Best Sleeper Cars & Trucks 1/4 Mile Compilation - I Wasn't Expecting THAT!

- Compilation of some of the best sleeper cars and trucks from New England Dragway that I've caught on video. Some cars do have parachutes etc., which sleeper aficionados may find fault with, but they are faster than the average person would expect, sometimes much faster!
Whether they are all a sleeper in its truest form or not, I hope you'll find these fun to watch.

Those diesels still blow my mind, an 8,000 lb. vehicle pulling 11 seconds is insane.
Because of the torque it gives acceleration
3:30 The guy’s reaction of the “stock” Teggy running a 10.0 is priceless 😂😂😂
I'm so glad you told me this. 😂😂😂
Love the video, no bullshit cutscenes, no bullshit music. Just the cars
Thank you
I was under the impression "sleepers" are vehicles that you don't expect to be fast but are. The Volvo at the beginning made sense
what about the Ef Civic and the GTR?
@@googlyeye3838 GTRs shouldn't be put in the sleeper category, but that's just my two cents...
That's what I was thinking. It should look stock or worse... not have slicks lol
@@googlyeye3838 GTR sleeper? Yeah and Metallica is a garage band.that first Mazda (?) truck is a freaking chronic narcoleptic....
6:15... you're WOKE when the induction of your turbos acts as white noise to everything else...p.s. the Grand National next was the cleanest launch from one of them. Does it even have the turbo on? Friggin crazy clean hit
Awesome video. Killer choices on the cars you included. Outstanding.
That Acura Integra at 3:23 mark is my favorite of this vid, looks so unassuming.
My personal favorite was the black diesel pickup that red-lit every single time it ran. At least three red lights, and not by a little, He was leaving as soon as the stage lights were on.
I love how the Corrado was asleep at the tree, woke up, took a shower, grabbed a cup of coffee, then ran the Trans Am down with an 11 second pass!🤣
Mike Felty my friend had a worked Corrado with an 18 lbs boost supercharger back in the day. We raced a Z 06 Vette one day for fun. My buddies Corrado smoked him big time. Guy made us show what was under the hood. Lol.
It's bracket racing, you give what your time is and they adjust the light tree accordingly so the idea is the faster car leaves later with the object of hitting the finish line at the same time. It makes it so you have to be extremely consistent with your launches, shifts and the tune of your car. It's a popular form of racing where I live. So while the performance does matter the drivers consistency and abilities matter more. Makes it fun so some dude can't just rock up with the fastest car and smoke everyone whether he can drive or not.
@@ourtime-downhere6931 Yeah, they definitely have bracket racing here in Texas. I know all about dial-ins, making sure you don't break out by going faster, and all that. I typically don't care for some forms of bracket racing, especially classes that allow delay boxes. To me that takes some of the thrill out of it. It was just funny to me the way the VW ran down the T/A. I tend to prefer heads up racing or the slower guy getting lengths or other advantages to make it more fair. Timing the tree staggered is used in heads up classes sometimes as well.
@@ourtime-downhere6931 Also, that wasn't a bracket race. The lights came on at the same time, but the VW waited to build more boost for the launch.
Mike Felty I missed that the lights came on at the same time, I guess I assumed why a practiced racer would've left so late as being bracket racing, sorry for assuming. He must've been in a serious haze; that was a crazy late launch. You can build boost long before, no need to wait that long and as seeing as he's obviously don't it before it struck me as odd. Mistakes happen all the time, I guess I shouldn't assume.
Rule of thumb if it has a 5inch cowl hood and a parachute, it’s probably not a sleeper. Good video though
The problem with thumb rules is, you don't whose thumb it came from or where that thumb has been.
@@account4info and that thumb might have been very well up someone's ass

I love the diversity in drag racing these days!!
I’m 50 now and growing there was no car at a drag strip with a 4 or 6 cylinder engine. There was an occasional 4 cylinder Offy in a retro drag car or a supercharged Chevy straight 6 but they were rare. Nowadays you have no idea what you’re up against! There are 6 second cars with 4G63 engines and of course the mighty 2JZ which is way better than JZ! The RB engines are killers too and the Swedes are building 7 second Volvo engines and on and on!
If you have the money you can build a billet block out of any well designed engine and put astronomical boost to it and injectors like fire hoses! I didn’t even mention what the Puerto Ricans and Ozzies are doing with the old Rotary engines! I love it. There IS a replacement for displacement!!!
And all this technology is from the early days! Turbo and super charging was developed in the late 20s and used extensively in fighter planes in the 30s and 40s. It ain’t new but is finally available to the average Joe on a budget. I look foreword to the next few decades to see what’s next. 3 second all electric dragster outrunning top fuel?
