Low Cost Airlines are seemingly everywhere in the modern aviation market. Over the last 30 years these low budget operators have sprang up in all regions of the world. Offering low fares and a basic A to B service. In the 2000s decade, massive low cost expansion in Southeast Asia gave rise to many airlines based out Indonesia. One such operator was Adam Air. For a time in the mid to late 2000s, one could easily argue that Adam Air was not only one of the worst airlines in Indonesia but possibly one of the most unsafe in the entire world.
Three hull losses and multiple other incidents occurred over a two year period between 2006 and 2008. The deadliest of which transpired on New Years Day of 2007. The Disaster of Adam Air Flight 574 certainly highlighted Indonesia’s poor aviation safety record. The story is just as much about the airline marred in controversy, corruption and nepotism as it is about the disaster itself.

I’d give it 5 out 10 if could change few things I’d watch all and sub and like. Look at aviation channel. Does great love it watched all videos. Just FYI from my opinion. The cockpit recording is disturbing. It's even more terrifying when you hear the speed increases and the aircraft starts breaking apart. That's scary
Even as someone who doesn't believe in god... that repeated "allahu akbar" at the end is haunting while they look death in the eye... whatever happens when we die, i just hope it was quick and painless.

This is by far the most disturbing CVR I've ever heard. Hearing the pilots call out to god in terror and desperation as the plane spiraled towards the ocean is so heartbreaking and terrifying. Those final moments as the plane broke up is particularly hard to listen to.

You think that CVR is bad, listen to the CVR from GOL 1907 (mostly cockpit alarms and breakup sounds) or Western airlines 2605 (a true scream of terror from a man who knows he only has seconds to live)

Very very true. None, ok most , of these people who own airlines take their own flights. They either own or lease their own smaller private jets for personal use . That way even if they are cutting corners with the airline company they own , they dont need to worry about their own safety. Disgusting . All airlines owners should be made to fly in their company planes ....atleast that way they will be forced to make sure they do not cut corners as their safety is also jeopardised
The owners probably wouldn’t be flying Adam Air even if it was safe. People who are wealthy enough to own an airline likely have a private plane.
@@ed4all33 Wasn't there something some years back where - I seem to recall China, but I'm not 100% sure - dictated that after something that stopped either some airline or some model of plane from flying, dictated that their directors had to be on the first flight to get back their license?

I flew once with Adam Air as a kid. I still remember how the seat behind me just... came off? Like the bolts screwing it to the floor had popped off or something.
Their sheer disregard for safety is unbelievable. Good thing we landed safely. We never flew with them again.
I remembered a crack on the window I sat next to when I was a kid in a flight from Bali. Even took pics with the pilots.
Now I wonder if those pilots are doing okay rn

- the toilet door lock seems broken and they used a cloth to hang the door

- missing bolt on chairs
- unusable seat table
Thank goodness I never had to fly with such cheap airlines. Even the more expensive ones werrn't perfect here...I hope the quality of Indonesian airlines will/have improved since the last time I had to fly on a plane (Yogyakarta to Pekanbaru by Garuda in 2014). Nowadays I have chosen a hermit homebody lifestyle for the past decade, but I still love watching aviation videos from the safety of my home, LoL.

I once experienced smelly air in a Lion Air too (around the late 00s, I forgot exactly when), it's like smelling a mix of public toilet and a used tampon...blergh!!! My ears also got hurt the whole ride. I never flew with Lion again ever since (except when other people bought my ticket).
4 days before, in 28 Dec 2006 a ship (Senopati Nusantara) sank in the Java Sea, my sister along with four of her friends and more than 300 other passengers went missing. At that time we had to look for information everywhere about the victims of the ship accident, then suddenly on January 1 we were shocked by another sad news about Adam Air 574.
We were really confused because the media reports suddenly turned to Adam Air 574. Finally we decided to check the northern coastline of the island of Java ourselves.

