makeup. Obviously the creators were trying to get Mark to somehow portray the Joker in live-action, so it's nice to see what it would've looked like if anyone ever wished to see Mark in the part in live-action.
Now THIS is a great video. I also watched Whitelight's 3 hour video on this game and didn't understand anything or learn anything new. Thanks for the great content.
They really got the whole call of duty zombies crew in this game: Fred Tatasciore/Nikolai Belinski - Bane and soloman grundy Nolan North/Edward Richtofen - Penguin Tom Kane/ Takeo Makasaki - Quincy Sharp Steve Bloom/ Tank Dempsey - killer croc

Honestly, I know people have been clamoring for a remastered release on newer systems, would be satisfied with a port to the Switch of all the Arkham games. They surprisingly hold up well in terms of how it looks. Plus the Wii U was able to run City and Origins. So I don't think there is any hardware issues aside from MAYBE Arkham Knight, which I am honestly fine with not playing again
I’d love to play some of the earlier games on switch! They managed to port the Witcher 3 to switch, so I have to imagine both Asylum and City are possible
R.I.P to Kevin Conroy. I was just watching Ur videos on the batman games a day before his death and it made me realize how much this man had in impact on my childhood. Truly was one of the best batman to live.
You’re so underrated dude, your content is amazing and interesting due to the amount of effort and passion you pour into it, keep it up and you’ll blossom, you deserve way more subs.
Probably the best scene for me was when Batman’s on the verge of dying and see’s his parents and has the opportunity to pass on and be free of his burdens, guilts, & physical/mental pain. It would be so easy and he could see his family again. Nope he gets back up - worse for wear but he’s up and dismisses Oracle’s worries with a simple “I’ll make it”. He knows Gotham needs its Dark Knight and he embodies the indomitable human spirit. What a legend. That and Batman admitting he’d still save Joker
Ya miss the part during the Bane section that if you return to him after blowing up all your half on the Titan container list but do so during Protocol 10, TYGER guards will be your opponents instead of Joker’s gang. They’re a significantly harder group to fight than Jokers goons since they swing faster than Batman outside of Freeflow Mode
Thank you for sticking with me so long! I think this is the longest video I’ve done so far, but I think it’s fitting for the game. As far as Arkham Knight, I have a feeling that’ll be like 3 hours 😅
I’m so happy that this game aged very well and is still remembered fondly by lots of people. I grew up with Arkham city. I got the GOTY edition and collector’s edition. I scuffed up the GOTY edition after playing it so much and got the other version as a result. Good times. Great video. Cheers.

I remember the first time I played the game, I thought it was just shotty graphics lol I also thought it would've been cool if after you beat the game , you could play the game using the sword. or at least a vr challenge with the sword against endless enemies
I don’t know why, but Batman’s lines in the steel mill to Harley are so raw for some reason. “Get out of my way Quinn. I said MOVE!” Hearing those lines from Kevin Conroy (god bless his soul) is so great.
Fun fact: Until I saw videos like this talking about the actor change, I had no idea there was a different voice actress for Harley. Tara did a great job with the role, I was utterly convinced it was still the original from the animated series
I remember seeing a billboard of the iconic Arkham City black and white marketing on the side of the motorway near where I lived (the billboard had Batman lifting the joker picture. Another one a couple km before had the one with Batman and Catwoman). It’s one of the most memorable… memories of my childhood. I have the Armored Edition for the Wii U, and being able to use the gamepad for the map, quick selecting gadgets, and the addition of the Kinetic Gloves (which would later be implemented as the Shock Gloves in Origins) was a lot of fun. Plus you got all the DLC from the GOTY edition included on-disc. Love it when re-releases of old games include the DLC from the first release on-disc.
A way to tell who is who was pointed out on reddit
Joker always calls batman “Bats”
Where as clayface always calls him “Batman”
Nerdy, may I call you Nerdy? I just wanna say your video dropped right on time. I've been having a horrible day and I needed something to take my mind off of it. What better than my favorite video game retrospective channel to do a retrospective on one of the best games of my childhood? Thank you, brother.
I’m sorry to hear it’s been a rough day for you. I hope the video can help take the edge off. Do you still have access to the game? It could be a good day to hop back in for the positive vibes
@@alwaysnerdyretros unfortunately no. However, if and when I get some more money I will buy the PS4 version of Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and, if certain rumors are true, the PS4 version of Arkham Origins.
@@eccentricdez42 I think that’s a solid plan. The remasters seem to be cheaper now too which is nice. The City remaster in particular looks really great too, so I think you’ll enjoy it
@@alwaysnerdyretros Currently watching the video and I'm loving it so far.

That man went to the stratosphere with that kick.
I’ve been looking forward to this. I already can’t wait for the Arkham Knight video.