We are "Aussies" mate.. but great comment..you can make anything go fast these days . Dont need big cube engines like you mericans have. Lol.
When ultra Capacitors are placed on an electric car, the only thing keeping it from getting 3 seconds is keeping the wheels gripping. Will rip the tires clean off
Electric rail dragsters are here in the top fuel class now dude. It's happening. Who'd a thunk it right?
Yeah, they don't mess around Down Undah! I thought it was almost a joke when someone invited me to the Sport Compact Nationals in Englishtown around 2006-2007 to watch some 4 and 6 cylinder cars. Love seeing what they do with those now!
@@endeavourniche9001 I just saw that Electric Cobrajet recently. That was BIZARRE
Going to miss seeing the top fuel drags this summer. Thank for sharing sights from NE Dragway.
New England Dragway...some great Street Nights back in the 90’s there...
I've seen a bunch of Volvo engine swaps and finally someone used a decent looking Volvo!
Muscle car: "Hey, did you bring your Grandma's car??"
Granny in Volvo: "Hold my beer."
20:30 this one my favorite. Nothing fancy, just ridiculously fast
Nothing fancy? Things got a parachute on the back😂
Very nice compilation. I love the Mitsubishi vrs american. Great video.
Some of those really surprised me how fast they were, unbelievable.
Well made, no bullshit video. I like your style. Keep up the good work. Thank-You.
The sunset stole the show at 28:30
3:19 that was pretty impressive..
150 mph on a honda
That Acura is amazing
That Skyline, got a shut-off that traction control
That Isuzu pup tho
The isuzu pup was no joke. Looked like it was fired out of a gun.
Thanks for the video it's great
Good mixture there nice one :)
Nice video

At 13:20 (cool number!)
T-Type Buick Regal with pretty much the same drive train as the Grand National. 3.8 turbo V6, faster than the corvette in 86 and 87!
Stock t type or grand national on slicks might have run low 14s or high 13s. Have to remember that the 80s muscle cars were all very slow compared to today’s muscle care
@@richardharris2062 Stock, very few of them are stock at the strip, the one owner low mileage ones yeah.
My mom and dad had an older car with that V-6 3.8 L motor. That thing was quick as hell off the line. I think it was an Oldsmobile. Maybe a Cutlass Cierra?
Thanks
That BMW @ 20:30. Daaaamnnn
Dang those cars are nice and fast
Damn that E30 moved OUT!!!
3:45 was fucking impressive did not expect that
1:51 Rhode Island plates. Rarest part of the video.
Ah the Parachute, sure sign of a grocery getter
Sure I always take my 6 second car to pick up the kids at day care 😆
Lol I saw a vid the other day where a dad dropped his kids off in a apc lol
@@-Luna-tic.exe- apc , What's that ?
@@Moparmaga-1 Armored personnel carrier. Think tank without the giant gun ;)
@@-Luna-tic.exe- oh got it. Yeah that would be fucking bad ass
My dad and uncle helped build my Pinto , my first car i was 18 year old and we did up a 289 , full house on nitris shot 250hp. Dyno to wheels was 785 with the 289 no shot. Sweeet sleeper. I was doing high 9s quarter mile street daily driver. Best was 9.76. Average 10.20 to 11 second. Sleepers are cool. Original. My next will be a big block
Rick. I was around in the days of the early 318’s. I don’t think they ever offered one with a 4 brl carb The stock hp was around 210-230 at the crank Chrysler actually made a 273 that made more hp than the 318. The 318 shares the same block as the 273-340-360 but that’s about all. It was definitely Chrysler’s a dads car engine
I’m not too snobby about v8 swaps, but in a Grand National? Commmmmme onnnnnnnn bruh
6:52
I think Al Bundys “Dodge” is more of a sleeper than that 300ZX
That's hilarious, my first vehicle was a white 88 mightymax, sophomore, I saved and paid 2200 LOL
Nothing says slow car like a set of slicks and a fukn parachute. Fun vid, would love to have that grand national.
29.25
...damn son nasty Integra
The Tesla is a quiet sleeper too...
Totally bizarre seeing two cars race, but only hearing one lose. I would imagine that a good driver could dial one in pretty close.
Lmao that dude’s reaction at 3:32
On the tree, the Green Go light for the top lane looks totally like another Yellow when it lights up. Maybe this is why some drivers are messing up their hole shot in that top lane.