The fact that we can clearly hear the plane breaking off in the recording is haunting. Usually we only hear the warnings or/and pilots and it's already bad enough, but this really gives you an idea as to what these unfortunate people experienced.
ADAM AIR Company’s motto was “Flying is Cheap” to highlight the low-cost of the tickets. Considering their safety records I have changed it in “Flying is Cheap, Death it’s for free”.

@@HappyBeezerStudios Ryanair hasn’t got that bad because after every crash landing (standard Ryanair landing) the company has enough money to make maintenance on their aircraft thanks to the fact that who book a flight with Ryanair has to pay for EVERYTHING in caps because now passengers must pay to use the lavatory too.
@@EM.1 I still think Ryanair paid for boeing to build a specially designed landing gear just to take the immense forces of their "landings" because it was cheaper than replacing the entire landing gear after every "landing"
This one always stuck in my mind, I can’t imagine how disorientated the pilots were and how scared the passengers were. Such a bizarre case from the flight to the investigation.
Hearing the CVR recording with my own native language is frightening. I can feel what the pilots going through as they realize about the faulty navigation system. For the first part, they were calm about it but they know something is up. And soon as the plane entered the poor weather things started to escalated quickly for them.
My grandma used to flew with Adam Air back to her hometown after visits our family. I always concerned about it because every time there's a news about plane accident, it's almost certain that it is Adam Air.
But they do have a great livery with that bright orange color. One plane, a 737-300 (I think) used to stored in my hometown airport (Bandung, Hussein Sastranegara Airport.) I used to love seeing it from the service road, and that plane actually what got me into aviation world.
Thank you for this great coverage. Back in the 2000s there's a lot of airline incident in Indonesia, so it's quite common to hear a news about plane crash back in those days.
There is one incident that i've been struggling to look for the complete coverage. Which is incident of Garuda Indonesia's DC-10 that failed to take off after an engine failure in Fukuoka, Japan. Maybe you can look it up in the future.

There's like every time you turn on the TV and there's a case of aviation issue we would always say, "It's probably Adam Air again." It's just THE absolute worst of airline operations.
It made Lion Air's infamously bad service look like AAA first class airliner by comparison....
There is a video on UA-cam that shows the passengers being held up in the plane because the crew was suddenly unable to open the door.
If that doesn't show how incompetent they were I don't know what does
And of course Boeing used that to blame the Lion Air pilots for the first crash involving their death trap Max Air planes.
At the very least, Lion Group saw significant improvement in their service nowadays, even in their lowest tier airline (Wings Air). And yeah, they got unjustly blamed for that "May Crash Any Second" fiasco by Boeing of all people.
@@dekaredfire Wings are great for commuter airline, never involved in serious incidents, great FA, mostly on time, probably due to it operates in quiet regional tier airports, planes are fragant, the only downside is, it is Lion group.

my wife (RIP) was a cabin crew of this airline. that same plane,same route she usually scheduled for her service. i told her to resign since shes on her 2nd month of pregnancy. and thanks god she was imediately resign. 1 week after her resign,this accident occurred. 2 of her cabin crew friend died in this accident.

While the corruption is appalling, the refusal to recover the bodies is unforgivable. Those poor people and their families.
My grandma also the one among the victims on this flight. We should have a joyful new year (because I had arrived in Manado before to celebrate Christmas with my big family and waiting for my grandma arrived on January 1st) but it turns out as the most memorable yet hurtfull moment of my life. I know, God really loves her and all of the passengers on this flight.

It's Air France Flight 447 that always haunts me. A perfectly functional plane crashed into the ocean by a panicked copilot who forgot that the plane should be pointed in the direction it's travelling. It's 5 minutes of the plane screaming at this guy to fix the stall and he just sits there making it worse the whole time until everyone dies.
I remember the my Mother's relative got perished in that disaster.

This one was similar to a 737-800 that crashed mid-air with a Legacy over Brazil, the CVR is just as haunting as this one as you can hear the sound of the plane breaking mid-air too.