Keep up the great work. Your videos are some of the best analysis videos on the entire platform
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that :) I’m working on Arkham Knight now and I’m looking forward to discussing it
@@alwaysnerdyretros great to hear. Take all the time you need. I will be there to see it when it comes out
@@alwaysnerdyretros hope it will be worth it as the finale!
@@alwaysnerdyretros can’t wait to see your Knight video!
I don't even care about those renowned video game critics anymore, most of them don't have enough time to make indepth analysis such as these retrospectives. I appreciate all the work you put into these videos!
Two of my favorite games from childhood were Transformers: Fall of Cybertron and Tron: Evolution
If I remember correctly, Fall of Cybertron's multi-player was awesome
When I hear Kevin Conroy doing different voice styles for Bruce Wayne, Batman, and even Hush, it just makes me wonder how well an animated Dark Knights Metal would be if he did a few voices for the other Batmen. Of course, it would be a nice touch to have other Batman actors do some voices, but it would be chilling to hear Kevin’s voice as manic and laughing as the Batman Who Laughs, distorted and monstrous as the Devastator, bloodthirsty and prideful as the Merciless, or even dark and menacing as Barbatos himself.
Kevin Conroy is okay as Batman voice actors go but Jason O'Mara IS Batman. 🦇
@@BungieStudios lmao get ur head outta ur ass

@@alwaysnerdyretros Hell yeah! Thank you for a good time with this one my man!
Had me LOL
33:16 I was not expecting that edit at all. That was pretty funny, and great work man. Keep it up, and I look forward to the Batman Arkham Knight video in the future.
This game is an absolute amazing piece of art, you can tell rocksteady really tried with this game and it's shows one of my favorite childhood games I used to play so much nostalgia for it.
Honestly one of the only channels I search for every couple of weeks to a month to see a new video, such quality takes time, keep up the amazing work
Thank you!!! I’ll keep them coming!
We love your videos, my man. The videos aren't only a great recap of the games but with all the attention to detail not only in the game but what went on behind the scenes is incredible. I can feel the effort you put into these videos, especially long ones like these. Thank you for making these videos!
Thank you for taking the time to comment! I really appreciate it :)
Just rewatched the origins and asylums one's last night so this is perfect timing. Can't wait to for your Retrospective on Arkham Knight if you're doing one
That’s awesome! Yes I’m working on Knight right now. That’s a massive game so I’m not sure when exactly it’ll be done yet, but it’s the next one up
After the suicide squad kill the justice league dumpster fire, I was back in the Batman mood and I’ve been playing all 4 again and watching your videos, and others, as I finish each game. These videos are great. I never get tired of watching Arkham commentary or retrospective videos. My random opinion is that you said you really like the steel mill area, I think my favorite is the courthouse, park row area. I just love the whole vibe of the courthouse, Ace Chemicals, the Monarch Theater, tight alleys, neon, it’s great.
I truly believe this to be not only the best superhero games ever made, but one of the best games in general ever made. It’s so cool and so much fun
Been replaying this every single year since I got it in 2012 for Xbox (i have all 360 titles) I own all the games on pc now and I still come back and play all of them but somehow it never gets boring. That’s how you know these games are something special if it can keep people coming back again and again!
Man I loved Arkham asylum and city. The peak of videogames for me when I was young
I’ve been watching all of your retrospectives this past week and now there’s a new one! I like how you go in depth to the development of the game, story and even Easter eggs that not even I caught the first couple times playing a game
I really like that in the beginning for the "subscribe and notifications" part, you put The Batman(2004) animated series' Batalert sound. I really used to love that show as a child and so it sets me in the mood for some Batman content.
Truly one of the best video games ever made. I’ve replayed it countless times and it never gets old. The amount of depth and respect to the Batman universe that the developers put into Arkham City is incredible
I remember as a kid when I first put in Arkham city on me ps3 and couldn’t get over the title screen because of the soundtrack,it blew my mind.
Been on a Batman binge the last few days, seem to get recommendations of Arkham deep dives constantly! I ain't complainin.
It's da freakin Bat!
Love this franchise and your videos on it have been a treat. Always worth the wait 👍
It's been a long time coming but he finally returned.
Yep. Quality over quantity, after all.
ahh les goo
Yes! I really didn’t want to rush this one, since I know it’s special to so many people. I also couldn’t help but to just keep adding things to it 😅
It's sad to say but now with Kevin Conroy's passing the idea of a Damian Wayne game makes more sense than just recasting such an iconic voice.
Because they cant recast him
A side note, if you finish Bane’s side quest before beating the main story, TYGER guards ambush you at the Teddy Bear store instead.
Yes, I've been waiting for this video for a while. Continue making these videos, they are so entertaining and give so much in-depth information about the game.