Hahaha look! 🤣🤣🤣 someone brought a Volv Oh my god🤯
Oh look a gtr r35!😲😲😲 oh nevermind it slow af.😑😑
Most of these arent sleepers
Yeah, I think the Subaru with exhaust through the hood and a chute doesn't really qualify as a sleeper...
"This is my Subie, it's a basic build not to fast"
"It clearly has a giant front mount turbo and four slicks, and a freakin parachute"
*Subie owner runs away giggling
The hellcat was so fast I thought it was racing by itself
Haha nice joke
LMAO!! Starting about 1:03. Talk about getting smoked!
Some sour diesel there!!
1:05 half the kids coming into school at 7am
All the diesel trucks really need is some tuning
I swear to God, if the 14:57 NA Mustang on NOS keeps using NOS on every race, his V8 isn't gonna last long.
Having your tailgate down actually increases aerodynamic drag.
That has been scientifically proven wrong. The only thing it does is throw your bed sides out of alignment. Myth busters did an episode and proved it wrong and body guys shake their heads for the stupidity.
@@FLAV3R Actually, the conclusion by Mythbusters was the down tailgate increases drag.
www.popularmechanics.com/science/g475/15-favorite-mythbusters-car-myths/
Swervin309 it actually slows you vehicle and the “Drag effect” is not comparable to the loss of speed.
@@FLAV3R Please explain.
I know that they share some things, but that Isuzu Pup looks like an S10 disguised as an Isuzu. I know that the Isuzu Hombre was a re-badged 2nd gen S10, but did Isuzu make a model that so closely resembled a '91-'93 S10?
That was an S10 badged as a p'up. I had a p'up and they were the same as the Chevy Luv until the Luv was discontinued so the S10 could join the line up. The P'up continued on unchanged until Isuzu redesigned it for 1988 when they brought out the rodeo and amigo.
LOL, that Mitsubishi pickup is the true epitome of an oxymoron. I owned one, it was my favorite truck, but also the slowest vehicle I have driven in my life, very relaxing, had to go slow.
Yes! I used to own a 1990 might max, anywhere over 55mph it felt like the dam thing was about to fly apart!😂
Yeah, I hated getting onto the freeway, the acceleration was sooo slow. lol But, it really was an enjoyable little truck, and it was very reliable.
Ya mine was great, I passed it on to my cousin a few years ago with 350,000 miles on it and he still drives it 😂
You may already know about these parts, but, if it starts cutting out, there are two air filters on the engine. The regular one, and a tiny one on the back side of the air cleaner. Also, on the exhaust manifold there is a part (I forget the name of it, but it was $100 bucks 20 years ago lol) that can go bad. I had to figure these out for myself as two mechanics I took the truck to couldn't. lol Once replaced, I had a great running truck. Mine only had 160,000k, but I had heard those little engines were diehards.
LOL slowest of all is the 1980 vw pickup diesel
@2:50 dude in the gn was taking a nap.
I was surprised to see the 92 typhoon that was outvthe box keeped up trustvme I know
Y'all need to strap that Tesla motor to moms electric scooter!✌😁👍.i would watch that race!
Seems the older cars have great launch power that mitsubishi pick up, the corolla and the ford truck seem to be the fastest.
Black Duraturd needs to learn how a drag tree works. Go on yellow only works on pro tree.😂
Green means go.
Should rename to Foreign and Domestic..aint nothin sleepy when you bring it to race.
Ayee anyone else from NH too? Damn the stands look a bit empty😂
The reason for the empty stands is they're training for all of this social distancing
Curious how a hellcat anything is considered a sleeper? or CTS V? supercharged dragons are not sleepers, maybe you should check out Farm truck
And u think the Farm Truck is a sleeper?🤣🤣🤣
Greata would not be happy about the DIESEL. 😂
Jeff Foxworthy Joke:
"You know you're not a sleeper"
When your turbo is sticking out of your hood...
Captain Mike K or when you have four slicks and a drag chute 🤣
i must've missed the sleepers......probably was distracted by the slicks and rolled coal....
I don't care if it's faster than a rocket ship, I'm not being caught dead driving a clown car that sounds like a West Nile mosquito being granny shifted. No sir no fucking way.
Volvo go brrrr
All new vettes n hell cats have line locks. Im 40. But that was a thing you would only see in a straight build, not factory. Its cheaper to buy than to build. If you have the money they are the best. Hands down. They were factory built to drag.
year of the mighty max?
Not sure a lot of these can be called sleepers.
Yeah, sometimes the wheelie bars and dragchute popping out at the next stop light gives it away.