I flew using this airline from Singapore to Jakarta just a few weeks before the disaster. I remember when we're approaching Bangka Islands the machine got blacked out and we had a free fall for some thousand feet. Luckily the pilots could revive the machine and we continue to flew to Jakarta. I still vividly remember how my parents hugged me and we all were shouting "Allahu Akbar" for a while, it was really scary...
I had flown this exact plane (PK-KKW) just a few days before it crashed, from from Palembang to Jakarta to visit my aunt there and man they flew directly into the severe storm. Thats basically my worst ever flight altho im not as scared as my mom and sis since i was a kid at that time. After that flight, both my mom and aunt (who always used Adam Air at that time) agrees to never fly Adam Air anymore. And after a few days we made that decision, the plane crashed.
When i saw the news, it was surreal that the plane that i took ended up crashed a few days later, on the similar weather too.
God, listening to that CVR recording, totally horrifying me. Good job on making video on that disastrous Adam air incident.

My father used to be an Adam Air pilot back before when I was born, he said that every aircraft in the ADAM Air's fleet has its own problem. It's rare to see or find an aircraft that is in a good state, he resigned in 2008.
What was the common or disturbing problem he encountered?

AdamAir was known to fire or dock pay from pilots who would refuse to fly unsafe planes and their maintenance didn’t just extend to the equipment. One of their planes had to be pushed back by muscle power after it stopped working. It turned out that a connection hose had hardened and broken before the plane was due to take off. Rather than replace it like the manufacturer recommended, AdamAir cut out the cracked part and reconnected it.
If i was a pilot, id rather stay alive with no job than end up dead in a crash with lots of money.

14:42 to 15:37: That CVR was heartbreaking hearing the captain and first officer panic as the plane literally starts being torn apart due to the high speeds, found a source claiming it was going Mach 0.926. Can't imagine the terror the passengers/flight attendants felt in the cabin.

If the crew starts to panic and have no idea what to do they're just in the wrong place.
Sadly, would have to agree...? 😔 Hearing the flight crew go rapidly from distraction to confusion to panicked prayer was distressing for several reasons, including the way it seemed to indicate their serious lack of comprehensive training? Staying calm & continuing to work the problem under such extreme circumstances seems almost a superhuman ask, but it's what pilots' extensive simulator training & retraining is intended to achieve - training the brain so it can compartmentalize or ignore panic & continue to problem-solve even whilst adrenaline and cortisol are rioting.
I'm glad the Indonesian government finally cracked down on these dodgy airline operators, but how awful to hear at what cost 😿 Much sympathy to the families of all those lost...

Give me the best pilot in the world; put him in a storm with no visual references; take away the artificial horizon; and have the plane make uncommanded maneuvers of which he is only made aware when alarms start sounding. What could he do? He doesn't know what the plane is doing, and his only impression of "straight and level" will come from his inner ear AND WILL CERTAINLY BE WRONG.
By the time they became aware of the problem, it was already too late.
I can only hope that due to the G forces many of them had passed out. It had to be terrifying. I also hope that there were no survivors and that those who were killed died instantly. I hate the thought that there may have been survivors and no help was sent. I just think of that little girl on the Yemeni airline accident who stayed afloat in the ocean for 13 hours before being found by fishermen, and that she’d heard the voices of other surviving passengers, then one by one the voices stopped. That one haunts me.

By the time they started calling to the god of death, the plane was likely unrecoverable (mostly due to the fact that pulling out of the dive before hitting the sea would've required the pilots to pull Gs that were far beyond the planes design limits anyway)
but they probably could've got an attitude reference from the backup instruments since they run off a different intertial reference computer than the PFD (and I'm pretty sure the older ones use a built in gyroscope for attitude information rather than a computer) BEFORE the plane was at such a high speed that recovery was impossible