Thank you I definitely will! They’re a lot of fun to make so I’m really glad you’re enjoying them
You have no idea how much I rewatch your videos; keep it up and hope your channel keeps going! You’re one of the best game content creators
You know it's going to be a good day when you see that Nerdy alert. I first stumbled upon your channel with the Ultimate Alliance retrospective, and I am so grateful that I found the best videos on the games that made my childhood. Also, I just want to mention that your videos are in fact the best because you touch on every single thing that make these games wonderful, and I smile each time you mention small things like Azrael stalking Bruce in the opening section. Keep it up!
I just recently discovered this channel and I absolutely ADORE these long, thorough videos on the Arkham series you’ve done. Thank you so much for your great content and can’t wait to see more!
Awesome! I've been waiting for you to release this retrospective ever since I found your other ones. I always feel like I learn so much about this game series by watching your videos, and I appreciate that your content isn't just endless praise but well-researched, deep-dive, behind-the-scenes (dare I say) documentaries. You, too, deserve a 10 out of 10!
I'm looking forward to your next video on Arkham Knight.
I’m stunned. You actually got to mention EVERYTHING about this game. That’s very impressive. Just like the devs of this game, you put a lot of work and effort to end up with an amazing project. Keep it up dude
Fan-freaking-tastic retrospective review as always, dude! ⚡️👍
Not only you nailed the researchs for this game and editor did a amazing job, but i appreciate you made great gag at this timestamp (33:19 to 33:35) when you're on the phone screen while explaining the plot, good stuff!
I also love that in "Freight Train" challenge map, the side-scroller feels like a homage to either Oldboy (the 2003 one, not the terrible American remake version) or one of the classic beat 'em up video games like Final Fight.
Thank you!!! I’ll pass the compliment to my editor as well :)
I agree about the freight train too, I love how much of a throwback it feels like
Man, I've been waiting for this!
Good to have you back, nerdy.
Thank you! I appreciate the patience and I hope it’s worth the wait :)
This my favorite game of all time. I remember going to GameStop, my boy got modern warfare and I got this. I was so hyped. The intro is AMAZING
I loved the marketing and cover art for this game. Still to this day, very few games have topped it!
What a coincidence. I recently replayed this game and I still adore it. For me, this is the best Batman Arkham game and one of the best comic book based games ever. And now I get to watch your video. Thank you so much for it, good luck with everything and Godspeed)
Another cool hint for the twist at the end is that Joker always calls Batman "Bats" and Clayface Joker just calls him "Batman". Plus at the mirror scene, if you notice the flower on his chest, Clayface wears it on the opposite side of his jacket of his "reflection".
In terms of the title I’d argue Batman was pushed to his limit much more in Arkham Knight, dude had to reveal his identity to save someone
Its interesting just how well all 4 of these games fit one another
51:51 lol batman's like, "shit...forgot my face is all messed up"
Definitely my favorite analysis of City. You definitely did your homework on this game and I can feel your passion for it as well. 10/10 review
Thank you for checking it out!
They really got the whole call of duty zombies crew in this game:
Fred Tatasciore/Nikolai Belinski - Bane and soloman grundy
Nolan North/Edward Richtofen - Penguin
Tom Kane/ Takeo Makasaki - Quincy Sharp
Steve Bloom/ Tank Dempsey - killer croc
I love your videos, they're so well-crafted and informative. And given that this is one of my favourite games of all time, let's just say I've been eagerly waiting for this.
Thank you! I really hope you enjoy this one too :)
1:41:35 If you visit bane in most of the game joker's men will show up, however if you visit him during protocol 10, instead of joker thugs, TYGER guards will show up.
Thank you!!! I really appreciate you saying so. I’m having a lot of fun making these so I’ll definitely continue to crank them out :)
I played this game so many times and just found killer croc in it. I love this channel you really be putting in that work
Thank you! Yeah Croc is so easy to miss and I played through so many times without finding him
"I wonder if Basil fusing with the Lazarus Pit will have any interesting consequences."
Rocksteady: Damn. Really wish I had thought of that.
This is like my 3rd 2hr+ Video Essay I've watched on Arkham City
Fucking love that game
Ya miss the part during the Bane section that if you return to him after blowing up all your half on the Titan container list but do so during Protocol 10, TYGER guards will be your opponents instead of Joker’s gang. They’re a significantly harder group to fight than Jokers goons since they swing faster than Batman outside of Freeflow Mode
Man I’ve been waiting for this one since your ultimate alliance videos!!! 2 hours is such a nice length to cover the blessing that is this game
Thank you for sticking with me so long! I think this is the longest video I’ve done so far, but I think it’s fitting for the game. As far as Arkham Knight, I have a feeling that’ll be like 3 hours 😅
@@alwaysnerdyretros you’re insane dude!