The Subaru with dump pipes sticking out the hood and a parachute vs a white foxbody notch with slicks and skinnies. You can look at either of those and tell they're likely to be quick.
Sometimes the turbos like to pop up ontop of the hood when it supposed to be sleeping
the vw corrado @ 8:40, looks stock as #$%*
I miss my 88 Mitzubishi Mighty Max Sport
I really liked your vid but I think you need to look up ‘sleeper’ again. Grand Nationals, Fox Body Mustangs, 4G63 Mitsus (Eagle Talon/Mitsu Eclipse), Teslas and GMC Typhoons don’t count. Some of the ones I really liked were the Eagle Summit (the one just missing a 2-step to get down in the low 9s or high 8s), the first Integra (220 hp my ass!), that Corolla(holy fuck, 8.5!!), the convertible Vette, Chrysler 300 and the last Impreza STI.
You too bud, you really can’t call a corvette a sleeper...
4g63 gallant= not sleeper
Corvette convertible=sleeper
Got it!
Shit those volvos without LSs and massive turbo upgrades and full block builds are killers
Blue Ford Turbo Mustang at 30 min.--140+mph and he never really hooks up--Wow
The Eagle Summit at 12:10 isn't that a GTR it's racing?
Definitely looks like a GMC Vandura to me.
Mazda 3 didn't hook till it was almost half way down the strip.
It must be street legal to be considered a sleeper.
Alan R couldn’t agree with you more.
I had a great sleeper, but it never woke up
what kind of body work needs to be done to allow a car that was designed for 120hp to handle a 700hp engine
Grand National isn't much of a sleeper. We all know what they can do.
Yeah they were fast with a few mods but not so fast stock compared to today’s muscle cars that are stock
Where was this? Some good upsets I'm sure.
New Hampshire
And nobody goes to the track anymore.....what a bummer
Nolan Goldberger every Wednesday night where I live.
Tesla's need to go home. Isn't there a Starbucks drive-thru that they should be at?
@Commonscent wanna bet?
@Commonscent it's all about the combustion engine... something about the sound! Nobody wants to hear silence
Wanna bet?
@@ronaldmorrison6013 fast is fast. said the same thing till i took a ride.
Ronald Morrison Reality, is just that, reality, (We’ll unless you’re name is Donald Trump, then reality is whatever you say it is, regardless) there will be no stopping Tesla for a long time to come, without a rule change.
Some of y’all need to invest in some gap insurance
A whole bunch of them need to invest in some driving lessons. Especially shifting. Looks like a herd of West Nile mosquitoes being granny shifted.
tesla's arent really sleepers anymore because of how famous they are now. neither are diesels. they will pull quite a bit
as for cadillac, well the CTS-V does have a supercharged LSA(same one in the camaro) so that doesnt count as a sleeper. especially since it is a performance luxury car(same with rolls royce with a twin turbo V12, and they are sleepers)
the silverado is technically procharged(a term used for a centrifugal supercharger and is easier to identify)
also to be a real sleeper. is to be something not very well knowned, like an LS swapped motorhome running 11's, thats a sleeper
Man some of these racers are really sleeping or their reaction times off the line, Im like are you going to go, they lost almost 2 seconds on the take off.
I guess you’ve never heard of bracket racing lol
Ben Harrell yes my friend I have heard of bracket racing to even the odds, but when your light is green I believe that means go not sleep another two seconds, am I wrong?
Ronald Smith if you’re running for time only as some were the time only starts when the beam is broken. So it would make zero difference how slow they were on take off . Just saying
Ben Harrell thank you I didn’t realize that I thought the starting reaction was the most important part in bracket racing but as you have kindly pointed out, it doesn’t matter in time racing only!
When an Eagle Summit beats a GTR.... you have a very sad GTR owner. 😂
How was the red caddy a sleeper, V's are supposed to be fast
You can buy. 11/12 sec cars,,,,with a warranty..... 🏖 add nitrous, 9/10. All day
How much? and with reliability.. if you buy cheap, expect to have it in shop a lot, or be doing a lot of work yourself,. But it does depend, sometimes you get lucky and nothing goes wrong.. very lucky
Only saw a couple of "sleepers".
A Tesla is not a sleeper. Forced induction is a must. Kills me how slow my old challenger is now compared to these cars.
Turbo it :D Mopar needs some boooost
Nice video, but turbo and exhaust bulging out of hood, bumping the 2 step or a parachute on the back not really sleeper
Compound turbo 4G63 built my Six Sigma Racing....
Hey this is my home track
1/2 of these aren't even sleepers. Too bad that Acura isn't worth as much as a wrecked GN. 100 mph? 2:45.