As one of the survivor of adam air runway overrunning in batam, i know how devastaring it was.
And i wont even bother using cheap airplane since then.
I flew with Adam Air one day after this crash happened (Jan 2nd). I didn’t hear the news about the crash until after my flight. My entire flight to Jakarta from Surabaya was scary, I still remember it clearly until this day. My mom said she heard the news after I was boarded and didn’t stop praying for 2 hours until my plane landed. That was the scariest moment in my life ever.
I always admire how safety first the airline industry is. Air travel is hinged on making sure customers feel safe when flying but even though it is a business benefit to have an incredible safety record, its something that a lot of companies don't consider. Knowing Europe banned a country from landing because of their safety record? Wow.
well i mean. think about it. if they didnt put safety first and profits and experience first, like many fledgling airlines did back in the 40s, 50s, and 60s, then people wouldnt fly. theyd more likely die with champagne in their mouths than land safely for their business conference, to meet their family, or even to go home. Youre an industry known for people getting hurt and injured? no one will buy tickets and therefore no profits.
Though i truly admire the lengths some airlines go to to make sure that every little thing is thought about. Emirates especially, since they manage to balance out a good experience worth the money, treating the employees well, making as much money as possible, AND safety for passengers and crew. not many businesses would think about all of that and usually would sacrifice one for the focus of another.

The AIRLINE business is a balance between safety and CORPORATE profitability
The majority of airlines - particularly the Low-Cost operators will only implement
what ever safety measures are required by Law - otherwise they will defer any
improvements in Service bulletins as long as possible or at least to the next
legally required inspection.
What people fail to understand is that with any CORPORATE structure be it the airline
industry - vehicle manufacture or whatever - The objective is EARNING profits
fro the Stakeholders and investors - and flying aircraft or manufacturing vehicles
or what ever is only a means to that end -
Their business is not Operating an Airline of building vehicles - People only imagine
that as they do not understand COMMERCE
Equally valid is an employee who will undertake any job within their capability just to earn
an income -- The Job is irrelevant - It is the INCOME that is the critical factor - not the job.
It is ALWAYS the case of - Where are the opportunities to make an income/profits -
and what can we do to maximize those.
An airline that losing one aircraft a year or so is within acceptable limits -
They have insurance - The reputation of an airline hinges on the number of incidents
and the severity within a given space of time.
LIFE is a risk - and one lives within specific parameters and accepts varying levels of risk
Sooner or later DEATH comes to us all whether we like it or not.
One can be sitting at home and still be involved in an Aircraft collision - such as

As an Indonesian myself, to this day, whenever I see Adam Air mentioned, I see them as the harbinger of doom. I remember being told to not fly in Adam Air, and it was popular on local tv for its notoriety. And in this flight in particular, for the most part, I only listened to the part after the bank angle warning. Now that I heard everything, I feel the pure anger and chanting in my head saying: "Fly the goddamn plane!!", clenched my fist, and just gritted my teeth until the end. The news coverage in the aftermath and airspace bans made me lose faith in aviation as a kid. I've got no interest of becoming an aviation nerd or a pilot now, thanks to Adam Air alone.

Just disconnect the AP and fly it manualy while navigating by tuning beacons manualy.

@@pascalcoole2725 Just a stroke of bad press for aviation in Indonesia in my childhood that didn't help things. Sure I'm still interested in how an airliner works or the crash investigations that made flying as safe as it is, but nothing more than that.

My family had a few flights using Adam Air to visit relatives in Jakarta. My dad would always buy their flight tickets because they were cheap. Once the news broke out that the airline is not safe, my dad stopped using it entirely. I'm glad he did

Adam Air was so notoriously cheap that even my family who was dirt poor at the time could afford to dream to buy its ticket. I remember I was planning to buy their ticket and then this crash happened. This made me start to learn more about aviation world and fall in love with it.