@@marquisehebbler9471 I know, I can’t help it 😄
I’m so happy that this game aged very well and is still remembered fondly by lots of people. I grew up with Arkham city. I got the GOTY edition and collector’s edition. I scuffed up the GOTY edition after playing it so much and got the other version as a result. Good times. Great video. Cheers.
I've been recently playing Arkham city and I love the hell out of it. Great vid, looking forward to the Arkham Knight retrospective once it comes out.
Thank you! I’m working on Knight now so it’ll definitely be the next to release
I love how the clay face joker talks a lot more blunt than Batman whereas actual joker is pure chaos
When the thugs at 22:44 talk about batman and spout out a plan, I normally will go "okay, good plan" and throw a smoke pellet and retreat. Always makes me laugh when I do it and they start freaking out.
This was one of my dad's favorite games. He died last year. He caught the riddler in every one of these games multiple times
I was just thinking of your retrospective of this game today evening and just like a wish from lamb that came true here U are. Getting ready with some popcorn cause this one is gonna be a banger!
Its hard to see well-researched and well-edited retrospective on games like these, I personally really appreciate your work and becoming a fan of it every time I watch one of your videos.. Keep up the good work, man.. 👍
Edit: Gotta admit I laughed my ass out at 33:11
Thank you so much! That’s crazy how you subconsciously knew the video was releasing too lol
I really appreciate your comment btw. I’ll make sure to keep the videos coming :)
@@alwaysnerdyretros Indeed, that's crazy 🤪

Just a fun fact for the ‘66 Batman movie. The shark exploded when it hit the water cuz they found out later it was a robot shark made by the penguin. The movies still goofy tho cuz that means shark repellent, worked on a fake shark lol
So much time, effort, and passion was put into this game. Incredibly thought out storylines and teases for future games just like Asylum
Something told me to check my subscriptions tab and there was your thumbnail. Very eager to watch this. I’ll go ahead and say another great job to you as always and I look forward to your future content!
Thank you for checking it out! I really appreciate the support :)
This is one of my favorite games of all time. I recently went back and 100% the game as well
Fun fact nightwing had a canceled dlc, it as fully done but they decided it didn’t match with the game, it would have been similar to catwomen and been right as protocol ten happened. Tyger guard would have assaulted Wayne manor and nightwing would have defended it which is why there is a Wayne manor challenge map
The phone segment is hilarious
Haha thank you 😆
That black mask getaway on the train was a really fun challenge map in AC
Thank you for releasing this on my birthday, Nerdy! I've been so excited for this video!
Happy Birthday!!! I totally planned that out lol
Amazing video as always loved that we got a nice long one to tide us over until the next one. And if the Arkham knight video is four hours long, you won't see me complaining.
I cannot WAIT for Arkham knight dude. You’ve made my day with this City video. Thank you so much for your research & knowledge in these amazingly entertaining videos :))
I always loved how in the scene with Joker looking at himself in the mirror, you can see that his reflection isnt 100% accurate and can tell after that its clayface. I remember the first time I played the game, I thought it was just shotty graphics lol I also thought it would've been cool if after you beat the game , you could play the game using the sword. or at least a vr challenge with the sword against endless enemies
AND I got the day off today?? Let's freaking go! I'm gonna watch this while I play some Batman 🔥🔥
Hahaha that’s awesome! A full-on Batman Day!
I don’t know why, but Batman’s lines in the steel mill to Harley are so raw for some reason. “Get out of my way Quinn. I said MOVE!” Hearing those lines from Kevin Conroy (god bless his soul) is so great.
R.I.P Kevin Conroy 💙
Fun fact: Until I saw videos like this talking about the actor change, I had no idea there was a different voice actress for Harley. Tara did a great job with the role, I was utterly convinced it was still the original from the animated series
Just found this channel and it’s incredible! Arkham is one of my favorite series! Keep up the great work :)
These retrospectives are so underrated keep up the great work man
You know it's a good day when Always Nerdy uploads
I remember seeing a billboard of the iconic Arkham City black and white marketing on the side of the motorway near where I lived (the billboard had Batman lifting the joker picture. Another one a couple km before had the one with Batman and Catwoman). It’s one of the most memorable… memories of my childhood. The billboard actually stayed up for a couple years after the release and every time my parents and I drove past I would look at it for long as possible. That one poster definitely influenced me to buy Arkham City and my love for the game. The good old days!!
Already halfway through Arkham City now wow!
Haha perfect timing! Well, maybe it’d be perfect timing if I released it right as you finished the game lol
Fun fact when clayface is talking to Batman he calls him Batman and the real joker calls him bats.
