    Trail building can take years to learn how to do safely and legally. Make sure you have the permission of the land owner before you even pick up a spade, and don't build new lines in an area that already has sanctioned trails. The safest and easiest way to get into trail building is to volunteer at an organised dig day. Your local trail centre or bike park should have a few of these a year so why not get in touch? They'll always appreciate the extra pair of hands!

      I imagine it could easily become a nightmare depending on where you're based, dealing with permits, safety inspections, insurance etc... As soon as you start making money off of something all the rules change, customers expect a certain level of quality, nothing can be half-arsed or sketchy because if someone gets injured due to your negligence the lawyers will be after you.

    Own the mountain... maaaaaaan! I'm building bikepark at Russia, and all this tips from 1st to the last are so true, so fine! Dan knows 👌
    My best tips for now are that the bikepark is consisting of bike part and park part. Building of trails in the woods or building a bikepark - very different stories. At bikepark you need to be also a gardener. And think about all existing levels of riders.

    Getting permission is the key. Unsanctioned trails which are potentially damaging environmentally and not maintained, covered in trash are pointed to by people who want to prevent sanctioned mtb trails. If we want more trails we need to work with stakeholders because the anti mtb voices are very loud.

    Last fall we got permission to build trails at our local "slalom/snowboard hill".. at the best spots we got 2-3inches of dirt, before we hit bedrock.. it's a real nightmare sometimes trying to build berms and stuff..And yeah, its basically the only big-ish hill within 50km's radius 😂 anyone else got these kind of conditions to work with? Would be interresting to get some inspiration for the upcoming diggingseason.. still got like 20inches of packed snow on the hill 🙄 Great video as usual, cheers from Finland!

      Yes, we're getting soil and gravel shipped in, and also building lots of wooden features. Would be interresting to see some footage of similar-ish conditions tho 😁 would be so much easier to show a couple of videos to the 70+ aged people running the place, than standing there waving our hands trying to sound like a feature, and picture it mid-air.. they don't speak MTB 😂 It all just looks dangerous to them 😂

    Why is Dyfi pronounced "Dubby"? Every time I hear it I think that I have to be misunderstanding them but it's the same every time. Someone please explain.

    • @willbick7889
      @willbick7889 3 роки тому +5

      its pronounced 'Duvvy'. Its a welsh word and welsh letters are pronounced differently to English. In this case the Y is pronounced 'uh', the F pronounced like a v, and the I pronounced 'ee'. Hence Duhvee, or duvvy.

    What's the best way to work with a trail organization that is completely adamant about not letting anybody ride when the tracks are even the slightest bit damp?

    • @ringothepup
      @ringothepup 3 роки тому +1

      I'm sure they have really good reasons for being that strict about riding wet trails. I would recommend helping them dig and maintain the trails a bit so you can help build rad features and see for yourself why the wet might be a problem. Often as part of the build crew you can unlock special riding priveliges!

    • @A0AF0RB1DD3N
      @A0AF0RB1DD3N 3 роки тому

      @James Poole A single org manages most of the trails in my area and if it rains for a half day they close down everything for 3-4 days following that. I've talked to a couple of the trail stewards already and usually they close the entire trail because of a couple problem spots that the org has no interest in fixing drainage for. Plus everything is so hard packed at this point that there would have to be a ton of rain to make the slightest rut for a vast majority of the trails. I totally understand that they want to preserve the trail but what's the point if people can't ride it most of the time?

    I am from Belgium and our problem is that the organisation who own the forests don’t let us build trails so to have trails, you need to dig illegal trails. Or my mtb club needs to buy parts of forests to even get a good training spot where we are sure it isn’t illegal. Especially in Flanders is the problem really big. And the trails made by Sport Vlaanderen are so rubbish they are only intended for the real beginning mountainbiker and not for the advanced mountainbiker.

    • @wzukr