My family frequently flew with Adam Air due to it's insanely low prices, they had to fly to some remote islands in Indonesia for work, and one time my dad told me that he flew on a plane where he can see the body of the airplane had been hastily glued back together and had shown signs of neglect and wear and tear, they knew that it was far from being air worthy, we reside in Surabaya so we had our fair share of hearing tragic accidents and incidents with the likes of Adam Air and many other low cost carriers, safe to say that they never flew with any of them since then.
We have a lowcost airline here in UK called easyJet which I'm sure you've heard of but they're by far top of their game in regards to making you feel comfortable and making sure the planes are operating correctly everything is how it should be.
If I was you dad, I would’ve taken pictures of the damage, refused to board the plane, asked for a refund, and reported the airline to the regional aviation regulators, the FAA and Boeing.
I wouldn’t hold missing a business meeting because the plane they were supposed to fly on didn’t look safe against anyone, especially if they provided pictures.

the loud thump was prob from the vertical stabilizer being riped off the tail due to the speed and when they pulled up the plane hit the water on the plane underside. i remember hearing the cvr. trying to get the aircraft back but due to the speed and the captain being to hard at the control its riped off the vertical stabilizer and the horizontal stabilizer due to air frame stress. thank you for making this video disaster breakdown. I remember hearing lots of news regarding Adam Air’s disasters on the news when I was younger. My aunt used to fly frequently with this airline from Pekanbaru to Jakarta, and she always complained about how rough every flight was but she had no choice because the cost was cheaper than other airlines at the time. After her last flight with Adam Air, this accident happened. She vowed she’d never go with this airline again, but yeah... they went bankrupt not long after. I had flight phobia right after I saw this accident on the news, but thankfully I overcame it. Something about hearing the CVR in my native language gave me the chills. May the pilots and passengers rest in peace.
remember that the CVR leak itself was a big scandal and sensation on it's own back in 2007-8 and i clearly remembering it

I'm from Indonesia, and yes, I've been flying with Adam Air multiple times. And honestly, looking back now, ryanair seems like a luxury compared to adam air. First, the landings is awful. It was around 2006 i believe when i took my first trip using the airline, it is from Jakarta to Surabaya. The landing was so hard, literally the overhead baggage shoot out from the compartment and i believe there're several casualties including people's head bleeding, the stewardess had bad ankle, and many more. Me? My neck was hurt during that. Secondly, the service is god awful. You're lucky if your flight is 'just' 30 minutes delayed. It can takes usually around 2 - 3 hrs delay. And don't expect compensation. I've been once told to wait for 8 hrs, yes 8 hours due to the technical issues. The last straw for me is when i went to Yogyakarta again from Jakarta, the pilot brakes the plane so hard, my head was banging the front seat leaving a mark in my forehead. That happened a week before the famous crash in Sulawesi. Since that, i rather choose to board air asia or citilink if using budget airlines.
In the states we had a company called ValuJet that was notoriously terrible with both training and matinence and Adam Air makes their safety record look good in comparison.

@@abelsumanas tbh, lion isn't that bad. I mean yes we would have a severe delays cases and you're lucky if you just have to wait for a half an hour delay. But, truth be told, lion is way much better than adam air and that just a fact. Not that i defending nor a fan of the airline but I've to say that adam air is just worse than lion. I mean, lion now has like 4 sub company and one of them has a flight to europe i think. So it isn't that bad.

These displays require at least one IRS to function normally. Attitude mode can be thought of as a back-up mode, when put into attitude mode some manual set-up is required. Attitude mode can be used when both IRS units are receiving faulty info preventing them from functioning normally. It can’t really be designed any different. If the computers driving the displays is not functional, the displays won’t work. That’s why there are mechanical backup instruments in the cockpit that always work, just in case such computer problem happens.
During the blank-out period, a secondary artificial horizon located off to the side of the primary flight display remains functional. They don’t require any computers, they’re purely mechanical on this aircraft type.
However, neither pilot was actually flying the aircraft. Poor CRM. If the pilot-flying had kept his eyes on the standby (backup) artificial horizon, they would have been fine but neither pilot was actively monitoring the plane and they were caught by surprise when the primary instruments started functioning again.
Great breakdown. Every other video on this crash focuses on the broken IRS and cites it as the cause, when in fact it is a whole chain of events.

Ah yes. A total embarrassment for the entire aviation industry in Indonesia. I remember this accident appeared in Air Crash Investigation as the first Indonesian accident portrayed by the series. Absolutely embarrassing, especially for me as an aerospace engineer.
This and Garuda Indonesia Flight 200 essentially tarnished the reputation of Indonesian aviation as a whole at that time. It's really a disastrous and embarrassing moment. Those flights are what essentially allowed the reputation to turn around for the better, and it has been especially seen in Garuda Indonesia's Quantum Leap program...

