Is the S58 still solely GDI? Or is it dual multiport + GDI?
@@eeiko321 Just DI, unfortunately....or fortunately? Depends on your goals. It uses dual HPFPs so it's still capable of A LOT of fuel flow even with DI only. If someone wanted to safely run 100% E85 for the long run it would be a good idea to add port injection. The stock fueling should support right around 650-700whp on full E85 but that's will be pushing the limits. Best to add PI for safety at that point even though DI only fueling is ideal.

But I would personally say it’s more “unfortunate”.. for carbon build up mainly.
Some of the manufacturers such as Vw/Audi and Lexus as an example, realised their GDI was causing too much carbon build up, hence they overcame this by adding an additional injector above all intake valves, to clean them.. so technically a combined GDI + port injection… I guess it’s best if both worlds..
Not sure why BMW didn’t take that step in this approach, because it’s said that with the additional port injector, customers no longer need to carbon clean/walnut blast the intakes.
I assume the only downside I see to that Is that there’s excess injectors.. More to go wrong?
eg 4cyl would have x8 injectors in total (as opposed to x4)
Apparently tuners have said that if injectors and feeling need to be upgraded/uprated on these cars, you’d only have to replace the port one only with something larger, leaving the GDI one as is.
@@eeiko321 Absolutely correct - port injection is very cheap and easy to upgrade. Direct injection not so much. Carbon build-up is becoming less a concern. All DI only engines are prone to carbon deposits, but it's to a much lesser extent than 10-15+ years ago. It's about $400-700 to walnut blast the valves every ~100,000 miles; not a huge concern if you're willing to pay to play.
I don't want to talk down on port injection since I run it on my 07 335i, which was also DI only from the factory. Port injection is a good setup to flow tons of fuel on E85. However, I wish there were feasible, reliable options to run DI only. Not only can DI take advantage of lean burn to improve fuel economy and turbo spool but it's also incredibly precise. If there were effective solutions to make X power on 100% E85 then I don't think any tuner would ever want to deal with port injection.
Direct injection just has so many benefits. It's hugely superior to port injection in almost every way possible. Ultimately, it's a good thing BMW did not opt for a PI + DI setup. Had they done so they likely would have put in a less capable DI system. It would make upgrades cheaper since you could just upgrade the PI system injectors and LPFP. I'd rather support as much power on DI as possible, so I am glad they opted for a very capable DI only setup. Those wanting more power can add PI but still heavily lean on DI only to manage most of the fuel delivery.
As a side note, my N54 is tuned to run the stock direct injection to nearly the ragged edge before it calls for additional fueling from the aftermarket PI system. It's generally accepted that the more power you can support on DI only the better. In a perfect world, BMW would have used the same exact DI system that the G80/S58 already uses but added PI for the hell of it. Wouldn't be a great business decision considering the fueling can already support 650+whp on E85 on an engine that makes less than 500whp stock.
I have a fully tune with every bolt on you can think of on my GTR and this M3 is Trapping the same MPH with just a tune! Goes to show that made a proper car out the box. Not to mention this thinking circuit around the track like a monster.

S58 are no joke. I also found that with street tires they actually grip better on street surface and has less rolling resistance result in a bit higher et and trap speed than at the dragstrip. So that 9.99 is legit.

The platform being 6 years old is an advantage, if anything. Tuning, R&D, and all that takes time. Flash tunes have only been available for the G80 for like 6 months. Again, this is tune only here. G80 xDrives have already run around 9.6-9.7 with a tune, DPs, and E85. The ATS V also has what...20% more displacement? And the G80 M3 absolutely dusts it with a mucher shorter list of mods, full weight, and stock wheels? That's all beside the fact BMW has never been known for building drag platforms. There's no replacement for engineering.

Nope, it’s actually been exposed that the car had turbos out in. The stock units don’t flow enough air. Once you see the compressor maps for the stock units it becomes clear. All these tuning companies do this
