A dense wire works great on wooden planks like that. All wooden features have to be covered here in Costa Rica, else it is like black ice 2 weeks into the rainy season. 1-2 layers of chicken wire (the small hole kind) works great. We have a lot of small bridges like that in bike parks and they are all covered with wire, else it becomes completely useless...
Unless that ground has been purposfully compacted that flooring is going to sink/shift. Your best option would be to dig the legs into the floor and post-mix them into place (even then it will probably still move a bit). It will be a time consuming process but the lifespan of the floor will be substantially longer.
Nice to see a more down to earth build on UA-cam. A dream that might actually be possible to achieve for some people not like some of the wealthier youtubers
Cool project. Re: grip - Why not wait and see how the wood deck works when wet? Iff’n you do add grip, I vote for the sand additive in a low sheen paint. Also hope to see some trials and balance features added.
full ramp specs while building it please Tom is always good content to watch, 6ft high yes but radius, width and distance between roll in etc would be awesome for all us home ramp builders.
I think if it were me, I would have a ladder, with a simple rope & pulley type arrangement for hoisting the bike up… but, then it is probably slower than walking the ramp with the bike 🤷♂️ Maybe an electronic elevator cage 🤔
rabbit wire on the top of the woodplanks, lets go. take a monster drink on the roll in , is special grippy when its dry, bmx dudes do the same on slippy ramps
Great work Tom!!!! I would highly recommend to use some weatherproof application mixed with grit and apply on the wood. Definitely it will be very slippery when it's wet. I have very bad experiences on wet wood bridges. 😅😅
Looks fantastic but yes I would probably be of the safe side paint it and put sand on it . Or some old carpet better than having a accident on it. And also a other opinion is putting some proper steps on it to get up
Yeah, the carpet would hold water, but as a feels people have also suggested, paint with sand or non-slip additive would be a great option. Looks pretty difficult to walk up those narrow treads with the bike, given how steep it is! I would case before I even got on the bike 😂
Tom Try put Chicken Wire along Platform as Waverley Borough council Garden Contractor they put Chicken wire over wood platform path where it Floods people don’t slip when it wet
Well done Tom! You’ll get some good life out of that run in, the ground really is solid! Easy enough to shim it out if you get any movement as well 👍🏻 don’t know if you ever did carpentry but you’ve got a good knack for it 😊
I think you need a little pulley set up to pull up the bike. Similar to what brick layers use on scaffolding. Make it a little taller and make it so it can swing inboard. I fear someone is going to have a nasty fall climbing up with the bike.
I had this thought too! It would probably be a bit of a slow turnaround if he has some mates riding there as well, being that the platform only has room for 1 rider & you can climb up until the current rider heads down. I’m sure Tom is smarter than me though & I am thinking of problems that don’t exist ☺️
That wood is gonne be like ice iff it is wet.. Maybe it's a great idea to put on there a layer bituum That is like a sort of sanding gritt that has allways grip.. And is wether proof Sorry for my crappy englisch. It's not my own language at least i try ;)
I don't know what permission you have on the land but consider planting wind and sound breaks , maybe visual so you dont get shut down like like the orchrad
Chicken wire holds dirt and green grime in it makes it very hard to scrub stuff and also holds water were you dont want it, be careful ((edit)as it rots wood)
You could paint the wood and cover it with sand to give it the grip
Definitely an underated technique but often better to mix glue the sand and paint over
@@eartharrow6772 The pricier option is spray on bed liner paint.
Really nice craftsmanship. Can't tell you how satisfying it is to see treated wood being used, and a level, aaaand a chalkline! Dreams!
To the skyyyyyyyy!
Nice build Tom, good job. But at 9:22 "will it stay grippy when it is dry?" But like one other said, chicken wire will work perfectly when it is wet.
A dense wire works great on wooden planks like that.
All wooden features have to be covered here in Costa Rica, else it is like black ice 2 weeks into the rainy season.

I totally agree with the resources that will end up rotten I think laying pallets that you filled the gaps would have be better
Good call. Mud sills would work too :)
Not necessarily, if the ground has been like that for at least a year, it won't be sinking much more, if any.
Nice to see a more down to earth build on UA-cam. A dream that might actually be possible to achieve for some people not like some of the wealthier youtubers
Top energy as always dude, can't wait to see it finished.👌
Cool project.

When you are revved up for something your enthusiasm just beems dude 🤟.... cheers to you ✨👌

Well Done Tom!
I reckon a stairs and ramp on the side would be better than climbing the roll in.
But this is epic! Looking forward to the next one

Good stuff!! you could cross cut the treads with the circular saw at maybe 3mm deep. Just cut x patterns everywhere 🤘🏼
Amazing work! 🙌🏻
Nice progress Tom.
Awesome video Tom I wish I could visit the UK that way I could meet the Pilgrim brothers plus you and Kara you guys are cool 😎
Would sure be an amazing day, that you would never forget!
@@everyhandletaken but everything is expensive
@@patrickmiller8605 ain’t that the truth 😒
The ramp is looking good Tom ✌️& ❤️
I feel like due to the location and the “runway” looking Chanel through the trees if you put a wind sock up on the back of the roll in
Nice idea 💡
You can then know what it is like, before you bother heading up. Dreams!

Pretty sweet...well done....cheers 🇨🇦
Great work Tom looking great really well done 👍👍👍

So slick. Scariest things are the steps. 🤣

felt it! looking good !

Great build. What's the black covering on the plywood roll-in please Tom?
Looking sikkk don't forget to Wood Treat the cut edges though 🤟💚

He did mention in a Q&A video, that he did do carpentry previously 😊
Awesome! 🍻

such a sick jump. I would love to build one.
Use a chain saw and put cross hatches on the floor for added traction

Let me introduce Tom Car...penter :-p
I would use chicken wire on the run give you plenty of grip in the wet and dry
Personally I prefer a fine Quail wire 😂
❤
“YEAHHH BUDDYY”
I don't know what permission you have on the land but consider planting wind and sound breaks , maybe visual so you dont get shut down like like the orchrad
I give 10 - 10
Use chicken wire on the wood for extra grip 👌🏽
Chicken wire holds dirt and green grime in it makes it very hard to scrub stuff and also holds water were you dont want it, be careful ((edit)as it rots wood)
In the future you could build a zig zag ramp that goes to the top of the platform.. The price of wood tho🤣
Nice work 👏 but just out of interest why did you make the run up to the kicker so long 🤔
I would use chicken wire on the run in
Chicken-wire the run-up....
Yes it will get slippy, cut up slats out of buffalo board , that will last 10 years and never get slippy , even when soaked 👍
Handrail..!! 🤷♂️🥴🤯
Just lay some chicken wire over the wood, it’s cheap and easy
Yeah, slippy as hell with the grain.
Chicken wire over the wood, don’t felt it
Your floooooooooooooooor is sooooooooooo loooooooopooong🤷