I live in Surabaya, i remember vividly that broken down plane in the tarmac. They painted that plane white while waiting for recovery, we joked that it looked like a dolphin. Luckily i was still in college during those worst years,i only fly after the safety improved.
i remember seeing adam air planes sitting on the airport after they stopped operating in 2008. I knew that airline was bad since i remember my uncle flying with them once and told us how unreliable the aircraft is. He told me that he kept hearing crackling noises on the engine and the flight felt like they were flying through a storm even on a sunny day. He told me that the plane would sometimes lost some of it's engine power and the flight decended on a high paced which felt like that freefall amusement ride. A week after he told me about that story the first crashed happened and we weren't surprised. also at 8:50 the pilot said something about using the equiment for a while and it turned out to be wrong
Adam Air was the reason why most of my family member avoid traveling by air, even my uncle rejects a job offer where he have to traveling a lot with airplane

I've seen this type of lax attitude on equipment before. At a petroleum plant, where broken air gages kept finding their way back into service. This is for breathing air. I really contemplated taking a hammer and breaking them completely so they could not come back into use. This airline risked everything to avoid replacing one navigation system. Although, this is not worse than what Boeing did. Boeing made a computer system that depended on only one computer, and messed up with only one faulty sensor. Want manual override? That's an upgrade that costs more. In both cases there should have been manslaughter charges.
Boeing used to hold the gold standard in aircraft manufacture until Macdonald Douglas took over . Suggest you watch Downfall. The Case Against Boeing. On Netflix and very interesting.

One of my relative is on this flight, he is going home from Surabaya to Manado my hometown, bringing New Year gift for his daughters which only 4 and 6, and his wife, but the gift are never recieved... I remember the horror when his wife get the news. His older daughter are married last year. May God bless him
I remembered when this particular air crash got popular again around the year 2016/2017(I don’t really remember) that the crashed was pinned on Indonesia’s “Bermuda triangle” or “segitiga Masalembo”, there was even a whole soap opera/tv drama based off the crash and the triangle. Growing up is realizing maybe theres lots more behind the scenes then what I thought.

I remember when i flying with adam air in 2007. That is the most disgusting experience with flight i ever had. No foods, always delay for min. 2 hours, no Passenger Boarding Bridge (only small stairs from top down). I'm glad that adam air was finally stop operating.
Seeing this reminds me of the past. At the time, Adam Air was one of airlines for a direct flight from Surabaya to Manado. I and my mother were lucky enough that we took this flight the day before the incident. It was totally unenjoyable, especially going through the thunderstorm.

Hello there, may I suggest a plane accident to cover? It's the C-212 Aviocar accident off the Chilean coast in 2011, as it was heading to aid earthquake victims in the Juan Fernández archipielago, and was carrying popular and beloved TV personalities, with no survivors after the crash
Many comments have already said all there is to say about the frightening nature of the content, but I would like to congratulate the channel for the excellent narration and production quality in this short doco. The narrator's precise enunciation, cadence and pacing are all 10/10 in my opinion. The script is comprehensive and provides all necessary details while remaining concise and well edited. The use of maps and graphics was spot-on and it was considerate of the creators to include a timestamp to skip the CVR recording if viewers wished to do so. 10/10 content, thanks. Subbed/bell.
As an Aussie, I have visited and holidayed in Bali, Indonesia. The second time we went, we could not get a seat on a Qantas flight, and had to fly with Garuda. My bff who I was travelling with had unfortunately flown with them before and it had not been a pleasant experience. It was the flight back that we had issues that scared us to death. Dinner had just been served and the plane dropped suddenly so much that our drinks tipped all over our food and the blankets that the crew had also just given out. People were frightened and the plane was a mess. The cabin crew were not overly helpful or caring. Never again will I fly with them. My poor bff nearly had ptsd from having two frightening incidents with them and she will never use them again. Have travelled overseas many times since, happily never with Garuda, as we knew about the level of corruption and shortcuts with safety, and this was in 1985. Also had a incident with corrupt police over there, and we worked for the police here and could not believe that they were asking us for a bribe. My thoughts are with all who died, and their families and loved ones. What a terrifying way to die.

Indonesian aviation safety during the 2000's and below is just...concerning. The incidents of AdamAir and the proceeding events (EU ban, FAA rating downgrade) slapped the local regulators in the face and led to the major revamp of Aviation Safety and Service in Indonesia, at least from what I learned.

I worked as an investment banker specializing in Southeast Asia aviation until 2017. Garuda was never a problem. Their maintenance facility in Jakarta was so good that even Qantas and Singapore Airlines would schedule Boeing work there. Garuda was famous for doing maintenance on their very modern fleet ahead of schedule. Their pilots went to the US to train and get type certified. The Indo government was the sole owner until recently and money was never a problem. Garuda never made money but it was always safe. It was also a huge generator of foreign currency and tax revenue. Between 2007 and 2012, Garuda turned down a Star Alliance (United, Air Canada, Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa) $50M investment. Garuda was afraid the foreign investment would result in staff layoffs, cutbacks and rejected the offers.
Back in 2008 or so, I was on a flight to Boston. All of a sudden the plane lost about 50 feet of altitude in a split second. Fortunately, everyone was securely strapped in. Scared the living s*** outta me!
All the problems in an airline, seemingly start from the top.
I remember reading a magazine about aviation and read this adam air story.

I was on the gates on the departing airport that day, and I was 9. Me and my 14 yo brother was going around the shops when I saw a commotion, people surrounding a tv with shocked expressions that I didn't fully understand at that time. But I remember feeling scared and that scene still stays in my mind till now..
I had never heard of Adam Air or this disaster until now. I feel bad for the 102 people that died, especially the pilots. Hearing them yell "Allahu Akbar" over and over in their final moments was both sad and scary. Nobody deserved to die like that! 😠

Tragic that these guys became fixated on a navigation issue. This led to not following the primary job of a pilot. Aviate. Flying into a storm and messing around with the IRS system is a terrible idea. And what is even more disturbing is that there is a standby attitude indicator that doesn’t rely on the IRS at at. Had they referenced this instrument, this tragedy might not have happened at all. I didn’t hear in this presentation if either pilot referenced any handbooks to work on the problem either. That could have been handled while the other pilot flew the plane. RIP to all the poor souls who entrusted their lives to these two.
My mom told me when I was little we went abroad with Adam Air and that everyone in the plane looked so tense. I think she said she found out later that the airline just had a crash recently.
A friend of mine in med school along with my lecturer and his wife were on this flight. We couldn't believe it happened when this disaster strucked. She was about to get married in the following months or so... We were all expecting the miracle to happen, i remember it was raining day in and day out for days.. it felt like a confirmation for us that we had lost her and we would never see her again... She was young, cheerful and full of life. A beautiful soul inside and out who eventually at her peace forever..
Heartbreaking to hear this. But I am thankful that things such as this are brought to light. As an industrial worker who travels the world, I have to fly some small airlines and always wonder how safe they are.

15:14 that is likely parts of the tail structure being bent out of shape or torn off (most likely parts of the horizontal stabilizer or elevators) or possibly parts of the wing or fuselage structure being damaged
15:16 that sound is almost certainly either the rear spar of the horizontal stabilizer breaking due to the force of the elevators (turning it into a giant trim surface that is pushing the nose down) or breaking off completely
I'd put my money on the latter based on the fact that aluminium is fairly brittle when it's structural limits are exceeded (it tends to break like wood rather than bend like steel) and the sudden negative G load immediately after the sound (which would happen to any aircraft when the horizontal stabilizer is missing or deformed in such a way)
I am grateful for the sake of others that you included skip-to timestamps in your video for all of the CVR excerpts. That was incredibly intense and somewhat disturbing to listen to. :x
